I picked up a few of my old W/H's last night. an early 520 no motor, and a nice 11hp workhorse, and a 60 in. deck that is in nice condition.

the Lettering is not any font type that I could find so I traced and cleaned it by hand in my illustration software from an OEM decal that I scanned years ago. I will send you an EPS file of it if you PM me your email address. Sounds like a great project. Post pics when done. Terry

I took advantage of the warm weather and did a little painting this weekend. I blasted the tool box and fenders and primed them. And I also got a few tins, transmission and frame painted. After they cure a few days I will start final assembly.

so it was real nice up here today also, and the driveway had some ice that needed chewed up so it will mely faster,so I got the new to me(6 months ago)c160 8 speed out and put the new hitch to use, this is my homemade ripper and lift that I built years ago, this is why I like to have a reciver on all my tractors, you can put anything on the back, this setup works with my bottom plow too,i gave the 160 a treat and blasted and painted the rims, and put a new set of chains, they are only 4 link but they have the v bar and are very aggressive and she is almost unstoppable,i love all my tractors but this machine is so tight and runs so good I cant believe someone painted her black,oh well she don't look too bad

I'm no expert but it looks like a 701 to me. No slats in front hood and those footrest are unique to that year.

I am with squonk on this one. In the light powdery stuff my single will go between 25' and 35' with no wind assist. In wet heavy snow non of them are worth a darn in my opinion. I have a single short chute, then got a 2 stage. I also bought a single tall chute. It did almost as good as the 2 stage. So I got rid of that monster 2 stage. To me not enough difference between the single tall chute and the 2 to warrant having that heavy cumbersome thing in the way. I suppose the 2 stage has its place if you get 4 feet at a time with 6 ft drifts. If it's that bad I have a FEL. More than likely you will find me staying in side drinking some turbo charged hot chocolate watching all the young pups removing snow.

The way I see it we are all trying to do our daily chores and depend on equipment made as far back as the 60's. Your D is probably a 70's vintage machine making it close to 40 years old. I don't know your budget....but I feel that a second machine (Wheel Horse of course) is a necessity because stuff happens and sometimes even our favorite brand of tractor craps out (like yours has). I have two machines set up for winter duty, my primary plow tractor and a backup. Get yourself a 300 or 400 series machine...much newer than your D series and it should be way more dependable. Then you can get the D straightened out while mowing with the spare tractor. Mike.....

There's a new ultra violet activated glue they claim will fix anything! I think you could present them with a good test! "Bondic, Repair Anything!" And I just bought a big roll of Gorilla Tape that I'm dying to try on something!

Mike, you won't find them words in any The Saurus...John made them up from an old dialect that was spoken in Illinois well south of Springfield.

AMC Rules, surgery went good. I went back to work this past monday. I didnt cut the rims yet, the rollers that I crushed my fingers in are down due to safety upgrades. As soon as they are up and running I can roll the strips to size then cut the rims and get them back together. Thanks for asking.

Certainly looks like a good deal from the pic, as has already been mentioned the Coulter wheel is missing; however, you may want to inquire if it is included. I received a 10" Brinly plow free, with the purchase of a Wheel Horse tractor, the Coulter disc was included, but not attached due to a missing "U" bolt. If the Coulter disc, Coulter standard, "U" bolt, disc hubs and ect. are not included you can still order anything you need from Brinly. Here are pics of my 10" with the disc attached.

My favorite old photo is of my brother David and I in 1961 on our dad's first Wheel Horse tractor -a 1958 RJ ! And Thanks Neil for posting the old photos from the Humprey's Wheel Horse store in Greencastle, Indiana. I know Phil Humphrey and actaully went with him to the Portland, Indiana Tri-State Engine Association swap meet this past Fall. The are still in business as Humprey's Outdoor Power ( http://www.humphreysoutdoorpower.com/ ). I buy my Wheel Horse/Toro parts there that I can still get! They are celebrating there 50th Anninversary this year! This is another Vintage Photo from 1962 with my brother David, sisters Cindy and Connie and me on our dad's 1958 Wheel Horse Tractor! We later had a Covered Wagon we pulled with this horse but I can not find photos of that setup !

Well I figured out the value of a snow blower to me. $450. I got a really nice tall chute blower on Thursday. Many thanks to TheRoundHousernr for sending me a link for a very clean unit for sale near him. Here are a few photos. I got it mounted today, slowly working around a giant mud mess in my shed. Some day I'm going to build a garage, but for now, I'm celebrating a new blower. Of course it's 50-degrees today, but I know we'll get more snow some day and this baby is going to chuck it as far as I want! Thanks everyone for the input and for steering me away from that other unit. This unit is so clean there are only a couple places where the paint has worn off due to use. The skid plates still have paint on the bottom! I do have a couple questions but I'll start a new thread for specific questions about this blower. Again, thanks to all the great input.

I long for the teenage days when micrometers were costly and B&S and Tecumseh engines always went together and ran perfectly fine with Dad's old tools. Today, I can afford micrometers, and they're even cheap and accurate. Measured the piston from the kit on eBay and measured my old carbon cut piston and the new is .010 smaller! The bore and original piston meet original specs, by golly! Letter off to the supplier to convince them my engine is not already 010. Oh, for the days of ignorance. She'd be back together, smoking and perhaps slapping nicely...

I mentioned in an earlier post that I was having an issue keeping the front end of my Suburban on the ground. I don't really want to fill the front tires with fluid like the factory did so I decided to try lowering the front end instead. I'm happy with how my drop spindles turned out. It was a lot more time consuming than I expected. Then again I took my time in hopes to get them right the first time. The factory used a snap ring to hold the wheel on, I choose to use a bolt in the end of the axle like the later models used. I was going to just use a bolt for the king pin but I didn't like the way it looked, so I made the king pins out of left over stock from making my axles. I had to through some wheels on to check out the stance. Even if the drop axles don't help keep the front end on the ground, the lower front hot rod look was worth the work. Definite cool factor!

What did the Swedes ever do to you?
  31. 2 points
Nah - original piston with the usual carbon streaking meets manual's specs at 3.363. Bore measures a stock 3.374. The new is 3.348. Almost tempted to use the original but the top ring is so exposed. We'll see what the supplier says. Yeah, I dropped it all and laughed. I'm at the age where these kind of things are simply funny. If his quality is this bad, an .010 over would almost make it stock. No eBay complaints so I guess no one's measuring or I'm just, as usual, the lucky one.
  32. 2 points
LOL. Do you think I didn’t tried that out? I’m not Swedish, I’m Norwegian
  33. 2 points
I must be confused or reading it wrong, (happens to me), If your piston and bore are standard, how could a new piston be .010 smaller than standard, wouldn't it be bigger, if it was smaller that doesn't even make sense, that means you would need a .020 over to fit standard by their measurements? Have things gone this bad?

WHEEL HORSE Is that what you're looking for. I used Times New Roman and bold type set. It's in the font name folder above.

Hello all. Well i thought i had posted an update of my fuel system but obviously not so you've been left a bit in the dark about progress. I have got pictures of the fuel system but that was a while ago and cant seem to find them but, It works great, it runs perfectly and i am happy with that. then i have had a couple of weeks with priming being done when i can. and then today i have sanded down my chassis to it being smooth and ready for paint with very fine wet and dry (not on the bottom though etc wanted to keep the paint really quite thick). i have also ordered a key switch to replace my flip ignition switch. today i also painted the bottom of my chassis only in black to seal it nicely, layered it on quite thick with plenty of layers. it looks great and should be good. just got to buy my paint and then paint my chassis properly. stage one stage 2 and this is as i was finishing off my can of paint! i used a pretty much whole can. i will get pictures of when its dry. if needed i will apply more paint james

shallowwatersailor, I could buy rims but, I'm mainly doing it to see if I can do it. I would like to put 10.5 wide tires on my tractor and use wider rims to do it. My friend has the 10.5" tires on his 7" rims and they hold fine. I like the the tire to fit the rim right.

Mike, the area of origin is actually a bit further North nearer to Chica(w)go. It is commonly referred to as Inat Landet Norra that takes place near Irving Park, Lincoln, and Damen, part of the Northern Cities Vowel Shift.

Thanks for the dimensions Paul. I didn't have 1" wide either, so I made one out of 3/4" and it worked fine, but probably won't last as long as the 1". But while making this, my thought was ...why not use a simple wavy washer for a spring? Road trip to ACE.

I did take a couple pics yesterday. And yes I did have to cut the hood for the exhaust to fit. I wanted to make just a circle cutout for the look but I had nothing to do so. Also I will be busting ass this week to get her running and get a video up somehow!

I got the transmission put back together, the seat back support bracket made. The hood is almost ready for paint and the seat back support needs a little more work before paint. The only parts used of the original transmission was the axles, 1 gear, and the shifter rails. My son had a transmission torn apart that had longer axles and a different drive gear.
