5 pointsThought I better brace up the roof over my sun room. There is 8" of heavy snow from last Monday and 1" of ice from last Wed., and 14" forcast for tonight. If this doesn't hold it up, I'll go to plan "B" Plan "B" 1. call the insurance company 2. kick back and wait for spring

4 pointsWell I had to dig a part of a auto 18 wheel horse tractor I thought it would be a cool picture take of the boneyard. hint this would be a great candidate pocture for next year's 2015 calendar. Thats about 2 feet of snow out there....Cant wait for spring

3 pointsScored a good cab yesterday on Craig's List! good fabric, one cut in the plastic window, one missing bracket. but not bad for a buck and a half So it wasn't to bad out after work I decided to see how it fit on my 417A blower tractor. Didn't fit at all! The frame was welded together and noticed it was way to short. So I cut the up rights and added 3" to the rear and 5" to the front. Why would some one want it to be shorter? All I could come up with is it didn't fit in there shed. Oh well it is working for me the way it is tell spring when I make a new frame with a glass front window. It has made snow blowing so much nicer!! Can't believe I waited this long to do this. It's know enjoyable to use this tractor in the winter!!! I always hatted to blow snow as I new I was going to be a snow man when I was done, but know after giving it a test drive with the cab on, I was nice and dry, and actually much warmer too.

3 pointsGetting in and out is a chore indeed. Especially if you are a short old fat guy like me. The older smaller style is especially tough and if it is a manual it's even tougher. The new style that are a Little bigger are not much better. I think it's harder to try and get out of one after you have been in there for a long time and your stiff and cold. They are a great measurement to how old your getting. Each year seems to be just a tad more challenging. Still even with the challenge of getting on and off I would not trade it for the world. There is no comparison to blowing or plowing snow with one on. No snow in the face or down the neck= PRICELESS! Oh yeah, if you have been plowing or blowing snow for a few hours and you become stiff and you try and get out and the tractor is still running and it's a manual, you might just bump the gear shift because you can't raise your leg high enough. This can happen I assure you. There you will be one leg on the ground one still stuck up in the tractor and away you go. Not a pretty picture of a short fat guy being drug out of the garage hanging out of the tractor heading for the first snow pile. No not a pretty picture at all.

3 pointsIts not the snow that needs to stop...Its the sub ZERO temps we are having!!! Love the snow.

3 pointsAluminum foil to clean them and wax to keep them. Do a youtube search for using foil to clean chrome. I was surprised how well it works and it works without leaving scratch marks. here's one video but I just use water. Haven't tried the Coke or Vinegar yet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkHyARsjNEg I use this method for cleaning chrome handles on old O&R tools

2 pointsDid you ever think about a couple of these? About $46 from Home Depot. Use them until after the snow is gone, then take them back and get your money back. I do it all the time when replacing porch posts on peoples houses. The manager at Home Depot suggested the scheme to me a couple of years ago. He said that as long as they are not damaged when they come back, there is no problem.

2 pointsDave, It's working great, I've used it quite a bit this winter. Last Friday I used it for several hours at one of our local cemeteries clearing snow for a funeral, never missed a beat. Sure glad I have the six speed tranny, it really helps with just 8H.P.

2 pointsNot to rub it in rdmanone...but I am going to plant palm trees here in Chicago this spring....the snow belt is moving south towards you. All it takes is a little shift in the earth's axis...and a small magnetic shift. Illinois is going to be the Sunshine State...

2 pointsWell I stopped in at the local TSC (only a 1/2 mile away) and found this pedal tractor on clearance. It looked nice, but I new Terry could make it look great! This will be given to my son on February 21st for his birthday. He is going to LOVE it! Here is what it looked like when I bought it....... And after with a little of Terry's magic....... I can't thank him enough for his willingness to help make this present even more special.

2 pointsSorry, too far from the show to make it. Here is a picture of just one shelf of "stuff" the other side of the shed has a larger shelf that is also filled up. I also have shelves full of parts and engines in my shop.

2 pointsQuestion to all you cab guys. Me being as nimble as a telephone pole, I struggle getting on and off a Horse as it is with Carharts and big boots on. How the heck do you get in and out of those things?????

1 pointHi Guys, I am new to the forum so please excuse my ignorance in where to post. I have used the search function trying to find a re-power alternative to my Wheel Horse "Air Horse" tactor / aircraft tug. I did not find what I was looking for so I am asking for some help. This is probably the best aircraft tug available today and I want to save it instead of selling it. It has a KT-17 and hydro drive. The hydraulic pump also drives the wheel lift and steering. I have not been able to make the KT17 run properly since purchasing it. I have changed the plugs, rebuilt the carb and set it according to the manual, changed the fuel filter, etc. Basically, it will not run unless the choke is on and then it runs poorly requiring varing choke and throttle positions. I either need to have an expert go through the engine and make it right or re-power it with something modern. I need reliability as this is used to move many aircraft on a tight schedule. While I am mechanically inclined, I just don't have the time to tinker with it right now. I would greatly appreciate a recommendation of a shop that could fix what I have or re-power this machine for me. I am not afraid to spend money on it and want it correct. I would prefer to take the whole machine to a shop and have it repaired at their shop. I live in NE Indiana (Auburn) and would be willing to travel 100 miles or so. Thank you in advance for your help!

1 pointHello Guys, I haven't been making any post because I haven't been doing anything with my machines for a while now! However I thought I'd come back with some fabulous news! I'm now an uncle. However it wasn't expected so soon, the little man is 5 weeks early, my sister had to have an emergency C- Section due to pre eclampsia and the baby's heart beat dropping! He was born yesterday (11/2/14) at 3:28AM weighing only 3lbs 8oz, he is making a full recovery, both my sister and him are fine! He is breathing on his own, and only needs a tube every other feed and they say at this rate it won't be long before they are both home! His name is Tyler. Let's hope he finds a place in his heart for wheel horses when he's older Shortly after he was born Later on in the day!

1 pointI used a walk behind 2 stage Ariens sno thrower for over 30 years before deciding to switch to a rider and plow. I have watched countless videos of guys using throwers with WH tractors and virtually every single one I have ever seen the rooster tail of snow coming from the machine is thrown in a high arc say 30-40 or so it appears in the videos. I am always curious, is it possible to adjust the trajectory of the discharge shoot lower? Or is it a case where that is not an option with the WH blowers? I ask this question because I always found with my old Ariens the lower I aimed the discharge chute the better. By that I mean I was always mindful of where I was discharging the snow but I quickly learned that while the 30-40 foot rooster tail looked mighty impressive I did not like all of the blowback of snow that I ended up wearing when I had the chute adjusted like that. I found that keeping the stream of discharged snow as low as possible kept the snow from turning me into a snowman. So tell me what the scoop is on the huge rooster tails I always see in the videos fellas. Really just curious, not meaning to be critical I am just that curious about this.

1 pointGood News Charlie!. Glad all is well . Just make sure those Wheel Horse Tractor pictures are plastered all over his Cot and Walls .
-
1 pointNice score! I don't see these around here for less than half what you paid and they aren't in that condition. I keep looking though! I wouldn't doubt that the PO cut it down to fit his shed or garage. It beats leaving it outside all winter and not too bad of a trade-off if you stand less than 5' 6" I guess. One other thing and I beg to differ with you Kelly. I have been using a blower on my C-175 for over 15 years. I thoroughly enjoy not seeing a damn thing while using it. I'm ecstatic shooting snow into the wind on a -25 degree wind chill day. I happen to like having my butt frozen to the seat and my glasses coated with powder. It wouldn't be the same if my jeans and drawers weren't half frozen/half soaked when I stumble back into the house. Oh and when I was a baby, I apparently enjoyed being dropped repeatedly by my parents.
-
1 pointSorry I didn't see this post, and as you know already no that blower will not fit the newer tractors, I have heard of guys making them fit as is and need a longer belt, or I have sold the newer mounting frames to make the blower fit, that is a bolt on part.
-
1 pointEarly 68 had starter/gen the latter ones are gear drive starters. and yes all big block high mount starters will interchange, even if a different tooth count.
-
1 pointWell guys after all the responses & looking over the 314 with the attach-a-matic it was going to need some mods. for the older blower to mount ... So I haven't been on the Raider 10 since before my operation & I could tell she was getting antsy, jealous & just down right pissed off @ the 314 So last night with help from the neighbor we pulled the deck off the Raider & threw the blower on it So having the convenience of 2 tractors & 2 snow removing toys is a GOOD thing in the long run And now I have 2 Happy :wh:

1 pointFor a few days, I would go into the garage (two tractors, one mini-van, one leaf blower) and I would get a very slight wiff of gas. I was blaming it on the leaf blower because it normally is never kept in the garage, but I brought it up from the shed to blow some snow dustings off the steps. This past weekend I was in the garage again, and got that slight gas smell. I told myself to put the leaf blower back in the shed. I went to pick it up, and realized that the smell was coming from one of the tractors. I pulled off a side cover, and here was the fuel filter wet with gas, and a drop hanging from the fuel line. It turned out that the plastic filter had developed a stress crack. Lesson here, if you smell gas you need to investigate the source sooner than later. Once I took the side panel off the tractor the garage really started to stink. I put the tractor outside and went to get a new filter. I'm glad I found the leak while it was still very small, otherwise the outcome had the potential to be real bad.
-
1 pointThat picture is really wild. surreal looking. Whatever that means. Glenn btw, a spring time followup pic would be nice.
-
1 pointI would love to, But I only have a shed to put it in at this time, Just fits. But soon I should be moving to a house with a garage. I t will have LED floods and a beacon!

1 pointFind someone to fix the Kohler 20M in my D/A 1920. I love my 416, but the 48" deck just takes too long. The 1920 with a 60" deck, turning brakes, and hydro can mower circles, literally, around the 416. I'm thinking of knocking down 3 acres of weeds and prepping for planting a woodlot. At bit too big a job for the 416. Jeff

1 pointwell its been a few days, I've been busy.... got a bunch of plated parts back........ so it was time to swap out some of the temporary stuff and start assembling parts. kept painting more black parts and also repainted the hood stand as i wasn't happy with it (to tell the truth here- the hood stand has been painted 4 times now since i started this build) i just wasn't happy with the shade of black and i also had an issue with some old powder that i had in storage for a few years. junk started appearing in some parts, so i ditched the box and started using our production supply at work. some of us guys that do a lot of personal work keep old inventory when its purged. sometimes it bites you using old stuff........ anyway, heres some more pics, its starting to go together slowly and I'm happy how its turning out so far..... steering all together... front tach-a-matic together with painted and plated parts. mid tach-a-matic together.... shifters painted and installed...... with new boot (part #3357) hood stand going on with replated hardware...... front axle and steering from above..... upper hoodstand on to check fit, needs to come off so upper steering shaft can be installed. i got it bolted on as it leaves less parts for me to kick around on the garage floor.....

1 pointJames , This is one show that you really dont wanna miss . it lasts 5 days long & is the biggest gathering in the world of steam traction engines , there is also a large tractor section along with stationary engines, heavy Haulage & large vintage sort out market. it cost around £17.00 per adult to enter for the day & trust me you will need more than one day to see it all . infact i would say that you would need 3 days to see everything comfortabley. & you will need to take a tent to camp out , dont just go for the day . The show marks the end of the show season and has some amazing exhibits , There are plenty of videos on youtube about the show , but is is day 1 or 5 videos The show is in a place called Blandford Forum in Dorset http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj6WAjNK_II&feature=player_detailpage#t=3

1 pointOk, because you asked, This is a before picture. I was drinking a coke and decided to try the foil method. To my suprise, after about 4 minutes, I had this result: I have to spend some more time on them, but it was cool to see such quick results. I believe I am going to use my mothers mag wheel polish on them to finish them up.

1 pointLike I said three of us had Cushman's whe I was about 10-12 yo.One guy had a real old one that had the box like for a seat and fender. The other guy had a new one that had the kick starter on the side of the engine like a motorcycle.Mine was like your pic,it was metallic blue with leather saddlebags. We rode them all over the county.Of course there was a lot less traffic and a lot less government.None of us had lic plates or driv lic,we weren't old enough. The only time we were picked up was in this little village about 10 mi from home. They didn't have a jail, they just called our parents to come get us,no fines or anything.I don't remember why they stopped us,we were probably being wise azz.

1 pointHeres part 2 of the snow team…my 1973 18 Automatic with a 60 inch blade... Its at my Dads right now because we just finished fabbing the the plow linkage and installed the factory front wheel weights but I plowed 7 inches with it yesterday and it was like it didnt even know it as there. I wish I could have gotten it to the farm here with 14 inches of snow coming,[attachment but the Charger 12 will have to clear the half mille driveway
