2 pointsHad to move the new horse hauler and pull the sr out in order to get the 701 in first getting ready for the show. While she was out took her for a little cruise and it was a nice ride for sure. I also picked up a 312-8 on fFriday with fireman along with a few other goodies. Here are some pics.

1 pointOne habit I have gotten into is I take my hand blower and blow all the clippings off the machine, and I spend a lot of time on the engine from the PTO side to get the dirt out of there.

1 pointLearned "almost" the hard way. Broke traction and slid down the slope, tail first. Lucky no damage but was thinking, "heart attack but stopped safely before the trees." Fence the slope and add goats? :smile:

1 pointThe top part of the teeth of this fork gear used to look like the bottom part. You can bet that the cluster gear, this meshed with, is much the same way. It comes form the grinding of shifting the gears without coming to a complete stop. A new cluster gear (if you can still buy a new one) is/was $280.

1 pointI don't use rattle cans on my tractors, but if I did I would make sure that the item being painted and the paint were the same temperature. In other words, don't put 70 degree paint on an object that is sitting in the sun and has risen to a higher temperature. The paint needs time to "lay down". If the object being painted is warmer than the paint, the paint will dry too quickly and never smooth out. Next, be sure that the paint is applied in multiple thin coats, as opposed to one heavy coat. Lastly, I never use denatured alcohol as a cleaner. It is designed as a fuel, and as such has additives that leave a residue. 99% isopropyl alcohol leaves non. My final cleaner before painting is mild soap and water with a good rinse.

1 pointRear discharge is the only way to go i would rather use a smaller rear discharge than a bigger side discharge it spreads the grass clippings more to and u can mow around things on either side of deck

1 pointYes I always come to a complete stop. You are only ruining a good transmission by grinding the gears.

1 pointComplete stop is the best way to go. If anything is turning while shifting gears, it will grind the gears and wear them out prematurely. I'm sure Stevasaurus can post some pics of what happens to the gears when they are abused too much. He has opened up quite a few trannys. I'm sure we are all a little guilty of a grind here and there but doing it constantly over time will eventually cause a problem.

1 pointI go into my local Tractor Supply at least once a week. This crap for paint ain't flyin off their shelves I can guarantee you that! I think they are going to realize sooner or later that it is a waste of shelve space.

1 pointBeginning to get withdrawal symptoms with all this classic vehicle talk. I've got a Mini which I took off the road for the winter (SORN) rather than let it stand on the drive but of course now the MOT needs doing and I haven't had the time. My jeeps are OK on that count - no MOTs needed, and of course there's no road tax to pay as they're 'Historic' but again, haven't had the time to get any of them out for a run yet this year but the first Military show is looming so I'll have to check them over soon. So here they are Neil Yes, that's a big gun on the one in the middle - not your average 30 cal or 50 cal, its a 105mm recoilless anti-tank rifle! Andy

1 pointFinally got around to sharing this.... This is a MacKissic shredder: Sorry the Charger is naked, I am still waiting for my friend to finish painting it. In the meanwhile the horse has work to do! Here are some closeups of my custom mounting "system" Note that since this is a 1969 Charger it has the "optional" front hitch that bolts to the side. Here is a detail of the mount. The black piece is flat steel bolted to the shredder. The washers are to push the bushing far enough in so the inside bolt clears the lock-arm of the hitch. I had originally thought I would need a lift mechanism to prevent to much tension on the belt. In fact I found a snow blower flag can quite nicely bolted to a 2x4 to create lifts (and this idea will be used with my trip bucket conversion project). However, once I put this on and got a belt I found that the weight of the shredder was about the right amount of tension. So this was a successful project There you have it, attachment pictures as well as custom mount pictures in one post. :banana: PS - the belt is a 59 inch. I got it right on my first guess . It is just a fractional belt, I'll buy a proper belt when this wears out. Also note that MacKissic says the rotor should run at 2300 RPM +/- 150 RPM.
