7 pointsIn 1974 my father bought a brand new C160 Automatic, 36" RD deck, dump cart and Parker Sweeper to replace our junkyard Springfield. During my mowing years, I used this tractor every week. We didn't have a snow blade or blower so it was a summer tractor only. My father passed away in 1991, and my mother kept the tractor. When I bought my house in 1993, I bought my brand new 416-H because of the experience with the C-160. Well, my mother moved and no longer needed a tractor, gave the C160 to my brother and God knows what happened to it but sad to say it's gone. I had wanted to have a father / son project and thought what better tractor to get than a C-160 Automatic. Looking around all I could find was an old Electro and C-120 Automatic. A short time later Eldon (kj4kicks) found a C-160 somewhere in the midwest. It ran but wasn't much to look at. He offered to go pick it up (he was going that way anyway) bring it back and trade the Electro and C-120 for it. I agreed because it would complete the cycle from my father, to me to my children. Well, I went to pick up my C-160, expecting to get a rusty old tractor, but instead I received this: It turns out that with a collection from the members, and Eldon's awesome talent, he dismantled the tractor, painted it, and put it together. There was only a few odds and ends for me to complete. It was a complete surprise and I am still in awe of what everyone had done for me. This is one C-160 which is truly a RedSquare tractor, and it is my entry for this month's category!

5 pointsNo story just found this driving down the road. Just a cool tractor. My 1975 B145 Elec-trak w/forklift

3 pointsThis was the first tractor that dad and I tackled to clean up and put back in to good working order. It was the feature model for the 2012 WHCC show in Arendtsville, PA where it was revealed. We had a great time and learned many things through the process of doing our first machine. We were pretty pleased with the results and have had a lot of fun on it. It now has the correct seat and is getting a sickle bar mower cleaned up to install on it. Here she is........

3 pointsi want to nominate my 1057. the whole story on the build on this one can be found here....... to date this has definitely been the most detailed build i have done. i also do my painting with powder paint, which presented a few challenges along the way, as much of this tractor as possible was painted this way, lots of parts had to be totally dismantled, engine, generator, fuel pump and carb for example, any of these parts just cant be bead blasted as an assembly and powder coated. they need to be totally dismantled and anything at all that wont survive 400 degrees in a cure oven needs to be removed. i also wanted to keep detail as much as possible as can be seen if you read through the build thread or look at some of the pics below. this tractor while looking nice, drives the best out of anything i have as no worn part went un-noticed and was either rebuilt or replaced...... engine that was used for the build..... and heres a few through the build........

3 pointsOver the past few months I've been hunting for a nice original Hiller. Of course a few months later I now have two. The blue and white one is a Hiller Craftsman (1954). Its an unrestored original that I found in Bend, Oregon and shipped across the country. Apparently, (unbeknownst to me) it has a very rare brake kit that is only known to have been seen in marketing advertisemnets but never in person. This tractor has been photographed for LAGT and (as of last week) I was told will be a cover feature later in the year. The red one is a Hiller YardHand (1955), which again is a very nice unrestored original. I found this one in MA about two weeks ago.

3 pointsThought you all would like to see my version of home made hub mount duals. I do make a lot of my own attachments. Things can be pricy or rare to find. Maybe this can help some of you. Parts list contains - 4 JD 110 hubs - 2 pipes - cast welding rod - 1 imagination

3 pointsAs you can see there is a lot to be had here. Can anybody identify the two Horses that are in pieces? The one with the deck and the one without a hood? The other Horse I left there is the one with the big parade seat on it. I believe it was a C-141. I brought back quite a few pieces and parts as well. Everything by the chair I brought home. Everything else is still there. There are so many little bolts, nuts, and brackets that I have no clue about.

2 pointsHere we go guys...it's going to take me a few minutes to get every picture up on here. Correct me please if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the correct order, organized by age, of these Horses, from left to right. 1960 Suburban 400 1964 854 1966 L-156 1967 L-157 1967 657 1967 857 1968 Commando 6 (wrong motor) 1968 Charger 12 (with a motor from the Electro 12, Kohler K301S-47147B) 1978 C-161 1979 C-141

2 pointsAre you sure it has spark when it dies? Could be a bad condensor.

1 pointI've saved my original post in this thread above. This list evolved into more than I ever thought it could be. I've had many emails and PMs from people thanking me for doing this list. Those messages have come from people who are touched in different ways by seeing a familiar name on this list. Some are related to the past proprietors of some of these, others just celebrate what this list represents as an homage to many small business entrepreneurs that had a dream and made a living. I thank you each and all for those messages. I celebrate with you those small business dreams. And I thank each and every one of you who have contributed to this list! 1 pointAs many of you who were at the show this year, this is the 150th Anniversary of The Battle of Gettysburg, and that you were close to perhaps the most historical place in the country. I happened on this video animation and explanation of the battle today and for the first time got a very good perspective of how this battle played out. I found it fascinating... http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/gettysburg/maps/gettysburg-animated-map/

1 pointI started this clean up and repaint at 9 this morning and wrapped things up at 5 pm. I removed and stripped all tins to bare metal, primed and then painted them. I originally bought the decal kit for my 520 but I came to the decision that the 520 was too clean to repaint. I cut out the 520-H on the decals and put em on. i could care less that it doesn't say 417-8 on the hood, I know what it is. All I have to do is install some new running board mats and put on the new rear lights. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

1 pointSome time back, I uncovered an old Pump from the same place I got my first Wheel Horse from. Not sure if anyone has one mounted on their WH. I figured it would be a good attachment to shift water from the Pond to the Veg Garden area in times of drought (fat chance with this weather). Also for filling a towable Bowser/Tank. The owner said I could have it and so a few weeks ago I managed to get some time to drag the Genset and Grinder over to it and part it from it's old wheeled chassis and get it home for inspection. A quick clean to find some identity and a subsequent successful search for info/parts, gave me the green light to proceed with stripping it down for a full refurb. These are not cheap new and the Spares aren't either, but it's a powerful pump and will Self Prime from 3-5metres head within 30 seconds. It can handle small hard and soft solids and will shift upwards of 80ltrs per minute at 1500rpm @ 2 BAR through 1 inch pipe.on a 3/4 hp motor.......plenty plenty!. These are common on Marine Engines and onboard water systems. Will have a few problems getting the Wearplate out and have to be careful with the 2 piece Shaft & Sealed Bearing (good), but will get there. In the meantime, I thought I'd give it a clean up and go Shiney Bronze. The All Brass Strainer was originally painted Red, so may repaint it. Need to plan the fabrication for mounting and drive speed etc, but I'm looking at a Mid Hitch drive shaft to the Flywheel side initially. Lots of jobs on the list at the moment, but I like several things running at the same time. Still too cold in the workshop, so waiting for the Weather to warm up now.

1 pointOne of the options I use plowing out on the lawn is a piece of pipe with a slit the full length slid over the cutting edge, no need for skid shoes the blade is down on the ground and it doesnt dig in,,, does a real nice job. For my purposes I use pvc, on stone I would think metal pipe would wear longer but pvc is cheap and easy to work with.

1 pointJust stumbled accross this thread, what a coincidence,i'm on with doing the same thing but my pump wont look anywhere near as stunning as the one you've just resto'd. That is one cracking job you've made of that Richard.

1 pointIf you read my original post "Barn Find" that will kind of give you the background on these. I'm new to the hobby but I'm gradually turning myself into a collector haha. I plan on keeping a few of them for myself and my son. The rest will probably need to find a good home among other Horses.

1 pointCould maybe be a leaky head gasket?? One of my older riders had the same symptoms/problem you are having. I discovered it taking the heads off to look at the valves. so I cleaned things up and installed new gaskets, fine tuned the carb and problem solved. I'm guessing the leaky head gasket was causing it to run too lean and hot... I even surprised myself!! although your problem could be something else. just my 2 cents worth

1 pointDon't forget to look around the shop, or inside for tractor "paperwork" (manuals, catalogs, charts, signs), those all have value and I would expect there is a lot of them in a box or file somewhere in there. Also; Wheel Horse tools and misc., they all have value. What a nice 'goldmine' of great tractors, and thank you for sharing this with us. FYI: There is a big Wheel Horse "Meet & Greet* in Leesburg, IN (North of Warsaw) on Saturday, October 05, -- will be several hundred Wheel Horse collectors-restorers attending, -- you can sell directly from your trailer, as do many other collectors, and it's all free.

1 pointBob is right, If you don't have to have them right away. I ordered 100 for $6.50 and it took one week to get them. I could not find them anywhere in my area. Hope this helps.
-
1 pointYour local GM dealer should have them if they have been around for a while. That is all they used for years. Garry

1 pointOr you can order a new harness with the female switch connector. http://www.psep.biz/store/electrical_mower.htm I usually just skip the connector cover completely and connect the separate wires directly to the switch with the insulated solderless connectors

1 pointIf you can't find them locally, and you aren't in a hurry, try eBay. You can get them from Hong Kong cheap, but it takes about a week to get here. That's where I got mine. http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-x-6-3mm-1-4-Width-Wire-Female-Spade-Terminal-Connectors-/230917665565?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35c3c3f31d

1 pointRecently I picked up two new maroon stripes. The 312-8 I gave a worker referb and a really clean low hour 520H. They joined up with my late father's 417 A and my 520HC for a little group shot....

1 pointThat history of Gettysburg is amazing, but with the amount of events scheduled for this weekend... the amount of people attending will make it a madhouse there...to say the very least. Not to mention the heat index they're calling for this weekend. YUK!

1 pointTook an hour longer than planned but it is done. The Carbon Fiber 520-H with gold leaf overlays. Use phone camera so pictures dont do it justice. I like this so it will stay this way for a while.

1 pointHi guys, Just brought home a couple of oddball tractors. First is a burns. I do not know much about this tractor, I'm thinking it was made in the early 60's and there is a tag on it that says it was made in georgia. The other tractor is a jacobsen javelin 26. This is a very neat tractor and it has a clinton b1290 in it. Here are some pictures. ~Jake

1 pointJust one large wire on the starter. It comes from one of the larger terminals on the starter solenoid. The opposite large terminal should have a large cable from the battery+ plus a smaller wire that feeds your ignition switch. The tan wire from the ignition switch to the pto switch is your starter circuit. With the pto OFF the power goes from the tan terminal to the purple terminal/wire that goes to the clutch switch. With the clutch pushed down the clutch switch closes and puts power into the other purple wire that goes to the small solenoid terminal. That should close the starter solenoid sending power to the starter. Warning - The pto switch controls the ignition also. Make sure you don't apply any voltage to those ignition wires. It will smoke the ignition coil. The ignition is self powered and the ignition wire is simply grounded to the chassis to shut the ignition/engine off. Your problem is between the ignition switch and the solenoid. Your jumper to start the engine proves the solenoid and starter are OK. When you turn the key to START watch your dash lights to see if they will indicate the problem area. Garry

1 pointMajor league Debut with Gibson throwing for the Twins tonight! Great Debut. Not holding my breath though. We really need an ace. Oh well. We have the M&M boys. So now we can't afford anyone else (not a big fan of those 2). I always hope the Pohlad's will loosen their pocketbooks a little. Watching Cuddy light em up elsewhere. Yeah, Baseball. As much as I love it? I can hate it just the same. tractorchick? You guys actually do have a good team in the Cards. But, you didn't hear that from me. And Saurus? I am not ever gonna be a Sox fan. But, I do have a cool story for ya. I was at a Twinkies vs. Sox game a year ago and I was in the dugout box seats over the Sox dugout so naturally I had rip on Pierzinzki every time he came up. I know he could hear me counting his steps when he struck out because he kept looking back at me, (he went 0 for 6 that night). Anyway, I had to get the next round and when I had just left my seat he laced a smoking foul ball right into my seat. Luckily I wasn't sitting there from what the people around me said. When he hit it? He just glared at where it went. I asked him to sign it when the game was over, he just looked at me, and turned and walked away. The Sox won that night but I didn't really care. Our new stadium is just awesome. Not a bad seat in the house. I don't care who wins when I go to the games there, the experience is worth it. But to be honest? I would go to a St.Paul Saints game before a major league game. They are just plain fun.

1 pointFinished the Pump now, made the additional brass (mirror polished) Outer Cover Plate to take the wear from the Impeller and made new fixing Bolts out of 9/32" AF Hex Brass instead of slotted screws. Good as new inside now and ready to go pumping. Strainer painted as original condition. Pulleys, Bearings, Shafts and Belts to sort next.
-
1 pointBumped this to say sorry to contributors for lack of response on this thread and to show (loads 'a' pics) a little progress on rebuilding this pump. I had to strip it out completely to sort the Shaft damage. I had to make several Press Tubes n Tooling and obtain the use of someone's Flypress in order to remove parts in sequence, but got there in the end and all the internal surfaces are good- With the old bearing pressed off, I found the small roll pin which locates the bushing in the correct position on the Shaft had been sheared off. Yes , someone from the 'Hammer Tribe' had hit the pulley end so hard, it moved the shaft through the bushing 3/16", as well as swaged the Pulley end of the shaft (which I had to cut the pulley off and clean up ). After 35 years exposed to the elements, water had got past the shrunken seals-to-body joints and reached the Bearing, but it still turned quite smoothly and only exterior rust/pitting. I did not risk using it again and was recently lucky enough to find an OEM NOS Bearing at a 1/3rd of the cost of a new one. With a Press Tube made with a hole so I could see the Spirol Pin Hole in the bushing, I was able to gently heat the bushing and press it back to where the holes line up and fix it there. Followed by the New Bearing and Snap Ring- I have all the new seals, spacers and Snap Rings to complete the job now. Just need to make the Press Tube for the Outer dimension of the bearing to press it home in the Body, then fit the seals etc- At the top left of the above pic is the new Wear Plate and the original Outer Cover Plate which I have- ........skimmed in the Lathe. Had to remove 15 thou to get back to smooth metal and still showed staining from dezincification it . I want to keep this cover plate (uk£20.00 new), so I'm making another (thinner) identical plate that fits inside it and will take all the wear. Also make longer bronze Cover Screws. Should be able to start planning the layout soon. Will be controlling drive via Pto, but need to sort ratios n shafts out. Like Madcat's setup , but thinking of less exposed location if poss. Please don't hold breath for soon-to-come update..... I'm having to work in a near Unidextrous mode , but I'm adapting to it. Regards

1 pointWent to the Pierce-Arrow museum in Buffalo as part of my father's day. This is a MUST SEE if you are ever in the area along with the Naval museum. They have about 30 cars in there now along with tons of memorabilia. They are building a gas station designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the early days of motoring as one of the first modern stations. They are building on and have over 100 cars stored away to put in once it is finished. They hope to be done in a couple of years. Here are some pics: A Horn for your Tecky powered roundie! Hood ornaments for your "D" Early bike and the first winner of the Race around the World, the Thomas Flyer also built in Buffalo Bugatti Blurry pic of a Crosley. My Power King uses the same transmission Chase Automobile. They spelled Chasse wrong! ????? Really cool Motorette My Favorite. The much maligned Corvair engine. Buitl at the Tonawanda Engine plant Of all the pumps there, Why did I pick a Ford one? Complete with cooking utensils! Another Pierce with my son's shoulder Pierce again Silver Pierce She's real fine my 409! Pierce dual valve 6
