4 pointsWell I finally got to go to my first show today with the help of Brrly1 and I got to say it was super great! I talked to and met other people and with the help of a good friend Carl, I got to get my C125 running for the first time since January this year!!!! The spool valve blew the seals and I thought there was no hope until I met Carl and Brrly1 who helped me get the parts, get it fixed, and invited me then took me to my first show. I just want to say thanks to these great guys and all of the other Wheel Horse people. I have felt very welcome in this hobby. Probably the best hobby in the world!!! Now, I look foreword to many more shown and friends!!

3 pointsWell for the 2nd year in a row, I got rained out of the garden tractor pull. Still lots of tractors and interesting contraptions around. Only nuts I saw there were Buckrancher and Jo. Flea market was big but this is starting to bug me. People bring all kinds of stuff AND I MEAN STUFF!!! and then they overprice everything and have to take all most everything home. Hardly seems worth it. Our site at the Steam Pageant we price most things to sell because we want them gone! Well didn't get any puller pics. When they started coming out the rain started. Very cool video at the end. Long entrance road into the show before and after Big mohambie marine engine Hart-Parr & Mini Moline Nice Oliver crawler old Ford Case steamer Porter Cable Craftsman Red Green was there! Get me a ladder! Cutting wood the slow way It will be a while before the bird's done! Bantam Finally a Horsie Tecky Power! This is for Steve! HE WANTS SNOW! Tiny Massey Hey another Horse! Bolens Pile of Cubs Long view from the entrance when I went to get the rain gear! Only pulling pic I got before the big rain Finally. Here's something you don't see often at a tractor show. A hand built Carousel powered by a hit in miss gas engine! Here's a video of it running!

2 pointsHad a wonderful day with my WH friends Karl (rockinhorse) and Lane (Lane Ranger) at Elnora on Saturday. I know everyone loves to see pictures so I have 50+ to post. As Lane said, the photos are in no particular order...Just nice pictures of interesting items. I could have taken 1000 pictures and never even got everything that was there! Enjoy..

2 pointsI had a great time today at Elnora, Indiana (Daviess County Four H Fairgrounds) at the White River Valley Antique Association's 29th Annual Show. Sat all day with Ken Smith ( KC9KAS) of Holland , Indiana and Karl Stohry ( rockinhorse) of Flat Rock, Indiana. Joined by Brian Lawson of Brazil, Indiana later in the morning. Here are some photos of the show in no particular order! 2 pointsWell, baby still hasn't had it's first bath yet...eventually it'll go to work with me and get steam cleaned at some point. Had to change the oil three times the other night just to get it to turn over... the sludge in there was thick like tar in there from not being changed, and sitting so long. Almost started thinking I was going to get it running again until I discovered the carb was leaking like a sieve. The kit for it came in the mail today, so I skipped the tractor parade to clean and rebuild the carb, replaced the fuel line, cleaned the gawd awful, funky crud outta the fuel tank, to finally get some fire in the hole. Actually, it turns out to be a pretty good runner...but found I'm gonna have to go through the sloppy steering now. So, some progress made...and more work to go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdReuUtTvqI Also, thought I check out how it would look with a set of duals on...wife says to me "I don't think you have to have dual wheels on every tractor you own"...I thought...the nerve of that woman to think such nonsense...but you know...I didn't have the nerve to say it out loud. LOL!

2 pointsWe are back in San Francisco now. Here I am eating dinner in the famous Cliff House Restaurant, overlooking the Pacific Ocean as the sun was setting. More pictures will be added when I get home. Sorry guys. I didn't see a single red tractor...no, wait. Yes I did.

1 pointMy son and i took a trip to PA and picked up these two. I have been looking for a decent b-80 for a little while and the little 7 is in great shape, just couldn't so no.

1 pointjust corrected settings on my account. you might want to check your shipping preferences if you use ebay. they are really pushing this new shipping program, and you may find that you have been "volunteered" to participate.

1 pointHey had a good time sat. I think we were the ambassadors for RED SQUARE yesterday. People have a lot of interest in wheel horse's and asked a lot of questions yesterday. Hope we get some to join . It's funny how people would come up and start talking wheel horse stuff as we were in the flea market area quess the shirts give it away Brookvile tractor show end of the month plan on going should be a good one .

1 pointShe got them from the camera to the 'puter....I got them onto RS.
-
1 pointIt would have to be a 312-8 (just like mine) Keep it simple, keep it cheap, reliability is better than anything mechanical has any right to be. Just a good all year round working tractor.

1 pointSpent another few hours this afternoon chopping into 3/8 RSJ... The result now being the front pivot bearing that provides articulation. An hour with a 31mm and 51mm hole saws was worth it! I'm now on all fours, still need the cradle completing to hold the rear transmission. Cheeky shot showing the dual articulation

1 pointGot the fuel pump to work! Finally!! Definitely getting gas to the carb. Of course, now the carb is spitting gas out---looks like I'm in bad need of a gasket!!! Took a quick spin around the house, couldn't resist. Nothing like a first ride on a wheel horse, eh? Thanks for all your help my friends.

1 pointSometimes it seems like the prices of Wheel Horses are all over the place. Some people get really lucky and buy a Wheel Horse with 3hours on it for $75 dollars but that not the norm. We all know what these tractors are, and what they are capable of. So to me $1650 is realistically not a bad price for a machine that can be used over and over (virtually trouble free) for multiple task for the next 20 years. I would not sell my 312-8 (with 565 hours on it) for $1650.

1 pointscott, put me down for 1 @ medium 1 @ large 2 @ xlarge thanks
-
1 pointOverall I believe real Wheel Horse people are good people. The big show in Pa. convinced me of that when I went for the first time this year.
-
1 pointPut me in for 2, xl and 2, 3xl's for me, looking forward to seeing you in October. shorts

1 pointI tried putting the deck and mule drive from my 314-8 on my 73 Raider 10. I am tilling with the 314 for the summer and the little Raider didn't come with a deck. Having a deck in the shed next to a tractor without one was killing me. The front tire rubs the mule drive on left turns though... The pulley gaurd on the 314-8 measures 3 3/16". The pulley gaurd on my 69 Raider 12 measures 3". The front tires on my 73 are an inch wider than the 69 also. 6.5-5.5. I honestly thought all mule drives were the same Does the 73 take the same size mule drive as my 69? And is 6.50 the correct tire width for the 73? Thanks, Kevin

1 pointTwo problems here... 1) I had a 9 and 3 record this week, and 2) there's something wrong with your alphabetical order. You listed it by won / loss record, which makes perfect "sense". And about that, " I have never been used to being on top", TMI Dude!

1 pointMy son and I are currently restoring our first Horse. Through the restoration the thought process is that we are going to do it up nice, but there is a limit to how far we are going to go. It's only a Garden Tractor. Not a Show Car.. and that's not to diminish it, we will probably get more joy out of it when it's done than I did out of my 1964 Pontiac 2+2 that took over 6 years and many thousands of dollars to restore.. in the end I hated the car because it was too nice, and cost too much money to do. When I finally sold it I didn't get anywhere near the money invested in it back. When our Horse is done, we would not lose any money if we decided to sell it. But I don't think we would ever sell it!

1 pointThanks, I was kind of thinking of the diesel route. I have a jug of heating oil that was left over from a tank I pulled. Not good to burn but probably perfect for soaking the trans.. that little bit of penetrating oil that's already in there will probably be a little bit of a help.. I'm really hoping not to have to tear it down.

1 pointI am in n/w PA...about 80 miles north of PGH and I have a 1997 model 520H with a 60" deck for sale. This 520-H has only 484 hours on it and it runs without so much as a burp and absolutely no smoke at all. The Onan 20hp engine starts easily and runs perfectly across the rpm range, staying smooth without 'searching' at all. It has a 425CCA battery, all lights and dash-board gauges work, safety switches are intact, and a very positive and strong Eaton 1100 power unit. This one has the Gear Reduction steering, forward swept front axle, louvered hood, and hyd lift of course. The seat isn't torn or split, and it has arm rests. The seat flip up static piston actually works too (1st I've seen for a while). The motion and lift controls are on the steering column and work flawlessly. There are no puddles on floor from leaking anything....all dry, and all good. I backed into it with my truck this spring and had to replace the fender so the decal on it isn't correct. The right front corner of the hood was damaged by PO and is repaired by pop-rivets yet a couple dents remain. The paint has flaked off in some panels and the fender allowing surface rust to raise its ugly head. The PO was a truck driver...thus the Mack Bulldog mounted to the hood. For a whole bunch of pics... go to this photobucket: http://s590.photobucket.com/user/DAVEOMAN/library/520-H%201997#/user/DAVEOMAN/library/520-H%201997?sort=3&page=1&_suid=13786243995330279259843539236

1 pointI did get ONE Photo of my own Lawn Ranger today at the White River Valley Antique Association Show in Elnora, Indiana! Just one! I was too busy doing other things!
-
1 pointWow that was what was all there, I live ten min from it and have never been. Thanks for the pics because I am sure going next year.
-
1 pointNice photos. Thanks! Working on uploading photos from a show that Karl Story, Lane Ralph and myself attended today.
-
1 pointSteve, you have to put different field coils in it to make it turn the other direction. Any starter repair shop could do that for you.
-
1 pointWhoa...Illinois beats a top 30 team 45/17...how cool is that??? Happy Birthday to me! Good luck picking the game next week for them...Illinois vs Washington...if Illinois wins this game they should crack the Top 25. Iowa was lucky...they have a long way to go....they play Iowa St. next week...lucky for them they do not play Illinois this year.

1 pointGlenn, I married a Finnish girl, whose family settled in Ontonagon when they came over...sounds like we both did OK. BTW...there is a great tavern in Wakefield on RT# 2...it is just east of the lake on the south side of the road. Ha Ha Glen...I can make it there in 7 1/2 hours. One other thing...don't order Pizza (they have no clue there)...you have to come to Chicago for that.

1 pointThe setscrew bolts for those hubs will NEVER be tight enough if all you use is an adjustable or open end wrench. The screw WILL loosen up again, guaranteed. You need to torque those to 30 LB/FT and the only way you are going to do that is with a proper 8-point socket. Fact is though, as others have already said, that if the set screw is worn, you need a new one. The KEY is also worn, and most likely the keyway slot in the axle as well. More info here:

1 pointThought I'd post up some more pictures of the internals for anyone who is interested. Despite the crankcase being aluminum, it is a pretty stout piece with lots of stiffening ribs: The underneath of the engine has two little "windows" to allow forced air from the blower housing to coll the underneath of the engine. For this reason it would be a good idea to mount the engine on the chassis with the centre section of the crankcase clear to allow the air to flow: The tapered and the straight cranks. Note that my new straight crank doesn't have a plug in the end of the oil gallery drilling. The tapered crank has an aluminum plug hammered into it. I tapped the hole to accept a short 5/16 setscrew. The balance shaft: And the cylinder head: And the piston: Wont have parts till Monday, I hope to have this thing back together next week.

1 pointconfirmed they are autum olives. they are edible but super invasive like choke cherries. i think turning the area into a private camp site will be fun. i'll start this fall after the leaves drop. no one will be able to see in there at all, it's dense.

1 pointThere was a service bulletin on tightening steering on round hoods. You replace roll pins with over size ones at the spindles and steering shaft. I did it to my 704 and it drives like new! Bulletin WH 61-90 #49 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wheelhorsetractormanuals8/files/

1 pointI just re-read the post. Enjoying the comments 'cause I don't know what I'm doin'. Just having fun and seat time with the boys. Wo.....wo......work! Lawns and property are always **** 'n Span clean. Forty years ago, my 1st WH, forget the model number. Long gone. The 1st Horse started this whole WH frenzy. Tank goodness my sons and I got an early education. We all laugh watchin' purchases at Home "Cheapo" and Lowes. OMG! A bit relaxed, semi-retired, I spend more time than needed playing with the Herd and Grandsons. Those boys, elementary schoolers, love Horses, camo clothing, work boots, Tractor Supply, welding, changing oil, tamping the driveway, backpack blowers, weed wackers and workin' with the Stallions. My Sons laugh and me and the Grandsons! The nerve! Currently our goto Horses are the '85 416-8 and the '90 520-8. I do like the wider stance of the front axle. Just for looks I guess. The Boys shine the wheel covers diligently and spray McQuires tire shine on the tires and the polyethylene gas tank (works great on the PE tank). Although the 20hp Onan runs like a Patek-Philippi watch, worries me. Stories I guess. The 16hp Kohler is POWER too. Both great Horses. Now, sorry, off topic. 'Cause we guys like red, and always liked IH, us boys are going to look at a "like new", kept indoors, local, runnin' great, 48" deck, Cub Cadet 582. Any thoughts on this non-WH "thing"? PS. Sorry, just thinkin' (I think, I think) again. Miss my Farmall ('32) and gas powered washing machines.

1 pointI love the 953/1054 also, but as far as big and tough you may want to look for a GT-14, mine has a Front end loader and 3 point on it and it is a Beast!
-
1 pointI'm kinda partial to my 1054. It's heavy, and heavy duty. I love the looks of them too! So I would vote 953, 1054, or GT14
-
1 pointThat's why I don't restore, I recondition. Everybody has a choice to do with their tractor as they see fit. There can be no right or wrong if you are happy with it. Gene...

1 pointHello, I just thought I'd put this up...my solution to this "problem". Its not rocket science I know but it works, pictures speak a thousand words.. Anyone wanting to use this idea, Use an angle grinder,( pins are hardened) Leave minimum gap in ring (just clears bracket) Thread ring on horizontally to the ground from outside(nearest wheel) I've made these for both my tractors, done some tilling and a couple of mows and haven't lost one yet, I'm not saying its impossible, but I think highly unlikely. Installing with the tiller on is a doddle!
