This is my RJ35 that has just landed in Britain , I bought this tractor from Michael Martino and i also bought the front reel mower from another Redsquare member. Just a few little bits n bobs to do to the tractor to have her up & running but nothing major .

There was an auction near my inlaw's place where a family was selling all of their farm equipment. I talked with the owner, and he said he had purchased it from the 1st owner and that the mower has spent it's whole life locally and was always serviced at the place where it was originally sold. The 42" deck looks awesome. He gave me the manual and reciepts going back to 1999. I am not sure what year it is, anyone know? The model number is: 73400 Serial number 5902150 M14s Serial number: Spec:601559 Serial number: 2515906393 Not sure what I am going to do with it yet. Paid $550 + 10% auction fee.

Well the Grange Fair was a short visit! Started uninterrupted work on the loader at about 1:30 this afternoon. Finished at 8:20! It was worth it. After some cutting, grinding, filing and minimal cursing because I had no time constraints, I got it on. Thanks to my Karen who slid the tractor under the mount while I held the frame up. (Never made the stands. Used the brace arms to get it off the blocks). No leaks, no seeps, no noises, and full function of everything. Pump is very quiet and barely moves the vacuum gauge on the tractor. Much less work for the motor than my 48 inch mower deck. I didn't put the rear weight on so I took it easy and made sure everything was primed in the lines. Plenty of down pressure and fast movement. A big thank you to Malmac, Scott, Wallfish and the others who offered advice and posted pics of their loaders. The biggest pains in putting this on a 520 since it wasn't factory designed for any of the Onan powered tractors was the pump mount and the lever release/lock Attach a matic that is used on the newer tractors and the 1991 520-H. (My 1992 416-8 didn't have the lever design). It required cutting out a long skinny triangle from the thick metal original sub frame to allow alignment of the frame holes and shortening the actual lever. (The frame cut took three cutting disks and a good portion of a fourth). I also had some issues with the nut/bolt used on the front mounting bracket. The first frame hole on each side has VERY little room to start a nut. (Because of the gear reduction steering assembly). On the positive end, the factory brace arms leave plenty of clearance around the Onan and hood. My suction line to the pump will need moved since it is in harms way. I think the pump is OK where it is at with a guard to be made soon. I'll work it harder on Monday and really heat the oil up and check again for leaks or seeps again. I do have to weld a wallowed loader lift cylinder pin hole but even it isn't too bad. The others are real tight. Not bad for as old as it is and for 500 bucks. This was always a real want for me so please excuse my over exuberance. This makes the beginning of the work week a joy! It might take until noon at work tomorrow to wipe this grin off my face!

If you're going to opt for a Kohler...might as well put a K-341 in that hole.

Me too Mike, but I have adjusted my picks once already. I'll post mine tomorrow. There are a few games this weekend that can go either way.. I hate to tell you this, and don't put a lot of stock in it, but the Big Ten is not always as good as it thinks it is (as a conference). When you have 6 to 8 teams going to bowls and only a couple of the teams win...you are not as good as you think you are. There are a lot of good teams out there in the country, and they all want to beat a Big Ten team. I would think that the Notre Dame vs Michigan game this weekend is going to end up as big of a game as the Michigan vs Ohio St. game this year. All Big Ten teams are playing at home this weekend...except for Minnesota. This week will start to separate the Deeres and Cubs from the Horses.

Well, I did my first competition pull two weeks ago... 15 tractors in the Stock 25 class. Most of them were Cubs... just a few WH's. Anyway, I had the shortest pull in my class. Not compaining at all about that as I need the experience more so than just going in there and blowing the veterans away. There were a couple other tractors that went only a foot or two further than I did. However, some of the Cub guys that have been doing this for a long time, went 50-60 feet further than I did which definititely got my attention. All in all, I had a great time and it was a lot of fun for my first experience at garden tractor pulling. I know that I have a lot to learn yet. Looks like I will have to try several different set-ups to figure out how to get more distance in my pulls. I pulled in 3rd high gear thinking that I needed the speed to keep up with what the Cubs were doing. However, the engine bogged down and stalled well before any wheel spin at the end of the pull. Will have to try 2nd high gear next time I think to sacrifice speed for more torque. I missed a pull this past Saturday due to having to work long overtime hours, had to work 84 hours last week. Looking forward to doing this again as there are a few more dates on the schedule yet this year. As far as a list of mods on my WH puller... Big Jake built an awesome pulling tractor that I have here... not only looks good but is a hell of a lot of fun to drive. The frame and transaxle is from a 1977 Wheel Horse C-120. The hood is from a 1965 WH. The engine is a Robin Subaru 22hp v-twin which runs and sounds great! Big Jake had put dropped front spindles on the tractor when he built it. I had to replace them with stock spindles to pull in Stock 25 class here in southern PA. Rear tires are new Carlisle 26x12x12 TruPowers. Very cool pulling tractor and extremely proud to own it.

I got my games all picked. But I won' t disclose them now so I can keep you all in suspense!

Yup, most everyone who moves to FL sells everything before they move down. I got lucky and found my C-160 in Brandon 6 years ago. Now if only I could find a tiller & plow close by.....hahahahahaha, yea right!

So $1,000.00 - if the tractor had a "complete" restoration? Thanks Kelly

Thinking of offering a wheel narrowing service now are we Richard? Your method of cutting wheels is a bit more scientific than my way.

Hockey reference..? Happy Gilmore? Or Big Ten Hockey!!! Bring it on! Week one thoughts: Northwestern will always be tough as long as Pat Fitzgerald is there. Colter's concussion could be trouble. Nebraska- scary close win. Their defense has to improve in order to be considered a contender. Penn State... they MAY be for real...SU new coach, new QB =win for PSU. Nittany Lions could be interesting. The OSU... like I said earlier...it boils down to URBAN MEYER. Mich State... Mark Dantonio.....George Perles? They are unfortunately stuck in the middle just like when George lived there. Purdue..wow, are they really that BAD? Or is Tommy Tubberville that good? Hazell was a reach...maybe they are that Bad. Michigan. I dunno about them. I still don't believe in Brady Hoke. Time will tell. I have got a good feeling about the IRISH though! Illinois- didnt impress. If Juice Williams couldn't do it I dont think that Nate will either. Indiana- maybe a surprise but the Sycamores weren't a real test. They do have the offense though. Iowa- Kirk has been there a looooong time. Maybe to long. What do you think Hawkeye Fans? Wisconsin- I like the Badgers somewhat, really. But it was UMASS. The real test will be this week when they take on Tennesee. My bad! I mean Tennessee Tech?! Wow, I didnt think anyone scheduled like that anymore. Barry what are you thinking? Minnesota- 21 points from special teams. Is that good coaching or luck? Jerry Kill is a good coach, BUT to think that the Gophers will return to the "glory days" of Coach Holtz may be a bit premature. What are your thoughts?

I love that ranger. if we ever get our lot sold, I am going to replace the 310-8 with a less practical, more fun tractor btw, what size rears do you have on the ranger? 18x8.50-8?

Hi mark, thanks, hope all's well. No problem Ian, only just a chance ask really. I'm sure I'll get my mitts on some one day. Ta !, happy with the way it turned out... gonna use it or sell it, not sure yet. Hi Lars, Thanks , hope all is ok for you. If I can find a #30 over here, , maybe I could make the parts and send them over, could be cheaper. I'm moving on to the next challenge now, here is an idea of the set up....... You should know this one Lars And a clue..... the large 6" dia Chuck is set to hold a diameter of 1 1/2" (38mm) and a Slitting Saw ready to do the cutting ?

Thanks Glen. Honestly, I have these tractors for people to enjoy, young or old. I also love seeing kids have fun without tv or video games. Its only metal and if the hoods were a priceless commodity, I would just fix this one. I told my friends son that as soon as I fix it he's welcome to take it for a ride again.

Have recorded these model numbers for the Raider 10 4-speed 1-0393 Recognized by Toro as a 1974 model (2 serial numbers recorded) 1-0394 Recognized by Toro as a 1975 model (4 serial numbers recorded) 71-01K4 Suspect this one should read 71-10K4. Likely a 1977 model (1 serial number recorded) None of them are on the Belgium model list. Garry

This Stens dealer in Canada will ship to the UK. The last one I got from them was made by Nelson in the USA. Good American quality. http://www.bantasaw.com/ Worth contacting them to see if it is cost effective. Nelson had a huge plant just up the road from me until about 15 years ago. Garry in Canada.

953, That is not true. Too much weight in the loader will lift the back end, with the fulcrum at the front wheels. Any weight behind the front wheels will help balance this. A lot of weight just behind the front wheels. Less weight on a longer lever arm further behind. It's all good. I prefer the weight on the wheels. It doesnt put any stress on the transaxle case. I can still get to my hitch, and I can assemble and move the weights easily. The weightbox is further back, so it can balance a larger load, BUT, it blocks my hitch, it puts a big load on the transaxle case, and it is just too heavy and bulky to lift (unless I use the loader, but then I need to balance the weight of the weightbox ...)
  28. 1 point
Well I didn't need to take off the hitch. The weight box comes within a half inch of it. Once again I lucked out! I know what your saying cheesegrader but I have the hunk of concrete and I starting singing soprano after moving it 35 miles with the loader so I'm going to use it! Moved tires around on the tractors to get the wide 12.50 AG's on the loader tractor. No wheel weights or weight box when I took the picture but they look nicer than the turf tires that were on it! Heavier tire by far. These are Daco's.

Take a look at this picture and note the bolt that is on the right. There are 4 bolts that hold the bull gear and pinions in place and the bolt on the right had broken or nut came off. When that happens the bolt will slide out and as the gears turn it will hit the gear that is in the middle. Normally the bolt heads run between the two gears. Not a problem to fix and if you dont actually break the bolt and get loose bolts/nuts rolling around while still running the tractor you can keep from breaking your case. The bull gear/ring gear runs close to the case so any loose metal can get caught between and crack the case - like happened to mine. Its all good now with grade 9 bolts and a new case. Not a hard repair but time consuming. We will help you all we can.

Have always been very impressed with the way mine performs...just, it's buried so deep in the shed, I don't have the ambition to dig it out every fall. Usually, seems easier to just blow the leaves into a windrow and mulch 'em up.
