10 pointsI know not a wheelhorse, but he thinks it is and he is in heaven.

4 pointsThanks to fellow member Shawn, aka Cutlas3391, I finally got my elusive black hood. I traded my GT-14 for a 1984 C-165. I think that she looks awesome. She is in pretty good shape and just needs a good cleaning, fresh gas and tune up. Shawn is a helluva guy and I just want to thank him again! Thanks bro! My plans are to give her a 10 foot resto; looks fine from 10 feet but not perfect up close. We are talking rattle cans and elbow grease! She will definitely be a worker.

3 pointsThanks guys, the Birthday wishes are much appreciated. I didn't do the egg hunt but the Grand daughter kicked some Easter bunny tail. This Birthday is kinda of unique as it also comes with the Easter Holiday as this has only happened once before in 2003 other than that the previous to that would have been 1930. The next time it happens will be 11 years in 2025. After that it will be something like 2087 I doubt if I make that one. Talked with my Mom today and she told me I was born the day before Easter in 1957. 4/20 is a Special day!!!

3 pointsPlease do not take this the wrong way...I have been following some of your threads...I have to say...you have picked the right avatar. Obviously, the right thing to do (so you might make it to 30 years old) is to shut it down before you dismount that horse. That is the right thing to do.

2 pointsI thought I logged into the "My Little Pony" website this morning! Had to go back to my Bunn unit and threw another scoop into the filter and start over!

2 pointsAlright guys to conclude this discussion- I adjusted the chain to a higher notch on the lifting arm so that when raised the deck will be up tight against the stops (so it rides correctly in the up position now). When lowered it can still drop all the way to the ground to ride on the deck wheels. Something is definitely off but it should work just fine. Belts should arrive on Monday so I will install and give it a whirl.

2 pointsGot to spend a little time on the ranger today....finally got it on all 4's again. Most of my time was in fixing previous mistakes of assembly...had to take the motor off again because I ran the oil drain on the wrong side, and also realized I put the dash on wrong again and its sitting a little sideways, but I think it will be ok..as there is a little play in the hood. Otherwise I basically have to take the whole tractor back apart which I really don't want to do even though I should. Found out my throttle cables don't match which was dissapointing when they came together as a set, so I will order one that will match the choke cable at a different date....anyways as far as good things I did get the belt guard, back wheels, fenders and started running the throttle cables. Here's a updated picture.

1 pointHi all, Just jumped into the world of wheelhorses - i'm looking to pick up a 95 520H next week probably. I picked it up from someone that referenced this site, but i don't know if he is a member here. Paul and i reached a good deal on the tractor, the 48" deck and a snow blower (with weights and chains). i'm pretty excited. I still want to pick up a tiller for it, and probably the correct size wheels (these are slightly narrower than the "stock" ones.) i've been reading and researching garden tractors for a few months now and have come to the conclusion that this is pretty much exactly what i need (except i want a 60" deck, and a front end loader, and and and.. ) enough about the boring stuff, here are a few pictures! Thanks for hosting and providing support to all of us newbies. hopefully in a few years i'll be able to share my experiences as well!

1 pointSo Denny, what happened to the no more projects for a while? sounded too good to be true!!!!! so tell us about the 'other' parts that attach to the pieces in the first pic?
-
1 pointOnce in awhile when I wash them, I will use some of that spray wax on the hood.
-
1 pointMy new C-175 came home with me this past fall. Was out aerating today, appears he was pretty happy to be doin' it too.
-
1 pointIt has been awhile since I have had one so I maybe wrong but isn't the circled item your parking brake?
-
1 pointIf I can still shift it with a stubby stick, thats probably the simple most foolproof way. That thing can be hit by more than getting off the tractor. I can always repair the stick and weld it back together if not. A parking brake would also be hand on hills. Did they put them on the 855/856? Maybe I can retrofit one on from a different year. Drifting is also a problem in some places. I made it to 48 so far. lol

1 pointthats a good thread Bob, with decent pics of how to do it. i get all wrapped up in getting things done and forget to take pics until I'm almost finished...... i picked up the bearings from motion industries......

1 pointWasn't there a time when Wheel Horse was having problems sourcing Kohler engines due to a strike or something like that so they temporarily switched to the Tecumseh engines?

1 pointI believe he is pushing up daisies, similar to the ones shown on the new design of the forum today.

1 pointI wasn't quite sure what was going on either. I though my wife went to a Care Bears website for some unknown reason then I see my name. I panicked thinking I was sleep surfing the web.

1 pointThanks fellas! I am so excited to have her. Right now she won't run due to bad gas but heck that's no problema for sure. Hopefully within the next two days I can really clean her up and hear that 16 horse run!

1 pointUpdate. I finally got back to the 857 this weekend. I have stripped the Majic paint off of the engine and it is ready for some real paint. I purchased some Van Sickle IH red, but I don't like the color, or the fact that it is an alkyd enamel. I thought I was getting acrylic enamel, but I failed to be specific when ordering, so my bad. If you are interested, it is in the classified section and on eBay. Anyway, today I power washed the frame and then decided to replace all the seals in the transmission. There was an extreme amount of oil and dirt and grass caked to the bottom of the tranny, and only about a quart of oil drained out, so I figured there must be a leaky seal. So, I got out the hub puller and started to remove the left hub which I suspected had the bad seal. Now usually the hub that has a bad seal behind it come off fairly easily, but nooooo. This one fought me until it broke. So, now with 1/3 of the hub broken off, the puller became worthless. It took 2 hours or sawzall and chisel work to bust the rest of this little baby off. The right side was also tough, but came off in one piece. No leaky seal found, and now I need a good 4996 hub. Monday I will remove the brake drum and input pulley. Back to the paint situation. Since this one is going to be my "toy" and not a show queen, I have finally decided to paint it with PPG Shop-Line acrylic enamel. This paint has much better coverage than the urethane, and at only $33.00/qt. it's a lot more economical. Picking it up on Monday, and if the weather stays nice for a while, I might even get the frame, transmission and engine painted this week. More to follow. Should have some pictures in the next update.

1 pointAWSOME doesn't do it justice, but inquiring minds have to know, are you positive that it's not a HOLDER with some body and paint work? it sure looks like a production machine and I can't wait for a chance to see it in person. I'll say it again AWSOME BUILD
-
1 pointYou're way ahead of me James ... my teardown is complete ... and my first step of rebuild is just finished ... since I'm doing man 18" frame stretch, the first thing I had to do was stretch the drive manifold. Got it back from the welder today ... all set for install, but the frames not ready yet!! Will connect these halves with soft line once they are in place.

1 pointMy late 1960's troy-bilt leaves a much nicer finish than the C81 with tiller Plus it is a lot easier to use in a fenced in garden. (Incidentally it has a Tecumseh and starts on the 2 or 3 pull after sitting for months at a time....

1 pointStarted in welding on the worse rim so I fired up MR.TIG and first started with the holes that were seen in the rims. Next were the large craters caused by the chloride (that's stuff should be outlawed) after that I went after all the small craters. Before I finished I used 5 sticks of filler rod. I ran the tig torch slowly over all the bad areas and a couple burn through's occurred so I filled them. I feel confident that I have enough material and have brought the rim thickness back up where it should be. I then spread in some Lab Metal time will tell how this product performs so far I like what I see. Here are some pics. ~Duke

1 pointGot the motor back together today with the help of a friend. Just have to paint it and put it back together the rest of the way. I still haven't ordered tranny parts so that will probably wait until Thursday. Getting really close on this project! Thanks, Jake
-
1 pointThese got dropped off today. A new carburetor and electronic ignition kit should come soon. I need to get this darn thing finished!
-
1 pointwell here are some pictures of the trans. I haven't made any progress on the motor yet. The trans is really nice on the inside....all gears and bearings look good. But I am still going to change the bearings just to be safe. I took apart the differential to clean it but had it back together before I took the pictures. Everything has been soaked and cleaned up...I just need to bead blast the case, order some bearings, and put it back together. Maybe if I'm lucky I can have this one done in time for scotts meet and greet!
