Every Memorial Day we roll out some tractors, meet up with some friends, and drive through two local parades. We had amazing weather and a great line up for both parades. One of my students in the tractor club, Thomas, came out to drive my 701 in the morning parade. I hooked up the 4 wheeled wagon and he pulled my kids through the parade so they could throw candy. Here he is all ready to roll..... My good friend Lewie Bolinger showed up with his new "rat rod" today. This is the first time we have seen it. It got a ton of looks today! So cool! It has a shortened frame, weed eater engine, lever steering, hand throttle, etc...... The morning parade was very nice in the small town of Leesburg, IN. Here are some shots of us getting prepared. Thomas controlled the 701 as I navigated the infamous "Drags-tor" After a quick lunch at a local burger joint we unloaded in Syracuse, IN for our afternoon parade. Dad drove the 1045 with the 4 wheel wagon in tow. My daughter Addison is having some carb issues with the "Lady Ranger" so she took the 701 with LTD 24 trailer through the parade route. My son Zach hopped on his 500 Special and made it to the start of the parade and then it died . Not sure what the issue is but I am assuming the carb and probably fouled out plug. I felt horrible for the little guy. Had to push that thing about a half mile back to the trailer while he was on it. Here we are hanging out in the shade ready to roll. Finally here is a picture of a good friend, **** McNeal who encouraged me to get in the hobby a long time ago. He is sitting on his beautiful GT-14. Hope that every one else had a great Memorial Day as we did!

Worked her like she was a red-headed step-child, and she performed flawlessly. Have a small acreage in the country that I still go out to play in occasionally. Has the old house, a pole building, and some of my old farm equipment. Now that I have the 312, I can get serious about cleaning the property up. Mowed out there about a month ago, but other matters prevented me from getting out there till yesterday. Here are a few photos of loading the tractor in the truck, driving the 50 miles to the farm, and shots of before, and after, mowing for a solid 5 hours. Loaded. Arrival. Weeds. More Weeds. Mowed! This may be of interest to some... Me and dad went for go with his SMS-425 mower yesterday, first proper go with it because we really need some proper hay grass, but thought we would try it on the buttercups. We were surprised how well it cuts proper leafy grass although its bad to see on the video. The tractor performed well and the mower gearbox is now oil tight after replacing the oil seals, the seals had dried out after all these years and due to the mower had never cut grass in anger before. well we finally completed other than a decal kit for my Johnson loader its not bad but we had paint issues but it looks good from 20' but here she is see what you think?

Disregard the beer can in the bed of the truck, it is some sort of photographic artifact that shows up whenever I mow. Strangely though, it happens regardless of which camera I use.

I do not know if there are different specs. for each engine, but the K series Kohlers require that you engage the clutch, then place a .012" feeler gage between the clutch brake and pulley face, then adjust and tighten the brake.

Mounted tombstone weight on my 701

Hope Martin and Kelly aren't watching! They are the Resto magicians! I was just going to leave the rusty metal as is but spray bombed the engine tin and decided to do the tin. not a frame off as it's still a worker. While the running boards/belt cover and side panel are decent. The hood and fender were really dented and pitted. found a $10 fender that actually came off a workhorse and was painted black...(disregard other items that the guy was selling) into the E-tank! The recycle bin was a perfect fit All primered up. looking for a hood at the big show. I never used a paint sprayer and don't have a compressor. gonna find someone with skills and equipment in exchange. I did find that Ace Rust stopper Ford Grey is a dead ringer for the Work Horse as it had a ever so slight green undertone. no 2 stage paint for this worker!

Here you go....I cheaped out on the lug nuts...stole them off an old jeep....pretty common size....and a caved the hub cover putting it on.... I was up all night tending the smoker so I finished up the hub conversion.....so what is in the smoker???? Deer roast.....Pork shoulder.....beef brisket (trying for the first time....looks like it will be tasty).....

FINALLY!! After three years, I've picked up a second horse for my small stable ... I've been lurking for the last few months searching for one of the larger units. I really wanted to find a 520 with the big 60" Deck but just ... the price...That much be GOLD under that red paint!! Ended up settling for a 418-A. I think I'll feel better sticking with a Kohler. I'm working on uploading the auction pic(s) now .. There is a missing Decal I'll have to get, and the light buckets are Spray bombed white ... it needs a seat, and I'm sure a very thorough tune up! Any Tips/Tricks/Need to know info?? Pictures! Enjoy!

I'm redoing a 1969 Raider 12 I bought recently, and I want to put some tri-ribs on the front of this thing. I've found some 4.00x8 tires cheap, and the rims measure 3.75" inside the beads. Will these tires work on my rims?

I found that every once in a while take the linkages and plates off the trans and clean everything good, then put it back together Grass gets in there and prevents full movement. When tightening that adjustment locking bolt, I turn the adjuster a little counter clockwise to compensate for the movement from tightening. The violent actions sounds like you may have too much tension on the plate. Maybe loosen it a bit see if that helps.

As a kid growing up here in the Midwest in the 1950's Memorial Day was a great event, much more than today. Every small town in the country spent the whole day honoring the men who fought in WWII and Korea. Everyone in town would go to the cemetery for the ceremonies and bow their heads in memory for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of freedom. Towns had parades like today but they also had a town wide picnic with games for all ages. It seems today people just go through the motions but with so many who never served the real emotion is not there. I was from that Viet Nam era where being a Veteran was not warmly greeted on the home front. The turmoil of the late 60's and early 70's changed the way some viewed Memorial Day. Thank God opinions have moderated a bit but there are many who think it's a time to protest and I'll tell you I get damned mad when I see it on my TV. Like those who stood there with signs and banners when out brave were being carried off planes to be sent to their final resting place. Luckily they are a minor group. It makes this Vet proud when you see those that come home and honored with an escort of Vets, police, relatives and even the slanted members of the news media Thank you all who have served and are continuing to guard our freedoms from those who would take them away.

Boy.... I could not be happier with this purchase! Think I hit a home run with her.... Mowed with it last night and not only did it leave a nice flat cut, ran so smooth... Perfect!! Let the kid finish the front property, told him to head to the stable to put it in its new stall, looked at the back and saw the gas tank was wet on the left of it, yelled at him to shut it down to check it out.... Turns out the gas cap has a crack on the face of it. Gas spewing out of it. Hosed her down good, wiped it down good and put her away. Guess gas cap gets added to shopping list next week. Think I'm gonna run those belts till they break, get my money out of them, but I'll have some new ones hanging nearby next week. Pic of Kyle mowing yesterday... Did go home and mowed with my 416 and could feel the differences in the two models. Onan roar over the heavy thump of the Kohler..... I like them both. Softer ride with the bigger tires on the 416. Now I have to keep reminding my self to give the 8-25 some needed seat time, so she gets mowing duty next to give the 416 a break next time.... God I Love owning multiple WH's!!! James, many of the allies saved one another regardless of the soil they were on or the nation of origin. Memorial day is universal and I want to remember the British military members who saved my uncle in WWII. This isn't just an American holiday.

Country roads, take me home! Nice truck, farmette and tractor...just need a dog to complete the picture!

that is how the intake is designed from the factory. the carb gets its air supply through the blower housing, if all the seals on the air cleaner are there and the intake tube is in place the only way the engine should get air is through that tube......

Hello people of RedSquare. I went to the Hertfordshire county show today and it got me thinking as i was walking around seeing all the big boy tractors, WERE ARE THE RED ONES! and i was really shocked to not see a single wheel horse or lawn tractor, so I'm proposing that for the next country show nearish me is the beds country show and i would really like to organise a gathering of our tractors to promote RedSquare and show off our wheel horses. Now of course i need as many people on my side as possible so i ask you guys now, who could come and display there wheel horses at either the next Bedfordshire county she or the Hertfordshire country show next year. just to clarify. the teeth on the leading edge have a bevel and that is what goes up or away from the starter. this is what 'meshes' with the flywheel. i can't comment on whether they are being put on right or wrong as there are no pics to show either. i do know the pic i showed of mine above was installed correctly, the gear had just worn out from old age...... just make sure you use an oem gear, the flywheel teeth all look good and you install the gear the correct way. the bevel on the gear teeth needs to contact the flywheel first when the starter throws out to mesh with the teeth on the flywheel...... this side faces out from the starter motor...... this side goes against the starter motor.....

Thank You to all who served and their families. My Dad fought in the Korean war. About ten yrs. ago his unit had a reunion and I met many of the guys I had heard about. Highlight of the summer. Several of those men are gone now. Had an uncle in the Navy that was at Pearl Harbor. He is gone as well. I hope I instilled in my kids the sacrifices made by some so all can be free. The problem is your putting them on wrong or the person who had it first put it on wrong most people see the indented shoulder at the bottom and put it facing down when it should be facing up towards the flywheel

navy. 67-73. last two years reserve. enlisted after getting drafted, not a good year to be drafted. odd thing is i never saw a ship. hunted ussr nuke subs from an island in the carib.. someone had to do it. will go visit my 91 year old mother that was a ww2 vet, also in the navy. enjoy the day. no mowing if you can help it, just relax.

We always had a parade with bagpipers and Shriners and school marching bands and fire trucks. I grew up in a village of 5000 and most of us would line up on the sidewalks, with lawn chairs or just standing to watch. the The parade ended at our village library where there was a small monument and flag. The local American Legion honor guard would be there. Someone would say a few things on a PA and the Legionnaires would fire a salute. Then everyone would go across the street to the Harry Clifton Post for hot dogs and soda. I was born in '65. These memories are from the 70's. Good times. I am not sure that there is even a parade in my hometown anymore. It's almost like no one gives a crap anymore. Was it because WW2 was still so big in everyone's minds? Or turmoil of the hippie 60's crap was over? Or because the bicentennial was huge? Or a combo of it all. My kids are missing out on a lot and I really don't like that.

Take a good look at the block, below the holes where the starter bolts on. Kohlers are notorious for cracking the block there when the rod lets go. That will be aluminum on the crank journal, once its been removed you can get a measurement to see if it needs grinding. I use the "wrong" side of 320 grit emery tape to polish cranks - use the non abrasive side with WD40.

do not use emery cloth on the crank get a bottle of muriatic acid it will remove the alum and not harm the crankshaft Brian

Hey, welcome to the group! I have a C-161 as well as a C-101... Have you cleaned the fuel pump, they can get grotted up, plus it's a long way to pull fuel... Is the vent hole open in the fuel cap? Btw glad you made it over - I think you mailed me a week ago Mark

I too grew up in the 1950's, and the Memorial Day parade was quite the big thing. Granted, when I was five, WWII had only been over for 10 years, so it was still fresh in the minds of our parents and relatives. Everyone then had someone who served or even died in battle. As a child, when the American flag went by, if I did not take my hat off and place my hand over my heart, I got whacked in the back of the head. The sound of a marching band and the sight of the flag being paraded down the middle of the street today still stirs a feeling in my heart, and chills run down my spine. Patriotism was instill in us as kids, but nowadays, kids are being taught something entirely different, It makes me sick. Thanks to all who made that ultimate sacrifice. I will be forever grateful.

Work is progressing. The chassis is completed. I am waiting on fittings for the gas line, bought a straighter saddle to install, and started stripping the hood. I need to finish this so I can get back to my non-starting 520-H. Also just like WH tractors, I have a line on another DB. Ya' can't stop at ONE! When Allstate mean't more than insurance

Good luck with the Mobil 1. Personally I'd stick with the Pennzoil, I've been using it for many yrs. myself with no issues. I tried out Mobil 1 on a fleet of seven S-10's security trucks I used to maintain. These trucks ran almost 24/7 at slow speeds mostly. The oil levels were checked at least once every few days and more often than not the oil level would be down a few quarts. ( no leaks) Within a few months this was enough to convince me to switch back to Pennzoil and the dissappearing oil issues were resolved.

Well, I got wheelhorse back together, had to back track cpl times, but I got it fired up. Ran like a champ till I noticed oil seaping out air filter. Fixed that and now it is running awesome. First time I had to work on it , and it has brung me closer to the tractor. So I cleaned it up and here are a few pics as promised. One more )

Well Paul....the 5 bolt low speed hubs for 1" spindles are cheap...less than 10 bucks....there are high speed hubs w/4 bolts but they are more pricey....like 20 bucks....

I bathed her with some fresh new oil today.

Also had a visitor over night. Our grand daughter Lyla. First night away from her Mom.

Finally tagged the back of my C-175's steel replacement fender today... used another one of those 30 year old NOS decals that many say "just won't work".

Here she is! The finished product! Thanks for all the compliments guys, keeps me motivated! Next project will be a 42" side discharge if anyone is planning to restore a deck and has questions just shoot me a PM! I have learned a ton after doing a couple of these!
