8 points...a recent C/L score I made in an effort to be nice to my back from now on.
-
6 pointsSo I added it to my collection. Has a nice little K-90 on it. I also picked this little guy up
-
4 pointsI had a nice 48" sd deck on it but have the same deck on my 520H. I found this 42" rd deck yesterday just in time for fall. It will be used with a lawn sweeper to help save the old back while picking up leaves this year. This tractor is among my favorites in my collection and is a everyday worker around the house.

3 pointsFrom time to time we all have entered into the discussion of "what do you use to paint with?" . Well, the Harbor Freight HVLP gun always comes up. I have said, any time they go on sale, I pick up a couple. It's easier and cheaper to just throw them away than to spend money on lacquer thinner to clean them, not to mention the time involved. This weekend Harbor Freight is having a "Yard Sale". Here is what I got. Then I presented this: So, bottom line is $9.99 less 25% = $7.49 each. I bought four of them. I had 4 coupons, and I had to go through several different registers to get my discount, but it was worth it.

3 pointsGotta love this new day and age we live in. If you want something done right you gotta do it yourself! That's why most of us are here right?
-
3 pointsBob, it could be worse.. Of course this isn't just the postal service's fault, but it's Gov'mt related.

3 pointsHere is a pic of the mod I made to my 520s seat. I also removed the coil springs and the slider, then added big rubber bumpers made from an old bow roller off a boat trailer. I also added a hinged 1/16" thick plate to cover the holes in the seat pan. This keeps the grass out and also acts as a reinforcing plate for the bumpers to rest on. This arrangement is very stable.

2 pointsNot long ago, I sent a 1st class envelope from my house to a town 10 miles away, and it took 5 days. Last week I mailed a part in a padded envelope to one of our members in the UK and it only took 4 days. Someone needs to explain that. [emoji398]

2 pointsthis where I am at so far with the 1257.I pick this up in NY in May. what a jewel all original just a clean from the frame up. all is left is a good compound on the paint. I so wanted to do a video but my sound on this computer is not cooperating. I did want to keep it original that is why the car battery with the round post. Enjoy Gary B.

2 pointsThe gas lines are all new now with a fuel filter below the tank and rerouted under the engine. I need seat springs in a bad way

2 pointsI would loosen the bolts in the head and put it just like it was. I wouldn't tell them that I did anything or they may blame it on you.

2 pointsif the belt is longer than before by 1/4" the belt profile probably isn't allowing the belt and/or pulleys to slip enough when the clutch is pushed in. either the belt isn't slipping enough on the engine pulley and is still moving when the clutch is in, or any belt fingers or the belt cover isn't positioned properly. for the gears to be grinding you still have movement inside the transmission. all movement at the transmission pulley needs to be stopped otherwise the gears will grind. the belt guard is installed on the tractor, isn't it? without starting a debate here on oem vs aftermarket belts, i wish to say this is one of the reasons i only use oem belts. i have never had a problem when replacing belts with the same part number as originally on the tractor or application.

2 pointsI've tried every conceivable method of leaf pick up and a rear discharge deck with a lawn sweeper in tow is the best way to go.
-
2 pointsUnlike some other K series singles KT 17s do not have adjustable valves. If they are getting noisy they are probably too short and the only repair is replacement (and that is pricey). Other than losing some power I wouldn't worry too much about it.

1 pointNothing anymore frustrating than paying for work and getting screwed. Reminds me of when I had one of are semi tractors in for some work done on the steering shaft from the steering wheel on down to the steering box. I picked the truck up and made it around 75 miles. I was entering a interstate from a 360 degree entrance ramp right when I was ready to get on the four lane I hit a bump and the steering wheel came completely of the steering shaft! The idiots never tighten the wheel down and did not put the safety clip over the wheel. There I was holding the steering wheel in my hands at almost highway speed. I made darn sure they came and fix it on the spot. Then had a discussion with the service department and the mechanic that worked on it. If I were you I would most certainly take it back to them. Keep all paper work and who you talk to.

1 pointI'd love to have a small one like that just for the Horses! That is so awesome. If you ever build a bigger shop you could put in one that holds 3 or 4 at a time.
-
1 pointThanks for the education guys. Sorry if I lead you astray, but all my manual frannys have tabs on the belt guard and I thought they were all that locked the belt. I see now the tabs at the engine drive pulley can also hold the belt when there is slack in the belt.
-
1 pointGary, that is a very nice looking original there. you are doing right by the tractor by just cleaning it up nicely. would be a shame to loose that original 'character' by restoring it....... beautiful condition!
-
1 pointWhen the guard (cover) is in place, the end that attaches to the engine should have these tabs. With the clutch pedal released, and the belt pulled tight, each tab should be about 1/32 of an inch from touching the belt.
-
1 pointIs there a tab bolted to the side plate as shown on Martins first pic? Not sure what year Raider you have, but maybe WH changed the design and moved it from the belt guard to the side plate, which is a much better design, as you can check and adjust the clutch operation with the belt guard removed.
-
1 pointNo race here Martin. I just happened to have my Raider apart to show the two tabs. Hopefully JEGibbs will be the winner. One other thing I do to these two tabs is to increase the bend where the belt enters and exits the tabs. Make sure they are smooth with no burrs as they will wear on the belt covering.

1 pointI moved this from our Bumps and Bruises section into the Electrical section for ya. Mike.........
-
1 pointI don't think there's a 520 problem that hasn't been discussed here! Mike...........
-
1 pointwell i finally found the post on the idea. its from my good friend Mike, the finest kiwi around........ and Duke gets a special mention as well, but Mike was the first to mention it!!!!!! (Sorry, Duke!!!)

1 pointMy Series I KT also has some valve noise. So do the Onans. If it sounds like a chorus of valves, your OK. If you start to hear some soloists in the chorus, then you have a problem.

1 pointWow Ken, it must be National Dump Truck Screw Up Day. This one is here on Ohio 14 below an I480 bridge in Streetsboro. Looks like R.S. (republic services) is gonna be spending some bucks on a bridge..
-
1 pointNot sure if this will help. My Haban sickle bar was designed for your tractor. I retrofitted it on a 416H. Because I used the hydraulic lift, I moved the gearbox over about an inch. The tensioner arm is unchanged except for making the shaft longer to line up with my PTO. On mine the belt is very very close to the housing rod, yours should have more room. I connected the spring to floorboard rod, not sure where yours would connect to.
-
1 pointThis tractor is all original except the front tires, deck wheels, blades, filters, spark plug and carb. All paint, decals, seat, deck, every other piece is completely original, my dad bought it new. There is some touch up paint on the left deck side where it gets into the fence sometimes to stop the rust.
-
1 pointGene. My driveway has a good steep hill to. Here is how the 416 gets set up. Imho you WILL need chains. Sorry. I also have the stock turf tires. 70lb. Weights on the rear. Unstoppable. Just like the movie. Before I had chains. Got lucky ONCE. After that the tractor wouldn't budge. There's your snowblower in action. If your afraid of ring the paving I would try the rubber chains. I want a pair myself. Best of luck. Glenn

1 pointHere you go... It was under child no.2's bed Hopefully it shows the way the drive couples, gearboxes are similar copies of WH ones

1 pointWell here's my construction material of choice (Free) A 16ft RSJ from the old garage! It's 3/8" so pretty chunky, but fun to work with. This is the start of the centre pivot - kinda the most important bit of an articulated vehicle... Implement lift pins and bushes from the agricultural merchants down the road seem a sensible buy compared with making them... And a start was made on selling holes for the pin and bushes. Here's the various stages of cutting and shaping. And the plate that mates to the end of the chassis getting tapped to accept 3/8 bolts. here's a quick 2D sketch of the pivot. Mark
