3 pointshttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?feature=c4-feed-u&list=PLZacihMA2uxR7W7yLtu5RcQmBG3Hmr4ey Hello I just bought a "Custom" Wheel Horse last weekend, and I am curious as to what model/year this tractor is? It was repowered with a 10hp Apollo CF 186F (E) Diesel Engine, and I believe some pulley modification. Also does anyone know where I could pick up a mower deck for it? Thank You!

3 pointsI picked this 854 up last fall, it had a valve stuck in the engine and the oil pan gasket needed replaced as well as the points. I also had to replace the gas tank gasket, sediment bowl, fuel pump diaphragm and rebuild the carb. The tranny had water in it so I replaced all the bearings and seals, replaced the brake band lining and added a rear hitch. The seat was cracked so I picked up a good one at a show and I bought a back rest and had that recovered. It's got the wrong ignition switch in it so I've ordered a new one and most of the wiring has been replaced. The motor generator was junk but I had a good one on the shelf so I replaced that. The frame plate that bolts to the tranny was cracked, the hood stand bracket that bolts to the tool box was broken off along with one of the tabs that hold the belt guard on so I welded those things. This tractor was pretty rusty when I got it and I wanted to keep the original paint so I lightly sanded it just to knock the rust down a little then I wiped a coat of "salad dressing" on the tins. I really like the way it turned out, thanks for the idea Stevebo. The tires are cracked pretty bad so I may replace those some day but other than that I think this ones done. This may be the best running tractor I have.

3 pointsHi everyone, I just recently purchased my first real Wheel Horse (I've owned a couple of vertical shaft models in the past). It's a 1056 with a 12hp Kohler replacement engine and what looks to be a newer deck. I also got a plow and wheel weights, but the plow is missing the bracket that goes on the rear axle.

1 pointStarted a thread about this a week or so ago and deleted it because I wasn't sure if I was going to go through with the project or not. Didn't want to get everyone interested and then quit. Haha! So...anyway...I always wanted a self powered pull behind tiller, like the wt-244, to use behind my 701. Well, I started thinking, "I have this old Ariens frame playing host to a mud dobber condominium laying out in the back of the shop, so why not try to make something out of that!" I have a Tecumseh overhead valve motor that was collecting dust, so I mounted it up to the frame and started fabricating a hitch for it. Here's where I'm at so far. Will keep everyone updated as this mess progresses! Lol! here's the latest... hope I got the angle right! Added the thickness for the lift hitch!

1 pointI had some TSC rubber mat left over from the rear discharge deck modification. Hopefully the right rear rim/tire won't be all grassed up! plus it it will flex if I hit that tree!

1 pointHey all. Just picked up a raider 10 for $100! Runs nice but the wiring harness needs some love, needs an ignition, switches, etc (if anyone has some used parts I'd be willing to talk). I think the biggest problem is the motor. Runs great but its not original (hence the wiring issues). I believe these came with Techumseh or Kohler. This one has a Briggs with an electric clutch. I'm curious of the vintage of the tractor itself and the vintage of the Briggs motor. Also, is this the correct hood? I had to modify the bracket for it to fit. Thanks!!

1 pointI can't tell from the photos but does the Napa 1410 have indentations to take an end-cup filter wrench? I just changed the Toro filter (that is smooth) on the 523Dxi that was on so tight that I ended up driving a screwdriver through it to lever it off. All the tricks were used before resorting to this. The new owner prevailed - and I did get it changed!

1 pointStrongly second Craig's suggestion about the vendors here. Great bunch of Joes, and their parts are fine quality, and good price. Glen Pettit has a wide selection of knobs and other doodads to spruce up the tractor, Kelly Hollister probably has the largest garden tractor boneyard in the U.S., Terry (vinylguy) is the decal man, and bmaynard is getting back into brake bands. Just go to the main page of Red Square, and scroll to the bottom, the vendors are listed there. And of course, you can't tootle around the yard on your Horse without a Red Square hat, so pay a visit to the store here, and fetch a couple hats from Karl our moderator. Then you can tool around in style. And no, I am not paid for this plug, just have been very pleased with these folks whenever I have dealt with them.

1 pointDon't forget ebay, and our parts vendors here... both could be your friend to help keep this old going.

1 pointJust about finished painting the 312. I painted the wheels, but darker then the original color. I used Dupli-Color Graphite Wheel paint.

1 pointSome photos of the beginning Started with two front wheels and axle The difference is remarkable. It is very disconcerting at first to see exposed metal beside paint. I stopped a few times to makes sure I was only removing dirt. But as you can see from photos removing some paint is inevitable. Actually looking at the photos now I see I removed more than I thought I had. Think round two will be somewhere less conspicuous while I refine the technique. It feels a lot like polishing furniture Things I learned on my first attempt {in hopes others will share} 1. never used compressed air. You remove more paint than dirt. 2. try not to scrub - which is hard especially when trying to remove caked on grease. More to follow. Also, is that really a grease nipple on the front wheel? John

1 pointNo worries all I'm never going to pain it Last photos going up now The first in a long line of questions... So WD40 to remove grease and grime and very fine steel wool to??? What's the steel wool supposed to do? Get off the older dirt without damaging the finish? I would have thought anything even mildly abrasive would start removing what little paint is on it. John

1 pointI had a problem with a Kohler like that and it was the condenser. Just a thought and they are easy to change on those old engines Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Steve Lincoln IdealArc 250 Lincoln SA200 1966 Redface

1 pointI was blown away with all of the new old stock parts available! I know what I am going to be going for next year! The main things I was wanting this year was some belts, a solid link for the grader blade (found for $5 bucks!), and a steering wheel. I brought my 42" RD deck to sell but ended up trading it for the set of new old stock hub caps, and a 40" grader blade. I also really enjoyed looking through the original assembly manual for the 876 that I got. Finds: Here is the parts tractor I picked up. Hopefully I can get the steering wheel off.

1 pointI suppose you can't really blame Toro too much. The modern day homeowner has changed so much in the past 25 yrs. it ain't even funny. Most homeowners these days want NOTHING to do with maintaining their property, they are either too busy or too lazy. With very little in the way of sales due to lack of demand the price goes up and we all know that a REAL Wheel Horse cost big money to build. At the end of the day Toro has been pretty good to us by having quite a bit of parts still available to us. A lot of outboard company's have turned to China to produce their motors in an effort to cut costs. No thanks, I'd rather row. I'd like to thank Toro for not outsourcing Wheel Horse to China. As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. I'd like to tour the Toro plant if I'm ever in the area, it looks like it would be pretty interesting.
