3 pointsSeven other things new Wheelhorse owner should know: 1. First tractor isn't the last one. 2. Second tractor isn't the last one. 3. Third tractor isn't the last one. 4. Fourth tractor isn't the last one. 5. Fifth tractor isn't the last one. 6. Sixth tractor isn't the last one. 7. Seventh tractor isn't the last one and you may need a bigger garage... ;)

2 pointsAs some of you my screen name Riley088 is after my daughter Riley who was born in 2008. Last year she decided to take claim of my 1077 that was in really nice original condition. Everytrhing on it worked the way it was supposed to with no issues so I felt safe with her on it .She loved taking around the yard with of coarse myself or my wife right with her. Torwards the end of last season she said "daddy i want you to paint my tractor this winter" I was thinking this will be a nice winter project. Then she said "daddy I want it pink" so off to home depot to let her pick out what color pink she wanted. the tractor was taken all the way down and the work began. It was a great one to do. She absolutly loves it and thats what makes it worth it. Enjoy BEFORE

2 pointsSEVEN THINGS A NEW WHEEL HORSE OWNER SHOULD KNOW 1.LUBERCATION, Metal on metal = worn out parts, motors, axels, bushings, and gears need oil and grease. So know where your lubrication points are, keep motor oil, trans oil, axles and bushing well lubricated. And the same for attachments mower decks, snow blowers and the like. 2. Small engines (air and oil cooled) are made to run at full speed. With splash oil systems, lubrication is decreased at low or idle speeds, also the cooling fan air volume is also decreased. Engine temp. raises dramatically at low speeds. Also maximum H.P. is at achieved only at full speed. 3. Belts, If you can, try to get O.E.M. But if not genuine Wheel Horse there are some things to consider when replacing a belt. Wheel Horse belts for the most part are "A" or "4L" size. this refers to the top width and top to bottom thickness, 1/2" wide 5/16" thick. Belts also come in smooth or notched styles. The notched belt "AX" runs cooler and can make tighter radius turns, but have a more aggressive grip and cannot be used in "clutching" applications were loosening the belt is needed to clutch. If a belt is used for clutching it's best to get a Kevlar wrapped belt. The wrapping keeps the rubber from burning when the it is "slipping" on the sheave or pulley. 4. Electrical. Older tractor wiring suffers from two main problems. UV (ultra violet/sun light) degrading of insulation and corroded wire and connections were wires meet or are terminated. When replacing wire in vehicles use a stranded style wire of the same gauge or larger of the wire your replacing. NEVER use a solid wire as vibration will work stress and break it in time. Also to help with corroded connections using silicone dielectric on the connectors helps a lot. 5. The shifter. This is a garden tractor not a race car. They should have called it the speed selector, If you here grinding noises when changing speeds you are shifting too fast, the belt need to stop before you change speeds. You will probably be able to take off in any gear from a dead stop. So you don't need to "run through the gears" like a car. 6. Keep an eye on things, Old parts can just plain were out. Once I found a fuel line not leaking but when move just a small amount fell apart, a real fire hazard. 7. The Old Wheel Horse was made before O.S.H.A. and lawyers took over our life, none the less there is some inherent dangers in the older models, open belts, pinch points, marginal breaks, lack of safety shut offs, etc. Know the dangers and limitations of you tractor.

2 pointsFor the very reasons you're experiencing you now know why it is so very important to have more than one Horse. You're showing the early signs of WHA (Wheel Horse Addiction). We know these Stallions need care or their breed will become extinct. Fast as you can adopt a few more Wheel Horses! 1-Dozing 1-Mowing 1-Tilling 1-In the shop (scheduled TLC) 1-Riding on the trail 1-Grading There are many more uses! One with generator on standby duty.....just in case!

2 pointsWheel Horse's were made to work hard and cut grass! I still don't know what Walmart mowers are good for, nothing maybe?
-
2 pointsSpend your money fixing the k181 (right) Not just good enough for now. If you cant do it pay somebody to do it. Theres no reason it shouldnt start almost immediately when you hit the key. Even the pull start 181s start on a half pull most of the time. Its a tough little engine to beat and simple to maintain. If its wore to the point boring and reringing isnt a option used blocks are not that hard to find.

1 pointWell, I enjoy reading all the entries on this site, and admit to chuckling along with the many stories of moments of inattention that resulted in boneheaded maneuvers... However, there was always that secret glee when reading such things... the "glad I have never done that" voice in the back of my head.... Fast forward to today, when I get out of the car and manage to dump the change in my pocket onto the floor of the garage.. As I am on my hands and knees picking it up, I happen to glance into the mower deck on my tractor (looking at it from the discharge chute end.. ) and note to my chagrin that the sails on the blades are pointed downward....

1 pointI'm sure my neighbors think getting the WH is the sanest thing they've seen me do over the years.
-
1 pointWhat size are your rear tires? Larger rear tires will speed you up a little too.
-
1 pointLess Seat Time? Not in these parts partner. But that is a good question, The Wheel Horse manual dose suggest a mowing speed of a “walking speed†if I remember right. An if you got a lot of mowing to do (witch I would classify as more then six beers per sitting ) I could see faster is better, but your in for a long ruff ride. Normally I cut in first gear, in fact I found first too fast. I put a larger pulley on the transmission, I believe I went from a 5†to a 6â€. This gave A nice low speed for trim and close work, and on long straight a ways I now use second. This mod. Worked out well for me. Just my two cents.

1 pointWell, this weekend I'm heading to Arkansas to help my parents by cutting some trees down and work on their water heater. While planning the trip, I mentioned to the wife that I haven't been fishing since I got home from deployment. She took the opportunity to say that she wished I would fish AND hunt more because it apparently makes me easier to deal with and I seem to be happier when I do. And, of course, she like fresh meat. So, I'm dragging my Dad down to the lake like he has done with me so many times. Like I said, I'm a lucky guy.

1 pointAdded LED lights to the back of my GT14. I also added a 2 function electronic flasher. I have a 3 position (ON-OFF-ON) rocker switch to operate the lights. Think I can be seen? Click for video.

1 pointHey guys, stopped in to say hello, haven't done much horse related lately and the stable is currently empty. Just been working a lot and prepping for our first baby. I visit weekly to see what you guys are up to, glad to see this great place growing. Be good! -Will

1 pointThe neighbors kids across the street think I'm very weird, but their dad is a mechanic so they do get a laugh out of the garbage I mess with and understand I'm having fun. The neighbors along side me know me well enough now that if they stay up late and make a ton of noise, I'm not shy to drag an un-muffled Maytag engine out and fire it up with the exhaust facing their yard. Sends them inside in a hurry The summer partying until 3 AM has been getting less frequent lately. -Mark-

1 pointHello all, I was wondering, does anybody know if this piece of kit was wheel horse original... There's nothing like this over here in the UK, this is the first one I've seen and now I really want one, might have to get one shipped in from the states if they are wheel horse original......, or has someone just stuck some wheel horse decals on there? Also, these little model kits are really brilliant, Thanks,

1 pointJeez, I will sell all my tractors plus the implements I have for that price. Of course, then the buyer will have to mow my grass and work up my gardens for me . While I of course, watch ......
-
1 pointJake, both you and your Dad have serious WHA! To soothe the pain you two need two or three 500 series Stallions. That'll make you two feel good for a few weeks. The pain, the pain. Not much you can do but live with it.
-
1 pointNothing wrong with mowing with it. And you can always buy another horse or 30! LOL Between my dad and I we have 32 wheel horses and 6 off brands and have only been collecting a little over 3 years.
-
1 pointDitto on the idea of the purpose of these tractors is to work for their keep. That's why none of the tractors I have are "Show Queens". When I "Refurbish" one it looks good but it's meant to work. If they aren't working they are deteriorating for nothing.
-
1 point...and one just to look at. OH! I see you already have that one. Yeah, you're definitely going to need more tractors.

1 pointMost of my neb. have Crapsman, so they take the car or pick-up to the bank or post office.. Me, I'll take 1 wheel horse to the bank, then bring it home, then get on another one & go to the post office, & just ride the rest of them around town. Mc Donalds is about 2 miles down the road & I have had them through the drive through!!!!
-
1 pointStill a lot cheaper hobby than say--a big boat...or a yearly membership fee @ the country club.... "And those tractors don't argue back--they really seem to appreciate what you do for 'em......" B)
