4 pointsHi all, A week or so ago I traded my dad my rj59 for this little ranger. It came in the lot of tractors he bought last fall and it was one of the tractors I really wanted that I knew he might not care about so much. It is the recoil start, wish it had electric. I got it to run last night, I rebuilt the original carburetor for it, but could not get it to run without starting fluid, I ended up putting a carter model N on it and got it to start. I will put the original back on after I soak it in carb clean and then try it again. It has an original wheel horse back rest on it which is kind of neat, I might end up stealing it for my 702, but will have to see if I like it on here. It came with a mower deck, but I took it off. I need to build an extension for the right side foot rest, its kind of hard to keep your foot on there when its only an inch or two long. Anyway...Here are pictures. ~ Jake

2 pointsWell...............long day at work started by a blinking non-functioning alarm clock due to a power outage. (West Penn's squirrels must have walked off the job)! Got home to mow my hay fields due to the constant rain we have had! 310 ran, mowed then wouldn't shut off with the key! jiggled a bit and turned it off and on and it finally shut off but I forgot to punch the throttle and it backfired in the garage enough to ring both ears for awhile! Next................Checked the oil on the 520-H, fired it up and put my ear muffs on and it stalled. Fired it again and my dash gauges went out! Opened the hood and saw a wire on the regulator off. Put a new end on two of the three and re-crimped the second wire on the first terminal and checked. Still out! Checked the 15amp fuse. Blown! Replaced it! Good! Pulled her out front and dropped the deck, engaged the PTO and rototilled a six foot section of the lawn! Then I remembered when I got off the tractor during the "fix" earlier, I kicked the height adjustment getting off the seat! I didn't think about it then. It WAS all the way forward. I usually keep it as it is pictured then just drop the deck. (Learning moment guys)! I think I'm going down to the Amish farm and buying some goats.

2 pointswhat does he have?....The results of a clever individual. I really like that idea... front mounting a motor on a Suburban.... would help balance the tractor. It likely started life as a 1961 401. Hood stand is from 401. (The extra holes are not in the 1960 stand.) Clutch pedal is 1961 cast iron style. Trans is three piece and has holes at rear for auxiliary hitch.

1 pointThe wife and I were talking about the panzer tractor that got away over coffee this morning. then when I did my morning CL search theres this T 70 Panzer a hour & 1/2 away owners states was main mower last year. so in the truck for a Sunday drive. when I get there sure enough theres still grass on the deck. starts first pull after he turns gas on. he shows me a later model Craftsman tractor & says he could'nt keep it running & the only thing he could depend on was the Panzer. the plow was on it cause he plowed the drive way this winter with it. I had to have it. so here it is

1 pointFired up the tractor to cultivate the garden. Sometimes I forget how stout this tractor is.

1 pointWent in the barn and said hey guys weed day. They commenced whininnying raring to go. They all wanted to pull the sprayer. 141 was all decked out with loader, 111 ready with snow blower, B80 in first stages of refurb, 145 has mower, Sk486 under the weather, 310 getting battery charged, D200 in refurb, D250 ready but D's too big. Meanwhile the 100 is sitting next to the sprayer saying me, me, me. Couldn' stand to hear him beg so hooked up and away we go. Sprayed all the weeds and we both had a good day.

1 pointIts not just CL and ebay. Look under the classifieds here and you will see some overpriced tractors. We would all like to make as much money as we can but have to know the difference of profit and absurdity. You really cant blame a person for trying. We have all seen the tractors that have been on ebay for over a year and then we see the ones that dont last 5 hours. As a buyer it is very frustrating. We know what we will pay and it can be hard to find what we want at the price we will/can pay. I have dealt with some real winners as Im sure most have. I have to believe that the people that want to screw you around when they are trying to sell something will always get theirs in the end. There are really good people out there and it just sucks that all people dont treat others the way they would want to be treated. Just remember what they say about karma.

1 pointWe have our own little Red Square fur-ball. Hippysaurus fits, we just need to talk him into letting it grow for a year and see what he looks like next year. I'll even volunteer to shave it off with a trimmer in Arendtsville at the show.

1 pointthought I would give you a sellers perspective; I had a young kid work with me a few years back. he needed transportation, and ended up with a 80s Toyota truck. it ran like a top, but had no heat, and it was winter. we took the lines loose to the heater core and got it cleared out, and it worked fine. he drove it until spring and listed it for sale on cl for $500. every morning he came in with several new stories. offers for $100, unbelievable trade offers(pair of coon hounds topped the list ). then there were tragic stories about cars dying and the family had no money or transportation. he pulled the add after 3-4 days and finally sold it to a co-worker. so, by the time you finally get in touch with the seller, they may be at their wits end.

1 pointThe Lawn Ranger in the top picture is a 1964 model 34 E with a 1962/63 steering wheel and a replacement engine block. A 1964 should have a two spoke steering wheel and a 3/4 pipe threaded exhaust system. The second Lawn Ranger is either a L-155 or L-156 that also has a replacement steering wheel, seat and the short block has been replaced with the bolt on exhaust system. A 1967 L-107/L-157 Lawn Ranger did not have the "Lawn Ranger" decal on the belt guard. Both of these Lawn Rangers should have a data plate under the steering wheel on the hood stand and also used the Tecumseh H-60 aluminum block engine. Wild Bill Richmond, VA

1 pointWent to the McMaster-Carr site and they have the same rod ends for about $3.00 less, hadn't been on that site in years. You can learn a lot and save a buck or two on the "Square" KC9KAS !

1 pointPoints too close means retarded timing... KT manual claims " overheating and loss of power " Just keep an open mind when troubleshooting... close mind and say " it can't be that " leads to ghost chasing and wasted time.

1 pointAnd pulled out the 606 today and dusted it off. Heres a few pics of the tractor after I pushed it out side and put some chrome parts on today. What you see is pretty much what it looked like when I put it away last fall. Looks nice but you can see the flaws when you get close. But its just a yard tractor so in time its sure to get scratched up anyway. Engines apart right now and I'm hoping to have it running by early August. heres a few pics....

1 pointNever believed in the "automatics." Guess I'm just a dummy. My '73 12hp "No Name" Automatic is still runnin' strong (good as new). Every time I take this Horse out to wo....wo.....work, I am amazed! Todays buyers would never be so lucky, impossible. This poor "No Name" is equipped, even with an electric PTO. Hey, it's a "real" Wheel Horse!

1 pointThanks Ken, I am very proud indeed.. It's taken a long time to reach this point, but it's certainly been worth it Yeah she is a bit bright out in the sun.. Maybe people need to look at it through a pin hole in a piece of card... A Wheel Horse eclipse I've not had a chance to do any work on the ol girl today.. Had a wasted day going to London to see a specialist who spent an hour talking about "how the brain can be trained to deal with things that I don't know are about to happen".. And then finished it off with "it probably wouldn't work with you"!!!! Anyway, miniature rant over... The battery box now has a lid, I'd better get it painted tomorrow.. I did set out to find out why the ol girl won't tick-over but while I was in the carb area I thought I'd sort something that needing sorting. The engine was designed to run with a sealed air box on top of the carb with all the air being forced in to the air box from the cooling fan.. The original air box wouldn't fit under the hood so I just fitted a "normal" Raider (and others) type air cleaner.. This worked ok but the engine ran a bit on the rich side.. The carb being a fixed jet type means I couldn't adjust the mixture!! Soooo... I cut a hole in my freshly painted air cleaner.. A bit of faffing about with some rubber hose later and the air could be forced into the air cleaner. I needed to stop the air being blown out where it would normally be sucked in, so the out lip on the base of the air cleaner was gently beaten flat.. To give enough space to fit this ally ring in.. I know it looks a bit of a strange shape, but it fits as it should so I guess the top of the air cleaner is a bit on the oval side.. Anyway, the air filter (the bit the actually does the filtering) fits inside the ring. And when the air cleaner is bolted together the air can blow out no longer.. I still need to work out why she won't tick over though!! And to finish, my latest video.. You get to see her looking all bright in the sun, and Mark driving about in a much better quality than PotatoBucket can handle
