Thanks to fellow member Shawn, aka Cutlas3391, I finally got my elusive black hood. I traded my GT-14 for a 1984 C-165. I think that she looks awesome. She is in pretty good shape and just needs a good cleaning, fresh gas and tune up. Shawn is a helluva guy and I just want to thank him again! Thanks bro! My plans are to give her a 10 foot resto; looks fine from 10 feet but not perfect up close. We are talking rattle cans and elbow grease! She will definitely be a worker.

Thanks guys, the Birthday wishes are much appreciated. I didn't do the egg hunt but the Grand daughter kicked some Easter bunny tail. This Birthday is kinda of unique as it also comes with the Easter Holiday as this has only happened once before in 2003 other than that the previous to that would have been 1930. The next time it happens will be 11 years in 2025. After that it will be something like 2087 I doubt if I make that one. Talked with my Mom today and she told me I was born the day before Easter in 1957. 4/20 is a Special day!!!

Please do not take this the wrong way...I have been following some of your threads...I have to say...you have picked the right avatar. Obviously, the right thing to do (so you might make it to 30 years old) is to shut it down before you dismount that horse. That is the right thing to do.

I picked up a nice set of these and everything that goes with them.

Finally tagged the back of my C-175's steel replacement fender today... used another one of those 30 year old NOS decals that many say "just won't work".

I thought I logged into the "My Little Pony" website this morning! Had to go back to my Bunn unit and threw another scoop into the filter and start over!

Alright guys to conclude this discussion- I adjusted the chain to a higher notch on the lifting arm so that when raised the deck will be up tight against the stops (so it rides correctly in the up position now). When lowered it can still drop all the way to the ground to ride on the deck wheels. Something is definitely off but it should work just fine. Belts should arrive on Monday so I will install and give it a whirl.

Got to spend a little time on the ranger today....finally got it on all 4's again. Most of my time was in fixing previous mistakes of assembly...had to take the motor off again because I ran the oil drain on the wrong side, and also realized I put the dash on wrong again and its sitting a little sideways, but I think it will be ok..as there is a little play in the hood. Otherwise I basically have to take the whole tractor back apart which I really don't want to do even though I should. Found out my throttle cables don't match which was dissapointing when they came together as a set, so I will order one that will match the choke cable at a different date....anyways as far as good things I did get the belt guard, back wheels, fenders and started running the throttle cables. Here's a updated picture.

MY GT-14 RAN OVER ME WHEN I HIT THE GEAR KNOB WHEN GETTING OFF THIS WINTER. IT TOOK TWO TO GET ME OUT FROM UNDER THE TRACTOR. NOW I SHUT IT OFF BEFORE GETTING OFF. I AM TOO OLD TO DO IT AGAIN. RUSS

They look pretty easy to make, Craig. If you want measurements or better pics let me know.

I' m with Dino on this one ... I always shut my horse down when I dismount, just to avoid the chain marks you stated...

Ok, I'll bite, know I'm still new, what are they? Not makin' fun of your find, just don't recognize, as in guessin' even eludes me! I know I'll admit "oh shaw" when you say for what/why intended or fabed.

If I can still shift it with a stubby stick, thats probably the simple most foolproof way. That thing can be hit by more than getting off the tractor. I can always repair the stick and weld it back together if not. A parking brake would also be hand on hills. Did they put them on the 855/856? Maybe I can retrofit one on from a different year. Drifting is also a problem in some places. I made it to 48 so far. lol

I wasn't quite sure what was going on either. I though my wife went to a Care Bears website for some unknown reason then I see my name. I panicked thinking I was sleep surfing the web.

Thanks fellas! I am so excited to have her. Right now she won't run due to bad gas but heck that's no problema for sure. Hopefully within the next two days I can really clean her up and hear that 16 horse run!

Didn't spend a whole lot of time on the ranger today, but got the wiring done, and hooked the motor up and put the dash decal on. Also found a bronze bushing in my NOS parts that worked perfect so I spend most my time tearing it back apart to get the dash back off. lol. Not a whole lot left to do on it, will probably have to work at the farm tomorrow, but I think I can for sure have it going on sunday. Here's a couple more pictures.

You're way ahead of me James ... my teardown is complete ... and my first step of rebuild is just finished ... since I'm doing man 18" frame stretch, the first thing I had to do was stretch the drive manifold. Got it back from the welder today ... all set for install, but the frames not ready yet!! Will connect these halves with soft line once they are in place.

My late 1960's troy-bilt leaves a much nicer finish than the C81 with tiller Plus it is a lot easier to use in a fenced in garden. (Incidentally it has a Tecumseh and starts on the 2 or 3 pull after sitting for months at a time....

Nice B100! I am new to collecting Wheel Horse. I bought a 76 B80 for $350 and added some Ag tires and some hubcaps and repainted the rims. The only problem I have is it the battery is not charging. any help on what I can do?
  46. 1 point
Started in welding on the worse rim so I fired up MR.TIG and first started with the holes that were seen in the rims. Next were the large craters caused by the chloride (that's stuff should be outlawed) after that I went after all the small craters. Before I finished I used 5 sticks of filler rod. I ran the tig torch slowly over all the bad areas and a couple burn through's occurred so I filled them. I feel confident that I have enough material and have brought the rim thickness back up where it should be. I then spread in some Lab Metal time will tell how this product performs so far I like what I see. Here are some pics. ~Duke

Making some more progress. tranny is back together and painted and I got all the hubs and pulleys back on. Motor is also painted, just have to put it the rest of the way together. Just have to get my wheels powdercoated and buy the rest of the little stuff I need so I can start putting it back together! Thanks, Jake

I couldn't agree more with Puddlejumper. I just rebuilt a K-181 in an afternoon and had it in the tractor and running the next morning. I'm used to rebuilding big blocks and have done a few 181's, but they were for other people, so this is the first one for me. The only "problem" I'm having is getting used to how easily it starts! It runs like a clock and only sips gas (unlike the larger horsepower engines). Just rebuild (or have someone else do it) the motor and you'll be happy again. The cost of rebuilding a K-181 is less than a new motor and, if taken care of, should last many times longer than any replacement engine. That's all I have to say about that.
  50. 1 point
Spend your money fixing the k181 (right) Not just good enough for now. If you cant do it pay somebody to do it. Theres no reason it shouldnt start almost immediately when you hit the key. Even the pull start 181s start on a half pull most of the time. Its a tough little engine to beat and simple to maintain. If its wore to the point boring and reringing isnt a option used blocks are not that hard to find.
