Just waiting for the tail of the storm with a few more inches to fall. I used the Ariens to clear most of it and cleaned up with the 518xi. I even had the C-105 out for a little exercise as well. Notice the sidewalk superintendent checking my work.

Just came in...thought I'd get a jump on it before I went into work. Wasted time and gas though...more snow fell in the hour I was out there, then was there before I started.

I'm tired of all this snow already, I don't mind the big storm's its all the little one's I'm tired of. I think its Steveasaurus's fault we are getting so much this yr.. He was complaining he had NO snow last yr. Rumor has it that this past fall he was caught in full head dress doing a snow dance with a bottle of Scotch in hand...

Don...you did not bulk up for winter did you??? Those few extra pounds can make the difference.

Ok. As promised. We got 10 inches. When I got the tractor out it was turning over to freezing rain / sleet. Wet and heavy. Here are some pics of my oldest Mike doing the action shots for dad. Glenn

Im ready to go…gotta make a fuel run tomorrow morning first thing but with 10-18 inches coming my way the 18 is gonna get its first major workout. I can't wait to get some time pushing the white stuff with it and give the Charger 12 a break

i I went to myTaiwanese doctor today for a check up. I gained 6 lbs from last time. He wasn't 't happy and I told him it was for plowing snow. He didn't believe me. I had to show him the picture of your avatar!!!

I encountered the same problem on my blower on the C-125A. I put washers around the flag arm until I got the height I wanted- right now 6 of them- I can take out or add washers as I need- Thanks-Al

IMHO... Toro didn't buy out Wheelhorse to promote Wheelhorse. To the contrary, the buy-out was to eliminate the competition.

Not to rub it in rdmanone...but I am going to plant palm trees here in Chicago this spring....the snow belt is moving south towards you. All it takes is a little shift in the earth's axis...and a small magnetic shift. Illinois is going to be the Sunshine State...

Dang it...you guys are having way too much fun. I want to be where it snows 8" and you have to get out there right now before it melts. Are you kidding me...this year...you have to get out there right when it is done snowing before the temp drops to minus 10 real temp. And guess what...it snows again every other day...not a lot...just enough to drive you crazy. The horses are getting fat from all the carrots and apples I am giving them to get them to start. Glad they are Kohlers . Although, I have to say...my tecky 3.5 Ariens has been great...but I am running out of Wisconsin cheese to dangle in front of it. I know I am sounding like I am complaining...I am not...this is one of the best/worst winters in my lifetime. I am going to make it...and I am going to remember this one like I do the blizzard of 1967...the snows of 1987...the cold of 1983/4. This kind of winter is the stuff memories are made of. Guys in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia...all of the snow belt. The memories of the horses going out and doing the thing they were meant to do 40+ years ago. Thousands with no power, but the horses started and cleared the snow. This is what it is all about...anybody can cut the grass. One other thing...NO BUGS!!! :) :)

I have been using my Lawn Ranger's STR-324 snowthrower all winter. I felt like the snowthrower did not have as much lift to it as was needed to easily move around to the next area to tackle. I was working in the street in front of the house and realized the snowthrower was too close to the ground -even when lifted all the way up. So I got out the manual for the STR-324 snowthrower ( Also Model 6-3211 in the implement manuals) and found that the original drawing listed a set or shaft collar of 3/4 inches to be placed on the Lift Flag for added left capability. I was surprised to see after putting the collar on the flag and lift rod that the snowthrower lifted almost 6 inches off the ground in the front of the tractor! This was about three times what it had been. The collar did not need to be set with the set screw and is probably less than a half inch wide but the use of the collar definitely raises the snowthrower more than not using one. I am not sure if this shaft collar is noted in other snowthrower/snowblower manuals made by Wheel Horse but I will make sure to use it from now on. I took sever pictures (no before shot without the collar but the snowthrower was about two off the ground) which help tell the full story. The Wheel Horse engineers really new what they were doing 50 years ago to be able to create this type of lift off of a less than 1/2 inch shaft collar! In this photo you can just see the shiny new collar above the black snowthrower chute handle : I recommend using one of these on your lift flag to help with your snowthrower if you have not already placed one on your tractor.

Frams are junk. Use Napa (Wix). I cut open an OEM Toro trans filter once. Nothing to write home about. Wish I took pics. If I ever get a hold of another used one I'll take them. Napa 1410 is a pure Hydraulic/ power transmission filter built twice better.

Terry, Thank you for the excellent pictures. I cleaned and verified everything from top to bottom and finally decided to just put it all back together correctly and see what happens. Due to an upcoming storm, which it just started snowing here in NE PA and we are suppose to get 10-12" tonight, I felt a rush to get this back together. I started the reassembly around 5pm est and just finished now. I took my time, used pictures I took and the manual that was shown to me. I cleaned everything and actually put it back together. Once the tranny was assembled, I started reassembling the tractor itself, taking my time cleaning along the way and making sure everything was correct. Long story short....the beast is back in business! Im excited that I put the tranny back together and it actually works. lol I believe there were some factors that contributed to what was happening but I believe the biggest was very old and low tranny fluid. Im glad I took the tranny apart because I was able to clean it properly and Im sure it appreciate the new fluid. I would like to thank everyone that gave me guidance on this project. I would not have had the courage to do it without the support. I joined the forum for a year because I wanted to give something back. I can say without a doubt that the old Wheelhorse tractors are unstoppable if taken care of. I actually think this summer I am going to disassemble and repaint, just because it deserves it. I attached a pic of the reassembled tranny and my beast ready to go tomorrow morning! I say bring on the some tonight as we are ready. Thanks again all!!!!

Like the title says, I played in the snow for the first time today. There was not really a need to plow as the snow is melting as quickly as it showed up, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to use the dozer blade. I put it on the tractor, but I am questioning whether I connected it to the lift correctly. I also noticed a problem with turning the blade which I will get to in a little bit. I figured out after making one pass that there is a learning curve with this whole plowing thing. Here is what I learned. 1. I know this isn't brain surgery, but I'm sure there has to be a perfect height to set the plow lift, instead of just letting it sit on the ground. 2. After running the first pass down the side of the driveway, it may have been a better idea to go down the middle so I don't have to push the snow back over what I have already plowed. 3. Being a 260lb guy helps, but I do think wheel weights or filling the tires with fluid would help. 4. Turf tires with out chains does not work very well. I did find some old tire chains under the seat of my dads pickup (the kind you have to strap on through the wheel). Even though I only had enough chains to put 3 pairs of chains per wheel, I could tell when they contacted the ground, they gripped really well, and I think having a full set of chains would give me plenty of traction. These little strap on chains were all I had. 5. I need to read more threads on chains vs ag tires, and wheel weights vs fluid filling Here are the pictures Driveway finished Had so much fun doing the driveway, I decided to do some of the neighborhood Project C100 in the snow Project 876 in the snow Thought it looked cooler with the lights on.

Here's a video of the C-105 cleaning up. Notice the frustration at the end of not having chains installed! I just hopped off and pushed it clear. The steel blade definitely cuts through better than the rubber edge on the 518xi's blade.

well its been a few days, I've been busy.... got a bunch of plated parts back........ so it was time to swap out some of the temporary stuff and start assembling parts. kept painting more black parts and also repainted the hood stand as i wasn't happy with it (to tell the truth here- the hood stand has been painted 4 times now since i started this build) i just wasn't happy with the shade of black and i also had an issue with some old powder that i had in storage for a few years. junk started appearing in some parts, so i ditched the box and started using our production supply at work. some of us guys that do a lot of personal work keep old inventory when its purged. sometimes it bites you using old stuff........ anyway, heres some more pics, its starting to go together slowly and I'm happy how its turning out so far..... steering all together... front tach-a-matic together with painted and plated parts. mid tach-a-matic together.... shifters painted and installed...... with new boot (part #3357) hood stand going on with replated hardware...... front axle and steering from above..... upper hoodstand on to check fit, needs to come off so upper steering shaft can be installed. i got it bolted on as it leaves less parts for me to kick around on the garage floor.....

Heres part 2 of the snow team…my 1973 18 Automatic with a 60 inch blade... Its at my Dads right now because we just finished fabbing the the plow linkage and installed the factory front wheel weights but I plowed 7 inches with it yesterday and it was like it didnt even know it as there. I wish I could have gotten it to the farm here with 14 inches of snow coming,[attachment but the Charger 12 will have to clear the half mille driveway

I guess I just joined the snow throwing club. I finally got my parts in for the blower. Its nice a quite and doesn't sound like a coffer grinder anymore. The darn thing throws it over thirty feet. That's plenty for me and if to wet I can plow it with the gt14. Kyle

Hi All, In Vermont, all we need is snow Here's our fleet of snow equipment, we're ready for anything! I just repainted the hood on the C-85 and I'm really happy how it turned out. I used PPG paint with a hardener. The Vinyl Guy was a super help in getting the decals. I plan on doing more painting in the spring after it warms up some. C-85

First time I've ever used seafoam. I've noticed it running better, but it still has a long way to go before I'm happy. Stayed back at work tonight and got the wheel weights powdercoated. Also decided to paint the bracket that holds the front of the seat pan and gas tank in place, it was a little rusty and we can't have any of that nonsense. I think the silver is fairly close to the wheel color.

van, im liking the 416 even with all its little quirks. all the safety switches and electrical are driving me nuts. nothing that a good wiring makeover wont take care of though. i guess i cant get away from onans either, been messing with a few engines the last 6-8 months and while i appreciate all the engineering built into them, i like the simplicity of the kohlers and especially the cheaper parts. always liked the looks of these tractors, but weren't coming across any when it was buying time and then just recently this one came up. i think this one will be a keeper, its going to get a few mods and some work done on it, but first i need to sort out all the adjustment and electrical issues. still undecided if it will get a teardown and shine up though. pulled the deck after finally prying my wife off it and hooked up one of the blades i have. all ready to push a bit of snow now....... got a set of chains with it as well so if needed i will put them on too.....
