    I may be wearing a pair of Union Jack shorts to the show, I hope people don't think that I have brought the British weather with me, We got caught in a huge thunder storm yesterday and got soaking wet, , I actually thought you RS guys had arranged the storm to me us feel at home . 3.30 AM as I wrote this post, still can't get used to the time change, would be 9.30 AM in UK. Spoke on the phone to Mike Martino last night & had a good chat Had a Skype call with steveasaurus just before we went out to evening dinner, ended up talking for ages so didn't get dinner lol . Anyone that gets a chance to visit New York should got to the 911 museum, all I can say is , WOW . Another WOW, 2 New York bagels , 2 latte coffees 1 choc chip muffin $35.00

    No worries Steve. I, as well as most folks, have a wide screen monitor Enjoy the show everybody. One of these years I'm going to make it. Looking forward to the video and the pics.

    Well, I did it again! Only this time I can justify a portion of it. While looking for another David Bradley, I found this nice 196? Gravely Model L 6.6 hp with a 26" snow cannon, 30" bushhog, gear reduction hubs, and dual wheel adapters 1/2 hour away. The tag/plate is gone so I can only guesstimate the year. I bought it mainly for the bushhog as I really don't need another snowthrower. I already have backup for the backup! It will mow an embankment that I used to use my trim mower or weed trimmer. After my foot surgery, it has been hard to do so this should make easy work of that. These walk beehinds can take up to a 60 degree bank with the Gravely T-Head engine. The blade is 3/8" steel on the bushhog. I am the third owner and the 1st owner painted it grey for some reason. In the next few weeks I hope to return it to the proper colors. I also need to find an electric start for it as my arm is tired already.

    I've been working on painting the motor the past few days. I painted everything except the hood, I touched up the hood for now. The decals will take a few weeks to get so I'm gonna hold off on painting the hood.. I'll probably take it out on Monday as I have the week off...

    Everything else looks good! Wheelhorseforum is well on it's way to getting another horse back on it's feet. The resources here, both technical and experience wise are unbeatable.

    Well I went and picked up the work horse on wednesday, had it running thursday and mowed with it on friday lol The PO said it had a bad rod or something but the sound he heard was the starter stuck in the engaged position while turning it by hand. Had to replace the throttle butterfly shaft as the original was busted causing it to either stick wide open or search up and down. The deck was stuck so when i took it off I found bale twine around both spindles, had to cut that out and give it a ton of greece. The bad news, the engine is tired and the deck isn't level Not really a big deal, looks like I have another project

    Finally got the hood ready for primer today. Sure took a lot of work, but it is straight as can be now. Will prime this and the rest of the parts again sometime next week.

    I first wet sanded the boat with scotch-brite pads to remove oxidation etc. I then went over the boat many times with my Dewalt buffer using 3M rubbing compound and wiping the residue with lots of microfiber towels. I then went over it a few times with Mothers mag and aluminum polish... When I say its a dirty job I ain't even kiddin... I wear my most worn out jeans and shirts and toss them in the garbage when done for the day. I had a friend that wanted to do the same to his boat. Well, after a half hr. or so he said the heck with this! Determination is key. To think that I polished two boats last yr! Hopefully this was the last one I ever do....

    I recently picked this boat up from Stevebo... In the back of my mind I had a feeling it would one day be mine. I'm almost done polishing it, I just need to do a little more on the very bottom where the trailer bunks are in the way. I think maybe next week while on vacation I'll get to that. When I get back from the show I'm going to have seat cushions made for it. Over the past few days I have been putting together a motor for it, a 1953 Evinrude 25 hp. Its now all together and purrs like a kitten, now I just need to repaint it and add decals...

    Doesn't it just frost you when you see all these posts about how excited everyone is about going to the show? Well this is another year of that right? Everyone's going but me.... So you going to do what you did last year? Yeah you remember, you came here, right here to waiting anxiously for....... pictures... Yep the generous guys who take the pictures. When those first pictures start to roll in, how do ya feel? Well a little better right, but still wishing there was more so you wait for the next one and the next one..... This year in conjunction with Terry from ReDoYourHorse.com will be streaming LIVE from the show! There will be at least one web cam established at the show which will be broadcasting live right here on RedSquare the show. Miss the parade? Not this year, we'll be streaming it live to you! Now don't get too excited, this is a first time trial effort, and we'll certainly do our best to get your show urges satisfied, but it will be the first time that the WHCC show is brought to you live!

    I was out and about today and drove into Desoto. I have stopped by Mueller Motors-Olson before and always look to see what's in their yard. But I hadn't been there in a while. So I decided to stop in and say hello. They still have the RJ58 in their building, on a shelf. It's moved from the window as I always seen it before to the adjacent wall. I talked to Tony, who apparently now runs it and we talked about how tractors aren't made as sturdy as they once was. He said whenever they come across an older Wheel Horse that has them stumped on fixing it, they come here to RS for the answers.

    SOI.......I think the core issue at Toro is they don't/won't waste any of their resources on supporting tractors that are long ago considered "unsupportable". They, (the company...not the employees), are not making any money off of direct support of 15 to 50+ year old tractors. If you had an issue with a newer Toro, you may have had a response after two or three email re-routes! (Which in this down-scaled corporate era is good)!

    its looking real good, Jake. Will be another very nice tractor when you are done..... I gotta say Jake you have a bunch of talent for these tractors at such a young age, and I'm always floored by how much knowledge and ability you have at finding parts for these older ones. You are becoming a force to be reckoned with!!!! Us older guys better watch out, i know I'm looking out!!!

    RD for me. I got 2 42 inchers. I have a flap on the back to keep the hydro clean and wash it when done each time anyway. I also sweep the yard to keep my beagle from eating all the grass and getting sick. I have lots of trees and obstacles so I need to trim close to each side hence the RD and Hydro.

    Well I couldn't wait for the sun to come up to take a decent picture, I was so excited! But I bought a 418-A My first venture into the world of hydro. Not the one in the picture from the previous post,that one was gone. But this is a 418-A with a 48 inch mowing deck. Has a nice hydraulic lift. I am pleased. What do you guys think? I am putting the deck up for sale. The guy said it was a 48" but I didn't measure it yet. Anybody want to trade me a snowblower attachment? and some weights for the deck? Let me know,I live near Boston.

    Amanda I would pay attention to what Save Old Iron wrote. He has articulated just what you can expect from the proper use of this product as long as you use it properly and have reasonable expectations. Personally I have used the product on several occasions but not on a regular basis. The only fuel I can purchase in my area has ethanol and I see no reason to add Sea Foam to that on a regular basis. As for the oil. I would never do that. Oil manufactured today add everything an engine needs to stay clean and keep it well lubricated. The only thing you need to worry about is using the right viscosity. When it gets close to the end of the season, I make sure to leave no fuel in the tank, use the cutoff valve to use up the fuel in the gas line and fog the carburetor to keep the engine running long enough to get any remaining fuel burned up. Did this all the time with 2 cycle outboard motors and never had a problem when starting them in the spring. What ever fuel I have left in the tank and gas cans is used for the generator or goes into the truck.

    Picked up a Suburban 1961 which has a Clinton in it. Looks original, but not sure yet. Came with original wheel weights, snow plow and mower deck. Oh yea this one has the serial number on the tractor and the mower deck. I'm tickled about this find. I already cut some grass with it. enjoy!!

    No, no, not beating it at all. This is quite good information for many on this forum. There was a time, when I was much younger, when most men could identify a metal by appearance, weight, and other properties. Now, most folks haven't a clue. This topic is very useful for those who collect and restore these machines, and any other vintage metallic device or item.

    Looking forward to seeing all the horses and their owners on the "big screen". I do not know if it will take the place of being there, last year was a first time experience for me, but I hope to be able to see the parade. I know all in attendance will have many good stories to share. Dennis

    Here's what I think of seafoam. Does it work - IMHO, can't hurt. I use both seafoam and MMO. I think of seafoam as a cleaner and MMO as an upper cylinder lubricant. I use seafoam occasionally and MMO in every tank. Does it work? Again - don't really know. The BIGGEST reason I use the stuff is, again, it can't hurt, but for me it's part of the fun of kind of checking out of the real world and back into the past, along with the old iron tractors. I'm sure if my grandfather would have bought a Wheelhorse, he'd be dumping something in the gas. I have a friend whose grandfather worked at a Ford dealership for about 40 years and swore my MMO. My friend and my self think - well if it was good enough for them, it's good enough for us. So - I say, use the treatment you like and don't look back! It's all good! Bill

    I wouldn't consider this a custom light set up, but rather a "mild" modification, from the original, and certainly from what was on it when I purchased it. Six tail lights and two reverse on my 18 Automatic. I also have six reflectors for the front of the rear fenders. Mark.

    Fine stuff !!!!! But I just bought a 20 fluid ounce can of max clean by Royal Purple And if it is anything like RP gear oil and all their other products it should work even better Than Sea Foam. Check out RP, Most of my trany,s have RP gear oil in, Much like Everything else you get what you pay for !!!!!

    I work on a LOT of small engines and tell everyone about using Seafoam in the gas. The hardheads who don't listen are repeat customers. The ones who do take the advise don't have problems. 'Nuff said. Modern oils don't need any help. "That's all I've got to say about that"

    yah as a gas treatment. i have had very good luck using it as a gas treatment on onan powered wheelhorse tractors. got rid of the surging at idle and engine purrs now. nah as an oil additive because as stated above modern oil is very good. i use shell rotella T oil as its high in zinc. (ZDDP) zinc is an anti- wear additive that the EPA made the oil companies remove because it was screwing up modern cars with catalytic converters. i use it in my old chevy truck and small engines. just my 2 cents. mike in mass.

    I think this is very cool, but I am concerned that I will look fat on TV. I hope you guys at home just love listening to Kohler engines run all day...there is a ton of background noise with all of the people riding around.

    Got the motor and recoil rough blasted today, will glass bead it tomorrow and then clean it up. I would love to put it in the dishwasher, but don't think that would go over so well with my mom... and we have nowhere else for a spare. Also, a question for you guys...I pulled one of my rings off to check ring gap and it measured.011, do you think I should even bother changing them? Thanks, Jake

    Here is my take on this and it is quite simple. I have mowed with both type decks over the past 30 yrs. and both do a decent job. The advantages and disadvantages of each deck have all been mentioned so I won't bore you. A rear discharge deck is boring! It just seems as though you are doing nothing but riding around the yard with one. Being able to watch the clippings come out of the side discharge keeps me entertained.

    With either the RD or the SD, just adding a set of 'Gator Blades' will give you smaller clippings and better throw (six blades = 12 cutting edges, about $50/3 blades). • Keeping the original metal extender chute on the SD will reduce blow-back onto the tractor by extending/lowering throw, but it sticks out another 8" (some people have added a hinge to reduce the storage width). • A firm rubber baffle can be added to the back of the 42" RD, (the original 6 bolt holes for it are already in there), that would reduce the clipping 'blow-up' (I bought and used a 4' long strip of black kitchen rubber edge base molding, 4" tall, $2, Menards, but have to replace it yearly, gets brittle over the Winter here in Michigan). Wheel Horse did offer a metal baffle for this at one time, but using it makes it harder to slide the deck off & out sideways for blade sharpening (unless you lift the entire front end to pull the deck forward & out to remove it, like I have to). Both mower decks have their advantages/disadvantages that were well pointed out above; condition of the deck is a big factor, and if the price is right, get both and sell one. They each do take different belts and blades, are not really interchangeable.

    That is an advantage to the RD also althought maybe not in your circumstance you will never fill a flower bed or garden with an RD. It really does not throw the grass very far, it sort of just falls where it's cut, no windrow.
