Picked up two 953 tractors from T-Mo last week got both of them running & driving I'm keeping this one and a friend of mine is getting the other one. Thanks Terry P.S. I will be looking for a PP-10HD ground breaking plow in the future.

the biggest mistake is most people go way over board thinking they have to buy every single garden tractor under a 100 bucks with the mindset they are going to restore them all. soon they have a yard full junk. you can't save them all!

Found a guy selling a tiller on FB marketplace . Went to his place to pick it up, and found that he had the C160 that the tiller came off of. Long story short, both of them came home with me. Cleaned the points, put a battery on it and it started up and idled. Need to clean the carb, as it won't take throttle. Runs good otherwise with no smoke. Hydro unit has obvious leaks but it moved the tractor back and forth in my bed. The hydraulic lift for the tiller works well. It has one ag tire on a factory wheel and a turf tire on another, much wider than stock wheel. Turf tire is trash, ag is good. Front tires leak but are serviceable. One hub is loose so I'll have to look into how bad the axle is. Forgot to snap a picture of the tiller, but it is in great shape and still has paint on the tines. I don't believe it was used much.

Buy a trailer - I've seen too many "accidents" happen when people try loading onto a pickup truck bed.

I don't know what it is....... I just can't help myself..... God bless my wife. Plus 3 sets of front and rear tires on rims and two large totes full of parts Wooooooooooo hooooooooooooo.

Out of curiosity, is my RJ here considered a 1959 made RJ58 or an RJ59? I ask because the tag says RJ58 but the transmission casting date is 1959.

Meet my new, #40 tractor in my collection...my first off branded tractor...an early production College Park (COPAR) Panzer. Not their first year of production, a '54 Model A, but pretty gosh darn close to it. I've read that less than 300 first year, documented model A's were ever produced, and only a handful of legitimate survivors out there being known to still exist. To my mind, it reads that the model A's were the early prototypes that led to the T-100's going into full production in '55...the T being Tricycle front steering. I won't bore you with all the crazy Panzer nerding I've already started to do here...I'll just say that it's a really cool old tractor, powered by a 9HP Briggs that really gets down the road you start moving the belt around on the flywheel. Has rear wheel turning brakes (which make it pivot on a dime) on a narrowed Chrysler 8-3/4" rear end. Really had a blast on the first day with it here yesterday. Was a true barn find, that seems to have been very well loved by it's PO who recently passed. May he RIP. I'll leave you with a couple quick first day Panzer ride videos we did here around the house yesterday.

I stopped at 8 or is it 9?My wife says its a collection and I say no,9 is an assortment,10 is a collection. She went along with that so I had to own up to a chainsaw collection.

I’m sure I could soak that up into the cost of all new house mechanicals, right? Mrs. Pullstart even agreed that if it wasn’t for our recent setbacks, she’d be telling me to get there ASAP!

Smokin deal... I was very tempted. Glad to see they went to a good home. I had the pleasure of workin a couple this weekend and they are a bit different than what I am used to wrenching on but still fairly simple. This one had the tank removed due to a PO diesel repo and will get a donor tank from a parts 953 but it appears the tranny has to come out to install it. In went a 241 from a parts 1077 and with a temp tank got some seat time!

I started with the chassis of the 502 I bought from BUZZ at the big show. Ripped it down to the bare frame last Sunday and now this Sunday it’s a completed tractor. Thanks to buzz for the frame . Most important piece to this project....

Well.... good news! The posting has been deleted! Now, who picked it up?

Willpower - you hit it on the head. These things are an addiction just like anything else that gives us that feel good feeling. If collecting horses is the worst I do, then I figure I’m doing pretty good.

This may be a tad off topic.... I’m not sure. I made sure that with the proper adapter, the genny could power the camper with full blast A/C! Now we can tractor show with or without hook ups! Comon’ Portage, WI!

It is a 4 speed transmission. #5080 was on the 1971 Work Horse 800 & the 1974 B-80 The #5084 was on the 1974/5 B-80 4 speeds. The #5085 on the 1972 Commando 800 and the 1973 8 horse 4 speed. I can tell you that there is basically no difference between the 3 transmissions. You would have to look at the break down of parts to find the different parts numbers. It could be axle length, maybe one has a dip stick...that kind of thing. The main difference between the 3 speed and the 4 speed transmissions...the brake shaft is on the mushroom gear in the 3 speeds and on the cluster gear shaft on the 4 speeds.

had a little extra time this morning, pulled out the porter cable and took it for a drive around the property. such a neat little round hood tractor, easy to drive the steering on these is very light you can steer it with 1 finger. this machine I redid a few years ago.

Well everyone I completed my daughters Wheelhorse today. She calls it her pink pony which I think it suits this little 702 My son on my lap we drove it around the block and back. He loves to steer so he’s hooked. We have our closest steam and tractor show coming up on the July 12/13/14 weekend so my daughter will be getting plenty of seat time. The only problem I have encountered on this one so far was I need one size smaller belt(slipping) and that the brand new ignition switch I bought at the big show is backwards....on is off and off is on. I wired it exactly as the wiring diagram shows in my 702 owners manual. But oh well it starts and shuts off and drives so it’s a win....hope everyone likes the pictures. There will be a custom pink and purple 702 decals go on it once the gentleman from redo your horse and I come together on the colours....enjoyed every second restoring it cant seem to upload pictures!!!

Hey everyone, I have here a 85 417A I believe. My plan is to use our 416H for winter use and get the 417A running (got the new stator) and use it for mowing duty on my small .5 acre lot. Dang 3 kids and wife get in the way of my progress of this. Cory

Dad and I rebuilt it all back in 92-93, engine was blown, years of neglect and poor storage; we put on a brand new 42" recycler deck, took it down to the bare chassis, sandblasted most of it, PPG DBC r4 base with 2042 clear; been using it ever since up until this year. This is the one I never sell; I grew up on a 61 701, dad sold that one and bought a 78 c140 in 1981 and sold the 78 in 1992 when he took a new one for himself. This is the tractor he traded in on our c140.

Gave my C120 a much needed bath; I think it looks pretty good for a 26 yr old redo

So about a year ago jimt1971 started talking with Pilgrim regarding a worker 420LSE. Long story short the neighbor or friend (I can't remember which) purchased the tractor to use. We werr okay with this as we were told that if the person who got it didn't like it, he might get it back. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, Jimt1971 got word that pilgrim got the tractor back and wanted to see if he was still interested in purchasing it. The price was agreed to, and we hoped that Pilgrim could make it to the WHCC show😥 unfortunately he was not able to make it, sooo we agreed to go out to his place to pick it up. We left at 5:30am, and started our 12 hour road trip...got to Pilgrims, and got to spend a small amount of time with him and his wife before having to head back home. I have to say that Pilgrim and his wife are two of the most genuine people I have had the pleasure of meeting. They were amazingly sweet, and a pleasure to do business with. Today we got to take a better look at the tractor, and we plan on restoring it back to its former glory. The one thing thatvwill remain is the decal from the mower shop that it came from to preserve its history!! Without further adeau, here are the pics

I feel the same way... There's a whole lot worse I could be doing. And to be fair, I had been looking for a tiller since I didn't have any attachments other than a mower deck.. I just figured if the hydro unit turned out to be bad, I could use the engine off of it on my ditch witch that has a dead K321. For the price it was a no brainer.

I'm not going to say you made the wrong decision, not going to get that. But maybe you need a bigger fire? That way you can put more irons in it? Nope. No. You do not need that. You got enough going on already. Hahahahahahahaha

Update. Got the Sonotubes in and filled. Have to wait for the concrete to dry before attaching the beams

Unless I find a leak, the plumbing is complete! I’ll wait for a new day to check for leaks, then wire everything up. I wish I had picked up a few more unions and made room for a couple shut off valves but I’ll cross that bridge if I ever need to change something. As I do more projects in the house, I’ll keep replacing the CPVC with more copper.

Nice tractor, I can’t wait to see your daughter cruising it at a show some day! I met your wife and kids at the show, they sure do like to “build” stuff with all the spare parts! I put off becoming a supporting member for quite some time for one reason or another. Now that I took the step to support the forum, I understand the importance of keeping this realm of knowledge available to people who may never have turned a wrench but found this “cool old tractor” and needed some info to keep it going. Please consider the benefits to you and so many other people who browse looking for that invaluable information.... and as a bonus we’ll be able to follow along on your projects!

'fraid not Richard .. PO thing. It's not the best tho for helping getting on the tractor and overall use. Flexes too much. Three or four spokes would have been better.

Thanks, Rick, for rescuing these from me - I just didn't have time to mess with them, and I was almost 100% sure both would start and run (the one Rick kept I had running and driving, it acted like the fuel pump quit on me). Someday I hope to find another 953 or 1054 that doesn't need any, and I mean, any work to get going. But, that will be some time down the road when I'm retired and really have more time. For now, I'm pleased that these two went to really good homes. I know Rick from a couple of plow days, and I've seen his plow tractor, so I know he will take good care of the one he kept. And the other one went to an avid Wheel Horse collector, so I know it will be well taken care of also. BTW, Rick, I have a 10 inch Brinly, I don't know what model it is, but I've used it a few times on plow days. I might keep it for the Cub Cadet 100, or I might part with it. Who knows.

Yes, but only the stuff forced on us in the form of adulterated fuel. Using the pure stuff as fuel by your own choice is a fun and interesting activity.

Good Morning Thanks for all the welcomes The question was asked [ do I still have the RJ35 or the 553 ] the answer is no. I sold the 553 and parted out the RJ35 back in the late 70's. Yes, that was a dumb decision. I did include some pics of my still used C-81-8 with a sears sickle bar mower attached. I use this tractor-mower to mow around my low evergreen trees. The tractor has an earlier model Wheel Horse outer clutch pulley which is smaller in diameter. The original C-81-8 outer clutch pulley is bigger in diameter and made the mower run faster per same engine rpm. Putting the smaller pulley on the engine helped a lot. The sickle mower still runs a little to fast rpm wise for the engine speed, but is a whole lot better and usable. I added the hood ornament because I think all wheel Horses should have one. Wheel Horse Company made a bad decision when they eliminated the hood ornament to cut cost in my opinion.

I have used PEX, but I prefer copper when I can. But chasing around corners in a tight crawl space.... PEX! I used to train plumbers on commercial water heater repair. One group from FL one time told me they had two full work vans on a job site and one broke down. They made a simple loop with two full sticks of 1/2” pex and some elbows and short links, then towed the van across town back to the shop!

This ought to make loaing tractors a lot easer. Hydrolic trailer.

It’s a preference thing. I like the looks, quality... maybe I’m just crazy

When I built our home I used PEX for the supply lines, much easier to use and cost much less.

Extra long aluminum ramps and a come along. Given the consideration of "more money than time" a Tommy gate would be an excellent solution for many other things as well.

Update: The belt was below the side panel/guard. No problems with transmission. I have mowed two times a week the past 6 weeks and runs strong. I may have been very sensitive to sounds from the transmission. No grinding noise. I am thankful to those of you who responded and for the information on this site, including videos from Stevasauras that allowed me the confidence and ability to take apart the transmission/replace necessary bearings and thoroughly clean it.

1968's were never much into any kind of gauges But...They did have a CIGAR LIGHTER I always thought that as a minimum they should have a voltmeter. I rebuilt a 1970 Charger and added a run of the mill voltmeter and used the supplied mounting bracket under the dash. It worked but looked kinda "odd" I have a 69 Charger that the PO mounted a three guage set below the dashthat lookes even "odder" I had thought about mounting a 2" gage on the panel below the dash and there even seemed to be a "pilot hole" predrilled. But the rectifier was in the way I was looking at Amazon one afternoon and came across a voltmeter made for motorcycles that was digital and fit in a 1 1/2" hole. Well for 10 bucks I'll try anything. The tractor isn't wired yet and the picture is a little fuzzy......but it's in there

They hang over the lip on the back of the center steel brace. Also I have three different tines on my cultivator one large Danish tine in middle, two smaller Danish tines on side and regular Wheel Horse shovel tines on other spots. Nine tines in all and it does the job.

Well I might not be fast.... at much... but I feel like I’m getting somewhere. I spent a few hours changing an alternator on a mini van today and cooling off in the pool, but one side arm is soldered and the other is pre-built.
