5 pointsPulled most of the team out for a group shot before heading to our local show. I've been to Mentone and Pennsylvania this year so this is my first local show. Really looking forward to seeing some steam powered equipment at the thrashing demonstration and the various mills and shingle machines in operation. Sent from my tractor seat.

4 pointsPicked up this '74 C-160 a few weeks ago and hadn't had a chance to post it yet. It was a one owner tractor bought new in '74 by the husband of the widow I bought it from. She was one of those women who had lived her whole life on a farm and could probably outwork most people half her age, myself included! She was still using the tractor to mow the ditches when it dumped all of it's transmission fluid out the RH axle seal. The local Toro shop said the bearing and seal needed to be replaced, and the cost to fix it was more than she wanted to put into it, so that's why she was selling it. I couldn't drive it in that condition, but the engine seemed to run well. The 48" deck is in very good shape and bearings are nice and quiet. The pads on the deluxe seat aren't the best, but at least everything is there. Overall the tractor looks well maintained, but also used pretty regularly it's whole 40-year life. She gave me the original manual. In it were lots of notes about services done and when. The hour meter shows a little over 1000 hours on it, but it wasn't hooked up so who knows how many hours it really has. The notes don't say anything about engine work, but it looks to have a newer shortblock in it. It has had some modifications over the years, but nothing that can't be undone as far as I can tell. I have already pulled the deck off and put it to work on my C-120. It mows very nice although the C-120 does lug quite a bit if the grass is tall or wet at all. It will do just fine for now. I'm looking forward to digging in to the C-160 and getting it back up and running. I'm sure a few surprises await, but hopefully they aren't too bad Dave

4 pointsFinally got it done just need to finish the mower deck and I will be looking for another project again

2 points2 more just came home with me from Seymour, IN today. They were both in this man's family since they were new. I found another 1973 14 Automatic, and a 1966 1276 Automatic. Also got a good extra deck for each one and they both run and mow. Somebody needs to take away all of my truck keys...

2 pointsGot some pictures of a couple of the other things I picked up. Here's the patches, a cabinet full of NOS stuff but nothing too special in there. Also the better kohler sign, there were two of them, but the other has paint flecking off on the bottom. I picked up a couple other things, but nothing really worthy of posting. There were a few other off brand parts I picked up and listed on ebay and just about paid for all the little stuff I bought so it worked out well.

1 pointI got home from work yesterday and saw this on CL. Non running C-125 for $150 about 15 minutes away. Nice seller who pulled the ad after I hung up. only for sale for 18 minutes. trashed seat, fender pan, no muffler. plow and hitch retro fitted from the older style, tire chains. turns over and tranny oil good. Of course, all I saw was the rear wheel weights!!! got it all for $125. plan to sell or part out the rest Of course the wife was out of town and now how do I explain this ???
-
1 pointThere are lots of axles on ebay listed by size and part number and fairly inexpensive too. You have your model number? Go to parts tree.com look up Toro -Lawn & Garden Tractors, scroll down the huge list and find your model. Under transaxles you can get the part number. simply enter that on ebay and one or even several will show up with pictures of the keyway and stuff. Plus there are a pile of people here that would have axles. I have one left that is 1-1/8 diameter, longer than normal for a D-series and it is just sitting there like a paper weight! I'd look it up for you if you gave me the model number no problem! I know B-80 is the type. Example model 1-0145 is a B-80 1974 Under Component Parts Trans part 2-27 is number 101880.

1 pointWell like I mentioned, we are still plugging away. Though we really missed our target completion date, this has been so rewarding. We will see this through until the end! Tonight we only had 5 members in attendance. Sometimes the smaller numbers helps us get more completed. The kids were doing a fine job and we were able to learn how some of the parts have to work in order to make the tractor function properly. They are still really engaged in the project which is very cool to see. Almost forgot to grab some photos again but here you go:

1 pointThey seem to be the clesest ones to me. I went to a little town called Napoleon, IN a few weeks ago where I bought what we are calling the herd, 9 of them at once plus several attachments. The other 2 I bought last month came from very near to Dayton, OH. I really wish there were more of them closer to me but what can I do. I gotta have more Horses!
-
1 pointGood score, but what are you doing buying Wheel Horse's on this side of the Mighty Muddy Ohio?
-
1 pointyou just have to keep looking until it tells you what it wants, good job on the detective work
-
1 pointWhat's the John deer without the blower? Nice herd!

1 pointHere is my home state, the "Land of Lincoln." All are correct but numbers 34 and 48 are out of date. Number 34 is actually famous for flooding the city in 1992, and the post office moved to another facility in 1997 - but still cost over 2 million dollars a year to maintain! Illinois also has the most bureaucracies per state in the nation. http://www.50states.com/facts/illinois.htm#.U9Am_bH6vkO

1 pointSweet! Thumbs up on the fleet. Like a rockettes pose,,now if the can only kick thier wheels up. Glenn

1 pointWell here she is pretty much complete. Just need to run some wiring, mount a 3 way switch, and a touch of paint. I gave it a try with a battery and it lifts my 185lbs with no trouble! Oh yeah how about the new bar tires?!

1 pointHa...here hold my beer and watch this. You could kind of fill it with water while you are heating up the neck...that would cut down on the BOOM.
-
1 pointWhere were you when i was in 6th grade!!!??? Wow those kids are lucky. This is a great idea and wonderful thing your doing here. They will remember this project for the rest of there lives, and possibly give them an interest in mechanics and engineering in there future. Thumbs up to you my friend.

1 pointNo one has ever said I can't laugh at myself. After talking with a couple guys here about my gas tank I couldn't resist pulling it off the shelf and looking at the filler neck. I've never replaced a neck but I knew this one had to be or I would need a different tank. Some things tend to bug me and taking a torch to a gas tank defies anything closely related to sanity to me. Even though I had flushed it out several times it still had a slight gas smell. I finally decided that if it's my time I've lived a pretty good life. So....I fire up the torch and stretching as far as I could I put the flame in the filler. OK, quit laughing at me, you all know it didn't go boom. I was amazed at how easy the neck came off. I may have to do dclarkes trick and raise the new neck a bit but I'll have to see when I start the hood. There's a little rust inside but the tank is really in good shape. It's cooking in the e-tank right now.

1 pointNeeded some room in my shop so I sold my 1982 Suzuki and a Toro Bronco yesterday. Looked around and saw I had too much empty space so I started doing the Craig's list thing again. Scored another Wheel Horse 416H in really nice condition from the original owner. Been garage kept it's whole life. $400.00 and no holes in the deck but needs a battery. That's three Wheel Horse 417 tractors in two months. 2H's and an 8 speed. Will have photos tomorrow. I don't think my wife understands me.

1 pointGlad to hear it Frank! I think you'd find it worth the trip. The club owns 110 acres that the show is held on... so this is not a small show. Hopefully your fellow Missourian Mike L (ol550) or the Steve (stevasaurus) will chime in. Mike used to camp, but I believe he said it cost more in gas to bring the camper than to stay in the hotel in town, and I believe Steve has stayed at a couple different hotels in the 5 or 6 years he's been here. Like Denny said, Mankato isn't too far away and has several chain brand options... Holiday Inn Express, Days Inn, Best Western, etc... St. Peter is just a little north of there (closer to the show) and also has a few chain options... AmericInn, Super 8 maybe another.... and there is one small motel in LeSueur itself, but it is usually booked by show attendees at this point. Never know though... might always be a cancellation. For anyone considering... remember, this is a show only! There is no swap meet at this event per Pioneer Power's rules. They hold their annual swap meet in April, and do not allow selling at the summer show (except for show feature vendors up in the feature building and some craft stuff in the ladies buildings) Now of course, this doesn't mean that private dealing can't go on in the parking lot or camping area... but please don't bring along a load of items expecting to lay them out for sale. It's not allowed, and has caused a big problem in the past. The NCWHEC is invited to display at Pioneer Power's show and we graciously abide by their rules. Anyone else thinking about coming? I'm of course expecting most of the regulars. (joebob, rydogg, MNwhfan, TerryM, prondzy, shynon, ol550, stevasaurus and several non-RS club members from the area) Denny, Martin? Either of you got time to make the trip this year?

1 pointI sold a Toyota Tercel once that looked like a Pumpkin. After Nu-Finish, It looked like a brand new Orange billiard ball!
-
1 pointBrought the new addition Horse home this morning. Inspection showed that it needs a seat, a bearing in the center blade mandrel, left side wheel on the deck, positive battery cable as well as a battery. The deck is a 48in side discharge. Has extra heavy floor board rubber. First time I have seen these. Still has the Wheel Horse emblem on the hood. One missing hub cap but they are plastic.

1 pointWe will be there Scott. I have saved one of the clocks for the raffle along with some other items.
-
1 pointJust sold another yard tractor and got a good price so I went back to Craig's List but they are all out of decant Wheel Horse's. If I had a grand-daughter young enough, I might buy her a smaller Wheel Horse and paint it pink, but never would I do that to a 400 series tractor. That's an abomination and should be punishable by death.

1 pointThese children will remember this project for the rest of their lives. When you are long gone from this earth, you will be fondly remembered as the teacher who cared. I venture to say that next year you will have trouble with the amount of students who will be clamoring for inclusion it the new project. When you mentioned that they were going to build that shed, I realized it would soon be too small for you needs. Your school is so very lucky to have such a giving teacher. You just do not see that kind of extra effort in todays world. You are doing Gods work, molding the lives of tomorrows leaders.

1 pointHere is a video of my run at the Keystone Nationals. Only recorded my second hook, first hook I forgot to turn on the GoPro. Had a good weekend though, Won the first round of Mod Twin, Finished 5th in the second round. http://youtu.be/hHHjjgdFNqI
-
1 pointAnd the best part is these kids will learn that lawn tractors are not all green and yellow and come from a big box store for 1200 bucks, and that you have to buy a new one every 4 years.

1 pointEmission constraints didn't kill Onan by themselves. Onan could not produce EPA approved engines as cheaply as foreign competitors. Eventually they could not compete and dropped the small engine lines. The EPA is partly to blame, but those of US that went for cheaper alternatives shoulder some responsibilty as well. Rant finished! :)
