12 pointsStumbled across this on marketplace. Kinda neat but not much use when the grass gets high...may belong to a member here?

11 pointsI just wanted to share these. I was going thru pictures on a camera card and found these I took about 3 years ago. The 702 was my father in-laws, It was my first of my round hoods - it has been in my wife's family since 1965. I picked up the 854 about 8 or so years ago with a stuck intake valve and a bad 4 speed. It now runs great and has the 8 speed Unidrive from a 1979 C81. Bill

8 pointsWell now that I can post pictures we wanted to share this with all of you! Here is the beauty that my husband is really proud of and now owns after a year of wishing and wanting lol. He picked it up last part of January 2020!! The old man bought it a few years ago from the original the owner we understand. Now the guy my husband bought it from, said his health wasn’t up to it so he set this tractor inside his shed strapped on pallets and covered up! He posted it for sale several times over the past year, but we felt it was out of price range at the time. Then it disappeared so we figured it sold then it came up again different pictures! However many conversations later we have it in our heard! They both settled on a price both could be happy with! So our youngest daughter made the trip with her Dad to get this 854 and have some quality father daughter time as I couldn’t get off work. It’s a surprisingly well kept surviver, having the original paint. The blade has its decals, original paint and the mower deck the same plus it has new wheel horse brand belts on it...! It was a day in travel time but the following day he was playing on it.. Replaced the battery, added gas! Then noticed gasket on the fuel tank had dried out and was leaking and the fuel pump was leaking against the engine as the gasket was placed up side down. That has now been replaced and a gasket for the fuel tank ordered but it stopped leaking so the gasket is on hand if it starts again. He added rear weights and chains and it’s now his go to tractor! The HY-3 lift allows him precise height of the blade! Has used it twice moving snow and comes up with excuses to use it for other things! IMG_7087.MOV

7 pointsIt looks wider in the front, even from the back. It’s just that tubbed rearend look that is deceiving... The rear is currently about 2-3” wider and will be widened another 3” or so.

5 pointsPlease move if needed mods! Check out what I just saw on one of the auction sites! Very nice tractor, but the price!! $5,999! It is all original, but for that price you’re getting into Sr range. Maybe this seller is just reaching for the sky, but I don’t think anyone will ever pay that price. I’m not sure about the rapid price escalation of the prices of parts and tractors. Affordability is one of the things that I love about our hobby, but it might start to exclude some of us at the current rates. This isn’t meant for anyone here, as we all are in it for the fun, but it just seems like times are changing faster than our wallets!

5 pointsI picked up a hella stout wagon today, it has a tag on it Jake's Nashville Tennessee. Has 18 inch tall side boards with slotted angle iron attaching it all together. I removed the sides and set them aside for now, I will need to put new tires and clean the old grease out of them so it rolls easier, then fix a tongue so I can use my 656 to pull it. It is very heavily built for sure. 30 x 60 will sure be a nice size.

5 pointsI plan on turning it red some time soon, it was red once before but looked more of a simplicity orangish red, the place this came from did recently sell off his simplicity and all the implements, I bet he had this painted to match it at one time. 1 inch diameter axles should Cary plenty of chicken feed!
-
5 pointsBut on the flip side...I hate ads with no price or where the seller just says “make me an offer” or “best offer”. I pretty much pass on all those type of ads. I’m glad we “outlawed” make an offer ads here on Red Square! At least this guy has a starting price so you have an idea of where he wants to be price wise (outer space in this case )
-
5 pointsA guy that pays that is looking for a divorce. Hmmm, maybe that would work?? You can tell the seller is not a Wheel Horse guy. None of us would post a price that ended with $ .99, we would all be like $250, $25, $6,000, etc. Can you imagine telling someone...you bought your horse for $399.99???

5 pointsThe second V is cut out and the area is wire wheeled clean. The MIG is running low on 75/25 so I’ll roll the TIG up front next time I’m in the shop. G’night y’all.

4 pointsDan and I set a round hood on fire today... well mostly Dan ... I was pretty much there for air compressor wrenching! Too bad you guys don't get to see the finished goods 'till the unveiling!
-
4 pointsTrina did a little more grinding on some "pahts" today. She wore different socks so you all would know she has different socks. Foot rest rear bracket Seat spring and back rest bracket.
-
4 pointsMaybe his wife is putting pressure on him to sell it off and this is his way to keep it
-
4 points$5,999.99? Why don't they just say $6,000? Anyway, I think the seller is on a different planet.
-
4 pointsThat’s what I keep telling myself every time I have to hang up another pair of pants because they no longer fit!!

3 pointsMaybe if it comes with a mint low hour 420-LSE! It might be worth it!
-
3 pointsWell, I finally got back to my creation - it’s been a long week with something to do every night. I just finished tacking the tins together. I’m using my new inverter welder - talk about a learning curve! It burns much hotter and blows through much easier than my old transformer welder! Both are flux core, but this little dude really has the punch! More later.

3 pointsI'd respectfully disagree with the decline of interest in our hobby. The WH Show is getting bigger every year, and prices are going higher on decent tractors. Maybe it depends on your location, but interest seems great in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Connecticut, New York, etc. The garden tractor shows in general seem to attract many young people. It's encouraging to see younger men take up our hobby as we 'old codgers' are forced to downsize. Jim

2 pointsIf you leave the frame right side up as you have it now, you should be able to use a stock belt guard, cross shaft , clutch pulley, and steering assembly. Turning the frame upside down and adding a second frame under this one to get the engine low really complicated mine. I had to add a fixed idler to keep the belt low and moved the clutch idler and cross shaft forward right behind the engine. With the front axle above the fame, I had to move the tie rod linkage to the front of the axle to make the steering work. In my first arrangement, when I turned the wheel right, the front wheels turned left. I don't want to muddy your ideas, but if you get stuck, I can send you some detailed pictures of mine.

2 pointsThe GT1800 and 1848 were not Black Hoods. They had the same body style as The 300 and 400 series machines

2 pointsmusic to my ears ! two of my favs one friend has an original DZ 302 - and also has the factory chambered exhaust system ... that he had chrome plated ... and I had a 68 chev 4x4 shortbed with a great running 292 .. but all stock - not like the warmed over 292 you had I did throw a chrome plated valve cover on it though ... lol ... can't be sure - but the chrome valve cover might have been from a 250 ?

2 pointsBeen knocking out other non-tractor related projects lately, but got to spend an hour or so on this today. I got all of the metal in to convert it to a dump bed, extend the tongue, and upgrade to a 2" ball. Step 1 of doing that is a piece of channel for the tongue to ride in, so I worked on that today. The tongue is going to be 3" square tubing (3" square was cheaper than the 2x3 I think I mentioned earlier) and I needed something that would hold it firmly. I had several thoughts on this, including just buying a piece of channel that would work, but I didn't find anything off the shelf that met my needs for a reasonable cost. Another thought was to get some 1/8" steel sheet and form it around the tongue, but I know I would have struggled to do that to my standards with the equipment I have available, so I scrubbed that idea. I ended up just getting 3' of 3.5" square tubing with a 3/16 wall and cutting one side out of it. This is a lot more strength than is needed, but it will make things easier later. In theory, 1/4" wall tubing would have fit the tongue perfectly, but add some paint and a little bit of torque and it would have been locked together. 1/8" wall would have been easier to work with and more in line with the needed strength, but would have left a lot of slop to get rid of. 3/16 seemed like a good compromise. I cut out the side of the tubing with the weld in it for a couple of reasons. Number 1 is that if I left the weld it would probably interfere with the tongue despite having 1/16" clearance on either side. The other reason is that the weld introduces stresses to the material that can cause it to warp if you leave the weld and cut out another side. I've still got some grinding to do, but here's what I ended up with as the sun was setting. The blue line you see in one of the pics was a strip of masking tape I laid down to use as a cutting guide since I was near the edge of the material.

2 pointsI did as above today and some other things. The regulator on the tractor was badly corroded so I hucked it in the trash. I have a regulator from a 77 C-160 on there now and I moved it... To the exact outside of where it was. I added a ground wire for the VR. I found that the 2 AC wires were corroded and the insulation was completely off in one spot. Cut that all apart and rewired them. The ends of the VR/ignition switch wire were no better so that got the same treatment. Checked the kill/ground wire. It has a small spot near the ignition switch end that will be heat shrink wrapped. Trina took the plastic cover off of a C series dash and polished up the bare metal. I installed the key switch and throttle cable. Not happy with the throttle cable so I'll either rebendify it or swap out for a new one. Next will be to find a spot for the starter solenoid then finish wiring.

2 pointsOh, another luck knight.. independently for what or where you look, there is allway‘s one „Luck knight“ they upping a price to astronomical ranges. mostly they tell you stories about the things, like this was Elvis GT or similar... or it is extremely rare while.... blah blah blah. Whatever he tells, ( it’s extremely rare, or even lies or however) i think it‘s a normal thing on the market one is the first whos tryes. As long as this price will be payed, he seemed he’s right and earned a lot of Money with one single Deal, if this is a fair deal or not, that’s the other side of the medal - but if not, just the buyer is the horned. The market regulated mostly itself the Pricerange. So as on desinterests once he can keep his 5999,99Tractor for the eterinty or he must drop the price to a reasonable range to sell it. That‘s normal markets rules.

2 pointsI bought and sold a lot on CL in the past, but about a year ago I discovered FBMP and I have gotten much better response there. I joined the Wheel Horse Group. So WH ads are normally the only ones that appear.

2 pointsBrrr it's 36 here in Central Texas and that's cold enough for me! Should hit the mid-60's this afternoon. forecasting 70's Saturday and Sunday. @ebinmaine @1995 520H+96+97 I had a 1996 Ford truck like yours in my younger day. I I remember right, your grill looks like yours is a 65. Both of ya'll keep that minus stuff up there in Maine. Ok I'll admit it, I'm a little OK with cold dry weather, but we usually get cold wet weather and it chills me to the bone..

2 pointsI’m with Eric (as usual!) this is the only social media that I’ll do, but you still gotta look cause hey you just never know!!
-
2 pointsAgreed on all.... I do not have, or want, anything to do with any social media sites other than Redsquare so FB is not on my radar. I'm not at all in the market for any more tractors but I do take a peek every few days for the giggles...
-
2 pointsOk, made a small start on the project. propped the floor joists ready to remove the course of brick that will allow the steel lintel to go in. Widened the hole in the sleeper wall and carted all my tools in. The concrete floor is just the waste from when it was built so I can dig it out and get some headroom. Storm Dennis approacheth so indoor work is good, just done two hours litter picking in the wind and rain. Mick

2 pointsThank you everyone!!! I haven’t been able to tell of I’m coming or going the last few weeks! I had a fantastic birthday, stayed in my pajamas all day. I did get something Wheel Horse related, two somethings actually. The first is a 450 piece Craftsman Mechanics set. That will get lots of use come spring. The second is from @ebinmaine and Black Belt Trina: A Tablet top salt and pepper shaker set, in a little red tractor! I do miss having time to hang out on the forum. Before I got back to work, this site became pretty much my sole source of adult interaction being a stay at home dad. But a man who wants to be able to call himself a man does what his family needs, and they needed me at work so mom could stay home and get herself beck to school. I’m currently working weekend overnights, Sat-Mon 1800-0600. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I watch the littles while the misses is at class. Hopefully come summer, when her schedule changes, I’ll be able to change mine as well, as well as have some more free time! 🤞🏻 Thank you all again for the birthday wishes, they mean a lot!

2 pointsThere's six levers on the hoe I made and yeah, it's a pain in the @@@ when using it until you get used to it. But still don't think I ever have. 2 are for the stabilizers so 2 joysticks would certainly make it much more user friendly. That was my first hydraulic adventure and wish I knew better as the instructions called for dividing 2 sets of 3 spool valves. Definitely need to upgrade that to joysick control. And @DarrellF Don't forget to look for one with float on one of the spools or if you can add it to the valve. The float feature comes in handy.

2 pointsI measured within a few thousandths on my depth to the wheel bearing face. Close enough for the girl I go with!

2 pointsOne VW spindle machined. I drilled and tapped the end to have a bolt that holds the wheel onto the spindle. It beats tracking down special left and right hand threaded fine thread 18mm locking/clamping nuts.
