found this 3 blocks from my house, $200, stuck a battery in it, and air in the tires, and my grandson drove it home. may be GT1600? everything is painted over, has gray where the paint is coming off. The old guy I got it from said he painted it after 9/11 Motor sounds good, otherwise it's kind of beat, most likely will part out. I have a 414-8 with a locked M14 motor, possible engine transplant? will it work thanks in advance for any advice Ed

I got a call last year to appraise a guy's Wheel Horse for him. I went and met him and he said his uncle had this 1963 WH he wanted appraised. I told him it wasn't a 1963 but a 1961. He didn't believe me since his uncle bought it new in 1963. It has a replacement hood on it and a later square seat. So it could have been fixed up at a dealer and sold in 1963. The tractor wasn't running at the time I met him and had no spark. He worked on it for days but couldn't get it to spark at all. I appraised it for him and he said right away, did you want to buy it? I said yes and tried not to act too excited! He wanted $300.00 for it and I said I would take it for that. He called me a few days later and said his uncle didn't want to sell it after all! Dang that sucks! I got a call from him the other day and he left a message to call him. I got all excited thinking he was finally ready to sell it to me! But when I called him back he said he wanted me to repair it! Bummer. So he dropped it off last week and my buddy and I wrenched on it for several hours fixing all of the non working parts and replacing all the wrong parts on it. Turns out the coil was wired wrong, both diodes were in upside down and blown out, the gas tank was gummed up with varnish and the carb needed rebuilt, the wiring was all rigged up and needed figured out! After we got all of that repaired, I put a shine on it and it cleaned up pretty nice! He probably won't recognize it without all that barn dust on it. So it has the original H55 Tecumseh on it and it runs like a champ now! It revs up pretty high and sounds great with the original muffler and long pipe set up. It's a nice tight motor and a great style of WH, one of my favorite models they made. I got the muffler guard put back on and the drive belt guard put back on too, not pictured though. So it is a nice factory looking unit now, I charged him $200 to do all of this work which was pretty cheap I thought. The right side of it is cleaned up and the left side was still dirty at the time of these pics. I haven't got the final pics of it yet.

You guys know it's only a matter of time before I have a complete shop, equipment included... Gonna get Terry to make a decal for it. Started on it yesterday, will wrap it up tomorrow. Think this will void my warranty?

i can't tell you how well they work with wet snow. i know my walk behind Ariens does ok with the snow, wet or powdery, just push it in and let it work. it has never really clogged that bad it didn't clear itself. but we are talking about a two stage compared with a single. when it gets all done and the snow starts flying, i will let you know....... weather was warmer today, so i pushed the 416 out and set up the blower as much as i could. still have a few things to finish off as well as the chain, but got the chute rotating nice on the rollers, i hate them by the way, but thats what this one has and i will just deal with it. adding the plastic base that was offered would probably help, but a small amount of lithium grease in all the right areas got it rotating smooth. i will hook up the cable when i get some more time. also had an old belt, so checked out the pulley alignment and operated the belt a few times turning the drive shaft. nice, quiet, smooth... more pics for the pic junkies......

cmon Craig, just admit that it was harder than you are letting on. you don't have to hand in your man card or anything........ you had to go and get a camera, walk up to the calendar pinned on the wall. then take a picture. just be honest and admit that it was a lot of effort. we won't think anything less of you. you probably even had a rest along the way, maybe cracked open a cold one , watched a little tv......

got the drive belt in the mail today, so went out and finished up everything on the blower. got the chain all set up, cut the length to 51 links like the original, lined up all the sprockets with shim washers and installed the chain. double checked all my bolts, installed cotter pins in all the areas i temporarily put hairpins and gave the whole blower a good spray down with quick wax. chain, idlers etc installed.... new belt fresh from ebay, this one was $20 in a sealed bag, not sure what they run at the dealer, probably more i would guess. chain guards on. all done.... came inside to get a bite to eat and after a while look out the back window to see Kent out on the back driveway with a shovel messing up all my test snow........ so i finished up my lunch and went out there, but not before putting my coat and slippers on. i thought to myself how dare he exert energy! i was wondering if he was feeling ok, working and all.......after all he is a teenager, what will he be up to next????? actually i already know the answer to that, having 4 others that have gone through those years already...... anyway, i said to him to stop that working thing immediately, he might break out in a sweat and I'm sure he didn't want that to happen. i did manage to get him to hold my phone for a few minutes while i tested out the blower on what was left on the driveway (which wasn't very much-darn kids......)

OK, take a deep breath and get out the lawn chair with your favorite cocktail. You deserve a nice long break. Outstanding Mate. All should know also, the calendars that Squonk will be taking orders for are professionally done...they are like if you bought them in a book store. :)

After yesterday's detail job, I did on the Tahoe, I thought I would share a tip I found out.... So the nice tan carpet, had some stains, from my wife. I asked where the carpet cleaner was. She says, all out.... So I start to pilfer through the cleaning materials, in the house to see what I may be able to conger up..... Head to the basement, nothing in the cleaning cabinet that catchers my attention.... I see it... SHOUT. This stuff is amazing on clothes, why not give it a try on carpet.....To make sure I don't "over do" it, I mix a bottle of 1/4 SHOUT, 3/4 water...... Here is what I did. I started with the back area. I vacuumed all the dirt first, then I used the solution, on any area that had a stain.... Soaked it real good.... Then I went to each passenger seat, did the same thing... Finally did the driver and front passenger area. This gave the rear time to settle into the stains.... Then it was time to find the carpet brush.... NO BRUSH...... I used the tip of the Shop vac to scrub first, then I turned on the vac.... All I can say is, I wish I would have taken photos of before and after.... That stuff works AMAZING! I think one could do a 50/50 mixture on really tough stains.... I did have a couple that I will try the 50/50 on. the 1/4 mixture did eliminate most of it, just needs some final "muscle" to lift the stain...... Thought the members could post what they have come up with as little detail tricks that maybe we have not thought of.... Rob

We are ready for snow in Central Pennsylvania. (Not Buffalo Snow)! I would like to say I won't need to even fire them up this year. I find the older I get, the less I deal with snow and cold weather!

Just finished getting ready with the 417's. Had to make a new frame for the snow cab and added some new weight to the blower tractor. Need to paint these in the spring.

Both tractors have Briggs 16's in them. The wheel weights are 75 lbs per tire. I just have to put the 2 link tire chains on each tractor.

I don't know... them damn sediment bowls do impart the vintage look... but, seem to always develop fuel leaks of some type. Nothing worse than a in the garage overnight...and being awakened by a shrieking Mrs. in the middle of the night... with the dreaded..."I smell gas" "What? Are you trying to kill us?"

The calendar will look just like you would have bought it in a store. They will be printed off of Martin's files and look exactly as they show up in the picture thread. Top quality ink and paper. Here are a couple of pics. I don't have a good way of taking decent pictures. This is last years calendar Thanks Craig, You got those in midway through my typing!

Won't the sediment bowl somewhat separate water from fuel?

It looks like the belt is riding low on the belt tensioner so that the bottom edge of the belt is rubbing at the edge of the tensioner. There could be a small nick or a rough rusty spot on the tensioner rubbing at the threads on the belt. There could also be a rough spot on one of the other pulleys as well, they appear a bit rusty. Smoothing them down might help the situation.

Hey Brian, don't throw out all your bent and broken parts. By the time you are finished you will have a complete set of patterns to build another one!!!!!!....... very nice work by the way, piece by piece, exactly how i would expect you to handle it. this old girl has been waiting for somebody like you to once again make her look and operate like she did a long time ago.

Mack - Nice Fleet! I'm still on the look for a FEL.... Sure would like to find one at a decent price.... Denny - those Illinois winters can be LONG and COLD! That should help keep that white stuff at bay! Ron - you also know those Illinois winters..... I like the pint job on the 857, well done! When I was grwoing up, my neighbor had a Case 446, I always did like it. He had the rear hitch also. Paul - glad to see you and Shaun survived..... Great seeing some action shots of that MONSTER chute in use! Martin - OUTSTANDING job on the rebuild. Can't wait to see some videos of that in use. Scott- I was wondering when the every popular "V" blade would appear! If you ever want a project for an "xi", let me know! That blade ia aswesom! Boo - NICE PHOTO! I think, you are probably the only member thus far, that has decided to als be part of the herd pic... We all know the horses don't move unless someone is setting in the seat! Looks like you have duals on the one with the FEL... Looks good. Rob

Hahah! No one on here was looking at the actual calendar part! Thank goodness for the missus' of the world! Honestly it could be from the year 1800 and id still hang it on the wall and change it each month, i don't ever write anything on it!

that seems to work for me too. just don't lean on them too hard, rock them back and forth a little.... don't get impatient and try and unwind them all the way in one go. once you get them to break free, go back in a little and back out again. at least with the kohler k series you aren't dealing with aluminum. now thats some fun times.......

My 857 does a great job if the snow isn't too deep. BUT,there are times when I need to get out the big gun, my 4016 Case w/ a 48" snowthrower. I find plowing is a lot more fun then blowing.

Just to update on the sad, rusted and neglected Workhorse I got for $50. I really just wanted the deck and the wide rear wheels. But you know how it goes... Here is how I got it. I changed out the trashed high back seat for the mid seat from Northern tool. The hydro lines adventure is in the past. I did end up also having to replace the hydro control valve that was leaking. got one from Squonk (Mike) at the big show. I will break apart the leaky one and learn how to rebuild it for the future. The muffler had a deflector that had rusted off. So I used VHT header primer ,header silver paint. I had used the black color on the 416 muffler and was impressed. I got the replacement deflector for $7, a new muffler would have been $80...ouch! I had some scrap mesh and cut it to size. and the final product! I removed all the decals using the behind the metal heat gun method and I got the complete Work Horse decal set from the Vinylguy (Terry). I used Ace high temp BBQ black spray paint. its a worker resto not a full rotisserie trailer queen! Thanks to Fun Egineer (Dave) for finding me a NOS hood and bringing to the big show. I used single stage PPG Shopline acrylic enamel paint with a 4 stage Accuspray turbine system (like a big vacuum cleaner). Thanks to multiple folks on painting questions..Bob Maynard, Squonk, Bowtie, Fun Engineer, etc my first time painting (and outside so), there were drips, overspray, orange peel, occ bug! but it's the first time and the PPG is the way to go, a bit pricey when you add in the cost of hardener and reducer but it lays out nice. Obvious that I couldnt match the paint of the NOS hood that while never used, looked to have been stored in a hot shed as the decals had shrunk leaving a stickey glue edge. I can't resolve myself to sand and spray it to match the other metal since it is too nice, so I did get another hood all sprayed with new paint. I still need to paint or powder coat the original rims. I just put on the wheels off the B-80 for now. I will not use the original style front sorta rib tires and will just use turf tires and I added LED tail lights instead of the reflectors. here it is with the NOS hood for now and needs the decals put on.
