2 pointsWell look what came in the mail today....my 2 final edition books I ordered so I could win the 1st edition. I had already ordered 3 final editions the day they went on sale so now I have a total of 7. I am putting all of them in a safe storage place except for the one I am reading. Thank you for helping me complete my book trio.

1 pointI had a video on VHS that I copied to a CD years ago. Its my 518H plowing garden with a Brinly (sp?) 10" moldboard plow. Video was taken in early 1990's. Not the most exciting video in the world, LOL But shows the Wheel Horse 518 easily handling garden work. Have a disk also that I used on it. My brother was up visiting, so he is on the 518H early in the video. I took over later. Used a Dynamark 11/42 Garden tractor before the WH. Havn't put out a garden in some years now. I used wheel weights & chains on the Dynamark, but never used them on the 518. Seemed to get along OK without. I have a 520H also, but never used it in garden work. Had the dealer install the sleeve hitch on the 518 when it was new. Have thought about switching it over to the 520. The manual lift on the 518 will wear you out. LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=fd3xjWzv7Z8 Gregg,

1 pointI finally got home after 72 hours strait at work. Took the rifle out to drool a little again and shot a couple of quick pics for those interested.
-
1 pointAnd pulled out the 606 today and dusted it off. Heres a few pics of the tractor after I pushed it out side and put some chrome parts on today. What you see is pretty much what it looked like when I put it away last fall. Looks nice but you can see the flaws when you get close. But its just a yard tractor so in time its sure to get scratched up anyway. Engines apart right now and I'm hoping to have it running by early August. heres a few pics....

1 pointMaybe ya need to come on SOUTH about another 400 miles???....just sayin'....maybe Sedalia MO or so...but remember we used to shoot horse thieves in the ole wild west days!!...just sayin'

1 pointSounds like you had the right machine for the job. No need to post any pics !! Mike.............
-
1 pointWell no pics, but I spent most of the day rattle canning some primer on the bare metal, reassembling the dash and the hydro controls, welded up some stuff that was just tack welded, I WILL have it drive able for the MI WH show, far from done but I plan to drive it till something falls apart, LOL it will have some temp. stuff on it like the fuel tank, I just don't think I have time to build one with everything else I have going on, same for a few other items like wiring, seat ect..... but you never know I may get more done than I think, I get some pics up in a day or so.

1 pointI saw recently Ryan, the TV show "Horders" is always looking to feature new case studies.

1 pointThe D250 is a nice machine. Only problem aside from hard to get parts is the tranny. The power input is via worm gear to a brass ring gear. This area is what commonly goes on those machines. This is just my opinion but I think that if you want a good reliable non complicated unit that is powerful and easy to work on, the 416-8 with the single cylinder Kohler 16hp engine is the machine. That motor has torque up the WAZOO. I've had the D250 and a D160 a 520 and all were nice tractors but nothing was easier to work on for me and more reliable than my 416.

1 pointis the carb getting enough fuel? anyway did you take it apart yourself, or just the mechanic that said scrap it?
-
1 pointsounds like lack of fuel - not sure which engine you have, it could be the fuel pump (if it has one) or the jets are blocked in the main needle. There are a few tiny pin holes that can be clogged, they must be clean straight through. mark

1 pointWas almost like a very tiny piece of wood or something. I mean tiny tiny. I used a little pin to get it out with.

1 pointGreat video, greater memories. How does your garden grow.....excellent! I can remember neighbors laughing when I rolled out a very old Horse with a bottom plow. Their laughing changed to amazing stares (couldn't believe what they were watchin'). A Stallion'll do that to y'all! Thanks for sharing. You did a great job with your 518H!

1 pointIf you just purchased your first Wheel Horse and joined Redsquare, you might as well repeat after me.......Hello my name is Tom and I have a problem!!!!
-
1 pointThat's why I got a bargain price for the C-175 I bought last month. PO took it to a shop and had a tune up and carb done, when he got it back it over rev'd and threw a rod. So make sure you check that governor.
-
1 pointThanks Mike !!! Sounds like a good way to make sure it's all drained out then. I just didn't want to mess something up by taking it out. I appreciate the input guys !!! I will work it a little hard and pull the plugs this weekend, if not before. Kyle P.S. Sorry Steve it might have helped if I had posted that it was a Hydro. Newbie error, but I am trying to learn :)

1 pointThere is an old JD mechanic at work that says the full name of Tecumseh is "Fu@#$*g Tecumseh" I have no idea what he means
-
1 pointWell there is the problem he is a JD guy ya gotta be half off to like that ugly green and yellow

1 pointThanks Ken, I am very proud indeed.. It's taken a long time to reach this point, but it's certainly been worth it Yeah she is a bit bright out in the sun.. Maybe people need to look at it through a pin hole in a piece of card... A Wheel Horse eclipse I've not had a chance to do any work on the ol girl today.. Had a wasted day going to London to see a specialist who spent an hour talking about "how the brain can be trained to deal with things that I don't know are about to happen".. And then finished it off with "it probably wouldn't work with you"!!!! Anyway, miniature rant over... The battery box now has a lid, I'd better get it painted tomorrow.. I did set out to find out why the ol girl won't tick-over but while I was in the carb area I thought I'd sort something that needing sorting. The engine was designed to run with a sealed air box on top of the carb with all the air being forced in to the air box from the cooling fan.. The original air box wouldn't fit under the hood so I just fitted a "normal" Raider (and others) type air cleaner.. This worked ok but the engine ran a bit on the rich side.. The carb being a fixed jet type means I couldn't adjust the mixture!! Soooo... I cut a hole in my freshly painted air cleaner.. A bit of faffing about with some rubber hose later and the air could be forced into the air cleaner. I needed to stop the air being blown out where it would normally be sucked in, so the out lip on the base of the air cleaner was gently beaten flat.. To give enough space to fit this ally ring in.. I know it looks a bit of a strange shape, but it fits as it should so I guess the top of the air cleaner is a bit on the oval side.. Anyway, the air filter (the bit the actually does the filtering) fits inside the ring. And when the air cleaner is bolted together the air can blow out no longer.. I still need to work out why she won't tick over though!! And to finish, my latest video.. You get to see her looking all bright in the sun, and Mark driving about in a much better quality than PotatoBucket can handle

1 pointGreat picture Bill. Two years ago at the show, I took a 502 through the parade. It quit running while I was in line waiting...pushed it up until it was my turn...hopped back on and it started...stayed running while you talked about it and then it quit again just as I got back to the tent. gotta love those Techys.

1 pointAn 8 pinion is a better rear for big hp pulling. When that wont hold up a spool works. We have a guy here that pulls with a 50 on a horse. He runs double b belts side by side. Leaves the line over 7500 and slips the clutch. It does smoke belts, but he never breaks one and aways pulls good. He said he does change belts more often then most but it works and works well. Before the tractor had the 50 on it it had a military issue turbine engine on it. Very small turbine. Not sure what it made for hp but it it would shear input gears and what ever other gear it wanted to off in the trans. It was mounted side ways like normal to a jack shaft to the rear end. It was also double b belt. When everything was right it was incredible. I always put an idler pulley on the tight side fo the belt bolted to the belt gaurd. Used to route the belt so more of the belt is in the drive pulley. Puts at least 2/3 of the pulley with belt coverage. Another realy good way to run a belt on a wheel horse when using big power is to machine the clutch arm flat where the flat stock is welded to the bar stock. The picot is right in front of the drive pulley. I weld a stud inline with the bar stock and install a small pulley there. Touting the belt over the stock idler, across the flat idler and over the rear pulley. I will see if I can post a pic
