Well today was a day of surprises! 1. Cherry Raider 9 2. A set of the Wheel Horse sunglasses with built in radio arrived in the mail. 3. And finally a nice Manila envelope also survived. Once I opened it I started to search for a frame. The photo is of my wife's great uncle and Cecil Pond. The signature on the top was icing on the cake.

Not sure what you had in mind when you went to restore this tractor. If you just wanted to restore it you succeeded. If you wanted to bring it back mechanically you have succeeded. If you just wanted to make it all shiny you have succeeded. If you just wanted to restore with your own twist on it you have succeeded. If you wanted to see how much money you could spend, not knowing but I imagine you succeeded there too. If you wanted to make me jealous you have succeeded. Now if you wanted to make it look like it came from the factory you have failed miserably beyond compare. They never looked that good coming straight out of the factory. You have something there to be real proud of and I am sure you have set the bar for the rest of us and have succeeded in being a motivator to some. Have enjoyed the ride along on this project thanks for taking the time to take pictures and share your restore.

Found the unusual find here in UK . The 854 are extremely rare here in UK ,in fact all round hoods are rare in UK . This little guy has been modified by attaching running boards from a 70's tractor . The running boards look like they were added a good few years ago , maybe as far back as the 70's . This tractor was apparently used to pull light aircraft around an airfield. There were 6 tractors bought to do this job & this little dude is no 4 . Sadly when I picked the tractor up is was minus a hood so I just placed the hood from my 653 , so I am now looking for a hood for an 854 should anyone have a good spare that they would like to sell & ship to UK.

One of my babies just left and it was sad. One of my customers bought it for her boyfriend and he was speechless. He's already started too, he wants a couple more in the spring. Hated to see her go but I gotta make room for the new ones following me home!

Look what I found in a barn today!!! Granted this was in a collectors barn and we did some Horse trading. It had been just sitting for over a year and will need the carb cleaned. It started right up and cruised around on it. It is dusty from sitting but that will get taken care of real soon!

Looks like an 854 to me 8 = horsepower 5 = Electric start 4 = year manufactured 1964 I wouldn't be too concerned about its value as you couldnt buy the amount of fun & enjoyment that this little tractor is gonna bring you. It's now part of your family , so is priceless

Thank you all for the information. It's much appreciated. These are a few photos taken by the guy I bought the tractor from. I'm hoping to get to use the tractor for the first time tomorrow. More photos to follow.

No offence but your trying to sell a "basket case" right now, I wouldn't expect to get to much for it as it sits, (unless your leaving those Wheel Horse rear weights on it ). I recommend you get the engine back in place and operational, tube the rear tire and fix any of the small items that a potential buyer will use to whittle down whatever your price is. Now the buyer can hear the engine for themselves and take it for a spin. Mike...........

My mom told me the other day she could get me a free wheel horse if I wanted it and I had been looking into buying a third one anyways so of coarse I said yes. Well we drove probably 35 minutes away to go pick it up when we got there they had it ready and loaded it for me and everything and this is what I got.

I just inherited a Wheel Horse lawn tractor. It has a scrap blade and a plow. It was my step-mother's father's tractor. She thinks it is around a 1970. I am new to Wheel Horses and I'm trying to figure out what I have. I don't know if it runs or not but, they said it ran a few years ago. The deck is in rough shape but the frame looks to be fairly solid. From what I can gather, from this site, it appears to have the big block Kohler motor. I have attached some pictures of what I have, fresh out of the barn.

So... it left the factory that color Scott? Can confirm this... but I thought I've read some left wearing OD green for military duty too.

POSI REAREND didn't know wheel horse made those. That would be nice for snow removal and garden tilling.

Unless a tractor is in really good shape and I really need want it, I just can't pay more than $100 for a non-running tractor. A non-runner leaves me wondering about the transmission & differential as well.

There was a very cute child driving a pink tractor with a pink wagon with a toddler in it at the show. She drove that tractor around most of the day. She was so proud and sat very tall. When I saw your pink setup on your web site I thought it might have been your daughter.

Steve- Mine is sort of a custom design. I am having footing poured first then the foundation which will be higher up front and then a slab. I plan on putting a good bit of drainage around the entire foundation and pipe it off into the woods.

Long enough that every blade of grass was pushed down by the ag tread tires in exactly the same spot! Must have been a low/low-low gear too!

I see David's as puzzled as I am.....How long do you suppose this guy's been displaying this tractor in this exact spot?

Less than three weeks to go.

Will I could haul the material with a Dodge and Ford attached to the back of the trailer too. I did a little tuner upgrade on it... Running over 800 ft lbs of torque now....

Ok truth be told some cities ordered tractors in certain colors I have seen yellow fords and john deere tractors because the state orders that color on them but I looked and cannot find a yellow horse anywhere on line. I would say he has a rare tractor

I know I'm not keeping up to the normal restoration pace I've seen here, but I'm trying. I was working on the steering, but I had a set back. My welder buddy, who is also a triple bypass vet, is in the hospital with some internal problems. So.. find something else to do for a few days. I decided to put one side on. Well, that turned into a project, as I mounted the pump wrong. I put it on top of the frame instead of under it. So unbolt all that, move it, now it's time to drill and mount the side. Thats done, so I think I'll take tomorrow off!! lol

Thanks guys ... psyco ... I sure wish I had the space, I do have a nice compressor and a gun, but I have zero space to work. Like working in a phone booth!! Rob .. I hear ya ... if I take it easy it's ok, but I keep the nitro patches in my wallet, and pills around my neck, so I'm ready if it starts getting "exciting"!! Anyway, got the hoses installed, and started with the steering. Trying to do all I can before putting the side panels on. My fat hands don't fit in tight spaces!!!

Well, I got the rear axle mounted, and the pump hanging by the rear mount ... so that means it's time for a ride to my local NAPA dealer for some hydraulic hose. Ahh, easy peasy, right? Ahh NO .. I don't have a fork lift!! Gettin' this thing in the back of my truck was a real chore, but it made it in there, kind of!! Glad it's only a few blocks!! Mr. Bill got the hoses custom cut and ready to install. Too hot to do any more today, so tomorrow we fill as much of this thing as I can with hydraulic fluid. I figure it will be easier now, as I can get to all the lines. I know some of you are wondering why this is so difficult, but with the condition of my heart and back, this is nothing short of amazing to me. Let's just not be mentioning this to my doctors, I'm tired of the lectures!! lol Oh, sorry about the foggy photo, I got primer over spray on my phone camera lens, and keep forgetting to clean it off!!

We should do an activity in FEB., so we can post pics of our "Horses, and palm trees, and tick off all the snow plow artists!! lol
