Saw this on CL and showed my wife and she said lets go look at it, so who am I to say no. Once I drove it and played with the bucket I had to have it and she said yes. It will cost me more down the road but I will deal with that later. The gentleman is even going to deliver it for me. Been waiting a long time for a front end loader can't wait to play with it . The Plain City Steam Thresher's Show was last weekend. Here's a pic of my buddy Packrat's (not the packrat here on Redsquare) and some of my WH's at the show this year. I had 8 old girls there and my buddy brought in 7 of the little buggers! This is our usual set up for most of the tractor shows we got to. Garden tractors were the featured machines this year and we took over the place pretty good! The VGTCOA was in town and there was a lot of cool old garden tractors around. Saw a few Redsquare members here too. I'll wait for them to post pics of their stuff. Glad to see my Redsquare buds and some of them even brought their wives! I left mine at home of course, hehe! Click on the pic for a bigger pic.

Picked up some engine parts from the powder coater today. Looks Nice! But the gas tank didn't fare so well. the solder melted during the heating process and fell apart .....so I'm having it welded by a gas tank guy and then getting it re-powdered next week. for some reason the parts in the pic look blotchy. But to the naked eye they look nice!!

I refurbed a B-100 auto for my youngest son Ryan, in 2008 he was 8 years old so the hydro was the way to go much easier to drive, well at the time, I was pressed for time trying to build 2 tractors in about 6 weeks so I put a good running 8hp Kohler in it, tractor was and is mostly a show tractor but gets the wheels driven off it at the shows, as the years went on he asked if we could rebuild the orig. 10hp, I put it off as the 8 hp ran great and I could never find the time to do it right, well this year I went in the barn to move tractors out and get them ready for the up coming shows, his puked gas out the carb and would not start, I know a simple carb cleaning and all would be good, BUT I bought a C-100 with a near new 12hp in it a few years ago, had about 50 hours on a NEW kohler engine, I tried selling it a few times but I guess $400 was to much, because I still have it, so the other night me and Ryan pulled the tractor out and fired it up to make sure all was good after setting a few years, yup runs like a top, so out it came, tore the tins off cleaned it up, mind you this needs to be done in about 10 days for the MI WH show, so clean up was bare min. I dug out the paint left from his tractor build so the color would be the same, and shot it today, I think he is pretty happy he's getting a 12hp, kinda a bonus for his 13th B-day last week, hard to believe it was 5 years ago we built his and his brothers tractors, any way here is a few pics of the engine update, and more to come in the next week. Here is what we had when finished 5 years ago with the 8hp Here is the donor tractor giving up it's heart to another machine Here is Ryan winning his first trophy 5 years ago, he has won a few more since then.

I have been going to the Wheel Horse Show in PA since the 3rd one, and my son (who is 9), has been to the Show every year but one. I have tried to talk my Dad into going for years and he never would, but once my son got old enough to ask him.....he started going.......go figure . In fact, he has gone with us the past 3 years. It has become the trip that all three of us really enjoy getting to spend time together. This past show, my Dad said he was looking to buy an old round nose Wheel Horse, but we didn't find any he liked. When my Dad was growing up his family had a Wheel Horse Suburban that they mowed, plowed the garden, etc., so I completely understand his desire to get a "Round Hood". While snooping on Craigslist, I noticed a 702 for sale about 10 minutes from the house. They also had a 855 or 856 for sale as well. The lady called me this evening and asked if I was still interested and I said yes. It was raining, so I wasn't the most motivated person to go an hook up the trailer and drive into town to look at it. I asked if I could stop out around 8:30pm to look and she said fine. I pulled in and right behind me pulled in another person pulling a trailer. She showed me the tractor and said it ran before it was parked, but she didn't even know how to start it. After seeing the sheet metal was in very good shape and all original, I said I will take it. I must say, if I would have got there about 15 minutes later, the other guy would have stole this one out from under me as he was drooling all over the 702, as he was looking at the 855 and I think he would have taken both. So....my Dad's birthday is in November and I needed a place to store this tractor so I took it to my brothers who has a pole barn and we will hide it under a tarp. We plan on giving it to him so he and my son can restore it together over the winter. Hopefully, they will be able to bring it to next years show!!! Thad (Ohio)

Saw an ad on Craigslist for a Wheel Horse cart. It was located about 114 miles from me, but I thought I'd take a chance on it. The wife and I hopped into the van yesterday and headed out to central PA. After a 228 mile round trip, and a stop at the Cracker Barrel for dinner, here's what followed me home. It's a 7-2211-8, 1973 Two-Wheel Cart Not bad shape for a 40 year old tub.

on most of my 'rebuilds' there is a fair bit of money in them. keeping in mind that -i do all the work myself, -no more than rings, hone, new gaskets etc on the engine block, rebuilt carb, pump, rebuilt or new engine electrical on the engines. -rebuilt unidrive, (havent done a hydro tractor as yet) -all or as much as possible paint is powdercoat done at my employ for free. -most of the sheet metal is used again or sometimes only one or two pieces are replaced with less damaged or less rusty pieces..... - i try to go through everything, cosmetically, mechanically or both. numbers wise, without pointing out which tractor is which, i have between $800 on the 'easy', 'quick' one up to $1200 on the most expensive.( these are just estimates and i really dont want to sit down with all the saved receipts and add it up) this doesnt include initial purchase price, just parts that are worn out, tires, electrical wiring, bearings, seals, gaskets, fasteners etc etc. once again, the majority of my paint and all bead blasting/surface prep is free, so that doesnt even come into it. sounds like a lot on just parts, but if you really pull out all the receipts on say just fasteners and small parts that come from the local toro and napa dealers, and add it all up, it adds up really quick! and who ever thinks about the amount of gas they go through running around getting stuff? im just happy that i have a hobby that doesnt take up a lot of room. .......well when you start out with the first couple, maybe....

I have read this post a few times, and started a reply a few times, but did not want to offend anyone, a Complete restore, not a fix up and repaint, but a true restore to like new or better than new condition, every nut and bolt removed engine rebuilt, trans rebuilt ect...... I can see several thousand dollars that would be a restore, a refurbish to very good condition near new, maybe not rebuild the engine, or trans, reseal them and inspect, new paint, decals, good used seat, nice used tires, maybe not perfect, but very nice, (depending on what you start with) and using good paint automotive quality, I can see $600 to 1500 lower end if your starting with a nicer machine. this is not counting cost of tractor.

I gave her a bath , found a clutch pulley and seat in my "junk" pile. Also pulled the deck for a good cleaning. The pulley area under the belt guard was packed with grease and grass. I'm surprised it didn't catch on fire. The belt tensioner spring was broken and the tensioner bar was locked in the nylon slides. Removed , cleaned , and repaired all this. Put a 1/8" rubber gasket on the belt guard to keep the grass out. Need a tail light lens yet, then she's ready to work.

I basically agree with Ken. I had an Economy 2418 and it was a beast and can't be compared to cubs or horses. My first garden tractors were cubs. Over the past few years I have had a 104, 127,169, 1200 and a few others. They are quite sturdy and gave me the impression of being heavier built than horses BUT I didn't sense any difference in pulling power when it came to tree limbs, mold board plows etc. The main difference that I noticed between cubs and horses, especially pre blackhoods horses, is the ease of maintenance and the ease at which I can work on them. When I got my first horse, a B 80, I was amazed at the simplicity of the design. The belt drive is simple, the brakes are simple, the "clutch" is simple. The PTO is simple, no hidden set screws like the cub has. Cubs are over engineered in my opinion. So for me it's a no brainer. Although I like IHCC's a lot, I am phasing out my cubs and it's horses in my future.

That tractor looks really good Kelly. I know you have a lot of work in it but you have a one of a kind tractor.

I have owned MANY of the three you have listed. I would have too say best OVERALL is Wheel Horse. They are all pretty darn tough. For me it all comes down to parts availability, cost and which one do you enjoy working on the most. I only liked the earlier round fenders Cubs myself... I really do like the late 60's early 70's Sears Suburbans. I haven't had much trouble with the larger Tecumseh engines and they have plenty of power. I've also owned 3 or four different Power King/Economy's. They are quite honestly in a league of their own when it comes down to reliability and ruggedness. They are built like a brick poop house.

Fantastic work on that tractor Kelly. Looks like a factory assembled tractor. Not too mention, it is just plain MEAN lookin.

I could see it bringing something close to that, it would have to be real minty though. Yours may honestly be like new but I've seen some tractors that the owner described as looking like new that made me want to strangle them.....

Hello been lurking for a short while, then decided to join. Not sure if I put this in the right category, but I'm sure someone will fix it if its wrong. Just finished restoring a 53' Pond walk away and its sickle mowing unit today. I'll try and post a picture here and see if that works. I'm a collector of mostly walk-behind tractors, so I wont be posting about any of the newer Wheel horse models,,,sorry. I'm still looking for more info on my tractor. Maybe someone out there knows someone who has some brochures or other items that would show the attachments, available for them. Thanks for your time. Jeff

We do most everything as a family, (even eat dinner at the table together most every night) I have raced cars for 30 years that is my first love as hobbys go, and they are VERY involved in that, a family that plays together stays together, and that includes the wife, daughter and both boys, as they get older they all want their own race cars.

I got a nice 1958-59 Wheel Horse snow plow mounting system for $40.00. I need this for my very nice condition RJ58 snow plow that I bought for $20 from Craigslist. It had a mangled up rear mounting bar and no side plate brackets. So now I have a very nice RJ58 snow plow set up for $60.00! Can't beat that. I also got this rare early WH reel mower mounting bar, or so that is what the seller told me. I didn't need it but if it is a reel mower mount, it is pretty rare. I couldn't beat the price at $20.00!! I may end up selling the reel mower mount and side plates. But not for $20.00 hehe! I also got a 1960-61 WH steering gear for $20.00. Not too bad, I'll just throw it on the parts shelf! KJ

And pulled out the 606 today and dusted it off. Heres a few pics of the tractor after I pushed it out side and put some chrome parts on today. What you see is pretty much what it looked like when I put it away last fall. Looks nice but you can see the flaws when you get close. But its just a yard tractor so in time its sure to get scratched up anyway. Engines apart right now and I'm hoping to have it running by early August. heres a few pics....

Uh-not trying to split hairs, but here are just 2 unbiaseds website that tested several oil products. Amsoil #1. As stated in the best site Amsoil would have been rated #1 if it were not for the price. Because of the price it is often left out of many tests done. So, you decide. I don't take a products, own claims, as being the best. I look for unbiased sites and opinions before I make my choice. http://www.thedirtforum.com/oils.htm http://www.bestcovery.com/best-synthetic-oil

Amsoil, check it out. The tests speak for themselves. Against Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Lucas, ect.
