Recently I picked up two new maroon stripes. The 312-8 I gave a worker referb and a really clean low hour 520H. They joined up with my late father's 417 A and my 520HC for a little group shot....

He does kinda look like me so apparently two male models were in attendance this year! (Settle down ladies, there's plenty to go around but you'll have to wait your turn)

I started this clean up and repaint at 9 this morning and wrapped things up at 5 pm. I removed and stripped all tins to bare metal, primed and then painted them. I originally bought the decal kit for my 520 but I came to the decision that the 520 was too clean to repaint. I cut out the 520-H on the decals and put em on. i could care less that it doesn't say 417-8 on the hood, I know what it is. All I have to do is install some new running board mats and put on the new rear lights. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

I give it hell with one of them knarly wire wheels on my angle grinder to take it to bare metal. I then use a D/A with 220 grit, I then wipe it all down with wax and grease remover. Be real carefu; if you use the knarly wire wheel method, they can do some real damage to you if you aren't careful.

I agree with Bob, Let the members chime in if the name is missing. Half the fun in checking out this thread is to see who the mystery members are!

I am a member of a half dozen clubs who's shows I attend, I join and pay my dues because they provide me with the chance to enjoy my hobby. After seeing the kind of show the WHCC puts on I plan to join (even if I have to use a postage stamp) and make the big show next year. We are the show, but the WHCC has their act togather and provides us a great chance to enjoy our hobby; we ALL need to join.

I am ate up with baseball the way tractor collectors are ate up with Wheel Horse! It's every bit as addictive as the tractor hobby is for me. I have St Louis Cardinal items EVERYWHERE in the house and Jeep! Any other baseball fanatics out in Red Square land??

It seems like I'm always coming across things when I don't need them. A buddy of mine called me up and said a couple old Dodge's showed up at a local scrap yard. First is a is a 1961 W300 Power Wagon 4x4 with a 10k winch on the front and second is a 1972 W600 Power Wagon 4x4 with a 20k winch in the bed. Both were owned by the same guy. He also brought in a 1977 Dodge M887 Military Ambulance but it was pretty rough. Needless to say, both of these were saved from the crusher that day

Got a call today from my old boss and he had a friend that wanted to get rid of a old that was willed to him two weeks ago. He tried to get it running and had no luck, but he was the last one to use it and said it ran like a top 2 years ago. It is a 81 c125 with a non broken rear fender. The pic that I have does not show the rear fender, but it looks great and it has just some light scratches in it, but no cracks. It sat the last 2 years with a flat tire and it has two holes in the side wall. It has a non cracked 42" side discharge deck that is in useable condition. I Hood is very strait and very little rust on it. and all the parts are there. I put in a offer of $250 and he said that i have to take all his small engine stuff two. So I had to ask what he had. He told me he had a 12 hp kohler from a cub with a starter gen that was rebuilt by himself 10 years ago, but never installed. A bunch of carbs, and one was a rup offset carb and a down draft carb that looked like one from a Clinton. Then he said that fits the engine sitting over in the corner. It turned out to be a 4hp Clinton off of a old rototiller he had that a problem with the carb and never got it back together. There was several other briggs engines and lots of other misl stuff, But I couldn't say no to this deal. I pick it all up in a week.

Over the past few months I've been hunting for a nice original Hiller. Of course a few months later I now have two. The blue and white one is a Hiller Craftsman (1954). Its an unrestored original that I found in Bend, Oregon and shipped across the country. Apparently, (unbeknownst to me) it has a very rare brake kit that is only known to have been seen in marketing advertisemnets but never in person. This tractor has been photographed for LAGT and (as of last week) I was told will be a cover feature later in the year. The red one is a Hiller YardHand (1955), which again is a very nice unrestored original. I found this one in MA about two weeks ago.

Im a D guy, but i bought a C pump and motor unit at a great price to see if they were similar. From what I can tell they are exactly the same. The difference is in how they are connected. The D has the manifold, the C the motor bolts directly to the pump. Same ports, same orings as the D. The sundstrand manual in the manual section shows how they go together. I would drop the transaxle in the C, clean it out, pull the hydro motor and check it out too. Whatever goes into the pump goes into the motor. Clean everything, fresh filter, fresh oil. Dont put a rebuilt pump or motor on without doing this. Whatever took out the pump can still be in the system.

Steve, my sense of humor is fine. I just didn't know there was anybody else as old or ugly at the show that could have been confused for me. The camera doesn't do me any justice and I don't think I had my make up on so maybe that's why the confusion! Hahaha!!!

I have been a Yankees fan for 35 yrs. now. I used to be a season ticket holder along the first base line. I used to be a fanatic like yourself but sadly not to many guys that I know are into baseball. If I couldn't be at the game I used to tape the games, man would I get pretty steamed when someone told me who won before I watched it! I would often wake everyone up with all my hootin and hollering. I still catch a game every now and then and I always keep tabs on my team and all of the standings. I also love to play baseball, when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's that is all we played after school, every day. Sure do miss it!

It's a very dirty job. You have to remove gear covers and remove (at least) the 2 bolts that hold the bearing stantion for the cross shaft on the belt side along with the other bolts that hold the deck hanger on. These are usually pretty rusted and often need a torch to get them out. If your deck has the single bolt to loosen the tension at the front pulley that's easy. If it's the double rod tension system you have to loosen the lock nuts and the lower end of the rods and turn them evenly to loosen tension and to tighten them. The belt side of the cross shaft has to be lifted enough to get the new belts under the pulley. Then you have to re-time the gears from side to side. When 1 blade is straight forward and back the other has to be straight left and right. Get lot's of rags!

Parts are no longer available for them (spindles). I found a fellow member who had a few nos shafts for it that I bought for good money. If I were you I would take Baerpath up on his offer. I have seen a few of those decks and they are nice for sure.

yes they do look nice, but like you say crazy money is right there too.... if only they would drop all the bs rebates and all the other discount garbage and start the msrp out at some realistic figure. sure would make things simpler. say the msrp is $47,000 and then you subtract all the individual discounts and rebates and you come up with something like $11,500 off, why not just start at around $35,500 to begin with?

I saw a Cub-Cardinals game and it was back when Sosa and McGwire were hitting the bigs! WOW! They both hit homers at that game and I cried like a baby!! lol! I too like all baseball. Earlier had on Reds-Rangers game, waiting for the Cards-A's to start up. My kids know when the game is on b/c of all the hollering and cursing and carrying on that I do! Oh lord.....I told you I am a die-hard!! I have an old Toro that has been torn apart and painted red. We are going to put it back and have it pimped out with Cardinals decals. I have been waiting on it for a long time. My buddy who is doing the work is a Gravely collector, age 17, and I like for him to take care of his own tractors before working on mine. BUT i hope that SOON I'll have my St Louis Cardinals tractor!!

The answer to that question is, yes it will but the odds of it happening are less than with a hard working, hotter 60" deck fitted Onan but that is just part of the equation! It still comes down to many factors. Here are a few.......A 42 inch 520 with dull blades mowing 8 inch grass at 3PM on a 98 degree day at 70% humidity will work harder than the guy who uses his 60" sharp blade mower cutting 4 inch grass an hour before dark on the same type day. Also, if you have an acre or more, you'll run your 42" deck Onan twice as long mowing the same grass as the 60 inch deck guy does. More hours on the machine verses less hours with a bigger deck. See what I mean? Not all Onan's pop valve seats. Not all K series Kohlers run forever without a problem. Not all MTD tractors are junk! No! Strike that last statement but you get my point. Do the maintenance as required and go the extra steps to keep the flywheel screen clean and the tins and fins blown out, change the oil on a very regular basis, keep the plugs clean, change the filters and keep the carb and the engine tuned and you can use your tractor without paranoid thoughts of a valve seat letting loose. (Says the guy with a spare P220 on his bench)!!!!!

Unless you have a golf course green smooth lawn, all your doing is shorting the life of the tractor. I have seen tractors that people mow in 3rd and the tractor is as loose as a goose. Spindles, tie rods, front wheel bearings, axel pivot pin all worn out or extremely loose not to mention the beating the deck takes. These are garden tractors not ZTR's that are designed to mow a lot quicker. Each to their own but if you compare a tractor that has mowed in 2nd or 1st compared to one that's been used in 3rd you will see a big difference. I do agree that 2nd does seem slow at times and maybe a different ratio would be in order but not as fast as 3rd.

You got some inside info? Everything goes to the scrap yard for a reason. My guess is he had too many vehicles in his yard and the town made him do it. Just being a "smart a$$".

I use my suburban with the 5.5hp lauson to cut grass, plow the garden and push snow and even with my meager 300lbs on there, that engine doesn't hesitate in the slightest. If I dump the clutch, that little thing will throw me on my rear faster then a jack rabbit on a date. My neighbor laughs when he sees me on it. Says, it reminds him of a gorilla sitting on a door knob.
