5 pointsMy son texted me: "Dad, I found a Wheelhorse for sale in someone's front yard." All he could say was " It looks old, but really clean looking."So off we go, it was getting dark when we arrived and there was no WH sitting out but the garage door was open. We knocked on the door to inquire and then taken to the garage to see this beautiful 753 with a snow blade. My herd is growing!!

2 pointsgot this chipper at the junk yard, swapped for junk i had, so it cost nothing. it had a blown motor and was opposite rotation being that it was direct coupled to the engine crank. now i know all the naysayers say a twisted belt drive is a no-no, and technically they are right, but i have 7 hrs on it according to the hour meter and have only adjusted the belt once(about 10 minutes after the initial start). the fun part was the shaft, it had a nice 6 degree taper(self locking) taper the rotor attached to, and if you ever worked with them you know how just a little off changes location of the attaching parts a LOT. but it came out nice. i tilted the chipper deck at a 15 degree angle (165 degrees instead of 180) for belt clearance, which gave me 1/8" static clearance but they did rub a bit as they bounced around while running, hence the idler. it is installed on the non-load side and was quite fun. i had it in and out of the lathe 6 times as i shaped it to the exact shape of the belt. it adds no twisting force to the belt at all and only shifts it 1/4" sideways. the only thing i bought was a 24" piece of 4140(overkill) that i needed 8" for another project also, cost $24. evertything else i had on hand , yes i am a parts hoarder, so total cost was less than $30 and it works like a champ. if i can quit using it i will build a belt guard, clean a paint it, red of course.]

2 pointsSounds like some damage to the innards. Assuming that you have a 1975, that means that you have a 4-speed (3 forward, and reverse). I have two 1975 B-80 transmissions here at my house. One has been completely disassembled, and is a parts unit. The differential is gone, but all the other parts are there. The other transmission is still attached to the B-80 frame and is complete. Once you find what you need, I can be a cheap source of parts for you. There are some other members on here who have lots of transmission parts as well. Let us know what you find. These transmission are fairly easy to repair if you have a little mechanical ability and some basic tools. Usually the hardest part of repairing one is getting the hubs off the axles, and getting the hitch pin out of the back. After that, everything else seems simple.
-
2 pointsBefore you drop the trans, put the rear end on blocks, put in a gear and turn the input shaft in a counter clock-wise direction. One or both of the tires should turn. Check the input pulley, shaft and key way. Put trans into neutral and spin one of the tires...the other tire should move in the opposite direction. You should also be able to hold one tire from turning and be able to turn the other one...try this on both tires. Check to make sure the hubs are tight and keyed on the axles. Your differential is OK if the above is true. Now put into a gear and try to turn both tires at the same time. They may turn, but it will be hard to do...they may also not turn. This is a good sign. Next, put back into neutral and pull out your shifter. If you look down the hole, you should see 2 shift forks lined up forming a square. Try moving one of them from one side to the other with a large screwdriver. It should feel like you are actually sliding a gear on a shaft. If so...the fork shafts are OK. There is not much else it could be...let us know what you find.

2 pointsMartin, by all means as Tankman said, "Use some Seafoam". It worked for me also. I mixed one ounce per gallon and wow what a difference in my 417A and Ariens Zero turn after only one tankful each. I then repeated this mixture for another tank and there was more improvement in both machines. I'm sold on this stuff now.

2 pointsThe Tach-O-Matic decks and snow blowers will work on the Raider. All you need to do is mount the Tach-o-Matic hitch to the front of the tractor. Just align and drill 3 holes in the front flame plate under the hood and use some 1/2' thick nuts to serve as spacers between the hatch and the frame plate. This is very easy to do and only requires three bolts of about 2 1/2" long. Here is a Raider 10 with the Tach-o-Matic front hitch, mule drive installed for the mower deck.

1 pointMy son has been serching for a wheel horse and when he seen this in a scrap pile ready to be crushed he had to have it, so 50 bucks later and having to get a loader to remove it from the pile here it is back in a barn and soon to be a winter resto project. I know shes rough but everything is there and under the dirt grime and rust its not in to bad of shape.

1 pointGet a big vat, fill it with a crap load of red paint and just dunk it. It will get into all the nooks and crannies and then hang to dry. Shave off all the run nibs with your plastic chain saw. Enjoy! And how about a new Stevasauras video; "Watching Paint Dry" You can be commentating on your view of the world!

1 pointNice Horse! I had a few Horses carryin' on some probably from lack of use. Tried SeaFoam® in the carbs, smoke, WOW! After a while, clear 'n clean exhaust. My '85 416-8 (Kohler one cyl) and my '90 520-8 Onan (two cyl), are both purring now. Some needle adjust and SeaFoam® did the trick. Try some if you haven't already. Liked the results so much added some to my old pickup trucks fuel tanks. We'll see. Again, "Nice Horse!"

1 pointAs a family, hockey is our favorite sport. We have all 3 kids involved. I coach my youngest in peewee and I am an assistant on my oldest son's varsity team. My daughter in the middle plays tier 2 travel. We have 2 college top 20 schools within 30 minutes of our house and we usually try to make it to a couple games a year. B1G hockey is interesting. Wisconsin looks like they will win it. Minny and Michigan may give them a fight. Ohio state and PSU will probably bring up the rear. Sparty remains mired in the middle. College hockey seems faster than the NHL with a lot less of the extraneous crap that takes place in the NHL: fights, clutching, grabbing, interference, stick work. The college game just seems less cluttered. Obviously, we still like the NHL a lot, but college is a great alternative. Besides in what other sport can the Miami Redhawks be ranked number 1? Yale won the National Championship last year...that's kind of a good thing right?

1 pointJust a small update on the shed. Got he fascia and soffits started. I found 2 bronze sash windows (26 x 36) so I will need to reframe but not a big deal. A local picker had two of them that are new and ever installed. I do not have pics of those yet though. Here are the pics.

1 pointSorry guys it was dark out by the time we got done, Its a raider 12, had the 12 hp kohler sitting next to it "got that on the bench" it has a kohler 8 hp on it. Nothing is froze and all turns by hand, The drive belt broke off when we hooked the chain to lift it so I just turned the drive pulley by hand and all seems good . The deck under it is shot"but wasn't like I would let the boy mow with it". He is super stoked and I know with what we got it will all be good. The guys at the scrap heap even went out and found him a nice seat for it, They made his day it was great.

1 pointCraig, I actually saw one that Kelly had made and patterned one on his design. I think he used a 7/8" bolt instead of the 3/4" that I used. It does look like a hub though. Hopefully, I won't break any more hubs trying to get them off.

1 pointlooks oh to familiar. Getting the bearings out of the side plate was the biggest challenge on mine. Your gears are in very good shape compared to mine. Check your width of your R-12 bearings, if I remember correctly, there are 2 different widths in that tranny, may have to spacer a couple of them. I did find the 2 different widths, on mine. Got most of the rest of the the bushings, bearings, and gaskets off of e-bay. I even have a couple of bearings left. Here is a link, if you haven't seen it yet. Good luck, they are not that bad to work on, I did it straight from the manuals and talking to other members on here. The link. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...0959&hl=rebuild Warning is picture heavy.
