This is a long story so set back. I got a call the other day from a guy that got my number from a guy that knows I buy WH tractors, he tells me he picked up a very old WH, from the orig. owner, she told him her husband bought it about 60 years ago, and he wanted to know if I might be interested in buying it? well yes but I need more info, it was late at night or I would have just drove over to look, anyway, I asked him to tell me about it, asking things like where is the engine, what does the hood look like, ect..... he tells me the engine is under the hood like his 520 he has that he bought new in 96, so a RJ is out, could it be a senior with a hood ?? I ask more questions, any attachments, what is the engine, ect..... he says he is not sure on the engine but it is big and has no spark, it only has a snowblade with it, and some tire chains, I asked about decals he said it had none just a faded rusty red paint job, he could not tell me what it looked like as it was at his neighbors house, where they tried to make it run, then again he ask what is it worth ?? I told him I have no idea I would have to see it, but I pay $75-100 for complete WH tractors even if not running, he says fine come look at it, so the next night with address in hand after work, I drove over to have a peek at what this might be, and was only a 1/2 mile out of my way going home, all day I was thinking what it could be, a senior, or a C series, or something in between, I pulled in the drive just as this guy did, we shook hands and talked for a min. then he opened the shed, I was hoping for a gem, but got what I figured , it was a very beat up 70 or 71 Raider 10, with plow, they started to strip the paint with a flapper wheel, so they could RESTORE it is what he told me, I walked around it and told him I really was not interested in it, told him what it was, and what it was not, then he said "you have to buy it, give me $100 and you can have the roller with it" what roller I asked ? so we walked out back to find a home made roller ugly as can be, but working and so heavy we could hardly move it, I looked the tractor over one more time, seen a few things I could pull, and make a few $$ on it so I said yes reluctantly, then he says as I pull money out to pay him, "Oh I don't want money, you can pay me in BEER" and tells me I want 100 bottles of beer, and tells me what kind and where to buy it cheap, then loads the back of my suburban with empty's to return, so I don't have to pay the deposit on the beer I buy, So I buy the beer only cost $83 deliver the beer, and take the tractor, I have bought lots of tractors, traded all kinds of stuff for tractors, but never had anyone tell me they want beer for payment for one, and to top it off, as I gave him the beer he says now I can sing that song, you know 99 bottles of beer on the wall. Scroll down to see the gem. Here is my gem I bought for 100 bottles of beer, you know every time I look at this tractor in my head I hear 99 bottles of beer on the wall 99 bottles of beer. I have to get rid of this thing soon.

What no picture of the "roller"..... Have a guy at work that works on cars on the side and only accepts beer for payment and you have to bring him the parts. He does good work most of the time but he is missing several toes 2 finger tips and the other day he ran a cutoff blade on an angle grinder into his arm. They know him by name at the ER. We told him he needs to cut back a little. :angry-nono:

Seen this and could let get away after the Mayrath did, It a 1948 R7 Shaw Du-All. its a runner driver with a ZZP B&S which runs great and starts on the first pull.Has brand new tires on all 4 too. It came with the cultivator and 10" mold board. The PO painted when he first got it some 30 yrs ago and it still looks good. He did infact use it for farming a 5 acre plot of sweet corn till 94 and has sat since. It needs a need a carb cleaning and thats about it. It'll look nice along side the other oldies.

Picked this up last week and hadn't had a chance to post pictures yet. I was looking for a Horse to help move some snow this winter, and although this isn't exactly the direction I was planning on going, this one was in such good condition and a good price so I couldn't pass it up. It is by far, the best original seat I have found on one. The engine runs good, but has a non-original engine block. The Sears snow blower is way more than I need so have posted it on classifieds. Hate to break up the set since it is in good condition and someone did a pretty nice job installing it on this tractor, but it takes up too much room to keep "just in case". I plan on just running it with the snow blade this winter. I think I got all the blade parts (have angle handle, just not in pics) except one of the rods for the angle lock mechanism, but hopefully that isn't too hard to make. . It also came with a bucket of parts. I think most are for a mower deck mule drive, but there is one part (middle of picture) I can't identify. It has a bend at one end and a threaded trunnion on the other. The bent end looks like it was welded on to something else at some point. Since the blower is pretty close to WH red, I can't tell if it is a WH part or from the blower. There is also a pin on a chain that seems a little fancy to just be a hitch pin, but maybe that is all it is. If anybody recognizes either, please post here.

I had a hub that was stuck pretty good so I did a search on "hub pullers" to see what some of you have built and I made this one. I turned down a 1/2" plate and welded a 3/4" grade 8 nut to it and used a 6" grade 8 bolt.... Works Good.

I just joined your forum. I have retired and bought my first couple project tractors. I have identified most but this one has no labels or stamps. Can anyone help? It seems to be old, cast iron hood with stamped "db". Thanks

I bought a jet ski batt, cranks the twin diesel over pretty good, about 3/4" wider, about 2" narrower, and a 1" taller, cost about $75

Great Help Guys, I'm just getting started with 2 Tucumseh in what I have identified as a 60 Suburban. Do you agree. I also bought a '69 V8 and '73 with Kohler engines. Haven't had a chance to compare. I bought before he was scraping them.

Put some Ags on the rear and a 48" dozer blade and it will push just as much as you gt14 did. I built a v blade for my 417A and it can do way more then I ever thought it could. click the pic for the video

did a rough fit to see how the pulleys line up. got this old mule drive mount with the tractor. the shaft is toast, so figured it would make a good base.

Techy is short for Tecumseh which is the make of your engine. Most members here prefer the Kohler engines and it's always an ongoing ribbing about the Tecumseh engines. I hope you didn't think it was something personal, It certainly wasn't intended to be. By the way, that tractor looks like my 1964 654

Hello all, Those of you here would have proberly heard me ramble on about getting new cleat tyres for my little raider 10. Well today I finally got round to doing it, ordered them online from all terain tyres yesterday and they arrived here today about lunch time, luckily it was my day off, so I got straight to it and put them on, here's the pictures,

I don't have the luxury of some of you guys - I've only got one tractor. So although the blower and plow are ready, they can't go on yet. The grass is still growing and the leaves have hardly started falling yet. Gotta get through that season first - but I will be ready when the snow hits.

The 4 seals you need will run around $12 from Motion Industries. The gasket between the trans halves is around $6 from TORO.. The needle bearings run from $4 to $7 apiece from Motion Industries. Figure around $70 to 80 total. This figure does not include replacing the #1533 ball bearings, or replacing any gears or transmission halves. (any of this would be used parts from members on Red Square) The job is not hard to do and can be done with a few basic tools and punches. How to threads and videos exist here on the site. Let us know if you have any questions.

That's true, onans are too smooth to shake it. I'm an onan guy myself, but I haven't had a Kohler twin. If they make the same power and require less maintenance I wouldn't mind giving one a try. I haven't seen an onan with problems that I was convinced had it's routine maintenance / valve adjustments. The rear intake valve ends up holding open, then the valve seat will pop loose. Keep valves adjusted and it should run thousands of hours.

No problem. I should add, that with exception of the RJ-58 only the serial numbers were on the tag. They didn't put model numbers on again until 1965 when they switched from decals to the black and silver aluminum tags. Via Tapatalk 4

Toro made the Kohler vs Onan decision just like John Deere and every other company. Onan was cheaper and thats all that mattered. I don't believe the Ponds would have made the switch from Kohler of they were still in power at the time. They tried Clinton, and Lauson, Techy and Briggs but always stayed with Kohler in the end. They knew where the real power and reliability came from... the big K!! Wheel Horse makes it...Kohler shakes it!!

That's one use of a rare David Bradley Hood I have never seen before - The DB hood is probably more rare than the right WH hood for that tractor!

"Onan twins are known for running thousands of hours in applications other than Wheel Horses. They have a very good reputation outside our world." -wh500special The P series needs a large amount of cooling air. I believe overheating is the major issue with the ONAN application on wheel horse 500 and 400 series tractors. Any ONAN on a generator does not run into this wheel horse specific problem. This happens often with 42 and 48 inch side discharge decks that shoot some clippings out the front and on a hot day could overheat the engine. The ONAN P series may also need more frequent valve adjustment and de-carbon service than the Kohler equivalent flat head twins.
