Guys and Gals, it doesn't even have to be a steep incline as I learned last night with these ramps. I was idling my little RJ into the shed, and lost forward momentum at the point where the rear wheels were just about to crest the rise of the ramps...when it happened. Reared up, with the front wheels standing straight up into the air. Dumped me off the back, on my butt...luckily I was able to straight arm the tractor, and keep in from toppling over on me. Lucky for me the wife had just gone into the house, and didn't witness this happen. Always use caution, as any change in elevation can be a hazard, not just the "steep hills."

Ken's right. Seat $100 cleaned up hubcaps $100. Now you have $100 invested in the rest. Put the muffler guard on E-bay- CHA-CHING!!

Yesterday my friend went over a bank and managed to jump clear as his 310-8 went down the bank. He has a broken wrist and ankle and a thousand cuts from the blackberry patch he ended up in because he was mowing too steep a grade. As we talked about it I told him the cause (other than being stupid enough to try mowing that steep a hill) was that the brakes stop the transmission, not the wheels, so when he was loosing traction and tried to stop the free wheel stopped while the traction wheel was still rolling. I will say one thing that won't be a big suprise to anyone, the came out a lot better than he did! As for me I will avoid the temptation to cut steep slopes, I had an old Craftsman rider on top of me 35 years ago, the Lord kept me safe then and I am not about to try that again.

The damage you do to yourself, much less your tractor, is not worth it. The manual on the 520 advises no more than 15 degrees vertical slope, and no more than 5 degrees side to side. You can starve your engine of oil, you can roll your tractor, you can lose traction and slide until you hit something solid... I damn near roled my 520 down a hill and into a lake two years ago. Exciting, yes! But very, very bad. Weights, chains, ags be damned. The penalty for screwing up is a #700 tractor sitting on your chest. Do not do this.

Howdy Folks. Thanks for hosting, what looks like an informative board here for us WH afficianados. We have a farm here in SW Ontario, so lots of grass to cut. 3 Toro/WH models here. Our original 312-8. We bought it new, well over 20 years ago. After that we got a used 518-H. Nice, twin..lots of power. But it seems to have a rough running issue I will ask about later. We also recently bought a used 416-H w/hydraulic lift. Again, nice rig, but I have a question for the experts on why the lift isn't working. I'll post that over in Implements and attachments? Like I said, we farm here in SW Ontario. I also have a couple Camaros. 86 IROC Z that I bought new,and a 69 convert, that is currently under construction. Also collect old redline Hot Wheels, so keep me in mind if you come across any nice examples. Looking forward to learning from the community here. Thanks. Frank

Went in the barn and said hey guys weed day. They commenced whininnying raring to go. They all wanted to pull the sprayer. 141 was all decked out with loader, 111 ready with snow blower, B80 in first stages of refurb, 145 has mower, Sk486 under the weather, 310 getting battery charged, D200 in refurb, D250 ready but D's too big. Meanwhile the 100 is sitting next to the sprayer saying me, me, me. Couldn' stand to hear him beg so hooked up and away we go. Sprayed all the weeds and we both had a good day.

Hey man, Been there done that. I created me a checklist I always go over before I mow. 1. Helmet 2. Fire suit 3. Fire extenguisher 4. Somebody on standby to radio in for help 5. Check for mouse nests cuz them things can cause fires. 6. Check headlights and tailights if driving on public roads. 7. Fill the engine back up with oil(after a rollover oil level is liable to be low if it come out the carbatater) 8. Check the clutchs funktionality so no colisionz ocur(ask me why I know)

Wheel Weights and Body English do it for me. I did almost turn my 416 over about a month ago but I think that was because it has Cub Cadet wheels on the front and I was not holding my tongue right when I went off camber

I've put one hr. on it. It's just to damn nice to use. Kicking around the idea of selling it to fund a NICE 416-h.

My '74 C-120 w/HH120 Tecky has been mowin ,blowin,plowin, rollin,sweepin, fertilizing,weedin and sweepin since I bought her in 2000. PO said he just had the Tecky "overhauled" and now it was hard starting. I put on a new starter, cleaned all the elec. connections, and have never touched it since.

I love my Featherlite. I had a HD diesel with a 18 ft gooseneck that I have used to haul horses around for 10 years. However, I had not even been driving it 3-4K miles per year (mostly sitting in the garage). Decided to sell the truck and gooseneck because my wife has a nice Z71 Suburban and I figured if I could find the right trailer.....I wouldn't miss the truck and gooseneck. One of the key things I was looking for was a 77" wide, which would allow me to get a 520 with a 60" deck on easy. This setup lets me haul two horses very easy. I am usually pretty patient, so I watched Craigslist for about 3 months when this 2008 Featherlite listed. I didn't get it for a song....but I saved over a $1,000 off of a new one. And the nice thing about aluminum is you can't even tell it' a 2008! It has LED lights too. The only thing I wish it had was a foldable tailgate, as that thing is a parachute. When empty, I lay it flat and I notice I get about 2-3mpg improvement. Other really nice thing is....it is light, only 699#'s and I can move anywhere I want without having to hook it up. I am looking to add a tongue tool box so I don't have to pack my straps along too. I will not buy another trailer that doesn't have EZ lube bearings either.....can't believe how nice that invention is!!!! Thad (Ohio)

Be careful though, I got one that had a shattered rod but still ran. Pull the rear plug wire while it's running and see if the sound changes, onans can still have pretty good power when they're only running on one cylinder. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 4 Beta

If that tractor runs good it wouldn't matter to me if it had 3000 hrs on it at that price. Shoot the seat looks real nice and that seat will set ya back 100 bucks. it looks like it will clean up nice. If they'll take a little less that is even better.

After seeing some of the prices being asked for rusty Wheel Horses, I think I'm going to convert some of my 'parts tractors' to restoration projects. I picked up a Suburban 400 in pieces, and a rusty Rj-58 without a hood, both with the intention of scavenging them for parts to restore other tractors. Now I think I'll restore them, polish them weekly, tuck them in at night, and put heating blankets over them during the winter, now that I know what they're worth. I guess ridiculously high prices are a cure for the Wheel Horse addiction. Oh well, I was running out of space in my barn anyway. Jim

Nice little ranger there jake have been wanting one for a while

Well...............long day at work started by a blinking non-functioning alarm clock due to a power outage. (West Penn's squirrels must have walked off the job)! Got home to mow my hay fields due to the constant rain we have had! 310 ran, mowed then wouldn't shut off with the key! jiggled a bit and turned it off and on and it finally shut off but I forgot to punch the throttle and it backfired in the garage enough to ring both ears for awhile! Next................Checked the oil on the 520-H, fired it up and put my ear muffs on and it stalled. Fired it again and my dash gauges went out! Opened the hood and saw a wire on the regulator off. Put a new end on two of the three and re-crimped the second wire on the first terminal and checked. Still out! Checked the 15amp fuse. Blown! Replaced it! Good! Pulled her out front and dropped the deck, engaged the PTO and rototilled a six foot section of the lawn! Then I remembered when I got off the tractor during the "fix" earlier, I kicked the height adjustment getting off the seat! I didn't think about it then. It WAS all the way forward. I usually keep it as it is pictured then just drop the deck. (Learning moment guys)! I think I'm going down to the Amish farm and buying some goats.

Nice husky stance on that axel, like the way it looks like gonna jump. Mine has the flatter axel , more timid lookin. Ended up putting C-120 tires/wheels on it, looks much stronger. Know the hard core restorers will hit me hard for that!!!

I want to nominate my c161 8 speed. It was a P.O.S. when i bought it on E-BAY around 2005. It was painted med. metalic blue. & didn't run, I striped the paint ,rebuilt the engine, widened the rear wheels & put on new decals, I know the ones on the hood are on the wrong side but too bad! I put a complete NOS. sleve hitch on it & it's my plow, disc, dirt tractor. one of my favorites! As you can see im not afraid to get it dirty or work it hard. thanks Jay In NC

This might help. if have both pieces . I have taken a 3/8" lock washer and spread it apart and ground about a 1/8" off one of ends. Then flatten it then squeeze it around the ball end. Put the ball end back in the socket and mig weld the washer on the sides. Grind it down some and you still put the rubber boot on it. It will last for years. I can post a picture if needed. BOWTIE

Well, got them painted Not terribly hard to get onto the rims with lots of soap, but very hard to get air into... Didn't fancy the ice road truckers method - lighter fluid or ether. So went for the ratchet straps. And once inflated they look like this! Voila... Just in case the weather turns this weekend for Ardingly, thought I'd try them on my car

In 1974 my father bought a brand new C160 Automatic, 36" RD deck, dump cart and Parker Sweeper to replace our junkyard Springfield. During my mowing years, I used this tractor every week. We didn't have a snow blade or blower so it was a summer tractor only. My father passed away in 1991, and my mother kept the tractor. When I bought my house in 1993, I bought my brand new 416-H because of the experience with the C-160. Well, my mother moved and no longer needed a tractor, gave the C160 to my brother and God knows what happened to it but sad to say it's gone. I had wanted to have a father / son project and thought what better tractor to get than a C-160 Automatic. Looking around all I could find was an old Electro and C-120 Automatic. A short time later Eldon (kj4kicks) found a C-160 somewhere in the midwest. It ran but wasn't much to look at. He offered to go pick it up (he was going that way anyway) bring it back and trade the Electro and C-120 for it. I agreed because it would complete the cycle from my father, to me to my children. Well, I went to pick up my C-160, expecting to get a rusty old tractor, but instead I received this: It turns out that with a collection from the members, and Eldon's awesome talent, he dismantled the tractor, painted it, and put it together. There was only a few odds and ends for me to complete. It was a complete surprise and I am still in awe of what everyone had done for me. This is one C-160 which is truly a RedSquare tractor, and it is my entry for this month's category!

You know I originally started painting a few farm tractors for a friend of mine and mostly IH's. So when I started picking up Wheel Horses red was what I was used to. Now some years later I have red paint on pretty much everything I wear including my tennis shoes. I know there are many on here who like to keep their tractors with the original paint on them but when you put one of those next to a freshly painted one, I just can't help myself.
