Pulled the engine from the 522xi and replaced both coils. Popped the flywheel off to check it and glad I did. Cleaned all the mud/grass out of it, blew out the fins, checked the magnets. Replaced the front steering cylinder bolt, put a missing lock nut on the rear of the steering cylinder and deleted the “smart steer” function while I was in there. Everything got a good cleaning. Found a couple other things to fix but haven’t got that far yet.

I use my 520 a lot to pull a regular trailer into and around property with a considerable amount of weight and steering is always a problem. Needed quick front weight without removing mule drive. Devised this simple quick bracket with unistrut parts to mount directly on the mule drive. It already had an existing hole in the correct spot. Now I can quickly add weight as needed.

This past Saturday Trina and I took a 3 mile stroll on Dunn's loop in Andover Maine. The trailhead is the Appalachian Trail parking lot on East B Hill Rd. @posifour11 here's a few for your other half...

Several months ago I ordered this Sunex service cart for work. It served me well, but it did have some downfalls, one major one was the top tray wasn’t big enough or deep enough to hold all my sockets. Finally broke down today and upgraded to the US General. So much more room and much better quality. Had to settle for the black one as they were out of red and blue, which were my first two choices

So here's a weird one I wanted to share some pictures of, wondering if anyone else has ever seen or heard of such a thing. This was originally a mink feeder, used on a mink farm in northern Wisconsin (which is definitely mink country). Originally there was a tub for the feed and an auger behind the seat which unfortunately is missing. There are no tags on the tractor and although I certainly doubt Wheel Horse built these, my guess is that a 3rd party manufacture built and sold these using WH parts, similarly to what Haska did with modified Speedex tractors during the same time period. There are (2) transmissions; a hydrostatic trans to drive the tractor and a gear drive that would have run the auger. It's 5' long overall. I've seen and own the Speedex/Haska mink feeders, but never a Wheel Horse version until now.

I posted these picture on one of the Wheel Horse Facebook groups and a gentleman just posted this picture of his that came off of a mink farm in Michigan years ago! Pretty wild to see the feed bin!

Hi everybody, Quick introduction. Was shopping for a lawn tractor for the mother-in-law to mow her 1+ acres, and came across a deal for two tractors. Was looking at JD's, but these WH's look pretty cool, and simple to work on. I'm a fix it guy, so should be a breeze, but I like the HUGE forum here. Lots of data! Thanks in advance for all the help. When kinfolk, friends and neighbors come over to borrow one of your 40 + year old red tractor because their third, fourth, fifth store bought tractor is broken again. They still think new is better than old .

See I can tell that you are a real mechanic because your tools are nice and neat and organized. While the tools in my shade tree mechanic shop are scattered all over a country mile.

I finally got some deer on the cam during daylight hours. I'll pull the card and post them when I get back. Headed North tomorrow to hunt the lease in Cameron Co. We made the deer camp meal this afternoon. Deer steak, gravy and biscuits. The recipe is in @stevasaurus steve's recipe thread.

I think the US General boxes are great! Harbor Freight sells a lot of sub-standard tools (in my opinion anyway) but their tool boxes are one of the exceptions. This is mine...

What a clever way of doing this I like it! Great way of adding weight and being able to still use the mule drive! This is what I did to get some weight out front - C-85

It takes me 10 minutes to dig for a socket to fit. Then when I pick one up it's metric there goes another 10 minutes !!

Lots of great advise here, but the best advice of all is that many of you just guided my own thoughts and my wife's to come to a decision. We lived very frugally all the time since a year ago when this thread began. First we went to zero debt on the real estate and continued to work and save all our Social Security. Because of how we structured our SS, mine goes up by $300.00 a month in 2,5 years. Sadly, that loophole is no longer available. I started looking for the biggest bang for the buck, and for us it was a new RAV4 Hybrid. My wife was not having a pickup, so that was that When you buy a Hybrid, it only costs $700 more than a AWD, and we certainly wanted that. The brakes last like forever on these things because of regenerative braking. Base model plus Hybrid plus a small upgrade to help detect crossing foot traffic and cars coming across from the back. We thought that was a good decision because it is hard to watch out for people walking with their nose stuck in a cell phone who walk right in to your space as your battery powered car is making no noise.. The salesman did not want to take off a lot off the sticker, so I told him we would just buy a 2020 model through costco when the new models come out because of depreciation and all that. Then we got our price. We 'financed the car ' for the smallest amount allowed to get an additional $900 off sticker. The paperwork came last night, so i called Toyota to get the payoff on the loan. Total interest was $19 and change. So still debt free on everything with a car that is rated 40MPG and should help to pay back the depreciation between new and used somewhat. When we put pencil to paper it really made sense. We did a life cycle on the RAV vs a loaded Accura private sale on a 2016 and also a used RAV from the same year . With all the additional safety and backup cameras the RAV beat them both by a wide margin. The fact that it does not hurt our bodies to get in and out of the RAV is a nice bonus. Maybe I can keep saving some more and get that C-160 I have been seeking....

That's usually my dilemma Ritchie... to pop the fly wheel and clean behind it or not. Usually do and usually glad I did. Crazy not to on a beast like that.

We have some pretty hiking areas around here - and even some hills - but they don't much compare to the mountains of Maine. Beautiful. I'm envious! This year my wife took up hiking as a hobby, and she's been loving it. I've not been able to go with her as much as I'd like since the kids always have other places to be but it's been a great time when I do. For me, hiking was always a means to an end...usually a fishing hole or something lies at the end of the path. But I've really started to enjoy more of the journey. Lots of little grey Fergies over here. Go to most shows and you'll see plenty. As for the blocks cracking. Never heard of that unless left over winter with no antifreeze in the coolant. Go for it Eric.

Cool. Trina knew of it. We've hiked Mt Greylock. Went up the old Alpine ski course WOWOWOWOW was that a steep hike. Just enough grade where you couldn't quite use your hands but we were tilted forward and sure stretched our calf muscles that day!!! Yeah. Air roots. We see that ALOT here in New England. Our terrain is so filled with rocks the trees have no options.

I do it the easy way and just don't paint anything! No worries about any scratches or dings and no wiping anything down with a diaper.

When you are retired you can do foolish things like this. I have the rims painted so I thought it would be cheaper to do this instead of extra set of tires and rims. I will give it a try this winter. I know LOL.

Looks good Bryce. It's a great lives rule to have a place for everything and have everything in its place. I don't follow it a lot of the time. I'm just saying it's a great rule.

UPDATE! Lowell at Wheel Horse Parts and More has been able to source new Acceleration Valve Springs for Sundstrand Hydrogear transmissions and has priced them very reasonably. Most likely the axle bearings are worn and allowing the axle to wobble. The seal can't seal when the axle is moving laterally. The bearings in those old trannys are bronze bushings. There should be no movement up down left or right, only a little in and out.

Thought I recognized that picture...it is from my archives. Here is another pic from my 'stash' that may help in taking the E-PTO apart to replace the bearings. The smaller Field Bearing is #6204-2RSR. I have a good used larger bearing # 166-0144 shown here. That 166-0144 bearing new is about $75 bux.... I can send you my good used bearing for $50...shipped. It has no drag and no wobble...wouldn't know it from new.

Old and young alike love to see a Maytag in operation. Oftentimes the adults are more in a state of shock then the kids are hahaha. Everywhere I bring mine it's a hit. Mine just happens to have a kind spirit and always runs perfectly. Luck I guess. Desjardins was a Canadian engine. So I doubt many, if at all, made it to Texas.

It's either a Chore Boy Aircooled, or a Busy Boy. About the only difference that can explain that is the igniter trip. They are otherwise the same engine. I have an A/C Chore Boy 1.5 myself. Not too common for sure. ..Today? Put the old tub cart vacuum to work!
