My wife was tired of the rose bushes in the garden. We planted them about 7-8 years ago, and although they were healthy, the wife had other ideas for that garden. So I got orders to yank them out. Not a problem, as I pulled quite a few shrubs out with the WH, I used my old military lifting straps and put a loop around the base of the bush. I tried making an easy tug, and got nothing but wheel spin. OK, time for a little more aggressive approach. I got several feet of slack in the strap, and dumped the clutch in 2nd gear hi range. It didn’t budge. Several more attempts made me realize these things have a bigger root system than I thought.. About a year ago, I was given a 5000 lb. Ramsey winch. The guy said it didn’t work. After putting in a new solenoid and cleaning up a few electrical connections, it worked fine. Then I built a bracket to mount it to the front hitch mount on my tractor. Okay, I can hear you now... Why would you put a 5000 lb. winch on a 700 lb. tractor? Best reasons I can come up with is 1) the winch was free, and 2) because I can. I have been accused of being nuts if that helps explain. I backed the tractor up to a large tree and ran straps to the rear hitch. . I can report the setup worked great! It snatched those rose bushes out without any strain. Now I’m looking forward to the next time the wife decides to redecorate the gardens! Did I mention I can install the winch in about 5 minutes with two 3/4” bolts, and two cables directly to the battery. Danny

My 1974 C-160 has dug and pushed quite a bit of dirt doing some leveling and drainage work. The soil is a sandy/clay fine granite gravel and it digs well if slightly damp, but is had as rock if dry.

Hey all....some probably already know this. Can't remember if I posted this here as my old age is not helping with memory.... Last November the opportunity of buying one of my favorite tractors came up. This is a tractor I never thought would be available to purchase. Mr. John Campbell had it built by Mr. Robert Rock. The craftsmanship that goes in to the tractors Robert builds is simply amazing. You have to see them in person to actually appreciate his work. Well, I had to sell a few of my prized tractors to buy this beast but think it was worth it. The only complaint I have so far is the power. Hopefully Robert may be able to help me but not a super major issue. This tractor was not meant for work and basically a show piece. However, it has been working just a little since I've owned it. Recently the starter went out which became more of an issue than should have. However, it is is fixed and back in action. Here are a few pictures of it now. Hopefully will get some video soon when it warms up.

Hello all new member from New Hampshire. Just bought my first Wheel horse Raider 12.

Some more stragglers to consider are the GT14, 1054/953. I think '66 was the first year for the long frame. My 1076 is one of them. Pretty sure the end of the short frames was the Commando 800, around 1972?

Lots of fantastic pics in this thread. Thanks everyone for posting them. I used the cinnamon horse to go across the street and get five loads of wood in a 10 cube trailer. Should equal out to pretty near half cord. Here's where I was collecting from. I was able to get within about 20 feet of the pile. I figure I made about 55 or 60 trips back and forth. First load Post-split waiting out back to come inside. This is four of the five trailer loads split. A shot of the 4 running tractors we have.

That can get a little confusing to some. I'm not sure about the models that were built before 1964. 1964 to 1966 all short frames 1967 if you have an 8 horse it was short, 12-horse it was long. 1968 to 1973 I think followed a similar formula 1974 and 1975. If you're not confused enough. B series was a mid length-frame. Yes you read that right. C-series was a long frame. 1976 and up as far as I know everything was a long frame...... ?? Others will be along to elaborate on the placees where my knowledge Lacks.

Nope. I think it's awesome. Trailer queens and show cruisers are fine in their own way. I appreciate MUCH more when older machines and custom rigs do what they were originally built for.

The first big work weekend for the freshly restored 520H- she dragged brush and trees, and pulled wagon loads of firewood and trash like a champ. Even got a little 1 mile field ride in afterward. God I love this tractor!

I agree with everything said. I have shared what I have been going through recently with my battles with cancer. Found out past Feb that I had cancer in my throat and while in the hospital having surgery on my throat one of the scans revealed I also have cancer on my pancreas. News that nobody ever wants to hear. This past year I admit has been hell. I wouldnt wish what I have been through on anyone. It effects you physically, mentally, and financially. Nothing about it is easy. I live alone, I have never been married, and I have no kids. Sure I wish things were different but this is my life. I dont feel sorry for myself. I dont feel defeated. I dont ask for pity. I do once in awhile ask and need help. Every one of us needs help once in awhile in our lives. There is no shame in that. The help could come in the form of advice on fixing a tractor, a ride to treatment, or just being in someones company. We all need a hand up from time to time. All that I have been through has been life changing. Going forward my life will never be like it was just one year ago. Thats my point. We must move forward not look back. Going forward I look at people much differently. I can not thank people enough for the help and care I have received. To everyone in the hospital, doctors , nurses, the staff that changed my sheets and cleaned my room everyday. They all did it with a smile and ALWAYS asked me if there was anything else they could do for me. To my family that gave me strength and encouragement to go through just one more surgery... just one more treatment... just one more day. All wishing it could be them instead of me. Friends for doing everything I couldnt do on my own once I was out of hospital. People are amazing. I see that even total strangers say to me " if there is anything I can do for you just ask" and I know in their hearts that they mean every word. Asking for a hand up isnt the same as asking for a hand out. You cant change the past but you can change your future. Its hard. Everyday I struggle. mentally now more then physically but Im still here fighting. Doing what makes me happy. Red Square makes me happy. Talking tractors or trucks or hot rods all make me happy. So does listening to friends like 12Horse and Darb and knowing that I am not alone. Sharing my experiences with them and hoping their tomorrow will be a better day. Red Square is not all about tractors. Its about good people offering help, sharing past experiences, caring for one and other. Notice here there isnt much discussion on how things went wrong but what can we share from our past experiences to help. You are never alone, what ever it is you are going through someone has already been there and done that. Strength in numbers.

Last spring The Hydrostat in my 1994 GT 1855 stopped working. At the time I went out and bought a Ferris Zero turn but wanted to keep the tractor for the large snow blower I have for it. It has an Eaton 11 pump which as I'm sure many of you know, are difficult to impossible to get parts for. I did track down a gasket kit for it but that was it. I didn't want to buy a used one and inherit any problems it might have. So I tore it apart after much youtube video watching. Fortunately, all it was was a stuck check valve. I soaked the disc in brake cleaner for several days, replaced all o-rings and such, was liberal with the assembly lube and put it all back together. In the meantime, since to get the pump out requires moving the engine forward, and to do that requires tearing half the front end off, I decided to do a total tear down and repaint/rebuild. All new bushings, wire wheeled off the rust, primed, painted and re-assembled. All while praying that the pump worked again after all of that work. I'm please to say that it worked like a champ in the recent snow storm we had. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Kev - just thought I'd throw another couple of cents worth of opinion into the ring. Probably too soon to talk about paint color, but, how about an MDOT theme? Orange, with yellow and green flashing lights, a belly plow underneath, and a salt spreader out back. After all, you do plow driveways.....

well it is finally red i think it is a little dark tho told our paint salesman i wanted IH red but there are 2 diff. red's the old red and the new red i think he sold me the new red but once it started spraying nothing can do about it i think my trans i rattle caned is going to be a little lighter red but oh well or maybe it just me starting to go color blind just got to get it all home without scratching it lol

I think we all invest in things that we know are bad investments financially, but they pay off in other ways. I'm going to have around $1000 and who knows how many hours in this trailer before it's usable. But like most of my hobbies, it's expensive but it's cheaper than bail and legal fees. I am 100% convinced that the only reason I haven't committed a heinous crime worthy of news coverage in all 50 states is my hobbies.

Hmmmm. I picked up an ATV winch for cheap at the local HF last year. Was planning on making brackets for temporary mounting on U Haul car trailer. Last time I hauled a car, I had to load it with rope and a come along. The winch sounded easier. My Horse has a front Tach-a-matic. Sounds like a good project to make an adaptor for the winch to hang on the front Tach-a-matic.

It looks great!! The old IH red is darker that the new IH red. Example : a Farmall H is darker than a Case IH 7120. The newer color is a closer match to red, I think. But then again I've never had a new old stock piece to take to a jobber so that they can use a scanner on it. To be perfectly honest about color, in the ball park is quite close enough. No one will persecute you, unless you spray your JD green & yellow . To haul my freshly painted parts, I lay some cardboard down in the bed of my truck & space every thing out as much as I can. Then the trip home is done as though I'm driving on eggs the whole way home.

I have been with Tracfone for several years and was recently notified that they need to replace my phone as it will no longer be compatible with their system. I am old and very resistant to change, really going to miss this faithful old phone.

My Simplicity 9020 is destined to become a donor, rear transaxle, Sundstrand hydro, front ribbed tires and rear Ag's onto the Allis Chalmers 720 with the Arc loader. The tractor and loader will become part of my oil distilling operation. I'll be moving next to a cedar mill, the sawdust can be steam distilled for the cedar wood oil. Allis came from a seller in Alberta who delivered it to Manitoba now the tractor is going to British Colombia as part of my settlers affects.

This is the Cub muffler Eric was talking about -- It looks like it would be about a 10 minute job to mount on your tractor, saw the pepper pot off and clamp the cub on. They are relatively inexpensive - $50ish and have just about the right muffled tone.

I want you guys to know some things. Things that make you all special to me. ... I was born with mild CP. Bullied in school. Rough life...sure lots i kno had it worse...but this was mine, thatsall. Anyways...ive always been socially awkward, low esteem; depression...you kno. Well...my whole life ive tried to do whats right. Even when i was a practicing drunk (13 yrs sober)...most said i was what youd call a 'good guy'; kind thatd give you the shirt off his back, forsaking his own. Well, not perfectly...but yes, thats me. And when i go all in...well i kno what that means...and my word was...is...the one thing noone could ever say i sold out, or gave away. I never expected much of my life. Finding God more easily than ever when i sobered, i just trusted Him. Didnt have a pot to pee in when i quit the drink in 06, i wasnt farther along in '10. Had already been living here for 10 yrs...with only 1 real friend to my name. Met her, then... Look, we never married...but she is IT for me. She decided recently...i wasnt. Now, there is more to the story...invoving my wrongs...hers too...a mutal friend who passed of cancer in '16 (how ive come to 'live' in this run down house); now just me an my dog Clara (see pic). Boys n girls, im telling you...financially we will be tied for yrs unless i do my usual financial digging out (been in n out of debt 4 times so far in my life, proud to say). Im thankful we are BOTH the kind of people that wouldnt screw some1 over that way (she has a great job; im on a fixed income...harder for me, but i kno she wouldnt let me starve lol). But, thing is...im the guy i spoke of above. Even in this city. Isolated. Kinda socially inept. Rough past....if it werent for God...id just talk to Clara mostly. I have good long term friend 120 miles north... ut that doesnt help, here, with this. My life, shambles as it is. And if it wasnt for forums years ago....but only this one, now...id feel i have noone human to regularly 'hang around' with, or socialize. You all are literally helping me get by. That is why you, this place, is special. In closing...please, dont think im blaming her, or anyone, for my current lot in life. The blame(s) are all mine...she is a wonderful Lady. I just screwed up. Its what i do best, lol. And plz dont think im asking for sympathy. Im not....but writing is therapy, i think, for me. I know some1 will read it...maybe itll help them, even just to see it could be worse, to keep trying. Im still fighting some of my demons. Hopefully i have one more chance left. We will see. But i couldnt say that to any1 but all of you, tonight...im not very brave rightnow; these days. I may be in rough shape...even typing this is hard...but i know enough to say God Bless You All. Thankyou for listening. I hope i did not offend, or upset any1, or say too much. But to close with a paraphrase from John Wayne in 'the Shootist'... 'Im a grown man, alone, scared of the dark'

Thanks guys! She's home, and as an added bonus, he threw the Tecumseh in with it. That would make the decision easy, but I was not aware the parts are getting hard to find for them, and this one needs points, flywheel (tossed a magnet) and carb. Might go on the shelf. Glad to hear a OHV clone is not blasphemy haha. Might peek around for a Kohler 8hp that some of you mentioned. The wagon was the real score! Needed one for yard work and didnt even realize it was a Wheel Horse til I got there. Pristine, stored indoors, 50 beans. Did I do ok?
