6 pointsalright, this is going to be a learning curve for me, but I'm going to stick my neck out and have a go doing the calendar this year.

5 points(Edit) Correction. the tractor shown here has the Sundstrand tranny linkage - tho the Eaton is virtually identical. (I had just finished work on an Eaton and didnt shift brain gears) This is yet another foot pedal mod, but its for a "C" which I haven't seen one for this linkage (might've missed one) Really was surprisingly simple. Used pieces laying around the shop, a mig welder and a gas welding rig (to heat and bend) and a fair bit of head scratching to figure the necessary bends...probably got 5-6 hrs in it. I think one thing that made it simpler was being able to utilize the already existing 3/4" pedal rod as a mount for the new one, and the fact that from there was a straight shot from the hand lever to where the pedal support was. Used a short piece of 3/4" id pipe as the pivoting starting point. Had a brake rod off a dead chassis and fed it through for a reference point and with a couple pieces of 3/16" steel strap I started experimental bends. Then had to figure how to attach the rod to the hand control - didnt want to do any welding here - so came up with a 'U' bolt gizmo to mount a piece of angle to it that would pin the new rod to the hand control without altering it any. Then had to make up a pedal and mount it so that the motion with the foot would feel comfortable and still move the lever through the range from fwd to rev -- this was really the part that had me a bit concerned, once it was welded/mounted would be a pain to re-do. Another piece of scrap 1/8" plate from my pile, making a slight bend in it, I started again with 'test' fittings. This is what I ended up with. Thats a piece of mud flap I found on the side of the road some 15yrs ago, I have used that stuff sooo many times! I really liked the way that turned out. The tractor is down at the moment awaiting back ordered hyd fittings (those dang leaky hyd hoses) one reason I decided was a good time to do experiments I had in my "rountoit" list. Not having a seat mounted, I fabbed up a temporary one to sit and try the 'feel' of my new foot pedal - well, with just sitting there it feels pretty dang good!! Anxious to get a ride on it for real...

4 pointsI know this is probably not the right spot to post this but thought everyone checks this fourm first, so anyway Just wanted to say what a GREAT bunch of folks we have on this site. Have been looking for parts to fix up a c-160 auto and have had tons of help from everyone on this site. Dave, Bruce, Curtis, they know who they are... have gone out of their way to help me. It is very refreshing to know there are still people in this world that want to help a stranger and in turn make a new friend. TO EVERYONE HERE A BIG THANKS !!

4 pointsIn my humble opinion, asking what someone paid for something is like asking how much money you make a year. It is not good form. Also it is not a bad thing to teach younger members what is proper form. How else do you expect folks to learn, especially the younger ones.

4 pointsI've been here for 5 years now , I visit at least 5 or 6 times a day to catch up on all the latest updates , this year I traveled from UK to the big show & met some wonderful people that made me really welcome . this is a great place & I would be lost without it.

3 pointsI have decided to do the calendar this year. i have big shoes to fill looking through the past years efforts by Justin and others before him. what i need from you guys is pics of your horses as candidates to use for this year coming up. i want to see some more of the 'barn find' pics and the 'as found' ones i see on the forum from time to time. there have also been some great rebuilds and restores done in the past year as well. I've been thinking it might be nice to do two entirely different calendars this year. i don't want to make any more work for Mike (squonk) here on the forum with the ordering process, but i would be more than happy to produce two versions of the calendar if it is possible to keep it easy for all concerned regarding the printing etc. you guys on the forum would be the deciding factor here as far as making it easy to work out who wants which calendar. maybe some sort of ordering could be done in the forum store? is this even possible? just throwing out the idea here on the two different calendars, like i said i don't have a problem producing two different pdf files of 'old' and 'new'. regardless of whether we end up with one or two calendars, i need you guys to post up your pics here, the higher resolution shots, clear and easy to see are going to make it easier for me, i have limited editing skills and i want to make the final product as nice and professional looking as can be. the requirements are really no different as in past years. im excited to be involved in doing the calendar this year and depending on how things go, would consider doing it for the next few years. don't be reluctant to post up your tractor because you think its not good enough to be considered this year, you might just be surprised to see that a nice one might just take a back seat to a dusty barn find. we will give this 3 weeks, cut off would be 17th November. so don't put it off and risk missing out.....

3 pointsI picked up a package of Simplicity Walk Behind equipment. Included were a nicely restored cultivator, a Brinly plow, and what I believe to be a Sears or Bolens snowthrower for a ride-on tractor. What I mainly was after, besides the tractor that has a reverse gear, was the 20" Brush and Log Saw. The tractor is a 1962 Model W which was the last in the line of models. It is equipped with a Briggs Model 19 7 1/4 hp engine. At the end in 1968 for walk behinds, the horsepower was bumped to 8 hp. The saw is what intrigued me. I will never use it as it is extremely dangerous. The user was to stand directly in front and feed logs into it with the cradle. I have checked the teeth for cracks and have not found any - but there are stories of them flying off like a bullet! It certainly is a conversation piece. It was also intended to be used horizontally to cut through "weed trees" close to the ground.

3 pointsAJ and his friend Zack made to my place to day to pick up a 68" Lawn Ranger I picked up for him last weekend. It was a great day...they spent some time, helped me move some things around, took a couple of my horses for a ride...went to Cabelas" and then AJ bought me lunch. Thank you AJ & Zack...it was a banner day.

3 pointsUpdate for today. I was able to get the decking on and railing in place. I still need to through bolt them and install the top of the railing. I had a tough day with the siding (lots of recuts)... Woke up today really sore for sure !!

3 pointsSpeaking from experience you'll run out of traction before you run out of power. Hydros and 8 speeds alike will pull far more than they are capable of stopping. This one time when my brother in law and I were both drunk..... We hooked a 312-8 up to my Crew cab F-150 and pulled it quite some distance. Then in his infinite wisdom my bro OUT law put the truck in reverse. Bastard!!! It was good for some laughs.

3 pointsThe conversation has evolved because everyone is trying to tell you that information is irrelevant. Heres what you want to know: At the end of the three point hitch max lift capacity no more than 300lb, dead pulling 600lbs. (your tractor weights a little more than 600lbs, this is what I am basing all of the numbers on). And you will require weights in front to keep tractor down. Drawbar (not 3 point) the SAFETY numbers are the same as you are not supposed to tow more than 80% of vehicle weight, however many people here (myself included) have been able to tow many times more than that. I would say 1000lbs would be max. (Before people yell at me: thats pulling force, not weight of object towed, which can be many times more depending on friction forces of motion) For building materials figure a factor of safety of at least 5 times.

2 pointsI look on CL today during work...see a snowplow.....text the guy he says OK....text me at 4pm...I text him and he lives like 20 miles away....price is so low I was ashamed to offer any less. One of those, "be right there" deals....I get there (1/4 mile from the snowmobile guy Geno) and the guy is power washing it for me.... Then of course I ask....don't have that thing for the axle do you?????

I thought those refs were spot on and great...I saw the play...I saw the replay 35 times and that guy made a great catch...the ground can't cause a fumble!! And guess what...Penn St. people are working the clock. I am surprised it went to overtime also...but only because Ohio St. let them get close enough to kick that tying field goal. :ychain: BTW...I was able to catch those grenades this week and throw them into Happy Valley. I'm sorry mate... Illinois gets to go to Ohio St. this next week...I hope we take our own refs.

2 pointsGood point Steve. I forgot to mention the dipstick if it has one. The 2 quarts did take mine right to the full mark after running it for a bit. The last time this was brought up I mentioned that I filled the 5010 with 1 1/2 quarts but had second thoughts about it after we talked.

2 pointsI don't have as much experience with the 'horses as some, but I'm also in the "it will lose traction before it stalls" camp. I have actually done the test you are talking about as a test engineer on Cat dozers. It's harder to do you you might think. To keep from spinning the tracks they have track shoes welded face up on a bed plate so the grousers on the tractor lock with the ones on the bed plate. Then it pulls against a "immovable" object with a calibrated load link in between to measure the force. Even with this elaborate setup, test results vary quite a bit. With just a little slack in the cables the tractor can get a small amount of momentum and pull and hold a higher force than it can if the operator perfectly eases into it. Of course, that was all done on tractors with a torque converter in them, and the converter acts as the "fuse", stalling out (zero output RPM) when max pull is reached. We don't have converters on our little garden tractors, so traction is the "fuse". If you locked the wheels in, I'd bet you would either slip the belt, or break something. It's common to focus on drawbar force specs on any kind of tractor, but drawbar horsepower (force combined with speed) is a much more useful measure of tractor performance. Dave

Here's kinda how this came around and a whole days testing with a few breakages along the way but finally I think it's sorted, can't wait to get the front and rear 3 points working now.

Karl Storhy of Flat Rock, Indiana, Roger Parmley of Greencastle and Ruth and Lane Ralph were there along with several other Wheel Horse owners! Three of Karl's Special Wheel Horse "custom" projects: Roger Parmley on one of his very nice Wheel Horse tractors My wife Ruth after attending her first tractor show with me! I hope there are many more opportunities for her !
