What is up with some women? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had a chain of, um, debate today with my wife. Apparently there are certain things one should not do in the kitchen. I have a parts washer and a deep sink. But much like my other shop equipment they are not hooked up and running for various reasons too lengthy to get into at this time. So I am left with nothing more than a hose and spray bottle of solvents. I decided today that will just no longer do. So I started off by placing the air box from my truck in the dish washer. I had no idea this was the sort of thing inconsiderate people do until it was pointed out to me. My response was logical but perhaps not that well worded. “Well if dish washers were not meant to wash parts why did my air box and tubing come out so clean?†I also got the impression that things would not have went the way they did had I not mixed in the air box and tubing with our dishes. Okay, lesson one learned for the day. On to lesson two. As I mentioned my deep sink is not operational. However, I do have a nice large double sink in the kitchen. Soaking the brake parts off of my motorcycle in a can of solvent got them cleaner than I expected. But I still had to take a tooth brush to them and wash the solvent off. I figured using the sink in the kitchen was a great idea. Once again, it was pointed out to me that I was wrong. It would seem that cleaning brake parts with a tooth brush over the sink while washing solvents off into the sink at the same time I was cooking spaghetti was not a wise combination of tasks. I felt I was doing a great job of multitasking. Not only was I getting dinner ready, but I was also getting my motorcycle that much closer to getting back on the road. I find it strange how two people can see a situation so differently. And finally, I learned the oven is not intended for non-food items. After dinner I was asked why the oven was on. My response “I just painted the master cylinder on my bike so it is baking in the oven†was not well received at all. I guess that fact that I had painted a part made of aluminum and baking it would help the paint stick was irrelevant to her. No, the fact that I had a freshly painted part in the oven is all she cared to acknowledge. I tell you, I just have no idea what some women are thinking. Her comments today almost had me second guessing my idea of soaking my transfer case in her tub tomorrow. Almost any way…

OK, its my turn to show a horse pushing snow......so,Got a chance to try out my lawn ranger snow plow today after a fast and heavy snow fall today. (sorry you didn't get any Martin ) . With an unfrozen transmission, no weights or chains....it actually did good. I was surprised that this tractor wouldn't even slow down pushing the sloppy, wet and heavy snow. Took a couple pics with my son Andrew at the wheel. (haven't modified this one for kid use yet) .

I ahve been thinking about getting this for a while, but honestly, didn't have the room for it until I got my garage built. I'm hoping I will be able to get it going with the great members here at RS. I will give you some background and hopefully you guys with experience can give me some advice. I picked up a '79 D200 (model 91-20KS02) with PTO shaft and 3 point hitch ,48" deck with seased spindles, heavy steel weight counter balance and (YEA!) 48" FEL (model 07 48FL01). The tractor hasn't ran in about 6 years. The PO was using the FEL when he heard a "pop" and found lil leaking from the rear diff. He found the case cracked on the bottom right half of the case. The tractor has been parked ever since. The PO inherited the tractor from his father who actually had two D's and collected quite a few spare parts as well. One spare part was a diff that was repaired because it had been cracked in exactly the same way as the one curently under the tractor. The spare diff appears to have the crack silver soldered with a plate covering the motor mount so I'm hoping it was gone thru with new bolts but the PO was not sure of the repair. I understand the bolts were a weak link in these diff - I think the bolts needed to be changed out with grade 8 bolts?? So, take a look and tell me what you think of my find. Here are my questions I would like you experts to please chime in on as I have ZERO hydro experience. I believe the 10W-40 oil circulates thru the hydro pump, motor, diff and the lift cylinders - is this correct. If so, would the diff being would you flush the entire system of any debris or would the filter in the diff keep the ""trash" isolated in the diff? I have some questions about the hydro mannifold connections but I will save them for the trans forum. Thanks in advance for your input!

Putting shop rags in the washer with her work clothes is also a great idea! If you have never done it please do and you will have an experience like no other! :)

If I can't find what I'm looking for with a few different keywords I search any part numbers next. Sometimes I'm searching for some thread I've read before and I know it's still around but the basic keywords won't help at all. Then I try the part number thing or something associated with it. Sometimes it takes forever, sometimes I throw the question out there while I'm searching as well. Sometimes a pm to a knowledgeable member is a great way to go too.... Don't forget, google searches are your friend as well... And most often they lead back here and the info your looking for! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

"In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backward. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a very easy one, but people do not practice it much. In the everyday affairs of life it is more useful to reason forward, and so the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason synthetically for one who can reason analytically." take the dipstick that shows no oil level - put it in the "other K321's". If it doesn't indicate an oil level in the "other engines" then please consider the source of your stupefaction may be that you possess a 'stick of insufficient proportion.

I've been thinking about this for some time now while perusing the various forums here at Redsquare. Over the years a lot of knowledge has been compiled here in this archive of Wheel Horse Collector-ship and user information. You have covered it all from hood ornaments to hitches, and everything in between. So here's my question, or challenge if you will. Is there a category or question about Wheel Horse tractors that has not been addressed here in the hallowed halls of Redsquare? I believe that it's all here in one form or another, either in text or in pictures and text, or in videos. So how do we figure it out? If you have a question you don't know the answer to, do a search and see if you find what you are looking for. The search feature is a great tool here, but it can be a little tricky to use. I'm still learning how to use it after all this time. This is the point at which those of you who are more astute at searching could offer us some tips for successful searching. (TT, rmaynard, Mikesrj, Martin, to name just a few of you who may be more knowledgeable about computer searches and Redsquare than many of us.) I for example was told to keep my search description short, using key words to find what I'm looking for. After many searches that yielded nothing, I tried this and got results on the same searches I had done before. So it proves that just because a search produces zero results it doesn't mean the information isn't here. Now let's try this... 1. You have a question you don't think has been covered here. 2. You do a search that produces no results. 3.Now you ask your question here and see if someone else searches and gets a result to post here for you. (the searcher should quote the original poster) 4. At the worst, everyone who participates in this gets a little better at using the search feature. 5. At the absolute worst, Karl and the posse shut this thread down because it's using too much forum space. 6. We find the one remaining topic that hasn't been addressed here on Redsquare!! Who has that one question rolling around in their head? Happy Horsing!

the horses were getting restless so when the sun poppped out today it seemed fitting to give em fresh air. was kinda rushed but here are some pics. 77' C-160 auto fully restored, 82' C-175 eight speed, 74' C-160 auto original attachment=12929:003 (640x480).jpg] maybe some one can tell me why the rear wheels on the 77' have solid centers instead of the more popular four point centers like on the other two. I saw this style wheel one other time some where on a C-160 I think as I was browsing through images on the web.

Hello All, I was looking around a gun auction site that is similar to ebay.... those that know me know that Johne Wayne is my hero and that any rifle sporting a lever action floats my boat..... Well I have a soft spot for "cool" military stuff too such as the M16, AK47 and the such, today I stumbled across this and couldn't believe that Mossberg is actually producing this about 50 miles from my house! Just imagine that John Wayne had kept up with technology all these years.... LOL Check it out----> I may have to order one and then get all the sick attachments for it!!!!!!! http://www.gunbroker...?Item=327331454

Some of you may remember I bought my first Black Hood just before Christmas. Its a 1984 C-125. Overall it ran well, but I kept having this problem with it not getting enough gas to the carb. It was a one owner. Owner was deceased, and it had not been run for some time but did have a new fuel pump installed to get it running so it could be sold in that (running) condition. Anyway, I bought it and played with it some. I thought whatever problem it had would work itself out as it did need to be run and have some hours put on it. I did the normal stuff to it (for me) like changed the fuel lines and cleaned the fuel tank and installed new fuel filter and cleaned the carb bowl. Still had the same problem with it running out of fuel. So the next thing for me was thinking the fuel pump was bad. I discovered it was not the correct pump. It was pumping veryvery little fuel. Just enough to keep the K-301 running (mostly). So I bought another fuel pump, installed it and finally was getting some gas to the carb. Enough gas that it was pouring out the front of the carb! So I thought the float was bad or the needle was stuck in the open position. Next move of course was to remove the carb, remove the bowl and check the needle. Thats when I found out the needle was MIA!!! Evidently the defective fuel pump was pumping just enough fuel into the carb to keep it running good most of the time but starved for fuel some of the time. Anyway, a quick trip to the spare Walbro carb pile and I had a needle in hand. I then installed it in the C-125 Walbro #52 carb, cut a new gasket, Installed the carb and had the C-125 purring like a kitten. Feels good to have that behind me. Also feels good to be sitting near the old Buck Stove I love my wood burner What did you guys do today?????????????????

I got so tired of the noise on my 1267 that I switched to a Gravely muffler in an effort to quieten it down. It is quieter than the pepperpot, but still too noisy for me. I have the same muffler on the 8hp in my Ranger and I really do like it on the smaller engine. A pipe on the 1267 might help a bit, but I really need to find something else I think.

The PTO should have a brake on it. If it is not properly adjusted, or the PTO is not fully disengaging, it will continue to spin. Take a look at the PTO brake adjustment procedure in your owners manual. It's on page 24. If you don't have a manual, one can be downloaded from the manuals section. Even thought the title says B-Series, it covers the C-121

Mine all spin when disengaged and there are no attachments on the machine such as a deck. I would take off the PTO, make sure its greased correctly (not to much!) and put it back together and not worry about it. Mike..............

Mine spin if there are no belts attached to the pulleys but if a belt is on like for a mower deck or snow blower, it doesn't. I suppose I could adjust the pto brake alittle better and it might not spin.

So far quantity and quality of snow here in CT has been lousy. Have not used the blower yet this year, only the plow. Here are a couple of pics from 2010.

We were in Saginaw for the weekend to see my father in law, so when we got back Chop was bouncing off the walls with from not doing much. Got him out plowing to burn some energy! The snow was kinda heavy and wet as the temp was above freezing, so I had him dump it at the end of the drive so I could use the blower to shoot it up the banks. I had him running the video for my seat time, but he only got the last 45 seconds. I think I see a pattern forming! The family asked the wife about shoveling snow, but she shook her head and mumbled something about dealing with a couple kids and their toys. I did find out that the blower will shoot a newspaper into the neighbors yard so Catman (don't ask) now has two. A tall shoot might have got me enough distance to get it a couple yards down. So here's the Chop burning energy:

I want to add that I have replaced this starter before. Guessing that since I don't use this tractor much (shame on me!) it just got lonely. I suppose that's one of the downsides of having a barn full of tractors. (Please don't tell the wife!)
  22. 1 point
Bazinga!!! Replaced the starter on the 14hp and it started right up. The starter that was on it was stiff to turn over. I'll pull it apart and report my findings...probably just needs a good cleaning.

Sounds like a good ending to the Story Van. And I have my propane fireplace fired up. It was 3 here lastnite and now freezing rain coming tonite after Midnite. I went to the workplace today and worked on the beltguard for the 160 restoration.

There's some linen beige snow in my back yard near where my dogs run. I would send you some but I don't think you would like it! :)

:twocents-02cents: This is a couple pictures of the 520H. Haven't had squat for snow this season. I ran it yesterday for only the second time, both times maybe 2" on the ground.

:ROTF: I'm glad I am not married for the above reasons. But you got to remember that the kitchen is her work shop and how would you like it if she went into your shop and started to use your tools to make dinner? Just something to consider.

My arsenal is ready to go! And we have had record no snow this year. Record latest first snow. Record latest 1" of snow. Record number of days between 1" snow. We finally did get an inch of snow a couple days ago so I fired up the tractor to plow. Hat cam! Apparently my head is crooked and a little loose. Today we're supposed to get a quarter inch of ice. I don't think the blades or blower will be much good for that.

Have never used Seafoam. Now, thanks forum members, at the top of my shopping list.
  34. 1 point
I have used the liquid seafoam directly into the carb throat or through a vacuum line in older cars I dumped it in until the car stalls then let it sit for a while then start it up and take off down the road wide open throttle and it leaves a huge cloud of smoke. :auto-swerve:

do your self a favor and run a compression check before you go any further !!!!!!if it is between 75 and 125 psi you are with in spec. if at lower end you may want to do a decarbon and valve job but if you go to the manual it will tell you how to check all components of the electrical, coil, ignition trigger, rebuilding carb an a whole lot more. so run the compression check 1st. who knows it could be just bad plugs or wires. i just had to replace the plugs in my 520H that i have my 2 stage blower on. last week i went to start it and it started missing and blowing fire out the exhaust. ran a compression check found 120 psi per cylinder, put new set of plugs in and it even starts better now, blew 2" of snow real good last night and ran like a champ. just my 2 cents worth eric j

when you remove the cylinder heads, you can rotate the engine till each valve is open, then check to see if the seat is loose, usualy will fall right out of the block. or the seat might be loose and holding a valve open, which would cause it to hit on one cylinder. You could also need new plug wires, espicaly after sitting outdoors for awhile. You can get a spark checking tool at Harbor Freight Tools, costs about 10 bucks. Goes inline with the plug wire and lights up when it fires. You can watch to see if the spark is intermitten or not. It fires both plugs at the same time. Is it a P or B series Onan? B series has points. The stator under the flywheel is just for charging the battery and running the Tach. If its a P or Performer series, it has electronic ignition, has a trigger ring under the flywheel to tell it when to spark. I would rule out an ignition issue after it has sat this long. If all the ignition checks out, then move to other tests. Adjusting the valves, done with the engine cold, intake should be .005 feeler gauge and the exhaust is .013. Takes 2 open end wrenches to adjust the lifters. You will need 2 new head gasgets before pulling the heads and decarboning them and the tops of the pistons/valve area. Be carefull where the headgasget seals, you do NOT want to use steel wool ect. A good carb cleaner, parts cleaner tank and a small putty knife is what I use, carefull with the putty knife. A brillo pad swiped from under the kitchen sink when the boss lady isnt looking works well to. I run Seafoam in the fuel to help keep the carbon issue down. The valves and valve seat tends to be more of an issue than carbon, unless its burning oil. Make sure your cooling fins, both on the jugs(front and rear) and around the crankcase are clean and oil free. Fix any oil leaks. Keeping the Onan cool is priority number one! Once you adjust the valves to spec, dont be alarmed to hear them clicking, espicaly when at lower rpm's. Thats normal, not hearing them is a good sign they are out of adjustment. Post up what you find and let me know.

Here is a couple more photos from plowing snow today. The tire and chain combo is the best I have ever used. I have tried just about as many different things out there from turf tires, ag tires, chains, no chains, wheel weights, no wheel weights...and this tire "Carlisle HD Field Trax" with 2-link chains and 50lbs weights seems to be the best. I have about a 300 foot driveway on a very steep incline. This setup seems to just plug right along whether we have a wet snow, fine snow, ice, slush....it just works in everything. Thad (Ohio)
