3 pointsAnother Sunday morning and here I am in my shop trying to work on projects but find myself on the forum more than I should be. A while back it was suggested to me that the wood grain decals from the late sixties might look nice on a 3,4 or 500 series tractor. So this morning instead of focusing on sign customer projects I made a set of wood grain decals for the 520-H I acquired at the BIG SHOW. they are waiting for lamination right now and I am going to apply them later today. I will put them over the original decals just to see if I like the look. Hoping to refurbish the paint and find an exhaust shield for it this year. This image is just a photoshopped image and I will post a picture of the actual tractor when I get them installed.

2 pointsI think a lot of people list something, then pay the add no more attention once the item sells & just delete or ignore any email inquiries. Craigslist isn't perfect, but you do find some treasure every once in a while after wading through the no replies, or worse...a seller that sells an item why your in route & or raises the price when there is more interest.
-
2 pointsYeah, I don't understand it myself... I've responded to several CL ads and I either get no reply (to email OR phone calls), or, I'll get a reply and then no response to anything further. Why would they post if they are going to not actively pursue the sale? I understand that the items may have been sold... so then be responsible and remove the f'in ad!

2 pointsMajor league Debut with Gibson throwing for the Twins tonight! Great Debut. Not holding my breath though. We really need an ace. Oh well. We have the M&M boys. So now we can't afford anyone else (not a big fan of those 2). I always hope the Pohlad's will loosen their pocketbooks a little. Watching Cuddy light em up elsewhere. Yeah, Baseball. As much as I love it? I can hate it just the same. tractorchick? You guys actually do have a good team in the Cards. But, you didn't hear that from me. And Saurus? I am not ever gonna be a Sox fan. But, I do have a cool story for ya. I was at a Twinkies vs. Sox game a year ago and I was in the dugout box seats over the Sox dugout so naturally I had rip on Pierzinzki every time he came up. I know he could hear me counting his steps when he struck out because he kept looking back at me, (he went 0 for 6 that night). Anyway, I had to get the next round and when I had just left my seat he laced a smoking foul ball right into my seat. Luckily I wasn't sitting there from what the people around me said. When he hit it? He just glared at where it went. I asked him to sign it when the game was over, he just looked at me, and turned and walked away. The Sox won that night but I didn't really care. Our new stadium is just awesome. Not a bad seat in the house. I don't care who wins when I go to the games there, the experience is worth it. But to be honest? I would go to a St.Paul Saints game before a major league game. They are just plain fun.

2 pointsI'm not a fanatic, but I've always loved baseball, both playing and watching/listening. It's the one sport I feel like I understand, not completely of course, but enough to still be able to learn new things every time I see a game. My wife and (mostly) kids just got us all tickets to see the Phillies play the Braves here in Philly in August, can't wait! Coincidentally, the last game I saw in person, Phillies beat the Braves. We don't have cable here in our house (can you say dinosaur?), so lately I listen to the Phillies games on FM radio. I like it, it's kind of a throwback to a slower time in our country's history, a very pleasant way to take in a game. When I'm in the mountains of Virginia, I can usually pick up the same broadcast on their sister AM station. Nice! Anybody remember Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese doing play-by-play commentaries on TV? THAT was entertaining! Go Phillies! 39-42 at the halfway point in the season, woohoo!

1 pointAs many of you who were at the show this year, this is the 150th Anniversary of The Battle of Gettysburg, and that you were close to perhaps the most historical place in the country. I happened on this video animation and explanation of the battle today and for the first time got a very good perspective of how this battle played out. I found it fascinating... http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/gettysburg/maps/gettysburg-animated-map/

1 pointHere we go guys...it's going to take me a few minutes to get every picture up on here. Correct me please if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the correct order, organized by age, of these Horses, from left to right. 1960 Suburban 400 1964 854 1966 L-156 1967 L-157 1967 657 1967 857 1968 Commando 6 (wrong motor) 1968 Charger 12 (with a motor from the Electro 12, Kohler K301S-47147B) 1978 C-161 1979 C-141
-
1 pointAs you can see there is a lot to be had here. Can anybody identify the two Horses that are in pieces? The one with the deck and the one without a hood? The other Horse I left there is the one with the big parade seat on it. I believe it was a C-141. I brought back quite a few pieces and parts as well. Everything by the chair I brought home. Everything else is still there. There are so many little bolts, nuts, and brackets that I have no clue about.
-
1 pointJim: Thanks for posting this . I have been watching and taping this 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg on the History Channel all weekend. Here is also a fascinating GIS Project Map the Smithsonian had prepared for this anniversary that explains who Union soldiers did not appear in view to lookouts, scouts and Lee from their vantage point during the first part of the battle. See the Smithsonian Interactive Map at: http://bit.ly/1crQWYd New map may explain Lee's decisions at Gettysburg news.yahoo.com GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) — On the second day of fighting at Gettysburg, Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee listened to scouting reports, scanned the battlefield and ordered his second-in-command, James Longstreet, to attack the Union Army's left flank.

1 pointAfter quickly laying on the right side hood decal I applied the front hood and was not satisfied so I pulled it back off and wadded it up into a little ball and threw it in the trash. Started to make a new one but decided to test my heat gun theory. Pulled the little ball of vinyl out of the trash and began to carefully straighten it out. Not the easy part. Laid it out on the table and applied heat to it. Amazing how this material will shrink back to its original state with no creases after being rolled into a little ball. With that done I went back out and applied again just to see if it would lay down right. Here is the result. It's ok but I am now working on the carbon fiber look and will install them later today. I agree Craig. Hope to have a set put on later today

1 pointFor probably less than $30 bux you can buy and install new tubes. If not, and one (or more) of the tires goes flat, you're gonna be pretty hot to have to tear down and repair that new tire....at the risk of damage to it. IMHO...put the tuibes it and be done with it.

1 pointThere's a (or was) WH tiller about an hour from me for $100. I had e-mailed him and he said it was all complete in nice shape, selling it for a relative. I was on call so I couldn't come see it right away and explained that would be off the following week (The week of the show) I wanted it to bring to the show and sell cheap, still make money and offset my trip costs some. I emailed again and never hear a thing. No phone number either. The ad is still up
-
1 pointJust my opinon, but I like this one better than the wood grain....
-
1 pointAfter hittin the flea market this morning i stopped of at the hardware store for some floor matting. I cut it out, punched the holes and glued em on. Oh yeah, installed rear lights so this one is now officially done. Almost time to cut the grass!
-
1 pointMaybe, but I didn't say in what direction, and I drive much faster than the posted speed limit so 3 1/2 hours for me would probably be 4 hours for anyone else.

1 pointBluestone is the generic name for that dark gray chunky gravel. I probably should have said "Crushed Bluestone" because yes, those paver slabs are made of bluestone too... I've got 3/4" crushed bluestone. image courtesy redwingsandandgravel.com Regular truck plows use those 'mushroom' thingys to adjust the plow height, but they don't work good because they leave deep gouges. Wheels would gouge when you try to turn, or if your plow is angled. I found something after googling that I'm gonna try. Sandwich a piece of horse stall mat between the blade and the cutting edge: Can be seen in this thread (images won't link) http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/194021-snow-plowing-gravel-drive-problem.html These guys said this works great... my neighbor has I'm sure some scrap pieces laying around...

1 pointSending via email now... 30 megabytes... hope it makes it! Nope... file is too big for my email to send... I wish I had a way to pull individual pages from the demystification manual that apply to your machine... I don't know how to do that though... Wait... I figured it out... emailing now, MUCH MUCH smaller file! also, attaching here, I think... yes, that worked... also uploaded to manual section file name " Tractor 1989 416-8 Wiring Detailed #492-4509.pdf " Tractor 1989 416-8 wiring.pdf

1 pointSteve, my sense of humor is fine. I just didn't know there was anybody else as old or ugly at the show that could have been confused for me. The camera doesn't do me any justice and I don't think I had my make up on so maybe that's why the confusion! Hahaha!!!

1 pointI agree with Bob, Let the members chime in if the name is missing. Half the fun in checking out this thread is to see who the mystery members are!

1 pointIf I saw a solenoid with a melted terminal like the one that was replaced, I would be very carefully inspecting the lug crimped onto the wire for corrosion INSIDE the crimp lug. Even if the crimp lug was not the cause of the overheating, and it was a loose connection at the solenoid at fault, when that heat went into the crimp it could have oxidized that connection as well.

1 pointHere's my entry. My restored 1961 701. BEFORE: AFTER:
-
1 pointHere are photos of my 653. It is 100% original. All decals are present and intact even on engine. Even the carburetor looks like it has never been touched. The plow has never been mounted with the hardware still in the sealed bag. Tires still have a lot of the "knibs" on them. It has only cut grass twice in its life. Cas (additional info edited in) Bought it in 2007 on eBay. It came from Columbus,Ohio. My fiercest competitor for it was Wild Bill. It was his questions to the seller and the fact that he stated who he was that really sparked my final interest in the tractor. Needless to say it did not come cheap. I seem to be the third owner. It was originally owned by an elderly gentleman in a farming comunity and it was only used by him for transportation. Its second owner had it only for a little while and used it only twice to mow an elementary school yard. I don't believe this tractor has ever stayed outside one day in its life or ever felt a drop of rain. With the exception of a bill of sale every other piece of paper that came with it in 1963 I have, down to the engine tag warning to put oil in before using. Everything feels tight like new specially the steering. It was certainly loved by its previous owners as testified by its condition. It has never been touched by paint or a wrench. It only had one diode changed at some time in the past . I can also state that it will stay that way for at least two more generations, since it will not go anywhere during that time.

1 pointthis was my dads tractor. this the tractor I grew up on.
-
1 pointThis tractor belongs to my son Cole. It has an interesting past and its past is the main reason why my son wanted it. There was a thread A Tale of Two Horse's awhile back posted by Buckrancher. When my son read that thread and it told of this 854 being under 10 ft of water at Snyders fix it shop when the Susquehanna river rose 48 feet he was amazed. Cole commented that he would love to have this 854. It wasn't for sale though, yet anyways! Sometime later I heard it mentioned that it might be for sale at the 2012 Big Show. I told Cole and he said we could sell his go cart to get it! Well, the go cart got Cole about half the money. I didn't tell him about that little tid bit, (I covered the rest but I didn't tell him that.) Brian had to rebuild the motor (it was froze). Brian rebuilt the rear diff and anything else that needed it. It performs like a new tractor and everything works flawless. It is used to mow the lawn once a week and it gets cleaned after each use. I tried to use it this past fall to tow a small Wheel Horse cart filled with firewood but I got yelled at by Cole. He saw me thru his bedroom window and came running outside barefoot and told me to use one of my own tractors for hauling firewood!

1 pointNewly restored 701 bought this over the winter just finished it up....
-
1 point$2000 hmmmmm. How does it look and overall condition? Needs to be fairly nice for $2000 considering there may be an engine issue. Just my opinion though!
-
1 pointI don't think i really qualify for voting, But I'd love to put my 702 up. It is all original condition as far as I can tell, I never have wet sanded or done anything to it. The hood does not have one dent! The picture of it in the truck is when I first brought it home. It came from south bend from a older guy who collected bolens gt's. He is deaf but can read lips, he was a really neat guy and we have seen him at a couple shows. The 702 came with a mid mount grader blade, a mower deck, and a snow plow. My dad bought it and I thought I had bought it and was going to pay my dad back when I got home, he would not let me pay him as much as I tried and I thought he was going to keep it for himself. Chritmas morning came and the greatest gift yet came. I opened a container with a two prong key, I knew exactly what that meant. Attached are some picture of my tractor, this is my favorite tractor to hop on and cruise. It always fires right up, and I plowed snow with it this winter, and have graded the drive with it. I am hoping to hook up the mower deck in a couple weeks. Again, I don't think I deserve votes, just wanted to post the 702 as I've never really told the story on it. a link to some snow plowing pictures

1 pointOK. I'm in on this one, with my 1963 33E Lawn Ranger. It came out of a cornfield in Greencastle, Indiana. Rear-end completely locked up, motor frozen, and generally in very sad shape. I paid $40 for it, and wondered on the way home if that was too much. It was always going to get a Kohler, but other than that the restoration started off as being a return to factory condition: But then one day some inspiration hit me, and I just had to bastardize her:
