3 pointsI came to the shop this morning with good intentions to get some work done and a head start on Mondays list, but of course I walked out to the shop and decided it would be a good day to swap wheels & tires from one of my newly acquired 416-H tractors with my 520-H before getting to work in sign shop. Shouldn't take to long right? Wrong!!! The recently new turf saver tires on the 416 were full of water. I don't live in the mountains so I decided to pull the valve core and drain the liquid before putting them on the 520. Needless to say that was fun, NOT!! Finally got them swapped and decided to swap seats also. The 416 had a nice seat with no tears. six armrest bolts and of course one was rounded out so another hour messing with the NOT SO EASY OUTS. Finally got that swap completed about 1 pm so I decide to swap decks also. This was a bit easier and now I have a 42 inch SD on my 520 and the 36 RD is on the 416-H. Next step was to make sure the deck on the 416-H worked like it should but before going to mow I checked the oil level. To my surprise It showed way over full with fresh oil? Previous Owner said he had it serviced across the street from his house as he always does. I drained out about a pint and checked again. Still over the full mark so I drained a little more and it is now at the proper level. I had run this machine for about ten minutes when I got it home and didnt notice it smoking but still I don't feel right about it. As most of you know I bought 2 416's from this guy and he swore there was nothing wrong with them at all. Now I find that the one that runs is in need of a good carb cleaning or a kit as the choke needs to be on just a bit for it to run smooth. I do not find any indication of blown seals and it seems to be fine right now. I mowed about 10 minutes with it and it did a great job but I for sure feel that he misrepresented both tractors. Rookie mistake for not checking all this out before making the purchase. I am a trusting person and he seemed very honest but it is business and if you are selling something you should be 100% honest about the tractor your selling. My intentions were to swap out the deck seat and tirse from one and get the other running and then sell the 2 416's for a fair price. Have some fun and acquire a snow blower, bigger better deck, newer tires and a nicer seat for my 520. But it is never as easy as you think. Here are a few pictures after the swap. The 416-H has nicer skins than my 520 but hoping to completely restore it this winter. So it is now 5:30 pm Central and I am posting on RS instead of doing some artwork for jobs. But I did get some quality time with my Horses.

3 pointsI'm planning on all three days! Sunday I'll bring the kids with for the Day. Just hope I get the 606 done....not much time left and too much to do. If not , Andrew and I will have a couple of Lawn Rangers to drive and show.... Looking forward to seeing everbody there, including Martin and Denny this year!!!!

2 pointsAs usual while surfing cl came across an ad for 520 with 60 inch deck but motor out and apart.... Called the guy and ended up being a young guy who was selling his grandfather's (original owner) 520. it has been in his dad's barn for at least 4 years. I made an offer and he agreed so off I went. IMO I paid what the deck is worth. I have a low hour onan out of another 52o that is ready to drop in. Got it home and gave it a real good bath. Only has 309 hours on the clock. Looking at the engine it turns freely and the valves look good to me. I think the issue was electrical. Got her home and pressure washed it and the deck and here she is. My friend who is my neighbor has been looking for a nice 520 with the 60 inch deck so I think this will be heading next door since I already have two.

2 pointsYou bring up a good point Steve. Do we know this is on the up and up? Personally, I don't think I will be sharing my address with anybody I don't really know. "Oh, you have how many tractors at this address?".... Not saying this is the case, but you do need to be careful how you share info these days, I'm sure I don't need to remind anyone of that! 1 pointFirst time for trying to get a photo on here -- It says it is attached below I got this MacKissic Mighty Mac 12PT off of CraigsList today here in St. Louis for $375 -- Seems to be just what I wanted -- I had been looking at used DR's which were larger and 4X $s -- So right now I am pretty happy with this -- Geez these things are stout The guy I got it from said he purchased it 5(?) years ago online from back east -- Only reason I even knew about these things was because of the MacKissics that some of you have on your WHs -- Heck the users manual says that this unit was originally purchased from Emerich Sales and Service in Charlton, NY

1 pointSeem to have really taken a liking to this model but was wondering if there is anything to watch out for? Also google didn't yield many pictures - please post up some of yours!

1 pointI'm building a new fence and adding onto the goat "barn" so this guy had to come down. It has a bad cancer all the way around it, so I couldn't trust it to stay up. The wind was right today, so I got to it. This was the biggest I'd ever felled.

1 pointI got this contact through my webpage, and thought I'd see if there was anyone in the NW Illinois area who wanted to be a Wheel Horse ambassador to some visiting enthusiasts from Holland? If anyone is interested, I'll gladly pass on the email so you can contact them back and make arrangements!

1 pointcontact the company and you can order replacement parts for your broken one. but this all depends on how many broken parts you have as this can quickly cost as much as a new one in a hurry. I found a broken one that was the same as mine from a friend, and I grabbed a lot of spare parts when mine broke. If you can find the same one, you would have spare parts.

1 pointLars, thanks for the history you posted. Good news that you are up and running, it is always satisfying to hear it fire up for the first time. Much like RJ Picker, I like to see in work clothes.

1 pointi only have 7 and not really accommodated to handle 30 people here, but i could load up the trailer and bring a few to a location around joe or aj's. that wouldnt be too much of a problem... i think aj's would be ideal, maybe a few of us Illinois guys could gather there for a 'meet and greet'? get a good bunch of them together...... Jason, i remember talking with somebody on the forum from the qca, but memory is failing me now on a name or location......

1 pointHow odd is that . I bought a brand new canopy for the show i did at the weekend and there was a slight gust of went and the whole thing ended up in one pile on the floor , with the wife & dog underneath it. evryone at the show was laughing when my wife emerged from underneath , in fact it was priceless to see her crawl out with her hair all over the place .

1 pointMy Raider '68 12hp Kohler is a great Stallion! I keep up on maintenance, lube, oil, cleaning. Somewhat ridiculously, retired, having fun. Decals are new from http://www.redoyourhorse.com (quality and price are great). There are a number of pic's in my gallery, take a peek-a-boo.

1 pointI just bought one of these at Sam's Club.... It is Red and the logo ain't bad either, for some strange reason they had a ton of them left at our local Jackson, Mi. Sam's

1 pointSteve, sneak up to the Bears training facility and see if you can snag a tent. Might as well get a circus tent. We seem to have quite a few "acts" at the show! seriously though that's a bad break. It's wasn't one of the cheap ones. Best of luck finding a good one. Might want to set it up before the show to make sure it's ok. I bought a brand new one for this past show and decided I'd better set it up before leaving. good thing I did. It was broke right out of the box.
-
1 pointJeff, I just mentioned that to Craig in chat the other nite.... I need to roll it out and get some pics...
-
1 pointJust a suggestion, but try the Firestone tri-ribs. They seem to work good for me. Only problem is if the ground is soft from raining, then you might carve in a rib or two. Its only grass it will grow, just add water!
-
1 pointSteve don't show it off too much, I can remember when it was gold many yrs. ago... Its wicked nice. We saw a black one at the Monroe car show this past Friday night. I told Cole you have one just like it, but yours is nicer. My wife had to drag me to the car show. I no longer like going because I hate to just look. I miss the days of rollin into a car show with my 69 SS Chevelle.....

1 pointAnother step finished today Finished putting the HH60 short block together today...all outside surfaces were already blasted twice before(rust happens fast ). Then before I started painting I wiped all outside surfaces with cleaner, primed with high temp primer, then painted Red with dupli-color Engine Enamel. The pulley was powdered with the engine tins and the cylinder head you see is a junk one I lightly bolted on just for the paint job. The actual cylinder head for this engine will be just the natural aluminum color. Now I just need to keep on putting it together. The hardest part of that will be timeing the breaker point assembly with the engine.....I'm reading up on it tonight...we'll see .

1 pointToday the Johnny Bucket was moved from my trusty 312-A to the new to me 520-H. The wiring still needs to be completed as it will have a custom joystick in place of the two standard toggle switches that I used on the 312-A. The 520-H will also have one of Matt's pedal kits installed. Planned for the future are re-working the steering, 5-rib front tires and bar tires rear, and paint with fresh decals. The 312-A is moving to General duties and will receive new rear tires but lose the wheel weights. It may also get paint and decals as well. Before After

1 pointIf you make the trip you may ass well come home with a full load! It seems that I always end up going at least 500 miles per and I have a dozen of them. That is one nice 953, they are my personal favorate, nice going.
-
1 pointAfter an all day marathon yesterday to get my garage cleaned up and some other stuff around the house I took a better look at the motor that came with this tractor. Looks like the rear valve seat let lose (shocker) lol. I mounted up the spare onan I had and gave it a little compounding. It cleaned up pretty good. I need to mess with the wiring harness a bit and get it going!
-
1 pointHumm, play with your tractors...or work...what did you think was gonna happen silly? Happens to me all the time...actually, just took one to work with me this past Friday. Killed two birds with one stone that day.
-
1 pointVery interesting Holler. I have a few that need mending too. I think you should try to find a way to seal the gap between the deck and the patch metal with something to keep moisture out. Probably some kind of potting compound or lab metal?

1 pointI'll be Watching Holler1! . Got one myself to do. I'm luckier with the Shell being real solid, but the trailing Wheel height adjuster parts are mashed.

1 pointI got a text from Austyn this evening that he had won Grand Champion at the Carroll County 4H Fair for his restored 701. I headed over to the show to see him and the 701. GREAT JOB AUSTYN!!!

1 pointActually it's pretty quiet around here. Get up at 4:00 A..M. Fix all the screw-ups and try to keep about 1200 people happy and comfortable. Get home at 5:00 P.M. Eat and spend about an hour here trying to figure out who Craig is this week and hit the sack at 8

1 pointAnd pulled out the 606 today and dusted it off. Heres a few pics of the tractor after I pushed it out side and put some chrome parts on today. What you see is pretty much what it looked like when I put it away last fall. Looks nice but you can see the flaws when you get close. But its just a yard tractor so in time its sure to get scratched up anyway. Engines apart right now and I'm hoping to have it running by early August. heres a few pics....
