I just wanted to share these. I was going thru pictures on a camera card and found these I took about 3 years ago. The 702 was my father in-laws, It was my first of my round hoods - it has been in my wife's family since 1965. I picked up the 854 about 8 or so years ago with a stuck intake valve and a bad 4 speed. It now runs great and has the 8 speed Unidrive from a 1979 C81. Bill

Well now that I can post pictures we wanted to share this with all of you! Here is the beauty that my husband is really proud of and now owns after a year of wishing and wanting lol. He picked it up last part of January 2020!! The old man bought it a few years ago from the original the owner we understand. Now the guy my husband bought it from, said his health wasn’t up to it so he set this tractor inside his shed strapped on pallets and covered up! He posted it for sale several times over the past year, but we felt it was out of price range at the time. Then it disappeared so we figured it sold then it came up again different pictures! However many conversations later we have it in our heard! They both settled on a price both could be happy with! So our youngest daughter made the trip with her Dad to get this 854 and have some quality father daughter time as I couldn’t get off work. It’s a surprisingly well kept surviver, having the original paint. The blade has its decals, original paint and the mower deck the same plus it has new wheel horse brand belts on it...! It was a day in travel time but the following day he was playing on it.. Replaced the battery, added gas! Then noticed gasket on the fuel tank had dried out and was leaking and the fuel pump was leaking against the engine as the gasket was placed up side down. That has now been replaced and a gasket for the fuel tank ordered but it stopped leaking so the gasket is on hand if it starts again. He added rear weights and chains and it’s now his go to tractor! The HY-3 lift allows him precise height of the blade! Has used it twice moving snow and comes up with excuses to use it for other things! IMG_7087.MOV

It looks wider in the front, even from the back. It’s just that tubbed rearend look that is deceiving... The rear is currently about 2-3” wider and will be widened another 3” or so.

Please move if needed mods! Check out what I just saw on one of the auction sites! Very nice tractor, but the price!! $5,999! It is all original, but for that price you’re getting into Sr range. Maybe this seller is just reaching for the sky, but I don’t think anyone will ever pay that price. I’m not sure about the rapid price escalation of the prices of parts and tractors. Affordability is one of the things that I love about our hobby, but it might start to exclude some of us at the current rates. This isn’t meant for anyone here, as we all are in it for the fun, but it just seems like times are changing faster than our wallets!

I picked up a hella stout wagon today, it has a tag on it Jake's Nashville Tennessee. Has 18 inch tall side boards with slotted angle iron attaching it all together. I removed the sides and set them aside for now, I will need to put new tires and clean the old grease out of them so it rolls easier, then fix a tongue so I can use my 656 to pull it. It is very heavily built for sure. 30 x 60 will sure be a nice size.

I plan on turning it red some time soon, it was red once before but looked more of a simplicity orangish red, the place this came from did recently sell off his simplicity and all the implements, I bet he had this painted to match it at one time. 1 inch diameter axles should Cary plenty of chicken feed!

But on the flip side...I hate ads with no price or where the seller just says “make me an offer” or “best offer”. I pretty much pass on all those type of ads. I’m glad we “outlawed” make an offer ads here on Red Square! At least this guy has a starting price so you have an idea of where he wants to be price wise (outer space in this case )
  10. 5 points
A guy that pays that is looking for a divorce. Hmmm, maybe that would work?? You can tell the seller is not a Wheel Horse guy. None of us would post a price that ended with $ .99, we would all be like $250, $25, $6,000, etc. Can you imagine telling someone...you bought your horse for $399.99???

Heck, if I can't get that for my 312-8 I'm not going to sell it!

The second V is cut out and the area is wire wheeled clean. The MIG is running low on 75/25 so I’ll roll the TIG up front next time I’m in the shop. G’night y’all.

Dan and I set a round hood on fire today... well mostly Dan ... I was pretty much there for air compressor wrenching! Too bad you guys don't get to see the finished goods 'till the unveiling!

Trina did a little more grinding on some "pahts" today. She wore different socks so you all would know she has different socks. Foot rest rear bracket Seat spring and back rest bracket.

Maybe his wife is putting pressure on him to sell it off and this is his way to keep it
  16. 4 points
$5,999.99? Why don't they just say $6,000? Anyway, I think the seller is on a different planet.

That’s what I keep telling myself every time I have to hang up another pair of pants because they no longer fit!!

Well, I finally got back to my creation - it’s been a long week with something to do every night. I just finished tacking the tins together. I’m using my new inverter welder - talk about a learning curve! It burns much hotter and blows through much easier than my old transformer welder! Both are flux core, but this little dude really has the punch! More later.

I'd respectfully disagree with the decline of interest in our hobby. The WH Show is getting bigger every year, and prices are going higher on decent tractors. Maybe it depends on your location, but interest seems great in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Connecticut, New York, etc. The garden tractor shows in general seem to attract many young people. It's encouraging to see younger men take up our hobby as we 'old codgers' are forced to downsize. Jim

Yep, It'll never sell at that price.

If you leave the frame right side up as you have it now, you should be able to use a stock belt guard, cross shaft , clutch pulley, and steering assembly. Turning the frame upside down and adding a second frame under this one to get the engine low really complicated mine. I had to add a fixed idler to keep the belt low and moved the clutch idler and cross shaft forward right behind the engine. With the front axle above the fame, I had to move the tie rod linkage to the front of the axle to make the steering work. In my first arrangement, when I turned the wheel right, the front wheels turned left. I don't want to muddy your ideas, but if you get stuck, I can send you some detailed pictures of mine.

The GT1800 and 1848 were not Black Hoods. They had the same body style as The 300 and 400 series machines

Been knocking out other non-tractor related projects lately, but got to spend an hour or so on this today. I got all of the metal in to convert it to a dump bed, extend the tongue, and upgrade to a 2" ball. Step 1 of doing that is a piece of channel for the tongue to ride in, so I worked on that today. The tongue is going to be 3" square tubing (3" square was cheaper than the 2x3 I think I mentioned earlier) and I needed something that would hold it firmly. I had several thoughts on this, including just buying a piece of channel that would work, but I didn't find anything off the shelf that met my needs for a reasonable cost. Another thought was to get some 1/8" steel sheet and form it around the tongue, but I know I would have struggled to do that to my standards with the equipment I have available, so I scrubbed that idea. I ended up just getting 3' of 3.5" square tubing with a 3/16 wall and cutting one side out of it. This is a lot more strength than is needed, but it will make things easier later. In theory, 1/4" wall tubing would have fit the tongue perfectly, but add some paint and a little bit of torque and it would have been locked together. 1/8" wall would have been easier to work with and more in line with the needed strength, but would have left a lot of slop to get rid of. 3/16 seemed like a good compromise. I cut out the side of the tubing with the weld in it for a couple of reasons. Number 1 is that if I left the weld it would probably interfere with the tongue despite having 1/16" clearance on either side. The other reason is that the weld introduces stresses to the material that can cause it to warp if you leave the weld and cut out another side. I've still got some grinding to do, but here's what I ended up with as the sun was setting. The blue line you see in one of the pics was a strip of masking tape I laid down to use as a cutting guide since I was near the edge of the material.

67-69 DZ302... Built for Z/28s only. Rugged little buggers.. Rated 290 HP. Actual was "estimated" closer to 400... One o my favorites... Never owned one. Rarely even seen one. And the venerable 292. I had a good one back about 16 or 18 years ago. Offenhauser aluminum intake. Tiny little Holley 4380 carb. 450cfm. Mechanical secondaries. Great runner.

Dell when I was trying to get the mongrel 1267/87 to go I had to modify the belt guard by riveting a long L bracket to the inside of it. If want that for parts or whatever just pay the freight and it's yours.

The size of the point gap determines the TIME the points are open. NOT the strength of the spark. The longer or shorter it takes to open and close them determines where/when in the rotation of the crankshaft the plug gets fired.

Well, I got the front cut out for my legs and @Ed Kennell my arse barely fits between those tubs! I’m going to have to stiffen that body up some before I go much farther. Any good ideas?

What a funny Day... Because of no snow, i do the monthly checkup and Enginerun on my machines, after the Horse has it’s check done and still is running in idle, i do it on the Beast. Both engines starts without any issues, all machines work in all functions as expected. then i recover the Horse , but whilst the engine on the Beast was still running, i spontaneusely decide today, to have a longer ride today with the Beast to recharge the Battery fully. So i started my today’s Tour firstly thru the forrest, later along the Country roads. I drove with 2/3 throttle smooth and steady the Way. Few minutes later i see a Police Car on patrol (first time in our Area), but i know everything is right and clear. They just drove about few hundret meters and ask me some questions thru the open Window.. 😂😂 All was fine with Paperwork and they leave me. What a crazy Check..🤔😂😂😂 i still crossing the Raulroad and then come a long straight so i decide to see if my Fella is at home or not. still on his place, but he went out. than i jump back in the Seat and fireup the Beast to continue my Tour. on my way back, i passing few Fields down the Railroad i drove along on some country roads to the Valley, where i purchased last year my Potato seed. i grabbed a 10Kilos and put in the FEL (what a great trunk) while i talking with the Farmer and his lady, 2 neighbours of him come to us and ask me several things about the Beast. They both thinkering to buy such a small tractor as an addon for the Boy‘s, especially for their Boys, later they offered me they want purchase also for themself but the Ladies - you know.... 😂😂😂 to give them more fun to do that work. I told them this Garden Tractors was just my hobby, nothing i wanna earn money with, but it seems i started here a „hype“ for small tractors today...🤔 ... and it was not really their Boy‘s they get fire and flames on...😂😂😂 While we are talking about the“ small GT pro and cons“ few neighbour come and we had a nice conversation. They told me i was the first one with such a small roadlegal Minitractor who droves in this Area. ok, i get some dubious views about the max speed on 14 Km/h but it moves and i be independantly and - it is my Hobby no more no less. We discussed a lot about fuels, new one or older one, and different points what they can do. Than i must give them a small Demonstration on my small selfmade FEL, what it is able to do. they be impressed, what that little thing can handle, they doubt it will handle. the bigges laughs i earned for my counterweightbox... but i can live with. they thaught i transport Pig feed... 😂😂😂😂😂😂 but the pallet fork becomes still its interesting. Lifting 450Kilos was enough for most of their needs. I carefully try for initiate maybe within the next years a plowday, maybe somedays 😎 and get in first some curious views of how and what i meant, i told them about my Fellas in the US are doing this, that‘s much more fun than „just pull“ with the bigger machine. This can be done later still further but that is just a challenge of Fun. It can be started as an plow for Fun and ends up in a challenge, but Fun must be in foreground on this „Plowday“ So everybody can learn and test if his setup was good or if there are possibilities to enhance or imporove. This idea get‘s different responses, but i felt about that conversation, the interest is given.👍 Than i thanks for the Coffee, we get from the Boss (Farmers lady) 😂 and i continue my Way. with the seed in the FEL i drove back home. along Country roads, and finally passing the Forrest back home. I like that view thru the Mountains they about 50 Km Far. i just missed the snow, but not this day, that was a perfect excuse for no Snow. End of the day‘s result: What a nice ride with a great meeting - and the Battery in the Beast is now definitiv fully Charged.

Thank you everyone!!! I haven’t been able to tell of I’m coming or going the last few weeks! I had a fantastic birthday, stayed in my pajamas all day. I did get something Wheel Horse related, two somethings actually. The first is a 450 piece Craftsman Mechanics set. That will get lots of use come spring. The second is from @ebinmaine and Black Belt Trina: A Tablet top salt and pepper shaker set, in a little red tractor! I do miss having time to hang out on the forum. Before I got back to work, this site became pretty much my sole source of adult interaction being a stay at home dad. But a man who wants to be able to call himself a man does what his family needs, and they needed me at work so mom could stay home and get herself beck to school. I’m currently working weekend overnights, Sat-Mon 1800-0600. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I watch the littles while the misses is at class. Hopefully come summer, when her schedule changes, I’ll be able to change mine as well, as well as have some more free time! 🤞🏻 Thank you all again for the birthday wishes, they mean a lot!
