Found these two on a fence row rotting away. Both are in very rough shape both came with mower decks and snow plows. both transmissions are free but the gear shift is froze on both. Some usable parts but not much. One has a 4 hp kohler, surprised to find it not froze up but has some good compression.

I went to the show in Evansville, Indiana yesterday. Lots of different tractors there and perfect weather. Larry and Judy Dexter's N.O.S. '72 Raider 8. Never had gas in it. Clay and Tiffany Brooks RJ, they have some amazing tractors.

Well I took another shot of the tractor along with something I picked up a few years back. I had to move some stuff around in the shed , I also pulled the 702 out to get it down off of the shelf. Have a Great day, Happy Fathers day to all Fathers! John

Contacted Wheel-N-IT yesterday morning and went up to get his 312-8. It's now 100 miles west. Here are a few pictures, never could get get the camera at the right angle to get both of us in picture. That may be why I have that crazy expression. I'll get it cleaned up and finish painting it. looks like it might need axle seals, unless the transmission has been over filled. I may have located another Wheel Horse today will have to go check it out.

Quick post, I had a three tractors down at bowers. Not a lot of vendors this year or tractors. For Wheel Horse being the tractor of the year , it was pretty sparse. The usual Horses where there that come every year. Nothing new though. My three where the only ones out in the line up in the field. Bill Jenkins was there with some stuff. A guy had a trailer full of gold wheel horses. I know they where gold because the prices said so...... Maybe Today will be different with the Garden Tractor pulls but I will not be able to attend due to work. Anyway here is my lonely Horses lol

Hi All, Picked up this rj a couple months ago at the mentone swap meet. Finally got it complete and running today. The little k91 runs very well. Just need to put a tube in one of the front tires and try to get the tranny to stop leaking and it will be done for now. It is leaking really bad from the input shaft sideplate. I'm hoping just a new gasket and some sealer will get it to stop, don't want to take the tranny completely apart for now. I hope to eventually restore this tractor, but it will be a while. It is a good complete tractor to start with and won't be too hard to redo. Anyways, here's a couple pictures I thought you guys might enjoy seeing. Next to one of my other 58's

The 550 I will be repainting it. Looking it over it has some play in the drive pulley on the transmission. Not sure if its the pulley itself or the shaft. So I brought up one of the better parts tractors to tare down for transmission parts. With the transmission out, into the Steiner and bucket it gets hauled back into the shed.

After finding those two Suburbans two days later I picked two more. One a 550 with electric start. cleaned the flywheel up and has spark now. Put some gas in it and purring like a kitten. The other with the 4hp Kohler has no compression and no spark. I put a Harbor freight motor on it till i get a 4hp Kohler running.

Short update.... Bendy made it to this years UK wheel horse round up and then back. I started on the footplates, using the original ones but reversed left and right. New bars for the footrests With the heavily modified plates back on Amazing how the original front angle works in reverse And with the seat on blocks to get the height Next stop, rear transmission strip down :D

I know Bob...I am not going to count on them making an announcement. If we know when to expect taking the picture, and all read this...it should work and be before the parade starts. As usual, we will take the picture of who is there. If they will announce it, I think that is the best time for all that goes on there...and should be the best time for the members showing up. I plan to take a lot of people pictures, so if they can not make the big picture, we can still get a picture of who is there. So, to all, if you can not make the big picture...stop by and get your mug shot anyway. A lot of us hang there all weekend...stop by and introduce yourself.

Figured with less than 3 weeks to go until the show this would be a fun topic. So... what are you going to bring and what are you looking for while there? I am picking up JDog's C195. I am bringing my 520-8, original 702 with deck (so I can mow a little while there-lol) and my son's Lawn Ranger. I am looking to have a good time and not have to worry about bringing the SR. or restored 35. I also want my son to be able to drive anyone of the tractors while there and not have to worry about who will start the pull start.

Found these in a barn. Got them for free!! I wish I had taken before pictures, I was thinking of taking a few parts off and scrapping them myself. They were so covered in dirt, dust and grease they were almost solid grey. The tractor is missing a few parts and the fuel pump doesn't work but it fired right up on starting fluid. Since it started, I figured I'd take it down to work and pressure wash it and see what I really had. When I brought it home my wife said she doubted if I would've gotten them for free if the guy had cleaned them himself. I love mowing for some reason, wife thinks I am crazy, and she may be right. I came up with this striping kit last week. I've used it twice now and I really like it. My only issue is that sometimes on rough terrain the bar will make contact with the rear wheel on one side (see past discussion topic) as something is a bit off with my mowing deck. I did put a strap onto that side of the deck and hooked it to a fixed object and pulled in an attempt to re-align it- that's another topic. Pretty self explanatory, but I used some flat stock, 3/8" threaded rod, and a 3/4" piece of rigid conduit.

That I had to finally get some pictures of the whole herd together! If you click on the pics, they will get larger. I've been using this one to mow the lawn, I'm Loving this 42" rear discharge deck! I still think the Column Shifter is Awesome! My main "worker". Taking this one to the Big Show, so if any of you wanna see the all-trails in person, keep an eye out, because I know there is a lot of talk about them! Hope you guys enjoyed the pics! I'd never pay that much money for a tractor if I had to push the friggin thing around to avoid putting any time on it. Most people that spend that much money on a tractor want to know that it does run and operate. I'd be willing to bet not too many other guys wanna push the friggin thing around either! This might explain why it still sits there because alot of guys that know about the tractor have the money to buy it. I'm sure that if you buy it, it won't be parked in your living room for long so ya probably don't wanna start it. I'm not too sure tractor collectors are as anal as gun collectors, I hope not....

I don't think it would leak. But why would you start it? Your paying through the nose for a museum piece. The uniqueness of this machine is that no time has been placed on the tractor. The second you spark that fuel in the motor, you might as well have dug a hole in your yard and thrown money in it. I don't want to talk down to you Jason and please don't take it as that but unless you have money to burn as in your a former top ranking VA Hospital Manager, a CEO or CFO to a bailed-out bank or automotive corporation, why would you want to run it? (Just know that it will run because there isn't any reason why it shouldn't run). Gun collectors pay through their bloodied fingers to acquire a weapon that is NIB and NBF and they will never ever fire them. That is their niche, their claim to fame! Just like this tractor has NBF. Do you see where I'm coming from? PS.....I have bought new cars that depreciate as soon as you title it let along put the first mile on it but that new car isn't a collector's car already nor is it old.

Steering now complete, very tight with no play Had a look at how the raider footplates might sit. That's it for a few weeks as we have the UK wheel horse round up next weekend :D

Hi kudzu3, Do you have a link to the service manual wiring diagram that you are using? A common frame of reference would be good. My B-80 seems to have the original wiring with not too many suspicious splices in the wiring from repairs. First up to get the engine running, do you understand the theory of a points-sparkplug-coil-condenser engine ignition system? Sorry to ask but when someone says they don't know electrical systems, sometimes they know more than they think they do. The other question is, are you going for an all original components restoration or a running restoration with newer electrical parts if need be? Edit: This is a good video for the ignition system. We have one cylinder so no distributor on the B-80. Otherwise all the components are the same. Edit 2: I found this I see what you mean. It is, how do I say this nicely, creative! I'll be happy to work with you on this using my B-80 as a reference and your preference of original or generic parts. An inexpensive volt ohm meter isn't absolutely necessary, but is very handy for electrical work.

"I love mowing for some reason" You are not crazy nor alone in your love of mowing. there is something magical about it. Nothing better than looking back on a freshly cut and level lawn. ​When I am mowing I really don't think of anything else and what ever problems or troubles that may have been bothering me seem to just disappear. In my lifetime I have found two activities that relieve stress and require my complete attention. Manicuring the lawn and Bass fishing. Unfortunately I do not have a lawn or a tractor anymore so lately it has been Bass fishing with my nephew. A long time ago when he was too young to drive I would take him top water fishing. Now I am an old guy and he takes me fishing all the time in his champion. I still miss mowing though. How many of you find yourself standing and looking at the perfectly cut lawn for more than just a few minutes. onlookers may wonder what the heck you are looking at but then they just dont understand. That is a great looking stripe cut you got there PMaine.

Well, Yesterday morning before the show I got to work on the C175. I pulled the deck off , checked oil , blew in the gas tank to prime the lines. I put the jumper pack on and it fired right up. Didn't want to idle but after a few minutes it was purring like a kitten. This machine must be low hours. No play in anything where you would expect it. It ran so good , I even brought it down to the show and bought a battery for it. You know a tractor is worth while around here , when I buy a new battery for it.lol After the show, I cleaned up the deck and mowed the back yard with it for awhile to get it good/hot and to burn some of the stale gas out of it. Went to drain the oil and drats ! The oil drain tube is loose , which would explain the build up of grease and oil on the shaker plate. Guess now I am pulling the motor to fix that. Oh well , its always something. All in all , its runs great , no smoke and sounds good too. SO I guess I cant complain.

UPDATE: This Wheel Horse is no longer mine. Lo and behold, two of our members got in touch with me. One offering to sell me a recently rebuilt good running K341 rubber mounted Kohler (correct engine for the C-165), and another member offering to purchase this 312-8. Talk about good timing!!! So after a few phone calls and a couple of hours drive time, Don1977 (another NC member) arrived to pick up his new tractor. This was my first time meeting Don face to face. I really enjoyed our time together, and I hope to see him again next time I'm in the western part of NC. Should all go well I will be picking up the K-341 at the Big Show on Friday. Also picking up a excellant condition high back (wheel horse embossed) seat for the 416-8. I am delivering a 42"RD deck and mule drive, also the PECO rack that I had advertised. Yes I'm excited, and looking forward to Thursday when Jay and I leave for Pa.

Thanks Bob, My 4-speed unidrive transmission shopping list looks like: 2-27 axles (and hubs) 2-28 Input Gear 2-31 Spline Shaft Steve, I found the root cause of why this transmission was such a mystery. The needle bearing 2-29 was not installed. By who? I don't know. I'll assume the factory. The two needle bearings in the case supporting the input gear were taking the entire radial load for awhile, failed, and the the boss in the casting supported the input gear at an angle. The boss is worn down about .030 on the low side. I am sure a machine shop can fly cut the boss back to level and some McMaster-Carr shims or thrust washers can replace the missing meat. The photo shows what it did to the spline shaft.

Thanks r356c...it was a pleasure being a part of this. I'll bet you get more then 40 years out of that transmission...and you are right...it is a very good group of people here...you just increased it by one.

Van, I really wish that I could be there!

At this point, and I have done this, take a 4" grinder and carefully cut the hub along the length of the axle. A Sawsall will work also, but the grinder is a lot more fun. If Bob has an axle and hub, and I bet he does, just cut off the axle. It is really weird that the input shaft is stuck and everything else turns and shifts.

I'll be buzzing around on my 1054. Not in the market for anything and wont be bringing anything to sell. I may pop a couple tractors up in the classifieds and offer to deliver to the show. Mike.............

I'm bringing my 73 12 "Ezra" I got some gear drive deck parts to sell along with some Eaton 1100 parts. Plus a shop binder with some manuals and bulletins,some rear axle brackets and a homemade generator frame. A Brinly plow to slot hitch adapter and a few left over calendars as well. Picking up a cultivator set from Chasm, and plow from dclarke (Thanks Steve). Hope to pick up a nice RJ or suburban and a non-shaker 14 or 16 HP engine. Also bringing a tiller which is sold, a back rest for AMC and Vinylguy's flake flinger!

An overdue update... Thought I'd get in the action on fender repairs, by the time I welded up the holes in a c series fender, I thought it easier to weld up the very rusty raider fender. i would do the tower (hood stand?) after you get it to a complete rolling frame, something like this.... frame (rolling) with lower steering gear etc.... hood stand, dash and upper steering shaft all wiring, everything behind and around hoostand, choke, throttle cables, battery box, etc all rear stuff, seat pan frame, seat pan, etc engine, finish off electrical, gas lines etc hood, seat and all decals last........ theres probably a lot i missed but most of the parts that are in those general areas would be included at the time you are working on that area.

Thanks guys! ----- The one thing I have tried to stay consistent with on every tractor is somekind of "originality" look. This has been one of the things that I hear the most comments on when at a show. I want them to look just like Wheelhorse or JD or whatever company would have built them as a truly factory articulated Garden Tractor- Not a scale copy of anything. I have seen some builds of different brands that resemble nothing but an original hood and that's about it. One thing I take pride in is the finished look of the sheet metal.The first few builds were kinda rougher but since I've added some shop equipment I am gaining in that area. Another thing I try to do is never destroy a nice tractor. Johns Gt was a parts machine when we started with it. I have done a couple builds just starting with hoods, fenders and then Hand built the frame. These are my favorite way to go as of lately as I'm working with fresh metal and that's a luxury. Now as a contradictory statement to the above, I have a friend who wants a scaled down build of an actual 4x4 Articulated Production farm tractor. I am going to do this build- with full intentions of it NOT looking like any garden tractor. Its a whole different look as it should be. I hate to stray from my course but this one should be a ton of fun and hope I can hit the look he wants. Its going to be a challenge !!!

Ok please let me add my 2 cents here. I spoke to Cecil Pond directly and he said there was no exact wheel horse red. He said there were many variations in the color over the years as mixing paint was not the exact science it is today. I painted my c-121 with ppg two part epoxy primer, three coats sanded between coats, three coats of ppg red ( I have the code some where ) and three coats of clear. Cecil laughed and said he was pretty sure it didn't look like that when it left the factory! I then painted my c-161 with rustolium sunrise red and it is pretty close match at a third of the price. I just wet sanded the heck out of it till I practically had no finger prints! So like someone said earlier paint it a color you like. That will be your Wheel Horse red!
