Managed to pick up a 704 which is a rare opportunity in the UK. Stood for many years as you can see but has not been messed with and still has the K161 in place which turns over and has compression which I didn't expect. Work to do before I can attempt to get it running but looking forward to that. Tyres are shot, carb is crusty etc, etc but looking forward to working on it. It will be one of those leave alone or fully rebuild questions going forward but I like it as it is at the minute...

I found this forum after picking up my first red, a nice 520H, needing helpful info on it. A simple lawnmower and utility tractor in one for a place I just bought. Next thing I know it’s in pieces nearly to the frame and received a pretty nice restoration with some light custom work. Through all this I ran across a lot of photos of some really super horses on here. I have an addictive personality and plenty of hobbies, and one tractor is enough. Then a 654 popped up locally at a pretty good price. I’m off to pick it up by the weekend, and blame it all on this great forum and the great people who helped me along on the 520. If you see the boss (and we all know who the boss is, right?) don’t mention this. Gonna have to hide it and break her in easy. Do I get to be one of them round hood club folks now?

I recently inherited an old newspaper from July 4th 1968 and decided to look through it and found this ad. Perhaps I should post this in the dealer list post? Mods please feel free to move it. Thank you. I bought my first Wheel Horse from this dealer in 1984.

God help you if you are worried about the wife with just 2 horses. What are you going to do when it is the 4th horse.?? Hint...the 2nd horse is for dedication...so you don't have to change implements in the middle of a storm. The 3rd horse is just in case one desires to take a break. The 4th...well, now you are just collecting.

I've had several people request to see the yard and driveway we plow with the Cinnamon Horse and 867 (Pig Pen) Here's a couple videos of our upper yard. We also plow behind the house next to the shed where the chicken coop is. Last night we had 6 inches of light fluffy snow. Cinnamon is very heavy and handled it easily. Pig Pen does quite well but doesn't steer... Eventually we'll get some chain on her front tires. I really enjoy myself and Trina absolutely loves ❤️ plowing snow. @Lee1977 here's actual real live video proof that I did some of the work.

I'm fairly sure at least one of us tried to warn you. Maybe it was even me? I don't know. So here's the thing. A hair covered horse is a herd animal. They really like to be around other horses. Now to be honest, I don't think any of us has actually figured out why ... BUT for some reason paint covered horses also turn out to be a herd animal. 3 years ago or whatever I had one. We now have 4 that run and drive and 4 that are in project stage. It's okay if you just accept this addiction and move forward with it. We will be here to egg you on... (That should say support you)... Good luck. Have fun. Keep asking questions. Share lots of pictures.

I was able to get the tires mounted during the week. Yesterday was spent on wiring. Because connectors and water do not get along for long, not one connector or terminal was used to wire the trailer lights. All connections are soldiered and shrink wrapped, then covered with loom. Today consisted of a little wood working, nothing fancy other than a little router work to make depressions for the recessed tie downs. One thing that had concerned me with this build was staying with in DOT laws on width. I knew that it was going to be close after I put the fenders on. Either my figures were accurate or I got lucky because I came in 1" under maximum width . With this project done now I can get back to some Horse play. Here are some pics of the final product. Nothing left to do on the trailer now except for get a few scratches in it so that I'm not afraid to use it.

I got my wheels and hubs back from powder coating on Thursday, got my tires mounted, put it all back together, and took my first drive. I’ve got some tinkering to do, but this little 552 is a blast.

Or hot rods... Or Harleys... Or muscle cars... Or big tractors... Don't worry we'll help you out in divorce court ... we'll come buy your tractors.......... heard tell dem lawyers can be pricey..... who knows might get lucky and the judge is a collector!

I've said several times and bring it up again. I can honestly justify one tractor per implement and one implement per tractor. Plus spares... There's a lot of implements......

Tell you what you did such a fine job on that 520 we'll let you have a dozen more!!
  14. 6 points
Nice job on the 520! And we all know how hard it is to have just one , in my heyday I had around 15 or 16 machines. Most ran, couple didn’t, a couple were strictly parts machines etc. Weened myself down to 4 or 5 Wheel Horses in stock now. But it’s so hard to not drag home every red machine I come across.

If I saw any of those decals on a truck at Lowe’s or Home Depot I’d probably have to wait in the parking lot for the guy to come out so I could introduce myself and talk Wheel Horses!!!

One last fight...The woodruff key did not want to leave its home. Had to use the dremel cut off wheel to slit it then chisel to collapse the sides a bit.

The Workhorse GT1100 and GT1600 are essentially a 300 series machine. The Workhorse GT1800 is along the same lines as a 417Hydro. This is my GT1600 which came with a Briggs 16 twin originally, has a Kohler Mag 10 now.

Hey, guys. I have been searching around a bit and was surprised to see quite a few pellet stoves with prices all aver the place. I think people expect no maintenance and then tire of them pretty quick.I thought I missed a decent opportunity and then this stove showed up. A guy about my age was getting his kitchen remodeled and his wife wants this super clean one gone . It has external air supply which is a great thing for shop use. i want to be able to have some carb clean spray in use and not worry about it. This model has the vertical blower ports which means it is a size and quality above the $1200 model sold by home depot. i think pellets is the way to go if using wood heat in a shop. The fire is not huge and can be extinguished fairly quickly by cutting off the fuel..Also the unit can be transported and used in a property that needs some TLC and the productivity gains working in comfort should make it almost a free purchase. ditto in the shop. Got her for about 15 cents on the dollar vs. new. will post some pics when i haul it home. I have had a good fall/ winter with with finding bargains that are better than expected. I just recently traded some scrap metal for a nice compressor and Ariens Snowblower.

Thought I would start a new thread because originally I was going to do a patina build but as I got into these two chargers there was a lot of welding repair needed to get it done. So I decided to strip the paint off of everything and start from the beginning. So here I go! By next step will be to get into the transmission and fix the parking brake part inside.

First of all that 520 is beautiful. Now with that said the second thing is you need to remind your significant other that collecting these is a whole lot cheaper then say antique cars.

My father in law does, he works part time on an old steam train here in Connecticut and he has always had a passion for railroad memorabilia. He's got all sorts of stuff in his basement. Now I am trying to get him into Wheel Horse. He told me he had a Lawn Ranger growing up and he loved it, so I've been looking around to try to find him one to get him back on something red. Currently his only ride on tractor is an old 1940's Beaver tractor that was originally made here in CT as well.

I have a Work Horse GT-1800 that I bought new in 1984. Some people knock the Briggs engine but I can tell you that mine has literally thousands of hours on it and it still runs fine. I’ve never done anything to it other than change the oil often. And yes 1 1/8” axels. This tractor is a Wheel Horse through and through. Here’s mine, I gave it a well deserved restoration two years ago.
