2 pointsThat came from OH, there was a guy there who built all kinds of crazy things, all out of Wheel Horses. He had an auction about 5-6 years ago and all the toys got sold. There was a forklift made out of an extension ladder, a half-track, a road grader, this crazy screw-drive thing and others. I feel like there were about a dozen total. Maybe Brrrly or Nick can say something... I seem to recall one of them lived just down the road from the guy. Edit... found an old thread with a couple pics of some of the other stuff this guy built.

1 pointThis was forwarded to me in an email today FWIW thought I would share. For those of you who actually try to repair some older and rusted equipment, the following just might help you out. Worth the short read. Penetrating Oils Machinist’s Workshop Mag™ recently published some information on various penetrating oils that I found very interesting. Some of you might appreciate this. The magazine reports they tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a “scientifically rusted†environment. Penetrating Oils ........... Average torque load to loosen* No Oil used .................... 516 pounds WD-40 ....................... ... 238 pounds PB Blaster ..................... 214 pounds Liquid Wrench .................127 pounds Kano Kroil ...................... 106 pounds ATF & Acetone Mix............53 pounds The ATF-Acetone mix is a “home brew†mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note this “home brew†released bolts better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that “Liquid Wrench†is almost as good as “Kroil†for about 20% of the price. Steve from Godwin-Singer says that ATF & Acetone mix is best, but you can also use ATF and lacquer thinner in a 50-50 mix.

1 pointGot back from the show and fired-up the 314-8 w/36" RD deck and knocked out the grass. My yard is anything but smooth and level, this is the 2nd 36 inch RD deck I've owned and if you keep up with the grass (to avoid wind-rowing), IMHO - these decks give the best looking cut. Back to work!

1 pointA friend of mine give me this motor, he rescued it from being taken to the dump. It seems to have good compression and rolls over smooth....has a Carter N carb. I have been patiently looking for an original style motor to put in my rj-35 and was wondering if this k90 would have been an original style motor to a rj-35? Thanks for any info, Al.

1 pointok guys, let's show some faces and horse's to the forum members that aren't able to go to the big shows(like me as i'm overseas) rules: 1 user takes a picture of his horse next to a stream, he puts the photo here in this topic and indicates that the next user (number 2) also takes picture whith a stream in on it. To ensure that we don't immediately get 100s of photos with a stream it, user 2 post a pic with a stream and something else. For example, the stream runs along an airport, now user 2 has to say whats different on the picture and user 3 has to take a picture that has an airport on it. 3 user takes a picture at an airport next to a guard post and gives in turn that user 4 has to have a guard post on his photo, etc, etc. So hopefully we get some variety in the photos. Keep it realistic, for example, that you do not take a picture in obama's bedroom because you happen to know him, or something - To ensure that not everyone post's a pic they have on the pc, go stand next to your vehicle with a sign with the date there. (so we can see who's behind the username.) If the situation does not allow you to include yourself in the photo, a sign with the date on your vehicle also okay. - You can not post 2 times in succession, unless a week has passed and still no one fulfills the "command". - It does not have to be a building / location may also be that you are in a hailstorm, snowfall, with your grandmother, with Santa Claus, etc on the photo. Make up some fun. i'll kick off the next guy has to have an motorcycle/project on the photo too

1 pointIf the engine is turning over with the starter at what seems to be a reasonable speed, but the engine isn't starting and running, before you do any more troubleshooting on the starter circuit, make sure you have spark and fuel... After you gitter runnin' again, you can go back to the starter circuit and 'fine tune'...

1 pointLUCKY YOU! That would be the correct motor for a rj35, even has the 3/4" tapped exaust. Those are pretty hard to find. I'm also in search of a 90 with a 3/4 exaust for my rj35.

1 pointAn interesting note about the Wheel Horse four wheeled cart ......... it was designed to carry 1 ton (2,000 pounds) of payload. Now ya'll think 'bout that when ya' load one up and hook it up to a Suburban 400 and start to drive down hill !!!! Wild Bill Richmond, VA

1 pointI can't help being reminded by all of this, of the wording in the manual about making sure that the flywheel and crankshaft are clean when you put them on. If someone put it on when it was dirty, it would sure add to the difficulty of removing it. Next time I install a flywheel, I'll be thinking about this thread.

1 pointya think!!! Seriously, the WHCC is going to be kind enough to save a spot on their schedule next year for us...gives us more time. It would take a lot of time to pass a clipboard between 56 guys...and the word is we might have a British Invasion next year...plus some more Indiana and Ohio and maybe some Minnesota and Illinois guys...WOW...we could be over 70 or 80 guys on Saturday. I know we missed some guys on Friday and Saturday...Clem, Woodchuckfarmer, RWilson, Redbird & Dave, Gunny and a few others. Also, there are a few that got caught behind other people...being able to do a panoramic...we should be able to spread the members out better, so everyone is shown and then get their names. I will have a tripod next year, and the wife will get a little practice behind the camera. Dang...over 395 members have logged on today...probably to look at all the excellent pictures...My hat is off to the WHCC. Their show is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Proud to be one of their members.

1 pointThere's that tree! That thing had it out for me all weekend. Plowed into it once,(Along with another tree at Gettysburg Campground at 2 A.M.) and almost got it again leaving the campfire Almost needed Craig's helmet! Steve needs to bring that plastic chain saw next year.

1 pointIt's so difficult to know what to recommend, partly because my interest in GTs only started less than three years ago. My first resto, the C-120 Auto had the battery leads converted by a PO to the type that fit round posts on an automotive battery. When I completed the resto found that the size of battery fitted to my classic Mini also fitted into the battery tray so that's what I fitted. It's designated type here in the UK is 038 - which is a 35 amp-hour capacity. The one I purchase was mid price range with a respectable name and its in its third season with no signs of any issues. The tractor gets used for about 25 hours each year and, although I promise myself to keep all the tractors batteries charged during winter, the reality is that they get one top-up charge. My C-100 is now in its second season and is fitted with a quality GT battery which was no cheaper than the auto battery I got for the C-120. It has similar hours use annually and also one top-up charge over winter so in the long term it will be interesting to see which lasts longer. My money's on the auto battery with its bigger plates and higher cranking amps but I could be proved wrong as is often the case. The restored D-200 has a seemingly indestructable battery on it. To explain - it's a battery I bought at a car boot sale very cheap perhaps six years ago. It was 'used condition' and was from what is refered to over here as a 'mobility scooter' - tiny four wheeled electric buggy used by the disabled to get to the shops etc. It's a sealed type, probably AGM technology and about 35 - 40 amp-hour capacity but I'm not certain, and designed for deep cycling on a daily basis. Now this battery has sat on or under my bench for six years or more, been used to test things from time to time, and been given perhaps a once a year charge. This season it has found a home on the D and cranks it like a new battery. I'm not sure how it will fair with the Kohler Rectifier Regulator charging system as it's too early to tell but as it owed me nothing it seemed a sensible use for it. Who knows, it could yet go on to outlive the others. Cranking amps isn't the be all and end all of GT batteries though. For a season on my 316-8 I was using a small (perhaps 15 amp hour) AGM battery intended for UPS applications. I was given it 'new' by a friend as it was past its shelf life and was going to be sent for scrap at the place he works. The Onan cranked at normal speed, started and ran fine with the voltmeter never over 14 volts though, as with the Kohler engines, the regulator device wasn't really designed with AGM or Gel batteries in mind. A season on the 316 didn't kill it but now the 316 has the GT battery that came with the A-800 and the A-800 is having the UPS battery. I doubt very much it will survive long on a Techy 3 amp unregulated charging system but it owes me nothing and I intend to build a regulator to at least give it a fighting chance. Sorry for this lengthy ramble and that, in a way, it will be a couple of years before I can provide feedback from the various 'experiments' that are in place at the moment. I don't have a Gel type in any of the tractors at the moment as I haven't come by one at next to no cost to try out. I do have a mil spec gel type in my classic mini - dont ask how I came by that but it's designed to be charged by a standard alternator (14 volts or there abouts) and seems to be going on beyond the normal life expectancy of a standard 'flooded' type. Reassuring to know that the military occasionally get something good for the money they spend. Andy

I think I had more, but they must have been on an older long-gone computer This pic is from one of the ebay ads after the auction was over. A bunch of the projects got sold at the auction and were on ebay the next week.

1 pointI told my wife, friends and family that I was not going to buy anything meaningful at the show... well that lasted until this little gem crossed my path like a black cat. 1957 RJ35... faily complete... the field strip has already started (belt guard and veri-drive have been removed)... and the e-tank is about to be heated up.

1 pointMy son ColeB and BrennanBo spent lots of time together burnin fuel and havin fun. Cole is 11 and he has been on a tractor since he was a few months old, he started riding on his own when he was 6, just like BrennanBo. Cole REALLY enjoys his Wild Bill time! That there is funny! (true too!)

1 pointI think Karl hit the nail on the head. I'm sure there some club members who feel the show has almost gotten to big. Let's face it, it easier to put on a show with 100 tractors and 500 people visiting as opposed to 800 tractors and 1500 people attending. I was talking to Bob and Craig on Friday night during dinner. I said The tractors were only a small part of the reason I attended. The main reason is all the great people on Red Square. How else would a bunch of "grown ups" get all wound up and excited about driving half way across the country and attending a tractor show. I have a family reunion next month and attending the show felt like the same thing to me. I dare say without Red Square I wouldn't attend the show unless I had to to try to buy some much needed replacement parts. The friends I've made make me want to attend and I'm all ready planning next year's trip.

1 pointI won't compare the WHCC and RedSquare, and I support both. I don't know who made the comments to Vin, but comments like that are usually based out of fear, but fear of what I don't know. RedSquare fully supports the efforts of the WHCC and the annual show. Our members are Wheel Horse enthusiasts FIRST, with RedSquare acting as a medium to share and exchange information. We advertise, support, and encourage attendance at the collectors club show, and I have to believe that through these efforts, attendance at the event has increased NOT decreased. The posting of pictures (enabled for guests to see as well) and open discussion of the events, who is there, the fun being had etc reaches thousands of people around the world, not just RedSquare members. The purpose of this post was to show support for the Wheel Horse Collectors Club and the show that they provide, not to divide the Wheel Horse community. There are people out there, Wheel Horse collectors, who are upset that the hobby has grown as it has, and for them RedSquare is not the place. My question to the people making the comments is simple.... What are you doing to promote the hobby? The WHCC website is an informational site and not intended to be a forum (or at least as far as I am aware). I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the club, except to say they put on a great show which I hope every RedSquare member attends while wearing their RedSquare hat! Oh... fyi, the WHCC does not have an on-line membership application, there is a link to a form which you need to print out and supply your name, address, phone number and of course a check for $10. I encourage everyone to support the club!

1 pointBought a 48" side discharge deck with fairly low hours use, three fuel tank caps with the gauge, six shifter boots, a headlight bezel kit, some stickers, and lots and lots of good food. The best things I got were free! Which was some new friends and awesome memories!!! ( You guys know who you are. I am truely blessed to have crossed paths with you. ) I am looking forward to the 2014 show.
