Happens every day. Bummer you were slighted, but listing the guys address and phone number is not acceptable. (Seems we just went though this a week ago.) It's craigslist. It happens. Most of the time people sell to people who show up with cash immediately. Don't misinterpret that I think it's good and right with the world.... its just one of those sucky things that happen and you move on.... because on the other side of those deals is often a guy who's held it for a guy who says he's coming five or ten times and never shows up. Again... it's craigslist.

OK. This goes back to an earlier post where the author created a mod for his leaf problems on the Onan powered tractors. (His looked better than my mod). I had some time today to but some fittings together. Using a 12" HVAC duct flange and an elbow, I drilled out the rivets and resized the flange to fit around the flywheel intake of the P series Onan. No screws or nuts in the configuration or conflagration depending on how bad you'll laugh at these pictures. I didn't want anything that could work loose to fall back into the elbow and go through the cooling air intake. This is held together by rivets and the 4 standard bolts that hold the rubberized air intake cover. It is very lightweight! The flywheel screen is still covering the flywheel fins. The original screen cover is just sitting on top of the elbow. I have another screen cover that I intend on gutting to just give me the black ring that will cover the flange. I'll ruff this thing up, spray and wipe it with acetone then paint it flat black. Now don't laugh too hard though. Without anything covering the elbow end, I mulched all the leaves in the yard, and there were a bunch of them off my Maples, Hickory and Oaks. I dare say it worked great. The only debris that got sucked in was when I was against a tree or the house/garage walls where the leafs became more airborne. Very little was on the actual flywheel screen. This didn't impede the cooling air at all entering the engine tins in my opinion. It does stick out but not much further than my 42" deck on that side. And I didn't have to reach down and clear anything off the screen. Not once! I mulched this thing for almost two hours. If anyone has a torn or broken out Onan flywheel screen cover, (the part covering the elbow opening), let me know. I'll put a wanted in the classifieds. I really don't want to cut out even my spare cover if I don't have to. I know........... but try to picture it in flat black! I would only use it in the fall.

I could have said "nipples", but I was afraid you guys would go somewhere else. I was just trying to keep it out of the gutter and on a Red Neck tangent. Here Hold my beer and watch this.

I have sold a few things on Craigslist in the past. Have had folks call me and tell me they will buy and promise to be here tomorrow. Many times they do not show. Now I tell them to make sure they call before they come as I will sell it to the first person who shows up with the money. Most times a buyer who said he will buy it comes and then says it is not worth the asking price and wants me to lower it. That's his excuse to get out of the deal. Puts you in a bad position. Sort of like bargaining against yourself. Remember the longer you have an add up there, folks think you are desperate to sell and then you get the calls from the guys who want to buy at a steal price. So my advice is if the deal is really a bargain, find a way to get there immediately, or call before you leave if you must delay. If you are selling, make sure you tell the prospective purchaser that the first guy there with the money gets it.

I picked this 520 up via trade with Stevebo a few weeks ago. Its getting a real good cleanup, a repainting of the tins and some new decals. The first pic is the before pic.. Not too bad but there was a lot of paint peeling and rust coming up that is typical for the age. I got all the tins off and cleaned her up real good. Lotsa mud! I painted some of the tins last week and put them back on today along with new floor mats I cut out exact to the originals. Tomm. I will do the body work on the hood and repaint it and then some new decals and call it done.. I'm not too sure what I'll use the 520 for, snow pusher maybe.. The little guy snuck his way into the pic.. Today is the first time I've run him since the BIG SHOW. Fired on the first pull.

The wife and I took arandom day trip to southern Ohio on Saturday. We were just stopping at anything that caught our eye. A sign on the interstate said BIg Muskie Bucket. And don't get involved with people at your local store with questions. They typically have no clue. The third party logisitic service is reletively new and most stores have no clue. My local store manager had no idea until he called me the first time saying there was a tractor in his back room. Hahaha. Just fill out the online form and deal with the logistics people. All that stuff never happens in the Mid-West...it seems like it always happens out east. All of our kids are Campbells' kids....bright shinny faces and rosy cheeks...homework done...rooms cleaned...and asking, "do you need any help with anything Dad" ??

Went to Lowes for a new shower head yesterday and found they had this -20 deg. fluid on sale for $1.97 a Gallon. Don't know if the sale is nationwide or just local, but 2 bucks a gal is the best price I've seen for awhile. So I filled a couple tires today.

The bracket and plow should work with an extension of some sort. Personally I like the chain for snow (with a hydro lift) because otherwise you either end up lifting the tires off the ground (and loose all ability to steer) on a high spot or you miss a low spot. Some people add a little weight to the plow frame up front if its not digging enough for you. You probably could extend the frame of the plow. You need to extend the bar where it attaches at the back 4", and add a lift point 4" further back to account for the mounting point having been moved. Also the arm that pivots the plow will have a 4" 'offset' in it below the PTO so that it doesn't hit the PTO when angled left. Make sure that it is a 48" plow. The 42" isn't wide enough to clear the footprint of the 520 because of the wider tires and you wil just end up compacting the snow as you drive over it.

Got a little time on the 8 today. They sure do make a pile of parts. I found a lot of wear resulting in excessive clearance in the steering shaft bushings. The front end did not have a bolted on bearing although the holes are there. I'll need to find or make a bearing for the front. The rear end has a brass bushing in the block so I can replace that one. Hoping to get the frame and front end painted before it gets too cold so I can get her back to rolling.

Today we were able to get more of the decking on and hung the front gutter. Last pic shows me taking a little break and checking out the view...

The reason I say it's not the original engine is kohler did not start making K91's until 1959 I also had a early Rj58 with no trans marks with a K91 but I believe these are tractors with replacement engines and Mike your carb is done Brian

Here is mine...it is home made. I do not know who made it, my Dad got it from somewhere, but it works great. The back end gate is like on a couple of hooby-doobys at the top that let the gate open up when dumped.

I'd be there too but the distance problem always plagues me. I'm thinking you already have enough ideas to have a great one. I've only been to one M&G and that was Scotts in 2013. He sure knows how to do it right. I just happened to be in the area visiting family. He's about 6 hours from you so maybe you can make it sometime. You have the shop, the tractors, the space and there's quite a few within driving distance so I say go for it Geno. I'm sure it would be a success and I'd be waiting for pictures.

Lots of real good ideas guys thanks so much! I need to call a few people that have done this. I talked to dad the other day, he has a few hundred acres right across the street with lots of parking for trailers and all and said we could use his place, He's a man too.

Nice picture there..When I saw the topic heading "Last Mowing for Techy" I thought she threw a rod! That would stink and I'm glad it didn't. I hope I'm done cutting grass for the season myself but I can tell ya I never look forward to leaf cleanup... Back a few years ago I had a low hour SS 12 Sears Suburban with a 12 hp Techy on it. That was one of the best running engines I ever owned, if you didn't know it was a Techy you would have thought it was a Kohler..

First talk with a couple of others in your area and then set a DATE and PLACE to meet. A date when you feel most can meet with the least conflicts, and a place to works best for most (with close parking, and something to see, like a shop or tractors). Keep the first meet & greet real simple, allow people to bring their tractors if they want, and parts to sell, if they want, but then that requires more room and more parking area. Start advertising on this site early, specific date and directions, and keep us all posted on it's progress. Most Meet & Greets start out real small, maybe only half-dozen people and at one persons places to see their tractors, then each year they grow from there. Just takes one person to start the idea. But remember, "You Can't Please Everyone All The Time". After each Meet & Greet, you receive suggestions and ideas to consider, don't try and do too much yourself or you'll burn out. For a local Meet & Greet, a few hours is plenty, Food & drinks are extra work and cost, let people know to to bring their own, or if over a lunch, direct everyone to a local food place if near, or if like 1:00 to 5:00, food should not be expected. Toilets can be a problem but must be considered. If you charge fees, (even for food) then insurance becomes a factor. Keep them very simple, but just start. Only takes one person.

I really don't think there is anyone who has been doing these tractors who hasn't had the same thing happen. There are many people out there who have absolutely no honor or concience. As far as CL, I've always bought and sold quite a few tractors on there. As far as being robbed is concerned, that's why I started carrying every time I leave the house. I did sell a tractor to some guys from over by Detroit and when they got here the first thing I thought of was that a gun could come in handy. There were three really big guys and didn't seem all that friendly. Won't happen again!

I have been lucky as this hasn't happened to me. I try to avoid texts. Sometimes you can tell a lot about the seller by the sound of their voice.I can tell a shady dealer a mile away.I wouldn't have driven anywhere until I talked to the guy right before leaving.

I've had a hard time getting the brake drum off I use large chisel that fits in between the brake drum and the tranny case tight and work it around tapping it with a hammer be careful don't want to crack something

People are buying ZTR's and getting rid of their tractors. Along with that they think they can sell their 520 and get a premium price for it no matter what shape it's in. Others get one from a relative and wouldn't know how to work on it. Seems this generation can't fix anything their self. They are too busy with video games , Facebook, texting, Twitter and such. Seems like there have been a lot of them showing up on here lately with new owners though. I don't have much room to talk though since I've had 5 or 6 myself and I love the fact that those valve seats pop out because that's when you can get them at a reasonable price and have the best machine you can get without spending those BIG bucks. :laughing-rofl: :laughing-rofl:

Ed, I just saw this...Holy Cow!!! A lot like when I fell out of the tree a few years ago. You know it is going to take a long time to rehab once he gets to that point. My prayers with you and Mike as you go through this. The bad thing is, like me, it did not need to happen. GOD SPEED MATE.

Great lookin' 520 you picked up. How's the hydro.....I wish but, really don't do much more than plow snow, mow an acre, and pull a wagon (firewood). Often, used for grandchildrens' "rides." The refurb project was Pop-Pop and the grandsons. Was skeptical 'bout Onan but, the '90 520-8 I picked up a year ago is one fine Stallion!

How do you top your wife making you a snow cab?

Hi. I'm new to the forums. I own a D160 with 48" snowblower, 48" mower deck, 52" tiller and lawn sprayer. Recently my wife decided to build me a snow cab. (Yes, you read it right - my wife) I thought I'd share a couple of pictures here. She made the frame out of wood, which makes it very light and easily installed using only 4 bolts.

There's a pretty good concentration of members around you on the map Geno. I'm thinking you'd get a pretty good turn out.

Looking more like a WH dealership than a backyard shop! I'm jealous!
