The past weekends adventure... Our local tractor show was this weekend. This year I took 21 tractors and left with 20. It took 4 loads...but if you can haul everything there in under an hr its not that big a deal...I live about a mile from the show. I sold my case 155, and 657. And ended up bringing home a pretty nice c141. I have been hoping for a c160 for quite a while but can't ever find one I can afford. This is gonna be my snowblowing tractor. it runs great, and has a clevis hitch on it. No attachments. I have a belt guard for it....its just not on. I also bought a trailblazer 5 snowblower, lot of small parts. One being an original back rest and square seat pan for a round hood, and even got a a new seat for the john deere 140 lol. Well here are a few pictures of what I bought...and my spot on sunday morning.

Well operation Harrison Elementary School Tractor club has begun! I took an early morning drive yesterday to meet David Rice (RCTruckdaddy) I believe that is his RS name. He was nice enough to meet me half way. We swapped the tractor over on to my trailer and then had a great conversation. Headed back home and let her sit. She is a great candidate for the kids to get dirty with. Most of the parts it needs I believe I have on the shelf, but there are few things I don't think I have so I may ask if anyone has those items available for a small fee. Many folks that follow along on my Facebook page "Wheel Horse Junkies" have jumped in to lend a hand. Terry Dennis (Vinylguy) has willingly offered up a new set of decals for the machine. Bud Andrews is going to get me squared away with a new battery when the time comes. Daniel Aungst is sending a gift card to TSC to help me with costs of materials. I am trying to work with some local groups that would be willing to chip in as well so I don't have to cover the entire project out of my own pocket. Our first meeting is this Wednesday after school. We will be focused completely on safety as I continue to round up the much needed parts for this. The kids will get a chance to see the tractor for the first time and we will talk about how we are going to tackle the project. It should be a lot of fun!!!! Here it is after David so proudly presented it to me. Thank you again everyone that has given encouragement!

The term 'just squeeze' is too subjective and lends no definition to the strength of the 'squeezer'. An old 'geezer' (me) won't have the 'squeeze authority' that a young guy would. Thus the 'geezer squeeze' becomes meaningless. Thats why the deflection 1/2 to 3/4 inch is more descriptive, and quantifiable. Of course, IMHO always applies.

Very nice tractors I like the idea of a eight horse class sounds like fun. Shooter500 I veiw tractors as classic cars some restore to stock some modify to have fun with building a puller doesn't mean the tractor is ruined I don't believe in make any changes that can't be returned to stock all the extra parts and bars on my puller are bolt on so it can be removed.even if parts are welded to the frame and such welds can be cut and ground down and holes can be filled. To me building a puller is better than tractors that just rot away outside or end hp at the scrap yard.most get the restomod treatment and bring lots of fun and joy to the owner

Traded my log splitter even-up for this 520H and Kwik Way Loader. I think we both got a good deal. Tractor has almost 160 hrs on the clock, but vibrates like crazy. Not sure if there is a dead cylinder on the Onan, but it otherwise seems to have plenty of power and doesn't smoke that I can tell. Starts right up. Loader seems to work fine, very easy to use. No deck with the tractor, but I've got a spare 48 SD and 42 RD I can put on the tractor. I'll be moving out one of my other color tractors to make room for this one and may part with an implement or two.

New to the forum.. I'm helping my son with a project. We bought a Commando 6 locally for $100 and decided to tear it down and redo it. Here are some photo's of the progress. Here's the hood in primer (Rustoleum!) after wetsanding it out. Here it is with paint on it.. the lights in the booth make the paint look darker than it really is.

Friend of mine yanked the Tecky before it became unglued in his Granddaughter's Ranger and dropped in a HF rice burner. Lots of work to prevent cutting things up http://s1270.photobucket.com/user/Mike604/media/IMG_0255_zpsb3d99889.jpg.html]

As a former Midwesterner (just had a fellow from PA think that I was from Minnesota with my ahkcent!), this is one of the best trips in the area. All of the above plus take a day to go to Mackinac Island for fudge, and make sure that you drive across the Mackinac Bridge. The Agawa Canyon Tour Train runs until October 14 out of Sault Ste. Marie into the Canadian Shield. Mid October is a great time as the unofficial state bird (mosquito) should be about done. Watch out for deer, and black bears. You Betcha!

if it is indeed powder coat, i would think your only option is burning the paint off or chemical stripping. blasting is an option, but is very slow on the majority of powder types........ if it was me and you really wanted to strip them, ( and it is powder coat) i would probably try the bonfire and move them around until all the paint is off. you would still need to blast them or at least pressure wash them to remove the ash and burnt paint. we burn powder off parts daily in an 800 degree oven, you can get it done with slightly less temp but you will have more clean up. i wouldnt think you would have a problem with doing them in a fire as long as you move them around a little so the wheels are heated as evenly as possible.... ...or you could find a place that strips powder coat and does blasting to take care of them, but the cost could be a factor. the company i work for would probably charge $100 to strip(or burn) and blast 4 wheels...... another good thing about burning them is it gets rid of all the grease in the front wheels.....

It all depends on who noisy, grinding, growling squealing is not good. Does it also wobble/wiggle with your hand. I used to grease before and after each use, then I read about grease types and overgreasing. I didn't realize you could over grease bearings. The experts agree yes you can. Prob would be a good idea to disassemble and check bearings after a cleaning, regrease, reevaluate . The sealed bearings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=simldPb88UU (rubber/rubber metal backed) have seals that can be (most) gently pried off, clean good and put a small amount of grease back in and pop seal back in. They also say mismatched / incompatible greases do damage. Give it a try, if bearings don't rotate smoothly you'd need replacements more than likely.

If it's that durable, why not just paint over it?

GMR, please place a want ad for items you are looking for in the classifieds. We try not to clutter the forum with for sale and want ads. Dave, Please respond via PM, as usual. We ask that you don't use the open forum as a for sale section.

Nice looking tractor. You'll like that 36 inch deck and love the ag tires - especially if you put some wheel weights on them.

Nice tractor, you will find the 310 will do everything you ever want it to do.

Finally got some Pics for you guys. Did some quick figuring, I paid $125 for the new carb. and I had $130 in the snapper, so that's a $255 investment. I think I did ok. Man it is jard to type without using my right index finger lol. The silver thing on the right side of the hood is a cup holder that the last owner installed.

Thanks again for the comments guys. I am pretty pleased with it, as it has been well taken care of. It has 994 hours on it but it doesn't show it. I really like that I got the manuals for the deck and the tractor with it. I didn't realize how popular the 314 was. Jay, As far as the C100 goes, I think I am going to hang on to it for a little while. I have been getting some parts for it here and there. I got the carb rebuilt but have not taken the time to get it running yet. As far as riding your 310-8 goes, I did enjoy that! That was my first experience riding one of these and so it was neat to get a feel for it. I also had a good phone conversation with Van that got me thinking about the newer tractors. So when the 314-8 popped up for sale, I figured I would try to get it for a good price, use it until I got the C100 working/dependable, and then make a decision about which one I would keep.

Make sure you've got those setscrews for the hubs torqued to 30 lb/ft or you'll be running with loose hubs and wearing stuff out... you can't do it with an open end wrench unless you are the Samsonite Gorilla. You need the proper socket (8 point - 3/8") to bring them up to torque, and it's good practice to replace the setscrew and key with new.

Today the dash panel got media blasted, primed and painted a satin black. We ordered one of the reproduction dash panel overlays and wanted a nice clean surface to apply the overlay to. Gave it a test fit to, just to see how it would look black. Not bad.. Also ordered a new throttle and choke cable set up.. We will continue to post pictures through out the course of this project until done. Personally I love to look at the progression of restorations.. I hope those of you watching enjoy. Thanks to those who have posted their likes.

Thanks for the kudos. I've always believed in making memories with the kids. When they are old farts like us (me) and the going gets tough sometimes that's the best thing we have to fall back on. I remember Tecumseh's well from my mini bike days as a kid in the early 70's.. we use to mess with the governor's back then to get them to go FASTER........ One of the things I stay on my son about is keeping things original. He'd love to put a bigger engine in or paint it a different color. (He's bugging me to paint the Tecumseh black 'cause he think's there's too much red) but since I'm the self appointed "king of the spray bomb".. hahahahaha.. I have control of the color being sprayed. I'm a collector of many things and I personally hate when I see some 50 year old something or other that's been altered or butchered. Thanks for the tip on the governor gears, I'll be sure to give that a thorough going over. As to the big show, my son already has BIG plans for it.. He really wants to ride his Commando in the parade. I bought a '73 12 Automatic and he wants me to bring that along so I have something to ride.. especially since I'm not allowed to ride his Commando!?!@?? What?? Hopefully we'll see some of you there!

Just another peak at the progress. It's slow, but still moving forward. One of the Redsquare members (Dave Luzier) hooked us up with a nice steering wheel we wetsanded and painted with Krylon Fusion to give it a nice new look. He also had complete lighting including new front lens, like new rear lens, wiring harness, fuse, etc and he even supplied us with pop rivets for the headlight bucket and wiring to sheet metal clips! A complete package. Thanks Dave!! As soon as the decal set comes in and gets installed it's on to the motor.. and none too soon. My son is trying to talk me into pushing him around the property so he can "drive" it.. ummm I think he's a little too old for that? (If I push him do you think he'd push me around?)

Well it is nothing real fancy but it is my worker. Love, love, love this machine!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2000 522xi with a 60" deck. Has power steering, cruise control, tilt steering and is one beast of a snow plowing machine.

I guess I'll throw my hat in the ring. From this to this in 8 hrs flat. I know I have at least one doubter out there but it can be done, and this tractor does look nice. I don't even know what yr. it is, don't care. (1985?) She has almost 2000 hrs on the clock and still purrs like a kitten. I cut at least an acre of grass a week with it, haul firewood, pull the sweeper, all the kinds of things Wheel Horse's were meant to do she does no problem. No trailer queen here, just an honest hard workin refurb.

Here it is with most of the sheetmetal and levers installed. We'll post more pictures as restoration progresses.. next big job after the steering wheel and the seat is going to be the Tecumseh HH60. Going to rebuild and repaint it. Can't wait.

Here it is with the fenders installed. We have to restore/refinish the steering wheel still. The process of rebuilding cracks in it was started using PC-7.

Here is my son starting to bolt it all back together. He opted for Stainless Steel nuts and bolts where ever they will work out. We decided to line the battery box with rubberized undercoating to extend it's life as you can see in the pictures.

Turned out not too shabby considering it was my first one, and I was using that neutered crap. Any ideas of how I could test the float before I seal it back up?

I'd like to ride it... but I'm scared of heights.
