Just wanted to share a recent experience with all of you. I was recently planning a trip to the Finger lakes on the bike for a couple days of relaxation and adult beverages. The morning I was supposed to leave on a 5 hour journey to New York, I took a look at the weather and found out that I would be spending my relaxing time looking out a hotel window watching it rain for days. I was taking this journey with my girlfriend and another couple. We were meeting for breakfast and then hitting the road. At breakfast I presented my months worth of planning our route from Cleveland Ohio to the Finger lakes as well as the best route around the lakes with many adult beverage stops along the way. My riding partners were very impressed with all my planning and were looking forward to all the fun and adventure that awaited us........Then i told them the bad news........We were going to Ride to New York to sit in a Hotel and watch it rain!!!!!!! Out comes the map!!!!!! While sitting finishing breakfast with much discussion about "should we chance it?" Where is it not raining?" Just head in one direction and stop when we get tired" My friend Eric said " I heard of a place southwest of here that someone told me about. I have never been there and don't know much about it. I think its over here somewhere (pointing at map). Then I say "Hey!!!! I know someone who lives there".....So I start to explain to my friends how I know this person and I have never really met him but talked to him many times on the Internet......Well that brought up a whole bunch of debate on strangers on the internet and such. I assured my friends that Mike is not going to cut us up and bury us in his backyard under his Tomato plants and to trust me!!!! So out comes the cell phone and a quick second later a friendly voice on the other end "Hey Joe whats up.....Long time no talk" Then I say " Hey Mike I am thinking bout heading your way" a lot more conversation and we had a plan. Not only did Mike offer to open up his home to me AND my guests as well. But he also offered to show us around his beautiful town. I politely declined the offer to stay at his place to which Mike found us an awesome Hotel right on the water. Mike was such a great host and did such a great job being a tour guide, we are planning another trip to Grand Lake in the early fall (complete with pontoon boat this time). I am so happy I stumbled on this great group of folks and just want to formally thank Mike for the awesome time we had as well as the horrible hangover we had the next day.....LOL And as a bonus Scott (whfan74) was there the next day and I got to meet him too!!!!!!! And on a side note this was one of the best trips I have been on and not a minute of planning went into it......

Hi guys, Had a pretty nice weekend! I ended up only being able to stay at charlotte for half the show....but still had lots of fun and was able to make some nice purchases! I just brought my 702 to the show this year. Also, today stevasaurus stopped by our place and picked up some blueberries so he can make wine....had a nice visit with him. Lonny(otrelwood) and his son also stopped by later in the day to pick up a parts tractor. Had a great visit with them as well. At the show I ended up bringing home two nice tub carts from whlpny...one is really nice and the other one is nice, but not as nice as the other. The nicest one is a 78 and the other is a 81. Also got some clintons from smoreau, a k90 oil bath air cleaner from new2horses, a nice k91 shroud from kelly for my rj58 project, and some other small parts. Stevasaurus also gave me most of a 3 piece trans to learn on. I might need a couple parts for it, but it is mostly there. Here's some pictures of what I bought.

I started a preservation effort on my new to me 310-8 today. I'm calling it a preservation rather than a restoration because I'm not ready yet to dive into a total teardown and rebuild. I like to tinker with stuff as much as anybody, I guess, but I want to keep this tractor running and working during the process. So I pulled off some sheet metal, found more rust on the backsides too - so I'm glad I'm getting to this now. Found a place on the gas tank bracket where two bolts were missing - also glad to find this now rather than have trouble later. Next I'll do some more degreasing and getting the rusty stuff ready to repaint. I didn't find any real bad surprises today so I say I'm off to a good start. I'll get some pics up soon for all the picture junkies. Thanks for stopping in. Tim

Ok guys post what ya got. Somehow I only managed to take 1 so here it is. Kelly another fine show even though it was not well attended. I sure hope the fair board is gracious and we have one next year. If we do we need to fill that place....

Hello all, Today we have been working hard on getting a C120 running, it had been found deep in the back of a shed/barn and hasn't been touched for 3 years, everything was rusted solid, the tractor was reasonably solid, but the clutch and break was rusted solid, the deck lift arm, all 4 wheels where flat, and the engine looked awful, We weren't too worried about the tractor at the time we just oiled everything up and let the oil do its work, we went straight to work on the engine, we drained the oil and petrol, blew the lines though and cleaned them out, refilled with new oil, took the carb off, cleaned it all out, took the jet screw off and unblocked the needle holes, put it all back together, filled the tank with petrol, charged up the battery, turned the key after a few times of it turning over, she fired up... So what was an old no gower, is now a Nice running c-120 took her for a good test drive all gears, runs sweet as! Got a few pictures, not too many great ones as was more focused on working and getting it running before the rain hit,

Joe...you could not have picked a nicer place to go. Any time you get to meet the people that you talk to on RS is a +...you knew that. KC...just because you are parked at a bar...does not mean you are drinking. They usually have the best burgers, tunes, company...ohh...and guess what...iced tea and sodas...why would you stop at a fast food joint??? The atmosphere is right for riding and stopping at these places. Guilty of some kind of profiling???..just saying. Stop in the next time you see a bunch of bikers at a "bar"...they are probably teachers, lawyers, doctors and even laymen that are helping to bring up your kids. My 2 cents.

Just thought id make an account and stop creeping. Lol. Lots of good info on here and thought id say thanks. My son saw me redo my 76 Deere and next thing I knew his 63 857 showed up in my shed. Needless to say its been a love hate project. Hard to get a 16 yrs old to come help on HIS tractor. Lol. We have topped the hill and sliding down the other side now. Bad thing..he took it apart and left dad to put it together. Going to tackle the wiring tonight and if he gets here after work, yeah I can't fault him for having a job, I'm going to have him strip the paint off the front wheels. Decals may get put on this weekend. If I can figure out how I'll get some pics up. Thanks again for all the great info you guys and gals post.

Where 'bouts in Pennsy? I'm just south of Allentown. Air pressure both front and rear is 12 psi. Torque is (like duh), I don't know. Never bothered to torque the lug nuts bolts, just tight. One of my favorite "upgrades" is to ditch the lug bolts. From the back of the hub, 7/16-20 x 1-1/2" bolts. I use a small washer and Blue Threadlocker® installing the bolts. From the auto supply 7/16-20 open end acorn lug nuts. Done. Sure makes life easy mounting heavy tires. Just hang 'em on the bolts, spin on and tighten lug nuts. Done.

...one axle has a key way and one don't??? by the one pic it has been filled and ground down...which is bad news....the other key way is shot!....either gonna need a set of axles or have keys ways cut into those...I have spare axles on hand but you wouldn't like the price to ship them to ya...

You know what KC...Joe was just saying he had a nice time meeting a good member on RS...and basically you came in a ran his thread in the ground and out the window...not cool mate. Just saying.

Here is the pics I took...really just the people... Henny, Bob, Lonny, my wife Chris (first time at Charlotte), sousa...knowing it might be the last show there,,,we really did need to cut up a table. Lonny's son Eric joins in the fun... I had to get in the picture... No horses of picnic tables were hurt in these pictures... Ken (Chevelltown) stopped by for a chat...thanks Duke (corrected) Scott.(smoreau)..one of the best members you ever want to meet... Duke with his Grand daughter Henny... she is growing up real quick... Shorts (Paul) and his wife Sharon...hearts larger then life, these two... Erik Red horse and my wife Chris... My friends from Paw Paw that I have not seen is some years came down to the show...(Don & Nellie) and the Wheel Horse Community there took them in and made them feel really welcome...shot the breeze all afternoon...it was great seeing them again. Did I mention that Don was an instructor at Michigan State and we were sitting in Duke's tent.?? Duke had his usual Michigan garb on...kinda went with Sousa's Ohio State tent...good conversation for sure... Duke being camera shy...not like him... TJ shows up....how cool is that..?? The Scott (smoreau) and I took a walk around the site and he had exactly what I was looking for...a hitch that I could mount on my B-100 for towing my boat around...Thank You Scott...always great seeing you.....I'm liking this hitch. Stopped at Jake's on the way back...gave me 60 lbs of blueberrys which will make 30 gals of home made wine...put it together today...be about a year to drink...thanks to Jake and Doug Kuhn.. The white stuff on the top is yeast...stirs in after tomorrow and starts the fermentation....I think it will be TOP SHELF.. Had a great time at the show...may have been the last year (that is the bad side)...Kelly and his family did an excellent job again...and it was nice seeing Perry, Bob Rock and a few others. Thanks to all that had a hand in the show.

Good news then, I have these. I already replaced the handle bracket, but haven't swapped out the bumpers.

Pretty sure the 4 wheel wagon uses the same tires as the tub cart 4.80x8 see if the wheels are on backwards with the long part of the hub facing out instead of in??

Nice see-in ya again Jake Tracey bought 5 lbs of them blueberries from ya, Think I'm gonna have blueberry waffles for dinner tonight. You'll have to post us a video of your harvester running. We never had blueberries on the Farm but we hand picked about everything else our main crop was Strawberries back in the day I think we topped out a 9 acres. So I can understand how much work you guys are doing. You'll take that work effort with you the rest of your life. I know I did.

Thanks, I put a huge amount of work into it as it was a real basket case, but it is a 10ft 5m/hr tractor.... Looks great at 10ft goin by at 5 mph. And the cheater SS parts help draw the eye away form all the pits and dents I did not have time to correct.

I love the looks of the GT14. So much I just bought two. One too restore and the other for parts. You got a great deal as I payed more for mine and it dosnt look as nice.
  29. 1 point
After you remove the rust...how are you going to reattach that paint?
  30. 1 point
Sounds like you need to remove the axle and bend the frame brackets back in shape, I'm guessing the rear bracket is bent backwards, with the pin sliding back, Squonk is right probably the pin needs to be replaced, most do anyway, people don't grease that point often enough.

Always wanted a Steiner & come across a Turf Master model. Not sure of the year, but it's an 18HP model with a 48" front mount mower deck & blade, it's all wheel drive, center steer & the dump bed raises hydraulically with a tail gate release. The Briggs twin runs a little ruff yet & the tractor leaks a little at one of the valves, but otherwise runs out pretty well & it's pretty handy for hauling stuff around the property. My son Tay thinks it's the coolest tractor I've had yet.

I finally got the small parts back from the painter this morning and I was able to get a little more put back together. All that's left to paint is the engine and the motor generator, those get dropped off in the morning. With any luck, I'll have those back this week. I know one thing, it takes me a lot longer to put one of these together than it does to take it apart.
  36. 1 point
well at least you got rid of the c160, 42 in mower deck ,lawn sweeper, tiller, an roundhood snowthrower or it would be kinda full in there!

And I swapped some front red logo hub caps for 10# the best and largest blueberries ever. I'm very happy with my trade. I believe Jake said they have harvested something like 189,000 pounds of Blueberries this year on their farm in South Haven, MI. WOW!

In general, proper torque spec is a function of the bolt size and thread pitch, the MATERIAL of the bolt AND the material it is threaded into. There is a 'standard' that has been set by the SAE and is available all over the internet. Search for something like " torque spec chart ". Here's one: http://www.portlandbolt.com/technicalinformation/bolt-torque-chart.html Too much torque on a fastener and it becomes stressed (elongated) and can of course break. It will also damage the threads. Too little torque and the fastener can loosen. There is a lot more to the 'science' of torque specs... for example, a wheel lug is designed with a tapered seat, and the wheel itself has a 'raised' portion around it. This raised portion is in fact a 'spring' of sorts. If you over-torque this type of fastener, you are defeating the purpose of the design by 'flattening' the spring and not allowing it to do the job it was designed for. An experienced mechanic soon gets a 'feel' for how tight fasteners need to be and probably doesn't need to use a torque wrench for every single bolt they tighten. That said... I'm kinda with Wheel-N-it and say to just tighten them snug... and EVENLY, the same snugness on each one... it's not 'rocket surgery'... but understand that a 1/2" drive wrench would make it very possible to easily exceed the torque spec of the lugs. Unlike Wheel-N-It, I can't help but overthink stuff... just my nature and my engineering background. I use around 25-30 lb-ft on my machine. In 30 years I've never had one loosen up. 25-30 lb-ft is not that much. You can easily exceed this with even a 3/8" ratchet. Get out your torque wrench and tighten a few to 30... then with your 3/8" drive ratchet, try and tighten and loosen a few without the torque wrench and get a feel for how tight (or loose) that actually is. I think you will be surprised that it isn't NEARLY as tight as you think it should be. Tighten them to 30 lb-ft with a torque wrench and go out and mow the grass. When you come back, check them again... just to give yourself a sense of security that they haven't loosened up.

this is what ive used for 20 years. its a 40 in long piece of i beam with key holes for a chain to go through. you can shorten the chain on one sid or the other to pull gravel to the side. you can turn it over for more down presure. you can put cement blocks on it for more weight. & with no weight it bounces enough to loosen the packed gravel. works great & i have built 5 or 6 for other people who are happy with them too ! alright, pulled the c125 out for some seat time today and snapped a few pics for this nomination........ out of all my tractors this is my favorite ride, its not a perfect rebuild, doesnt look perfect, didnt cost me a bunch of money to rebuild, and it got done in record time for me....... i pulled this one apart on the 5th july and by the 24th august it was basically done and the decals were going on.was working 50 hour weeks at work as well, so it was hectic to say the least....... i rebuilt nearly all of it except the engine and trans, more of a cosmetic and worn out rebuild, sheetmetal got the most attention as it had a hard life.....and repainted everything in that time. it was meant to be a quickie and i wanted to get it done asap. along the way it got a few small mods here and there..... since finishing it i have added the 520 tach, big rear wheels, scott moreau hitch and new tires all round. all the sheetmetal is powder coat and the engine and trans cast iron were done with rattle cans....... enjoy the pics and if you want to see the rebuild thread here it is...... heres a few pics of how it was back when i got it and from today....... the pics will go big if you click on them and want to look closer....... and a video thrown in too.......

I'll start by nominating my 145 "Marvin" A friend offered me this tractor for $150. It was a good runner but had a weak Hydro. I was looking for a tractor with hyd. lift to mount a tall shoot blower on and said to send me pics. What I saw was a pretty clapped out flat top. I never cared for the look of the black hoods but I figured the motor was worth the price. Here's how it looked when I got it and mounted the blower: RF of the hood was bashed in: Once I drove it I thought what a great tractor. Sweetest running Kohler I ever had. A littile birdie on the forum inspired me to fix it up and do something different. It would need a hood, fender and another hydro unit which I picked up at the big show. It's been a tough slog getting it all done in one month working late at work for 2 weeks but here it is. NOTE: I AM NOT A PAINTER! Looks like Marvin the Martian here: I don't like to blow my own horn but this was given to me by a very special forum member so It had to go on:

:wh: csy33 I will try to explain the way I do it 1 You find a good level spot. 2 Let the deck all the way down with your lift 3 Loosen the mule drive belt with the knob on mule drive 4 Take belt of center pully of mower 5 Push the button on the tack-amatic I think it will be on the left side,There is a claw like gaget swing it towards the front of tractor, that will let the front of the mower hanger drop down hopefully. 6 Look under about the middle of the tractor you will see the lift arm, it fits in a kind of elonggated slot, you will have to wiggle the lift peg out of the slot. On an automatic with Hydro lift like mine I loop a little cord on the lift to hold it up out of the way So I can slide the deck out.(Right Side) or the handle to rase the back wheels (will not come out from the left side with that handle sticking up it will not clear the under side of tractor. 7 With a lot It should come out The right side Hope I made it clear for you Chas :thanks:
