4 pointsGentlemen, it has come to my attention that some guys are not participating in this pool because of some of the banter that has already occurred. The idea of this thread is to have some fun and promote interest in college football. Please read the first post in this thread, if you have not, and let's keep the banter from getting personal. It's OK if you do not like a team, but remember that some one is out there that loves them. It is probably better to tout your favorite team, rather then cut another team down. The Big Ten Conference has some of the most intense rivalries in college football, so it can be pretty easy to cross the line. Please read what you are about to post, and consider the feelings of others about what you say. THANK YOU

3 pointsJason- Good planner prep! E-1 is the entrance doe the lawn and Tractor folks to display. G, H, I and J - 1 areas are the lawn tractor, mowers, and small engine display areas -AND last year the show had an area closest to Michigan Avenue roped/or snow-fenced off for parking trucks and small trailers) However they have some other areas for larger, longer trailers with trucks also. Not sure where that is going to be this year. Mike Hall is the Co-Chairman of the Show. He is also the Lawn and Garden Tractor guy for the show. He has a small RV trailer set up at the entrance of the G-1 grid area with a canopy/tent for signing in and getting credentials, buttons/badges and exhibitor tags. Most of the area for display is roped off with metal stakes/rods. The traffic ways are wide enough for two/trucks and trailers to pass etc. They let you have ample time for loading and unloading and setting up in designated areas. I asked Mike to try and get a larger area designated for Wheel Horse but have not heard back from him yet. We had a very nice display with Martin Howard, Denny Clarke and Lane and David Ralph on the second row at the very beginning of the G-1 area last year. I asked if we could perhaps get that again -only larger! PS: That big ring in the center of the area for the show is the steam railroad track!

1 pointSo for years I have contemplating about digging a small root cellar for storing my potatoes. You see, I always lose a lot of my potatoes because my storage in my basement is too warm due to the furnace. So this weekend, I started digging a hole near the raised beds. I ended up with a 3 foot deep by 2 foot wide hole. Now this does not sound like a hard task unless you have stuck a spade in our Shaker Hill soil! Rocks, gravel and even more rocks after two hours with a pick axe and spade I finally came up with this; I took one of my 6 foot long pry bars and 10 pound sledge hammer and made some even deeper "Vent" holes in the bottom of the hole to allow more cool air into the area. When I was done pounding these holes, I added some landscape rock in the bottom of the hole to help with any possible drainage; I then went to the local Ace Hardware store and bought a 31 gallon galvanized metal garbage can for $25. I wanted to buy some screen from a screen door from them but he gave me a bunch of remants for free from a recent job they did! I took the can and screen home and drilled a bunch of holes in the bottom of the can. I drilled them from the inside instead of flipping it over so the metal shards would not damage any potatoes. These holes will allow the cool air from the earth into the can; I then flipped over the can and used the bottom as a guide to cut the screen. I cut two circles and placed them both in the bottom of the can. This should keep any bugs from entering; I then placed the can into the hole and back filled around the edges so the dirt was just a few inches away from the can cover; I then took some old leftover 2x10 pressure treated boards and made a 3x3 box that will cover the can opening. This space will also be fitted with a piece of rigid insulation to help keep the frost away from the top of the can; I did not have any pressure treated plywood on hand, so I will make a hinged cover for the box with a handle next weekend. This box will be mounded with dirt all the way around it and will also have some straw or hay covering it through out the winter. Hopefully this Trash Can root cellar will help keep my potatoes for a long time! I will let you know.

1 pointWas trolling Kijiji this morning and had a "barn sale" come up in my daily wheel horse search Tonight I brought home a 7-2521-9 Lawn Sweeper. Naturally it was filthy and been left sitting idle in a barn for who knows how long. It's missing the usual assortment of springs and bushings and who knows what else - but it's in my garage now. At least it would be if it fit. Bought my first Wheel Horse - a 414 8 - last October. Now I own a dozer blade, blower, rototiller, sweeper and garden trailer. I'm in deep. Enjoy the photos cheers, john

1 pointHi, I found a 1973 Wheel Horse GT 14 Auto 3pt Hitch with many implements for $1500. This tractor is still a strong running tractor and is pretty much all original. Some details are: Original Kohler 14HP engine (never been rebuilt, doesn't smoke or burn oil) Original Sundstrand Hydro Trans that has not been converted to motor oil (uses original transmission fluid) Original Factory 3pt hitch Hydraulic hoses have been replaced in the past Original 42" mowing deck Cat0 Implements (2 small plows, 2 turning plows, scrape, discs, cultivator, hitch ball) Original rims and tires are still in great shape (rear tires have fluid in them for traction) There is rust on the body and all the implements, but over-all it looks like an outdoor-kept tractor. I was wondering if this is a reliable model and year for a small-scale homesteader, and if I could reliably do most of the repair work on a model like this. Also, would this price be fair if it is actually in as good running condition as listed by the seller?

1 pointI'M ARRIVING ON FRIDAY WITH FIVE TRACTORS RJ58,552,753,1045,ELECTRO 12 AND A TUB CART. LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING RED SQUARE MEMBERS.

1 pointLast year was my first year to attend this show, if I remember correctly grids K L and M are parking. I was able to park my truck and trailer there and entered the show grounds through a gate located at the bottom center of grid J2.

1 pointLooking good Guys! We are going to have a boatload of Wheel Horse tractors there this year!

1 pointEveryone says I'm weird and they are right! I really don't follow college football. When I was young I watched the Notre Dame replays on Sunday morning with Lindsay Nelsen but that was it. I'd watch Bud Wilkinson doing the college football report on Sat afternoon but only because The American Sportsman was on next. My son watches no college football at all but knows everything about every college player eligible for the NFL draft. Been that way since he was 5. My record will be interesting as I'll pick on intuition alone. Now the NFL is a different matter. Big game for the Pack against the Chefs

1 pointYou can drop that float in a coffee can filled with water, if it's still floating in an hour or so you should be OK. Man that carb looks GOOD!
-
1 pointFrom my own recent experience I did buy a new carb for an HH60 and I don't believe it was made by Tecumseh but it works great. I also have a problem with a HH-120 carb and no one has one of those. Discontinued they say but they are listed on many parts stores on-line. When you order one for $100+ with shipping you will get an email two days later saying it is not available. Why the heck don't they take the thing off their web site then? Tecumseh never had a decent carb on anything the ever built.

1 pointI've used bar style ag tires for years without any damage to the lawn - less wheel spinning when turning around results in less damage . I even run chains on mine and it leaves no marks whatsoever . Turf tires spin too easily and cause way more damage than any lug tire ever will , unless you get wild and try to spin those , then you have holes . Sarge

1 pointRMCIII, you surely have it in for the State of Iowa. First off you don't like the Hawkeyes (which is like HUH?) second off they also have a team in the state which is called the Iowa State Cyclones so I gather you don't like that either. About the only thing I can offer is that my initials are JACIII. May you have a good day. Steveasaurus, niu is going down the tubes!!!!! They also play the Toledo Rockets on the 20th of November!!!!

1 pointI have been working on this for a few weeks now and have finally finished it. It was pretty much a basket case when I got it but I had enough parts to get it back together. It has a K-321 14hp. in it but it runs good and doesn't smoke. It has some new parts and stuff I had in the shop. Enjoy the pictures. There are more on my web site.

1 pointGood idea to get the plan of attack. I was reading some place where they lock the gates at 7am. Not sure if I want to carry my stuff into the grounds from a parking lot. So who knows the details of this show?
-
1 pointSo, when you're ready to get rid ot that tired old K90...let me know, I'll come get it. .
-
1 pointAnd the best part is these kids will learn that lawn tractors are not all green and yellow and come from a big box store for 1200 bucks, and that you have to buy a new one every 4 years.
-
1 pointSo forgive me, I'm a planner. Was looking up the show grounds for the Prairieland Heritage show. Lane, or any of the other guys who've been before want to give us the layout? I've placed map grids over this screen shot of the grounds. Whereabouts do we set up/park, etc?

1 pointi posted this in the ot forum a couple of weeks ago, as i too was embarrassed...1 for the stallion, 2 for me, 3 for humanity. watching them drill holes in the hood made me cringe, but then i laughed as it almost ran him over when he flipped it.

1 pointJust got home from the show, I have to say one of the best shows I've been to. We had a pretty good turnout of horses and I got to meet several members for the first time. Lots of cool stuff there, here's a few pics. The mayor of Le Sueur was there. JoeBob's reel mowers. They're mounted on a pretty nice tractor too! JoeBob and Martin lookin over some of the horses. Kent's 875, one of my favorites. TerryM's son Andrew's Ranger

1 pointfirst time for us in mn and gotta say, very nice show....... even with the dust and the primitive camping, this was one of the nicest weekends ive had. cant say jeanine feels the same way (she wasn't too happy with the camping), but we will probably still do the same next year, maybe bring a portable shower..... she really enjoyed the show though, the social atmosphere (especially around the fire) and kent was one happy guy on his tractor most of the time... i only have a few pics of the weekend, and they will follow. great to meet some of the mn guys and catch up with some other redsquare members. we had some really nice wheel horses on display and some i hadn't had the pleasure to see yet. ive also got to make a special mention about denny's 701, what an awesome job you did on this one!!! anyway heres my limited pics, i think steve took some more of all of us in the parade, hopefully he will make up for the lack of pics. its just so easy getting sidetracked at these shows, talking and looking, but no picture taking!!!!!

1 pointTwo different species. The C-161 has the K341AS engine, mounted in a cradle. It has a smaller oil pan than the K341S in the C-160. Because of the "shaker" cradle, a different belt guard is used, as well as different PTO components. There are other differences as well. C-161 has the gas tank under the seat, C-160 in front of the dash. Lift mechanisms are different. The dash tower is different, as the battery on the C-161 mounts where the gas tank used to be on the C-160. Many parts are interchangeable on the engines like carburetor, starter, fuel pump and covers, but the oil pans cannot be interchanged. Transmissions should be the same.

1 pointI am currently using amsoil synthetic air compressor oil 30/40 it's working great but I may need to go to a lighter viscosity this winter probably sae 20 since my shop is not always heated. It is a bit expensive but a lot cheaper than a pump rebuild, I am running a Champion 2 stage with an 80 gallon tank....it was probably built sometime in the 1970's. If it is running hot I would try some synthetic oil and see if it reduces your pump temperature mine runs cool enough that I can put my hands anywhere on the pump.
