4 pointsWe spent last Sunday after Plain City picking 1953 Hiller Yard Hand 1950's Mow-Cycle

4 pointsThis Morning I used my RJ and tub cart to pick up flowers at one of the cemeteries that I take care of. What a beautiful day to be outside! Had a couple of early morning visitors. After they left I discovered that they both left me something else to pick up..... and it wasn't flowers!

3 pointsYep I'll be there Saturday, might have the wife too so I will have to behave, maybe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

2 pointsToday the Johnny Bucket was moved from my trusty 312-A to the new to me 520-H. The wiring still needs to be completed as it will have a custom joystick in place of the two standard toggle switches that I used on the 312-A. The 520-H will also have one of Matt's pedal kits installed. Planned for the future are re-working the steering, 5-rib front tires and bar tires rear, and paint with fresh decals. The 312-A is moving to General duties and will receive new rear tires but lose the wheel weights. It may also get paint and decals as well. Before After

2 pointsI finally ordered the shaft couplers I needed and they came in on Friday. Started working on the tractor that night. Did some more yesterday. I ate breakfast this morning then went down to the shop and went gang busters at it. Got the rear hubs all welded up and mounted to the existing axles. Mounted the rear tires and rolled it off the lift. I had to grease the front bearings as they were new and I had put them on during fabrication for fit. Got those done and remounted then outside she went. The battery was weak from sitting all winter so I had to start it with the jump pack. She fired right up and runs great. It drives perfect and the shifter works good. The steering is surprisingly very easy. I am thrilled at the way it came out. Now to paint the metal I added, the rear-end and touch up anything else that needs it. Can't wait to bring it to the next tractor show!!!

2 pointsI got a text from Austyn this evening that he had won Grand Champion at the Carroll County 4H Fair for his restored 701. I headed over to the show to see him and the 701. GREAT JOB AUSTYN!!!

1 pointHey Guys, I am currently working on rebuilding an 8 speed I had as a spare. It has 1 1/8" axles with the 8 pinion diff. This is the first 8 speed I have done, I have only done 4 speeds so far, haven't had the guts to try a rj trans yet. I opened up the trans and it looked great inside! It is in great shape! The gears are super nice and there is not much rust if any inside! I soaked everything in mineral spirits and everything cleaned up great. The bearings are all pretty nice. One of the needle bearings came apart after being soaked so I might just replace all the needle bearings in the case to be safe. The needle bearings in the gears will stay, they are good enough. I still have to sandblast the case. I sometimes glass bead the inside but this one is good enough, I just will blast the outside. So I just need to blast the case. Probably order some bearings, and then see if I can put it back together. I will just put a coat of primer on it and put it away. I have no use for it but wanted to see the inside of one. I got this trans off a tractor that was very cheap, and with the money I made off of selling whats left I can probably cover the cost of everything I used to rebuild this tranny. Here are pictures after everything has been cleaned up.

1 pointHello everyone I just joined the forum after cutting a deal on a 310-8. After having a Craftsman tractor for many years, I just wanted something better. I should be picking it up next weekend and will post some pics once I get it home. The tractor is in pretty nice shape and I was told by the widow and friends/neighbors that the previous owner really cared for the tractor. It started right up after a few years of sitting - no smoke and sounded good, pto engaged fine, trans worked good, etc .Looks like it just needs a battery. Has a 42 inch rear discharge deck. Also comes with a snowblower and cab, wheel weights and summer and winter tires and wheels. Looking foward to getting it home and giving it a good once over, and start using it. Some quick research tells me it's a K series engine, I believe. I'm sure I'll have some questions and I'm sure I've found the right place for them. Now I've got a real tractor. Thanks in advance. Tim

1 pointI came to the shop this morning with good intentions to get some work done and a head start on Mondays list, but of course I walked out to the shop and decided it would be a good day to swap wheels & tires from one of my newly acquired 416-H tractors with my 520-H before getting to work in sign shop. Shouldn't take to long right? Wrong!!! The recently new turf saver tires on the 416 were full of water. I don't live in the mountains so I decided to pull the valve core and drain the liquid before putting them on the 520. Needless to say that was fun, NOT!! Finally got them swapped and decided to swap seats also. The 416 had a nice seat with no tears. six armrest bolts and of course one was rounded out so another hour messing with the NOT SO EASY OUTS. Finally got that swap completed about 1 pm so I decide to swap decks also. This was a bit easier and now I have a 42 inch SD on my 520 and the 36 RD is on the 416-H. Next step was to make sure the deck on the 416-H worked like it should but before going to mow I checked the oil level. To my surprise It showed way over full with fresh oil? Previous Owner said he had it serviced across the street from his house as he always does. I drained out about a pint and checked again. Still over the full mark so I drained a little more and it is now at the proper level. I had run this machine for about ten minutes when I got it home and didnt notice it smoking but still I don't feel right about it. As most of you know I bought 2 416's from this guy and he swore there was nothing wrong with them at all. Now I find that the one that runs is in need of a good carb cleaning or a kit as the choke needs to be on just a bit for it to run smooth. I do not find any indication of blown seals and it seems to be fine right now. I mowed about 10 minutes with it and it did a great job but I for sure feel that he misrepresented both tractors. Rookie mistake for not checking all this out before making the purchase. I am a trusting person and he seemed very honest but it is business and if you are selling something you should be 100% honest about the tractor your selling. My intentions were to swap out the deck seat and tirse from one and get the other running and then sell the 2 416's for a fair price. Have some fun and acquire a snow blower, bigger better deck, newer tires and a nicer seat for my 520. But it is never as easy as you think. Here are a few pictures after the swap. The 416-H has nicer skins than my 520 but hoping to completely restore it this winter. So it is now 5:30 pm Central and I am posting on RS instead of doing some artwork for jobs. But I did get some quality time with my Horses.

1 pointcomes Home. About 3 months ago I made a package deal on a 310 and a 414. I got the 310 home and it is coming along slowly. I finally got the 414 home today. It will go in the shed until the 310 is done and the 160 is restored. A future project. Anyway here is a picture.

1 pointFor what it's worth, I have trailer tires pumped up to 90 psi on the front of my Power King FEL
-
1 pointthe more plys the better. look at the weight capacity of the tire. you want something that inflates to 50-60lbs, or higher(90psi). 2 ply probably wouldn't have the capacity to carry the extra weight of the fel, itself I've got 2 ply tires on the 310-8 , and even with tubes, they are just adequate for the tractor. I will probably have to upgrade to 4ply trailer tires when I put the mighty mac on the front.

1 pointThanks for the welcomes guys. Jake I looked at your site - I really like those 401's. I may have stumbled into another addiction here. My wife will be sooo... happy. Building wooden boats is the most current addiction - or maybe it's tractors now. Really I just want a good machine to cut grass and do snow and haul wood sometimes, but these things have a way of blossoming sometimes - we'll see...

1 pointSo, I am introducing myself even though I have been a member for 3 or 4 years now.... Anyway, here are some photos of my "herd"...unfortunately it shrunk by one last week...the 314 is sold but I think you can see my other "Stallion" in the background of the top photo..more on that later. I love this site; its a great resource and look forward to making it to the Big Show one of these years! I will add photos of my camp tractor in the coming weeks too. Happy "horsin" everyone!

1 pointWow !! That tractor looks great. When i read your posts you make it sound easy but i know there is a lot of work involved. I'm sure Ryan really appreciates it.
-
1 pointLooks great!! Hope for some great weather next Saturday so I can see it!
-
1 pointAll done, even washed, we took it to a parade sat. and it ran great with no problems at all, well that is one thing off a long list of things to do I can check off.
-
1 pointSomebody didn't have the correct size belt and made it adjustable. The shame is that it's a 4 digit serial # tag on there but it's nothing a few welds and some grinding can't fix.
-
1 pointHello all just popping in quick to see if anyone is off to Ringmer steam and country show tomorrow or over this weekend? Or am I going to be the lonely wheel horse exhibitor? On a plus side I've finally got some show information boards sorted out! With all my stickers you great UK wheel horse guys handed me over the weekend at ardingly. Now a few pictures for you guys! -Charlie

1 pointWe replaced 3 different circuit boards and a so called thermasistor which are normally what goes when you have heating issues. problem was that it would still not heat. Evidently when the bad circuit board finally failed it popped this little hidden fuse on the power board. I joked with the tech about my $800 fuse. Those parts needed changed anyway and it is performing like a brand new machine so I am happy happy happy. Still found time to play with a couple of my tractors last evening so it was a very good ending to a stressful day.

1 pointConnect the dead battery to a good battery positive to positive negative to negative. Then hook up your charger. This will trick the charger into charging the dead one.
-
1 pointActually it's pretty quiet around here. Get up at 4:00 A..M. Fix all the screw-ups and try to keep about 1200 people happy and comfortable. Get home at 5:00 P.M. Eat and spend about an hour here trying to figure out who Craig is this week and hit the sack at 8

1 pointThe last time I saw this 701, it had been sandblasted, but was sitting in a pile waiting to be primed. I know that Austyn had hoped to get it together in time for the big show, but as we all know, these things take a lot of time and patience. So, having said that, I am glad you are taking your time to do it right. As a side note, Austyn is 14 years old, and the previous owner of my recently acquired Lawn Ranger. I am really glad to see young members like him, Jake Kuhn, and others carrying on the hobby.
