11 pointsIts a sad day again. But many will never know about Dec. 7th, in years to come. As I layed around today feeling like crap. Snoozing on and off and flipping through the channels. Not ONE WORD did I hear. And then I remembered, didnt the government make notice we wouldnt have anything said about this day any more? Not 100 percent sure, but I believe thats so. Regardless, I will be one never to forget. As my father was there that day. He joined the Navy in the summer of 41, a seventeen year old kid from Elizabeth, nj. No work, no jobs, so thats what pop did. Little did he knowcwhat was to follow. As he said to me and my brother many times over the years. How lucky he thought he was. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Aboard the battleship the USS Pennsylvania, gunners mate, turret 2. The main guns on the fore of the ship. well pop, I will never forget, and I will carry the banner of rememberence for you and your shipmates till I am no more. so to you dad, and all the old time sailors and servicemen that were there that day. I salute you all. You are part of americas greatest generation.

10 pointsPick I'd up a nice b100 with a deck that's nice and quite when engaged. Deck came with all the guards and is nice and solid. Front spinal shows no sign of cracks. Hydro is nice and strong, carb needs to be cleaned, but does run with no smoke. It also has a rear tach-a-matic. Battery is good and all 4 tires are in good shape. Best of all are the hubcaps! I bought this just for the hubcaps, and the price was about right for just the hubcaps!! The rest is a bonus!!! It needs a little TLC for sure, but should make a nice little mower for my dads place, it should be a good repacment for his tired c81. Hubcaps are going on the 875.

8 pointsInspired by bmsgaffer's post with him and his son I grabbed the camera as me and the boy ran out the door for a quick break in ride on the almost complete 856. I say almost because she still is a bit naked without her hood. This is 856 is my only wheel horse and it fell into my lap a few years back. She was stripped down and in between that and how she sits now has been a solid few years or more. I picked at it while buying our first house and also having our son 1-1/2 years ago. Its been a long slow project but im happy with the results and few modifications i made to make it my own. The 856 is my only tractor and mostly will serve the duty of dragging a trailer around and making runs aout back to the pile with lawn debris, etc and plowing/blowing when the snow flys. Here in CT you never know if your going to get inches or feet in a winter. I have mower deck but don't intend to mow with it. The K181S was rebuilt and so far hasn't skipped a beat. Probably ready for 1st oil change in a few more hours of run time. Between plowing with it last storm and the fun joy rides ive taken I would like to think i did everything right. Probably need to tweek the high and low rpms alittle bit but for no shes a runner and i haven't been pushing her to long. What my son doesn't know yet is that this will be his tractor someday. As long as im still on this earth this 856 isn't leaving my eyes and the both of us will build years worth of memories with it. Like i said this horse fell in my lap and the more i think of it the more im wondering if it was some "meant to be" thing. My son loves tractors so much its silly. They are his favorite thing. On a side note i appreciate all the help from members here that got me to getting the tractor to this point. I know i had a few hang ups along the way.

4 pointsThanks to everyone who came, it was a great time. Did any of you guys take pics? Someone here was nice enough to send a box of stuff to decorate with and a few things to give away. Scot donated ornaments for everyone, Janice makes great deviled eggs, and Blue cooks up some of the best melt in your mouth BBQ I've had in my life. We all decided we all hate to have our pics taken too. Who is who, every pic will be left to right. Blue, Nappypappy (Karl), lovely wife Janice - Janice, Scot (plasma cutter guy), (KyBill) Bill - Scot's lovely wife Laura - Cassie (Todd's lovely wife) + Todd (Redbone) Janice + Todd - Karl + Janice - Me + Blue - Karl riding his dream mower - Karl, Bill, me - Todd + me -

3 pointsmy Snow Plow has been missing the angle lever since I got it ...NOT COOL! I'm not about to pony up the cash for a new one from Toro, and Honestly Geno just wants far too much for the NOS one he has So I made my own ... Nothing Spectacular but thought I'd share so others can duplicate... Simple stock steel from TSC a Vice and my Jewlers Torch. Oh and a Hammer and Adjustable Wrench (to aid in bending and squaring) Still have the squeeze lever to weld up and mount then she'll be all ready for paint.

3 pointsI picked this up thought this was pretty awsome. Has a k181 8 hp kohler with a. Fully rebuilt hydro rear. Has safetys and all. It has alot of time and thought put into it. hundreds of hours every pivot point has grease fittings etc. It is dump from the seat and has a full exhaust to the rear of the bed. Detailed pics to follow.

3 pointsI picked up this 1979 C-141 from the show in Kent back in September. Before I had even left the show I had recouped the money I paid for it plus made $20 by selling the engine which was blown and the seat which was trashed. I dropped in an 8hp pull start Kohler. Had to rebuild the motion control mechanism as it was frozen up and the prior owner had broken the lever off. I ordered a few new pieces from Toro and a used lever from Ebay. Now the motion control works perfectly and the brake pedal moves it to neutral like it should. I wasn't sure of the status of the hydro itself but the guy I got it from said he had owned it for years and it worked fine. When I got it home I pull the transmission dipstick out and the fluid looked like it was just changed with no water present. After putting the 8hp in and rebuilding the motion control I put a temporary gas tank on and fired it up. The tractor drives great and the hydro seems to work fine. The seat thats on it I had laying around. Don't know what I'm gonna do with this thing. I have all the covers and other parts to make it complete. Who knows! Maybe i'll play mad scientist and see what I can come up with! Here is a link to a video of it: http://vid298.photobucket.com/albums/mm279/fireman14344/1979%20C-141/1979%20C-141_zpswsebs1kh.mp4

3 pointsModifying a Wheel Horse!!! How could you think of such a thing? Strangely despite my history of building non standard machines there are some I wouldn't/couldn't bring myself to chop about, my Gt-14 being one of them.. Ok, it's got a bigger engine, roll bar, front weight/battery box added but it's all bolt on stuff with no extra holes drilled so it could be put back to stock very easily..
-
3 pointsThose who couldn't make it ... you were missed! We had a great time!! Only grabbed a few pictures ... much more comfy behind the camera and working the BBQ Pit (NOT a grill - yes there is a difference) than getting pics taken ... sorry!

3 pointsDon't want to start a discussion of governmental corruption, so I'll just say I'm no longer in favor of financially supporting the PA Fish or Game Commissions.

2 pointsHello to all! im south of Chicago and just picked up my first wheel horse tractor and attachments locally via craigslist. the 417 A came with a snowblower and I also grabbed the 36 tiller. I really don't know much about this stuff but my buddy in iowa said get it before its gone! the tractor has 277 hours on it and the snowblower looks like it has never had snow through it after being installed. the 36 roto tiller was new in the box with all mounting hardware/belts.my goal will be to get the tiller set up for spring since im big into gardening. happy holidays

2 pointsMy Grandpa was there, and while Not stationed on the USS Arizona, he was on Board during the attack. I am proud to say that I have his medals, and commendations. I too am sad that they are not continuing the Pearl Harbor Ceremony... Several times today, I took time to say thank you to my grandpa, I know he's looking down and hopefully he's proud of what he see's , I certainly am proud to say he was my Grandpa!
-
2 pointsYeah unfortunately I have a habit of never leaving things well enough! I've the next 4 cold months to figure it out.

2 pointsCBS Sunday Morning did a short piece this morning on Pearl Harbor 73 years ago today; and NBC Nightly News had a piece on the USS Colorado (BB-45) that missed Pearl Harbor but saw the most days in action of the Battleships. I am currently reading a book on the brave USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) that was lost in Leyte Gulf. It's a good read, Glenn. My dad was a "grunt" in the European Theater during WWII and made sure that my brother and I spent our duty on ships!

2 pointsCouldnt be better, I combed my hair in the shine on that rim. Wow. Glenn

2 pointsI hope Glen and Mrs. Wishing for a 416 feel better soon. The Rock and Rye really works. Steveasaurus started me on it November 2011, and to this day I have not had the flue since or missed a day of work in the Winter due to a cold. I was one of those people who got the flue or an awful bad cold every winter since I was a kid. And FYI I do not take a flue shot. I did once in Feburary of 2005 and two or three days later got the flue that put me out of work for two weeks. R&R cost $12.25 per fifth here in NC. Well worth it for me so far. Just saying this in hopes it will work for someone else here at RS. Thank you Steve!

2 pointsi have not used the tri ribs so i can't comment on them but as far as the deestones, i would mount the deestone 10.50 on the 7" rims not the 8.5 rims. i have nanco 23x10.5012 mounted on both 8.5 and 7" rims and prefer the way they look on the 7' rims. they actually measure 9.50 on the 7" rims and look good. i've been told that the nanco and the deestone are almost the same tire. i put chen sin 23x10.50x12 on 7" rims, and they actually balloon out, should have put them on 8.5" rims but don't look that bad. the set of nanco on the 8.5" rims and had to put tubes in them to get them to mount. 1 when first mounting and 1, 6 months later when it wouldn't stay inflated. here's the picture of the chen sin eric j

2 pointsI recently ran across a web site that has a lot of 2-5 minute videos of simple shop repair tips & tricks. It would be very good for a person that had "minumal" shop skills and those that are knowledgable. The fellow is an equipment maintenance manager at a golf course. I have watched most all of the videos and he is very good at this! See attached link. Enjoy http://www.turfnet.com/page/turfnet-tv.html/_/hector/?sort_col=record_updated&sort_order=desc&per_page=15&st=0

2 pointsI noticed this title under your video Rob.. ILLEGAL..12 Gauge (flame-throwers) Dragons Breath Rounds There was also a disclaimer in Craig's first video that they may be illegal, to check you local laws. Narrator also stated that he can' find them in Gun stores anymore. Not sure we should be posting this kind of stuff on here. And for the life of me, I still don't get how we made the leap from a race car restoration to guns and ammo.

2 pointsBill won the front grease cap set, He's a snappy dresser too. Blue won the key chain and weaseled out of the pic. Scot made enough ornaments that everyone got one. I want to see those things when you paint them up guys. They were just like this one just unpainted - I also forgot this Karl and Janice shot - I think most of us spent most of the day eating and hiding from the camera.
-
2 pointsinteresting story, the name on the side is that of the competition though, akro mills....... thanks for all the great input guys.... 1 pointA conventional mowers height can't be compared to a reel mowers height when cutting grass. You are going to get a "true" cut vs. a "tearing" of the grass. Not to mention the weight of the tractor is position differently when it comes to a conventional mower. So the tractor is compressing the grass before it is even cut. I am sure you know that. Your reels should be fairly heavy, maybe 60 to 80lbs each. I am guessing because of the age of the machine, I did not work on anything that was earlier than 1990. The one's we used weighed anywhere from 60 to 90lbs, Then the greens reels were much less in weight. Saying all to conclude, you may need to play with the height before you get the cut you want. We would set the heavy reels at 4" height for golf courses. Fairway height was 1" to the max I ever saw 2". and greens were 1/4" or less. Completely different type of reels for each application also. Way too much info, especially since it was just a simple question. But in reality, you have a very fine cutting machine, which will need fine-tuned for your specific lawn. Saying that 3 -3.5" will be fine without knowing much about the reels themselves, weight, and overall reel condition is a little bit of a est. on my part. There are so many different reels you can use to get really neat lawn appearances. Verti-cutters are really nice in the spring and fall to dethatch your lawn. If I had a large lawn plot 1 acer plus, I would have a reel mower. They require more upkeep, but they can't be beat for the cut they provide. Rob

1 pointI got it from my old now Toro dealer in Jersey, he's had it for over 30 years. It's the professional series with the cabide cutters and self sharpening 6 blade reels. Also got a reel mower blade sharpener that he used for many years in the shop but doesn't use anymore but it wouldn't fit on the trailer so I have to get it on the next trip. I can use it to sharpen my other reel mowers.
