11 pointsI saw Bert's herd so I had to share a photo that I took earlier of my 1990's rides. The 1998 314 is on the right. The 1996 416H is on the left with the 1996 416/20 in the middle. I likem!!!

7 pointsJust picked this up today. Saw it advertised last night, took some dealing but it followed me in my rear view mirror for about 12 miles. Thanks to someone from Johnstown, PA that decided to come to the Great State of Texas back in 1989. One owner, has all original paperwork, brochures, bill of sale.

6 pointsBeen looking for a 1848 for a few years, but no more. Been hitting Craigslist at least once a day for what is seems was forever. Finaly one pops up in Arkansas but was gone real fast. Did a Searchtempest look and this one had been on for a month. Don't know how I missed it, about 2 hours away, PO had given up on it when he broke the inlet nipple off the fuel pump. Thought about how to fix it all the way back. Reamed nipple and pump body and tapped a piece of 3/16 steel brake line in it. New fuel line and filter and it came to life. The deck he said worked but I will get it on the scrap pile as soon as possible. When finally drug the deluxe canopy out I told him that he just made the deal and lets get it loaded. It definately needs to be Martinized though.

5 pointsWell, it was sad to see it go.....but I sold my GT14. It needed so much work, ran like a top but looked rough,luckily enough for me a dude and his two sons bought it to fix it up, so I knew it would have a better life with them. After they left I delivered a brand new JD X320 to a family friend of ours, she had no means to get it home, NICE TRACTOR! She also bought a matching trailer, she then gave me her old 418A for free!!!! Along with 2 pics of her late Wheel Horse loving husband sitting on it the day they took delivery. She also included bill of sale, finance paperwork, and all sorts of sales literature!! I am honored to be the new owner and keep this wonderful machine in its retirement. Just wanted to share my cool story.

3 pointsI work on a LOT of small engines and tell everyone about using Seafoam in the gas. The hardheads who don't listen are repeat customers. The ones who do take the advise don't have problems. 'Nuff said. Modern oils don't need any help. "That's all I've got to say about that"

2 pointsHi All, Well I finally invested into a Wheel Horse. I had been creeping on here for a couple of months now and been trying to learn as much as I can about these machines. I had bought a little acreage and was looking for a garden tractor. Didn't want to buy anything new b/c they're all crap nowadays. I started doing a lot of research on Wheel Horses when I saw an ad on CL. This is my 520-H that I had just bought. It came with the 60" deck, single stage snow blower, chains, wheel weights, and only has 525 hours. I had bought it for $2,100. Think that was an alright deal? I was just thinking I would have spent somewhere between 2k to 3k more on something new with a snow blower and it be not as reliable as these are. I'm kind of concerned using the chains on my concrete driveway though. Anyone consider trading for the plastic ones? They're the v-bar ones know. I just love the fact when the whole block is mowing their yards and they all have the same brand and the same green color tractors, they all stare at my wheel horse. Love it! p.s. Just ordered new blades, and not trying to figure out how to remove the deck just yet. Is it possible just to lift the front end on jack stands? If so, where would be the safest place to place them on the horse? Thanks! -Gabe Lincoln, NE

2 pointsyah as a gas treatment. i have had very good luck using it as a gas treatment on onan powered wheelhorse tractors. got rid of the surging at idle and engine purrs now. nah as an oil additive because as stated above modern oil is very good. i use shell rotella T oil as its high in zinc. (ZDDP) zinc is an anti- wear additive that the EPA made the oil companies remove because it was screwing up modern cars with catalytic converters. i use it in my old chevy truck and small engines. just my 2 cents. mike in mass.

1 pointWell the girlfriend came to pick me up at work since we are short a vehicle from the PA hail storm. When she drives up I see a Raider 10 in the bed of the truck! She saw me looking at it on craigslist. It was listed with a plow , blower and deck. But when I called , he said it was sold..... Turns out the person he sold it to was her . Totally through me off, Ill tell you. Not many girlfriends out there that will buy you a tractor lol. And here I thought she was thinking I had to many.... She said, I like the older ones , with the older hoods. Yours are to new looking. So then she saw an RJ today and now I guess we need one of them too . Oh well, I guess this gives me the right to buy some more . Only issues with it is, it leaks fuel out of the fuel shut off mounted on the hood stand. Only when the fuel is turned on. Can I replace seals in this or buy a new one like it to mount there or do I just have to eliminate it with a new plastic type?? Second issue is the starter went south. It flew apart on the guy she bought it from when he was starting it. Now I have broken pieces. The starter motor is good but not the gear drive bendix. Any one know where to find a starter for a 10 horse Tecumseh?? No one local has one.... I showed the starter to Bill Jenkins and he said he never saw one like it. It has a heavy cast iron mounting bracket that uses two bolts to mount to the block. He told me , it was the first time he saw one like it. Hope that's not a bad sign.... We would love to be able to take this to the tractor show this weekend in bowers pa. We did however kick start it by towing it behind the 520H and it ran and drove really nice actually. So that was a plus. Here are some pictures for you guys.....

1 pointFound this little pony and couldn't wait to get it home to tear into. It is really straight and the work to bring it back to life has begun. Took me about three hours and walla---she is all apart ready for restoration. The motor has a busted rod, but I have the same little K91 with a fresh rebuild all set to go in when she's finished. I will start the hunt for another rebuild kit once I find out if the engine on this one needs to have cylinder bored or crank turned, so I know what sizes to buy. always nice having a fresh engine to put in one of these little guys.

1 pointI use it in all my engines. I put one ounce per gallon of gas. I put the Sea Foam in the empty gas can then go to the gas station and fill the can, that way everything gets mixed good. I use it year round in my tractors and pour a can of it in my truck and blazer gas tank about three or four times per year. It works good for me. Hope this helps.

1 pointFactory 418-8 was one of the best and smoothest running WH tractors I ever owned it had electric lift. Here we go......wish I would have never sold it!

1 pointVery nice set up. I think you have a good deal at $2100. That machine with the 60" deck and two stage snow blower, wheel weights and chains is the complete package. I imagine you will be very happy with your purchase.

1 pointFinally, worked it hard today, gave it a bath and a good rubdown and it is heading into the stable soon for a rest. This was quite an experience redoing an old horse, cost me a LOT more than I had expected, but, it is worth it, it will still be running after I am gone, LOL Still need a few decals to finish up, hope to get them soon.

1 pointi have been doing a little reading on the surging. i thought id dealt with most of the Nikki carb issues in the past but this one I'm going to try tonight when i get home. specifically the last statement by kpinnc here..... i really only put an upper gasket in this carb as it was running really nice way back in this thread. I guess its worth a try, i have a new float and needle sitting on the shelf.......

1 pointVan - when you pull the engine, you might think about ridding the balance gears. I'm pretty sure the Magnums had them. Haven't been in mine to check - yet....

1 pointI have a 420-8. It started as a 416-8 but I had it repowered with a very new 20 horse Onan. I know it doesn't count but just thought that I would throw it out there. Been thinking of have decals made for it.

1 pointA quick way to tell the 16 hp motors is the exhaust port. The 341/m16 have 1-1/4 pipe threads instead of the 1 on the 10, 12, and 14's.

1 pointAs usual, the Haulasuarus is bringing a NOS brinley plow for Squonk...picking up 2 Techy engines for TerryM and a seat for DClark for one of his horses. Don't want to jinx myself, but with Butch showing up...I just may have a raffle tractor to bring back also. It will be good to see all of you guys again.

1 pointheres a couple pics of mine, not the best pics but thats all i have, would have been better to see the footrest on there to compare position. standard replacement HD napa idler, same size as the oem that was on it, 93-9809 belt. notice the position of the idler when clutch is out.....

1 pointtidied up some more things today, its at the stage where i could throw gas in the tank and fire it up, but not so fast. i want to go over everything and check bolts etc. i always find something i missed tightening, either got interrupted or left for another part to go on first. So that will get taken care of next. but today i got a fuel filter on, oil drain for the engine was installed, 2 qts of GL-5 gear oil in the unidrive and 1.75 qts 10W30 Rotella T5 synthetic blend in the engine, tidied up some carb stuff that needed doing including choke cable install, initial adjustments on the mixture and finishing off the throttle linkage. the fuel line was re routed a bit because of the filter install. was having so much fun the only pic i took early on was this one of the oil drain parts.. even the galvanized stuff can look good with a little polish. one last look at the top of the engine before the air cleaner is installed.... then i tackled the lower dash plate and shifter plate. these were powder coated yesterday at work and today i applied some of the decals Terry has already done for me. i had a voltmeter that i got some time ago, so i used that instead of the oem one that was hard to get looking good, had dust inside the lens and i also noticed it wasn't reading voltage correctly when i hooked it up the other day. installed the original to this tractor hour meter with 585 hours on it and the light and ignition switches. the shifter plate got a new microswitch for the parking brake light and some decals. still need the large warning decal and the shifter decal will be changed for a more accurate size 1995 one.

1 pointhooked up the battery to check out all the electrical. its amazing how everything just 'works' with good wiring and clean new connections. i still need to paint the lower dash plate and shifter plate, but for the electrical test i just installed some gauges and the switches and hooked the wiring to the back of them. the hour meter i cleaned up and will be kept as its original to the tractor and has the correct hours on it, the volt meter is not as nice as i would like and will probably get replaced. Switches were cleaned up and tested earlier..... Terry has already got my decals as close as humanly possible to match the oem ones here..... i think i need to come up with some sort of decal for the battery too, looks a little bare with all the standard decals ripped off. still need to get the air cleaner lid rechromed.... tested out the warning lights, oil blinked like it should too.... i was lucky both the rolling 416s came with good indicator boards with all lights working. also got a muffler heat shield from a member here limited12, thanks so much, Tommy! heres a few more, I'm getting impatient, i want to fire it up and go........

1 pointTrouble is the weather has been so darned uncooperative this year that I don't have much of a window of opportunity to paint. Considering that I paint in the driveway, I am subject to hot, cold, wind, rain, pollen, leaves, neighbor cutting grass and raising dust, etc. So with that said, I finally got the wheels done, tires cleaned and mounted.

1 pointTo paint the cooling fins of either the engine block or the cylinder head defeats the purpose of the fins and MAY be detrimental to the engine as a whole. The purpose of the fins is to help cool the engine and a layer of paint would be, effectively, an insulating blanket. The same is true of the hydro pump in automatics. IMHO, don't paint them.

1 pointLooks good Mike! I am going back to work on fitting that seat to the 416. I got to get that seat on it! Tom, those tires look real good on your tractor; aggressive tread without detracting too far from the original turf look.
