Yikes !! is right. Here is how I hooked up a slot hitch on my 12 /8 spd. I bought 2 5/16" yoke ends from TSC. Then I went to Lowes and bought some cable, crimp ends and cut loose and bought the crimp tool. I crimped on an end ran it through the rear yoke and then through the tube. Slid on the front yoke figured out how long it had to be and crimped that one. Secured the yokes to the hitch and lift with clevis pins and clips.

well i was a trip to sweden to day and i went in to a liquor Store.. and geeeees i found TT's beer.. so i just had to buy a few boxes of it..

Is this the tire? One reason for there lack of use would have been cost.

Your wish is getting closer Ian - the air's much drier now so I've made a start and sprayed one side of the carts and end panel today. As soon as the paint has hardened enough I can turn them over for the other sides an then when the paint's ready for handling reassembly will begin. Thanks for all the positive comments guys, especially from a 'real fabricator'. For those of you thinking about taking the plunge I ought to mention that I've have no formal training in this line of work, only a limited range of equipment, I use a 140 amp stick welder I got way back in the 80s and a little gasless MIG I bought for doing body panels on cars. This is perhaps the most challenging project of its sort that I've attempted so I'd say take the plunge and have a go. Andy

The old saying in never put a saddle on a dead horse. that means the saddle goes on the cable going to the load, the dead end gets the ubolt, the clamps crush and weaken the cable when installed the wrong way, and slip easier also.

well as we all know the winter has been long and cold, so buying stuff has been limited for me, but now with the weather warming a little (it was 23 deg today) and snow melting, I'm getting calls from people wanting to sell stuff, this is a deal I picked up today, nothing great but still a good deal. Tractor needs a head gasket that is why the PO stopped using it, it has been spray bombed but don't look to bad from 5 feet, deck has been patched, but works. I havent ran the numbers yet but I know it's a 76 or 77 B-80 8 speed with 36" deck. This was the bonus part getting a box of goodies, blades, chains, PTO parts, deck parts, and more, a very nice homemade set of weights about 75lbs each, extra set of ag tires, weathered but good tread, the orig. rear tires and wheels and a mid grader, that we found digging stuff out of the barn. All in all a good deal, even though it was COLD and windy out.

Stevebo gave me a call that his cousin Toddbo was looking to sell his Commando 8. I really didn't know where this tractor would fit in with my collection but after thinking about it over night I decided to grab it. Besides it was only a two mile trip to Toddbo's place to pick it up! I decided to part ways with my 657 wood hauler. The Commando 8 has factory lights and a charging system with a battery, something the 657 lacked. Though the factory lights aren't the brightest they'll do when I need to clear snow at night with it. No need to light up the neighbor hood, just a few feet in front of me will do the trick. I'm only going to throw a new seat at it and call it done.

This is another load that was going to scrap. The man that I bought the load from inherited it from his brother who was pretty big on his Horses. He went to the big show every year and had several restored round hoods among other newer models. He had a pretty good parts stash too. To shorten up a long story the brother met a woman dropped everything and moved...to another country...So that left the guy that I bought this stuff from to clean out his brothers garage and put the tractors in storage. He is sorting out and selling some stuff and keeping a few tractors. Not being a Wheel Horse guy a lot of stuff was scrap to him,including this load of parts and the "all most" rolling 520 chassis. I plan to go back next weekend. I am trying to work a deal with him on 3 tractors,some early 60's Tecky's of Wheel Horse's and some other parts.

So how do you guys achieve that fine patina look on your old tractors? Got a good candidate here!

Patina is given to it through age and usage. To preserve it or bring it out a little more my preferred method is Stevebo's. Merely spray it with some light oil or WD-40 perhaps using a very fine Scotch pad (white) just to remove some of the grime without scratching it or removing the oxydation on the paint. Not only it will preserve it it will also accent the patina on it. on tractors that have paint at least 25 to 30 years old it really brings it out and preserves their character.

I know there was another thread about axle keys. It was mentioned that a # 22 1/4' x 1 3/8" flat bottom key was used. For information only. That key does fit into a axle out of a C 161 hydro. I have my 73 12 8 spd apart and that takes a # 15 1/4' x 1" flat bottom key . McMaster-Carr # 98525A170 for the high-strength key. Again for information only. Your mileage may vary!

The ones above are BF Goodrich Silvertown Turf Tires. They do have a very vintage and dated look to them that I really like, quite distinctive for sure.

Im not sure I would say deals in my area yet Kelly...my standard morning search of Wheel Horse, Wheelhorse and Toro on the local lists showed quite a few machines....from junkers that should be given away to a 520 with a 48" deck for $1300, about 5-600 too much as far as Im concerned due to the condition; and also a 516 with a single stage blower on it for $2200 ...I think some of these guys are asleep at the wheel and need a good shot to the head to recalibrate the system..... The 516 is nice but at that price he'll be sitting on it for a good long time before it sells at this time of year...its overpriced by at least a grand....I'll just keep my eyes peeled for a nice C-165 or 175 at a fair price

I'm a fan of turf tires..The only thing an Ag tire can do better than a turf as far as I'm concerned is pull ground engaging implements....Plows, cultivator, disc harrow etc. Other than that, turfs are the way to go for plowing snow, better on the grass for mowing, especially on soft ground...I also have a few sets of BF Goodrich Silvertown turfs on my nut roasters......

I might add that you have your cable clamps on upside down. They need to be reversed.

I am having trouble posting pics but here is the story of how I got the 875. In 1970 my parents moved out to a semi-rural area and our new neighbor had a Wheel Horse tractor that he used too mow and plow snow and I thought it was the coolest thing. He passed away and the family that moved in got the tractor with the house. The daughter got married and took the tractor with her when she left. Last week I was talking to the son, who still lives there, and he was telling me his sister was moving out of state and she was leaving everything behind and he had to get it out before the new owner took over and he mentioned she still had the Wheel Horse and he was going to scrap it with all the other stuff she left. I told him I would help load stuff up if I could have the tractor and that was fine by him, so for a sore back and a tank of gas I have the tractor I first saw when I was 12 years old.

Always best, when replacing ignition switches, is to pay the money and get the proper oem switch.

the 875 is a great little tractor. i picked one up a couple years ago. it now belongs to my son, Kent. we spent some time doing a full rebuild on it just recently..... heres how it looks now..... heres the thread on it and a little about when i first picked it up...... got any pics for us?

Shorts, being 5' 18" I was wondering if you ever played. I think you would have been a force to recon with. Maybe we can get a game of horse at Scott's M&G...since we can never get a camp fire there. On the lighter side...Duke (a #3 lost to Murser (sp))...that almost makes the tournament for me. March Madness...here we go. Nebraska, Iowa and Ohio St. are out...we still have Michigan St., Michigan and Wisconsin... I like Michigan St. to win it all...Wisconsin to be a final 4...Michigan is over rated, but I have thought that all year...

well its just four weeks old! what happens every year is my boy that shares my workshop calls the scrapman in about christmas time to get rid of what he calls quote" all that crap you have been saving for the last year" so this year i beat him to it and made this it consists of these parts front and rear axle-electrac mower back wheels-wheelhorse bonnet-mayfield merlin mudgards (fenders)- 40gal oil drum engine-deisel-from a water pump seat /steering wheel-old fergi tractor it wiped the smile of his face when 2 differant people have tried to buy it from me for good money and i would not sell it, cos when we do shows over here we always get the anaraks over here who know it all well ime going to enjoy it this year when they scratch there head and say my grandad had one of those on the farm in 1908 etc

well it is a pepper pot...... dad got to ride it earlier tonight as kent was enjoying washing the dishes. for somebody who hates this job, he spends a bunch of time messing around at the sink....... anyway, rode it around, runs nice, rear is a little noisy, not hydro but unidrive part of trans. also its leaking from the parking brake (fixed this once before) and i see its damp around the direction control on the pump. i think after this season i will pull the trans and do all the seals properly, also look at the final drive and axle bearings as well...... heres a bunch of pics of it out in the sun.... right now he is out there getting some seat time, might sneak out and get a vid in a moment.........

I attended the Show (this year) for the first time. After learning there was not an entry fee, and seeing first hand how much work and planning went in to putting on such an event, I became a proud member of the WHCC. I will encourage all RS members who attend the big show but are not members of the WHCC to support them by also becoming a member of their club.

In my opinion, someone that is a WHCC member but not a RS member feels threatened because of our "closeness" to one-another. Our forum has allowed this friendship, and ability to help one-another with questions/answers/parts and other WH related matter. My guess would be that if WHCC had a forum like RS, 75-80% of the RS members would be on WHCC also. I doubt that anyone from WHCC feels RS is taking over their show.....unless you guys around the campfire had too much fun!

thanks for the info guys. i am looking for an original one. and all the factory wiring was removed by the previous owner so it would be very easy to relocate as i re wire.

Finished up today with new tires 16 7.50 8 4 plys and new heavy duty bearings. Installed the rims Then installed the weights Now ready for the snow we are not going to get this year (its been a warm fall) I just refurbed the plow and added 2 link chains. If it gets real bad I will put the tall chute blower on. 75lbs on each rear tire and 55 each on the fronts. For a total of 260lbs of additional weight.
