6 pointsI just bought this tractor earlier this week. It was said to have a bad motor , major leaking, and needed a rebuild. The deck was just rebuilt 2 years ago with all new spindles , paint, blades , and reinforced. I have since fixed the leaking and have her runnin really well for the most part. Just a little miss when revving up to different RPMS. I got the engine back in today and presher washed the tractor. All gauges work and the hydro seams strong as well. Im looking forward to using this beast. It was garage kept all its life except for this winter because the PO bought a zero turn and had no room in the garage. I am glad he sold it , instead of leaving it rust away. Its safe to say I got an awsome deal considering the shape shes in and the engine now runs. What do you guys think... 3 pointsMorning Everyone, A few months back I brought this cart/trolley off a friend who had only used it as a table in his shed for years and not for it's real purpose, he had nailed a divan bed base to the floor to make it a little longer, when I caught eyes on it, i popped the question and asked how much would he let it go for... After a bit of thinking and discussion, we settled on a price and so be it I was then leaving and going home with this cart. So far all I've managed to do is sort out the hitch so it can be pulled behind the horse or cubcadet, and cut the floor, weld four corners in, and the tailgate latches, I now need to buy done nice wood for the front sides and back, make the tailboard up with the hinges, buy two new tyres as they are odd, and then paint, paint, paint, although I haven't quite settled on a colour yet... The wood will be stained, but I'm not sure of what colours to paint the frame, Yes... My welding isn't none to good, but it holds and once it's painted it should look alright.... 3 pointsUpdate. She is back together. She fired right up and NO leaks . So the crank brearing plate was loose and all I did was tighten it down. It also had the wrong size oil filter. I even went and bought a crank seal and bearing plate gasket today thinking I could not get that lucky. It does not leak a drop! Now I am left with a tiny little miss. I drained the old gas and put fresh gas in it today. Hopefully some running will fix the problem. If not , I will be opening her up anyway for a good tune up and clean up. I just don't have the time for a least a few weeks till my remodel is done for all that work. Thanks everyone

2 pointsI am going to look at a pond walk behind tomorrow and it comes with a modified snow plow, cultivator and land plow. I was wondering if the plow and cultivator would work with a wheel horse slot hitch? Also does anyone know fair market value for the tractor and implements? Tractor has replacement motor and runs but needs work.

2 pointsI picked up this 702 Wheel Horse Tractor last fall and I have decided to restore and keep the tractor. I will be selling the Sickle Mower that came with it. The tear down was done over the winter (did not take to many pictures of this). Began sandblasting and powder coating a couple weeks ago (pictures of this are on the way). I will also post pictures as I reassemble. Hope you enjoy. Donnie

2 pointsSo I logged onto craigslist this morning... just surfing... should have been working Did my usual Wheel horse wheelhorse search and I found a 314-8 (73449) with 169 hours.... original family owned it... for $500 Seat is perfect, everything works... just has that grass cutting patina on it... How do I spell SWEET?? Easy.. STEAL A WHEEL HORSE on a Thursday afternoon... Yes, I paid full price, didn't even try to negotiate.... Taking it home now to wash it.. (really needs that) and explain to momma what a smart guy she married... hope she listens just a bit before I get, "the look".. But hey, she benefitted all winter long from the plowing my '74 C-160 Auto did.... and this one is so quiet I might get her back to an occasional afternoon mow! --- that's about the best I can hope for from her in the afternoon anymore... Okay... had to share!

2 pointsI think they've cancelled spring up here this year..got 3 inches on the first day of spring and woke up to 10 inches this morn so far that equals 12 feet 8 inches here this year . wont be any daffodils in my yard for a while snow should melt just in time to start fallin again...lol

2 pointsSunrise red here - I was a big fan of Valspar til it died. I have found the Rustoleum to be very available - wally world, home depot... - inexpensive, comes in rattle can or bulk and I thinkis a pretty forgiving paint. Takes about 24hrs to handle, but really needs several days to dry dry and then is pretty bomb proof. Frankly I'm a bit surprised at the number of Rustoleums users here - wasnt long ago most of these would be TSC/Valspar users (including me) Here a couple of Sunrise red with almond wheels...

2 pointsThe Rustoleum Regal Red hasn't been hurt, damaged, or run at all when subject to a gas spill. I do prepare the surfaces (sanding 'n elbow grease) and find the Rustoleum holds up well. I always coat at least twice. I prefer the (I guess) deep red, Regal Red. Most always on the shelf at Home "Cheapo." Foot rests, heavy duty skateboard tape and new decals from the Vinyl Guy!

2 pointsRegal Red. Easy to work with, I use the rattle cans. Sometimes I coat with clear crystal after the Rustoleum Regal Red has dried for a few days..or longer. Foot rests get skateboard heavy duty grip tape. Great stuff!

2 pointsManaged to pick up a magnum 16 last night as an alternative to 'borrowing' the k series from my C-161. Very clean and tidy, high hours - from a Toro reel mower, but running and cheap.. 50 quid! It's still in the wheel well of my car.

1 pointHello all: I joined up because I have a K161 on a TroyBilt Rototiller. I have no idea how old this is. The ignition quit and I ran out of ideas to get it running. I finally broke down and took it to a service center and they told me that the repair(s) would cost $1100.00! Holy s**t! What were they going to do? needless to say, I picked the tiller up and brought it home. I started looking for parts and advice online, and I found Red Square. I signed up, made my first post in "Wanted", (new coil) and started reading posts. About 2 hours in, I found a 141, 161, 181 service manual, and a whole bunch of good advice on troubleshooting a reluctant ignition system. I did not know that the gap between the magnet and the coil is so critical, nor did I know that a .020 point gap is non-negotiable. I set the gap on both components and was rewarded with a spark! I spent a happy hour cleaning a gummy carburetor, added fuel, and it started on the third pull. Thanks for being here! Best example of "Seek and ye shall find" I have encountered in a very long time. You gotta LOVE the internet, and sites like this. Who knows,maybe I'll find a Wheel Horse that needs some Love and become a true believer. 1 pointAfter a few months of tinkering I was finally able to hitch up my rebuilt tiller to my trusty 310-8 today, worked great! Special thanks to Kelly for the dial-a-height and Dennist for the hitch, pulley, and input shaft. Tillers seem to be a bit rare in Missouri so I had to convert a RT-366 to work with the newer style tractor (hence the hitch, and input shaft). Can't believe how well these tillers work! Now that everything is in working order it will get tore down once more for a fresh coat of paint!

1 pointI have the same tractor in excellent shape with only 280 hours on the clock. She runs really strong. I recently took off all the "extra" sliding hardware under the seat and installed a new lower seat on just the "c" springs and the ride is much better with a lower center of gravity. Now you just need to change your avitar....

1 pointThere is supposed to be a 25 amp fuse in the main 12 volt circuit, so if you had a melt-down, I suspect you might find that the fuse has been jumpered. I don't know how good you are with a meter, but a simple tracing of the circuit is fairly easy. What Kelly said about having the correct switch is very important. That is why I asked about the year. The 1996 has an M14 engine with a magneto. It requires a different switch than the ones with battery ignition.

1 pointRustoleum Regal Red on mine too. Its not a bad paint but it does not compare to Automotive. I have not had a drying problem, but I find it will chip easy enough if not careful. I use spray cans and quarts shot on with a gun for the bigger pieces.

1 pointI want to first off thank all the folks here on this board for helping me with my project. My wifes grandfather passed away in 1989 and this tractor had sat in a pasture since the 70's. He purchased it new from the dealer and as some pictures show, he completely "farmerized" numerous pieces. He somehow installed a power steering pump, heat shields, and other items to just make it work. I was able to finish this project this weekend and give it back to a stunned mother-in-law and father-in-law. I tried to leave parts and pieces in original-ish form, but obviously had to fix others. You have all been so kind and generous with your time and answers. I have never worked on cars, or farm implements. I borrowed tools, asked questions, and for the first time in my life listened to advice. I am the epitome of someone who had never even heard of Wheel Horse 4four months ago. Sure there was some money spent, but this has been very fullfilling. My favorite parts were the heat shield that I was able to design to use her grandparents names, the id tag which is his birthday, and the engine tag that I had done so that it showed his DOB/DOD on it so nobody would forget. I told them the only rule was this has to be used, driven, played with, wrecked, fixed, used. It is not allowed to sit in the garage and looked at. I used rattle cans, so that if there is a scratch, we can just touch it up and put it out to be played with again. I will probably never own a Wheel Horse again, but I would like to think the knowledge you guys gave me, will stick with me. I feel like one of Ken's kids in the Tractor Club! Enjoy the pics. I have some before and afters, and a few of my wife back in 1975 playing on the tractor with her grandparents. There were plenty of tears shed yesterday when I unveiled it. I told them I just was going to get the engine to run, they had no idea. 1 pointThe vac needs to be hooked up to the short pipe with the elbow on the end. Not the long pipe reaching to the bottom of the bucket. The idea is to catch the dust in water before it makes it to the shop vac ultimately saving the bearings in the motor. Think of it as the classic rainbow vacuums. Sent from my Event using Tapatalk

1 pointEven the 1979 operator manuals and ipl's are different for the 01 and 02 and this happened to all but the C-111 8-spd and C-161 8-speed. The only automatics to use 01 and 02 are the C-161 Twin autos. In 1986 Toro took over and all model numbers got bumped up. I suspect the early was produced by Wheel Horse and the later by Toro and this is how they distinguish who made what. Garry

1 pointNice build quality Charlie I think in WH terms with two axles it would be a 'wagon'. Re colour, obviously its a case of each to his own. My personal preference is not to paint everything that's not actually WH in origin red. So my Agrifab cultivator stayed black and my spray boom (origin unknown) is yellow, a Westwood trailer stayed orange. I just think it looks more like the real world of big tractors where attachments aren't always by the manufacturer of the tractor. Just my Andy

Maybe we can get a game of horse at Scott's M&G...since we can never get a camp fire there. On the lighter side...Duke (a #3 lost to Murser (sp))...that almost makes the tournament for me. March Madness...here we go. Nebraska, Iowa and Ohio St. are out...we still have Michigan St., Michigan and Wisconsin... I like Michigan St. to win it all...Wisconsin to be a final 4...Michigan is over rated, but I have thought that all year...

1 pointLike Kelly, I also use automotive paints on most of my Restorations but in the case of this Suburban I figured why not use Rustoleum Regal red. Afterall, this was going to be my fun go to tractor that see's a ton of use (and it does) and at the time I really didn't care if it got scratches or faded in a few yrs. (and I still don't care) Whatever. After a full yr. since I painted it no fading and no scratches and anyone that sees it can't believe it when I tell them its Rustoleum. I've been using Rustoleum since my early teens, I'm almost 46 now so I have a pretty good idea of how to lay it on. The bottom line is you can spend ten times more for paint but if you don't know what you are doing it will still come out crappy but with a lot more money down the toilet...Kelly is our professional painter, I agree with him. For the money it is good paint.

Kohler Maybe a couple more and/or parts for more Snowblowers: Various blowers in all different conditions Mower decks: Many different conditions Hoping to have a few real good ones (42") that are ready to mow Snow plows: No long frames available but may have some springs, quadrants, angle levers, and some blades if I have room and there is interest. Currently working on some other deals and will update the list accordingly. Pictures will start to trickle in within the next couple of weeks. I believe my landscape trailer will be a "name your price" sale. I don't want any of it to come home......that means empty!!! I am willing to deal, so bring cash and let's have fun!

1 pointThat does look like a good tractor. I personally would try the $500 again, probably $600 max for me. It doesn't have the mower deck? It looks like it may have been painted and has a new seat, so if you can look at it and run it in person that would be best (to make sure the paint job is worth what they are asking, if that is in original shape thats even better yet). Check the oil, for smoke, easy to start (even though it was a rebuild), drives well, etc. So its worth it if its been done well, but sometimes pictures can be deceiving. Other than that the C series tractors are hard to beat for versatility and durability. The eight speed can make that 8hp do things you would never expect it to be able to do!

1 point50 out side os i checked out my 312-8 the forks were in line like they should be but when i took it apart i found that i had play i the shifter up and down i found out that the coller that the allien bolt titened down to had the role pin shered off put in a new role pin and it worked fine with the pin shered off that let the shiffter move down so the forkes were hiting in the space above the shiffting ball couldent move it enought to put it in gear thanks CHAZM without your help i wouldent have found the shered rollpin

1 pointI did it 24 years ago with a 16 Briggs Vanguard. Up graded to an 18 Briggs Vanguard in 2010. I did it on a 1977 C-120 you have a lot more room on the Black Hood. The only thing you need to get right is the the same height and location of the power take off shaft and pulley alinement. I bought both engines with the wiring it made it easier to change as it came with the Briggs switch. Put " Repowering Our 520H" in the search block above for a thread on a Honda repower.

1 pointNQS super stock around 50hp unlimited rpm. My "stock" twin is almost that runs in a @4500rpm class Neather runs less than 3rd high with upping the pullies. The twin will do 18- 20 pulling a 7000lb sled
