4 pointsRecently I picked up two new maroon stripes. The 312-8 I gave a worker referb and a really clean low hour 520H. They joined up with my late father's 417 A and my 520HC for a little group shot....
-
4 pointsHe does kinda look like me so apparently two male models were in attendance this year! (Settle down ladies, there's plenty to go around but you'll have to wait your turn)
-

2 pointsI started this clean up and repaint at 9 this morning and wrapped things up at 5 pm. I removed and stripped all tins to bare metal, primed and then painted them. I originally bought the decal kit for my 520 but I came to the decision that the 520 was too clean to repaint. I cut out the 520-H on the decals and put em on. i could care less that it doesn't say 417-8 on the hood, I know what it is. All I have to do is install some new running board mats and put on the new rear lights. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
-
2 pointsI give it hell with one of them knarly wire wheels on my angle grinder to take it to bare metal. I then use a D/A with 220 grit, I then wipe it all down with wax and grease remover. Be real carefu; if you use the knarly wire wheel method, they can do some real damage to you if you aren't careful.

2 pointsI agree with Bob, Let the members chime in if the name is missing. Half the fun in checking out this thread is to see who the mystery members are!

2 pointsI am a member of a half dozen clubs who's shows I attend, I join and pay my dues because they provide me with the chance to enjoy my hobby. After seeing the kind of show the WHCC puts on I plan to join (even if I have to use a postage stamp) and make the big show next year. We are the show, but the WHCC has their act togather and provides us a great chance to enjoy our hobby; we ALL need to join.

1 pointI am ate up with baseball the way tractor collectors are ate up with Wheel Horse! It's every bit as addictive as the tractor hobby is for me. I have St Louis Cardinal items EVERYWHERE in the house and Jeep! Any other baseball fanatics out in Red Square land??

1 pointI want to thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of compliments on my final edition. It was a real thrill to see the faces of everyone when I handed them their books at the show. It was truly a huge project that consumed my life, but was a labor of love and strong desire to pay homage to Cecil Pond. Many people have asked me how many were printed. Here are the production numbers for the three editions. First Edition: 4000 Second Edition: 4500 Final Edition: 2100 The Final Edition is limited due to the high production costs that went in to making it a high quality lasting tribute to Elmer and Cecil. As I mentioned, I wanted to keep the cost reasonable with the highest quality possible. I don't want to see people selling them at ridiculous prices on Ebay so that was another reason for the lower production number. The books are being purchased faster than you can imagine and I strongly encourage everyone to get a it now. Although not intended to be a collectable, the first two editions are in such demand, image how desirable this Final Edition will be with a smaller production total and having exposure on Red Square, The Wheel Horse Collector's Club site, as well as a beautiful article in Lawn and Garden Tractor Collector Magazine. I signed every book even if you purchased it on line, however, I did write personal messages in hundreds of books at the show. Thanks to everyone for being part of the best hobby on earth. I know Cecil and Elmer Pond are looking down upon us with amazement and appreciation. I just hope I made them proud. Michael

1 pointIt seems like I'm always coming across things when I don't need them. A buddy of mine called me up and said a couple old Dodge's showed up at a local scrap yard. First is a is a 1961 W300 Power Wagon 4x4 with a 10k winch on the front and second is a 1972 W600 Power Wagon 4x4 with a 20k winch in the bed. Both were owned by the same guy. He also brought in a 1977 Dodge M887 Military Ambulance but it was pretty rough. Needless to say, both of these were saved from the crusher that day

1 pointOver the past few months I've been hunting for a nice original Hiller. Of course a few months later I now have two. The blue and white one is a Hiller Craftsman (1954). Its an unrestored original that I found in Bend, Oregon and shipped across the country. Apparently, (unbeknownst to me) it has a very rare brake kit that is only known to have been seen in marketing advertisemnets but never in person. This tractor has been photographed for LAGT and (as of last week) I was told will be a cover feature later in the year. The red one is a Hiller YardHand (1955), which again is a very nice unrestored original. I found this one in MA about two weeks ago.

1 pointI thought everyone may be interested that books have been shipped to Canada, United Kingdom, Denmark, and even as far away as Australia! I would love to see a Wheel Horse down under.

1 pointI have been a Yankees fan for 35 yrs. now. I used to be a season ticket holder along the first base line. I used to be a fanatic like yourself but sadly not to many guys that I know are into baseball. If I couldn't be at the game I used to tape the games, man would I get pretty steamed when someone told me who won before I watched it! I would often wake everyone up with all my hootin and hollering. I still catch a game every now and then and I always keep tabs on my team and all of the standings. I also love to play baseball, when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's that is all we played after school, every day. Sure do miss it!

1 pointIt's a very dirty job. You have to remove gear covers and remove (at least) the 2 bolts that hold the bearing stantion for the cross shaft on the belt side along with the other bolts that hold the deck hanger on. These are usually pretty rusted and often need a torch to get them out. If your deck has the single bolt to loosen the tension at the front pulley that's easy. If it's the double rod tension system you have to loosen the lock nuts and the lower end of the rods and turn them evenly to loosen tension and to tighten them. The belt side of the cross shaft has to be lifted enough to get the new belts under the pulley. Then you have to re-time the gears from side to side. When 1 blade is straight forward and back the other has to be straight left and right. Get lot's of rags!

1 pointParts are no longer available for them (spindles). I found a fellow member who had a few nos shafts for it that I bought for good money. If I were you I would take Baerpath up on his offer. I have seen a few of those decks and they are nice for sure.
-

1 pointKate, the Card's horse sounds great. White Sox Fan here...have been since the 50's...Nellie Fox, Louis Aparisio, Jim Landis, Billy Pearsol and others. I always kid that the Only Way the Cubs can beat the Cardinals...is to lose to the Mets. How about a Falstaff...uh, er Bud?
-
1 pointyes they do look nice, but like you say crazy money is right there too.... if only they would drop all the bs rebates and all the other discount garbage and start the msrp out at some realistic figure. sure would make things simpler. say the msrp is $47,000 and then you subtract all the individual discounts and rebates and you come up with something like $11,500 off, why not just start at around $35,500 to begin with?
-
1 pointmike, long story but, id really like to see one down under as well........ nearly 14 years away from home, getting a little home sick!!!!! im really looking forward to receiving my 2 copies of the book though........ very excited.... hopefully today....

1 pointAL team? Twins of course. NL team Brewers all the way. I missed my chance to see the Twins and Brewers at Target Field because we had an over-night concrete bridge deck pour for the light rail extension that goes past the stadium. That was Ironic. I was delivering concrete right next to the stadium I was supposed to be at . The tickets were dugout box seats too. Sorry though. Never been a Cards fan. These are my 2 faves plus Anyone that beats the Yankees, Bo-Sox. And ANY CHICAGO ball club . I am also a closet Mets fan too . . And what about the Marlins this year? Redmond should get manager of the year IMO.

1 pointThanks Don, there's very little left to bolt back on now, and... I think (hope) that all the painting is done for now. Thank you Stephen, I think people are going to be turning away from it at Ardingly so they are not blinded by it.. It does look rather bright first thing in the morning when the sun shines on it in the shack.. First thing on the hit list yesterday was too get a photo of the "Richard refurbed" dash panel while my hands were still clean! Stunning work Richard Most of the rest of the day was spent sitting or kneeling on the floor again, this time painting the wheels a nice slightly creamy look International Harvester white... First wheel done.. Me likes.. Yep, the wheels look much better now. All the panels bar the left side fender are now loosely bolted on, I hope to find the time this morning to get the rest bolted up and all bolts tightened.. Have a bit of a busy afternoon planned

1 pointI will have my phone with me, and whatever big stuff and small stuff I can bring back I will take numerous picture of. All of which will end up on here. I have a 1 ton dually towing a 16 foot flatbed trailer so I imagine I will be able to get quite a load together. I will be back Sunday afternoon so once I get it all lined up and written down, there will be an all new thread (keep an eye out for "Barn Find Update Update" haha that I will try to list everything on. I hope that one goes "hot" in a few minutes because I'm going to need all the help I can get identifying these parts.

1 pointI saw a Cub-Cardinals game and it was back when Sosa and McGwire were hitting the bigs! WOW! They both hit homers at that game and I cried like a baby!! lol! I too like all baseball. Earlier had on Reds-Rangers game, waiting for the Cards-A's to start up. My kids know when the game is on b/c of all the hollering and cursing and carrying on that I do! Oh lord.....I told you I am a die-hard!! I have an old Toro that has been torn apart and painted red. We are going to put it back and have it pimped out with Cardinals decals. I have been waiting on it for a long time. My buddy who is doing the work is a Gravely collector, age 17, and I like for him to take care of his own tractors before working on mine. BUT i hope that SOON I'll have my St Louis Cardinals tractor!!
-
1 pointThe answer to that question is, yes it will but the odds of it happening are less than with a hard working, hotter 60" deck fitted Onan but that is just part of the equation! It still comes down to many factors. Here are a few.......A 42 inch 520 with dull blades mowing 8 inch grass at 3PM on a 98 degree day at 70% humidity will work harder than the guy who uses his 60" sharp blade mower cutting 4 inch grass an hour before dark on the same type day. Also, if you have an acre or more, you'll run your 42" deck Onan twice as long mowing the same grass as the 60 inch deck guy does. More hours on the machine verses less hours with a bigger deck. See what I mean? Not all Onan's pop valve seats. Not all K series Kohlers run forever without a problem. Not all MTD tractors are junk! No! Strike that last statement but you get my point. Do the maintenance as required and go the extra steps to keep the flywheel screen clean and the tins and fins blown out, change the oil on a very regular basis, keep the plugs clean, change the filters and keep the carb and the engine tuned and you can use your tractor without paranoid thoughts of a valve seat letting loose. (Says the guy with a spare P220 on his bench)!!!!!

1 pointYes, it still has the original Tornado 230 OHC engine and runs great. Around 30,xxx miles on her. Its pretty well original, someone put bucket seats in it at one time but I'm going to get originals back in it when I come across some. Looked through my picture files and I don't have any of mine, but I'll get some. I have pics of a parts one I went to Tulsa OK to get, it had a winch on it I wanted. So I'm rebuilding the winch to put on mine. Here's the parts/winch donor before I sold it years ago:

1 pointPictures of our trucks. We have done a lot of work to them and really enjoy them.
-
1 pointYou got some inside info? Everything goes to the scrap yard for a reason. My guess is he had too many vehicles in his yard and the town made him do it. Just being a "smart a$$".
