6 pointsI was informed by an attorney who works for a certain company headquartered in Bloomington, MN that as long as it was non-profit / not for resale / personal use that it was fine with them. From what I gather, they are not interested in granting permission to small-time individuals making "trinkets and do-dads". (no money in it for them) I ask that that can of worms not be opened and discussed openly on this forum. It could potentially jeopardize the manufacturing of certain items that assist in the repair, refurbishing, restoration, and beautification of equipment. Remember the old saying - "loose lips sink ships". :silence:

5 points"In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backward. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a very easy one, but people do not practice it much. In the everyday affairs of life it is more useful to reason forward, and so the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason synthetically for one who can reason analytically." take the dipstick that shows no oil level - put it in the "other K321's". If it doesn't indicate an oil level in the "other engines" then please consider the source of your stupefaction may be that you possess a 'stick of insufficient proportion.

4 pointsI'm pretty sure dipstick stretchers can be attained if you visit the proper website. You might also want to check your e-mail spam folder for persons offering pills that allegedly accomplish similar results.
-
4 pointsSure sounds to me like some shenanigans have happened in the past with that dip stick. Or a dipstick used the wrong stick, so to speak.

3 pointsMy Kids sure love their Red Square hats!! And of course they can't wait to get out the Lawn rangers this spring as they each will have their own to drive. :)

2 pointsAnother 8 inches here in the uk last night. The most I've seen in one drop for a very long time. Here is halfway through a 2 hour clear up.

2 pointsAh Ha, Watson! A Teflon dipstick! Personally, there are a lot of dipsticks going around here!
-
2 pointsMaybe the Oil doesn't like being with that stick (been waiting a long time to use Craig's Smiley). Maybe the part numbers on the dipsticks are different :confusion-shrug:

2 pointsNot sure what she could do considering I never sold any of these and only made this one for my daughter... Worst she could do is write a song about me :laughing-rofl:
-
2 pointsIts probably not a copy write issue if it's photos was taken by you of tractors cars etc...BUT, it is a copy write issue if you take a photo of famous people..Such as this photo of Taylor Swift..I took the photo and modified the photo into a scroll saw woodworking pattern and cut it out on wood. If I sell this piece without written permission Taylor Swift could sue me for it.. There was a huge discussion about this very topic on one of the scroll saw forums as a few of us do picture-to-wood-portraits.. I stopped doing them of famous people when I found this out..I do still make custom ones from personal pictures such as wedding couples and family photos etc. Kevin

2 pointsThanks Andy, Pm and email received. Thanks Stephen, lol yeah she sure has evolved since I started the build. The belt was coming off at the belt tensioner and occasionally the rear trans pulley when the belt decided it wanted to be even more of a pain! Good thinking about the L shaped bit of metal, I'm hoping it won't be needed now but your idea is stashed away just in case it is needed. Thanks Brad. After Mondays fun and games with the drive belt jumping off too many times, the time had come to get it sorted (again) so I could enjoy all of the engines power without the belt jumping off.. Part of the problem is the tensioner pulley.. The small lips each side work just fine if your using a standard length drive belt, but a belt that's twice the length is a bit different and bounces around a lot more.. I guess you can guess where I'm going with this A spare pulley had some extra lip welded on.. Cutting the two rings of steel took quite a while to machine to size and shape.. Sorry about the blurred photo, my brain must of been having a bad focus moment! Andy (the good chap that he is) sent me a couple of WH belt tensioner photo's to give me a few ideas.. Thank you Sir, you inspired me to come up with this idea.. Simple really, a bunch of bearings bolted above the belt with a strengthening bracket behind.. Now I know it's starting to look like I'm getting a dexion fetish, but I wanted to see if the idea worked before cutting up good steel These bearings do not put any tension on the belt, they are just there to stop the belt jumping up and down so much.. While this was going on Pete was busy working on axe head number 2.. It's almost finished.. Soooooo.. With the drive belt sorted and Pete finished playing "mad axe man" for the day there was only one thing left to do... Yep, go for a drive It's made it this far.. I might of got a bit carried away taking photo's at this point.. A couple of action shots And of course..

2 pointsNext, I went about painting up the weights and got everything mounted. The end of the barbbell shaft was drilled and tapped for a collar that held the weights on. So I took advantage of this and used it to secure the weights on. That's all! Just thought I'd share it. Turned out pretty good and added 125 pounds to the rear end of my D.

2 pointsGot my little round hood fitted with a snow blade today, it does pretty good for as small as it is, for small snow falls I'll play with this, but bigger snows I'll use the 520, the hyd lift on this is nice, I can pick the front tires up about 3/4" off the ground for good down pressure, and still raise the blade up about 6" off the ground.
-
2 pointsHere is a pict of my snow team.. Raider 10 whit blade going to order me chains to it.. and a 312-8 whit tall shoot blower.. here is a pict of the chains im going to order me..

2 pointshere is my c141 automatic with a tall chute blower, 140 lb wheel weights on the back. (this is the one that was giving me trouble during the storm saturday all is well now) this is a 314-8 with a 42 in plow. put the front weights on for this storm, help steering alot also have rear wheel weights, 150lb of suitcase weights and then another 30 lbs of plates on the plow to scrape better. you can just see the plates in the picture

2 points**Update** Finally a quick storm dropped 4-5 inches on Eastern Pennsylvania. Grandson was thrilled, '85 416-8 was assigned to the task. Pushed snow back 'n off some grass, making room for another event. So far, no need to mount the blower. At 5-years old, he can't reach the pedals. Low-low gear, walking speed, how exciting can that be for a little man?

2 pointsJust got in from plowing..right in the middle of the storm here on the CT coast. I picked up a 75 C-100 this fall and got to break it in tonight.. Wet and heavy snow coming down a a good clip the whole time. Looks like about 8 inches as of about 8 pm and probably almost half of that fell while I was plowing. Whatever else falls will have to wait till tomorrow. Nobody else to take pictures so this is all ya get.. Didn't look too bad out of the gate.. Now it looks bad... Running out of room already.. Had to dismount for this picture... Let it snow, let it snow, let it....OK enough already...

1 pointwell i decided it was time to stop messing around and get started on tearing the 1054 apart. ive been wanting to get started on it for a few weeks now but just couldnt bring myself to stop riding it and start rebuilding it. everything else that needs fixing is better done with it apart, the rust in the back as well as the normal wear everywhere there is movement or play etc. this is going to be a worker rebuild. all the rust, dents and holes not needed will be fixed, but im not getting carried away with real nice paint etc. its going to be powdercoated as much as possible, it will still look nice, just with the process of powdercoat theres no filler or hi build primer etc. so the metal substrate has to be really good or its gonna show. and this tractor isnt perfect to start with so we will see how it turns out. i am gonna try to make it look nice, but i also want to use it and have some fun on it too. here it was a few hours ago..... how i finished up tonight..... the 875 is just looking on, as bit by bit the 1054 slowly disappears.....

1 pointOut for a ride today in the cold, Connecticut countryside today. I actually turned around to stop and take the picture. I bet some keen Yankee member here might even be able to identify where I took it.. Hope ya like it.

1 pointYesterday after work I mocked up a dash panel with some cardboard, just to see if I could come up with a lay out I liked and make all the gauges fit in the space I had, there are a few supports in the main part of the dash I had to work around. Here is what I came up with, room for all 4 gauges, two light switches, key switch, and the throttle. Today I built the real dash with some 1/8" thick aluminum I had here, cut out with a jig saw at this point. Here I have the steering column hole and mounting screw holes in, and all the sides trimmed and finished. Main holes drilled, I still at this point need to make the slot for the throttle, and file the flat sided hole to mount the key switch, but it is looking better. after 4 hours of cutting, drilling, filling and sanding here it is, everything fits nice, and yes I have two hour meters in there, I still need to order another gauge for the 4th hole, more on that later, but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, I will probably just paint it black for now, but I plan to send it to our decal guy here and have him make a dash overlay decal with all the lettering on it.

1 pointi'd say tear down the starter and give it a good cleaning, check the brushes ect. i'm no expert but it sounds like an electrical issue to me. key switch, relay, wiring somethings not right.

1 pointok great thanks. if i end up keeping the tractor then i know i have a good fork to put in when i decide to tackle it.

1 pointmy driveway is 400' long with a 50'X100' parking area, planning to pave it eventually but for now i'm tired of pushing my gravel into my yard and scratching up sod here and there when i plow snow. so i got an idea. here are some pics of my driveway. i took an old moldbord that was bent and wore past the wear plate bolts and straightened it, and welded a piece of heavy wall pipe directly to the front skin and the back channel. then cut caps out of 1/8" plate and welded them in place. by the way i also had an old rough looking pre 73' short frame i got free some time along the way and decided it would be good for a second plow to use on my C-series tractors. so i cut it and added a piece and fish plated it, and added a cross bar at the correct lift point.] then needed to lengthen the pivot point for the angle lever. just used a piece of 2"X 3/8" plate welded over the original bracket adding the additional 2" needed. also the short angle lever needed 4" added to it so the throw length would be increased thus decreasing the lever travel so as not to contact the running board rod or the PTO. and here we are. got snow today and other than primer and paint, which will come after the maiden voyage, its ready to push snow, and ONLY SNOW! I will let you know how it goes.
-
1 pointNope, no cutting edge just the pipe. Tried it, it worked good, I got other plows and blades if things get bad and cutting in is required but at that point the driveway is usually packed and frozen and the cutting edge works good. But what I was looking for is a plow to push the light fluffy stuff without needing to watch the hight and the need to be ultra careful. I know how to do a good careful job and have for years, just hoping for some alternative. Anyway all this is just for fun right. I mean if I wanted to be serious about snow removal I would get the JD 2155 fwd out and get it done in a few passes. Thanks for the replies. Gonna post a video my wife shot for me.

1 pointJust throwing an idea out there....How about some type of theme of the month for the pictures? Say, one month its early round hoods, next month, later round hoods, c series of the month, customs of the month, worker of the month, black hood of the month. 3,4,5 series of the month, well, you get the picture. Maybe this will bring some tractors out of the wood work? There could always be a limit to the first 10 or so submissions to get into the voting process to make the choices easier to make? No likey idea, no problemo!

1 pointThe Eagle is my buddy's baby. He's had it since he was 15, his first car. The Chief has a 10hp Kohler and he got a mowing deck with it. The deck is in excellent condition. He is wanting to restore it for show.
-
1 pointNot sure if we want to connect the Wheel Horse of the month and the calendar. Maybe that'll be the subject of another vote?
-
1 pointJust what "Smo" stated above. The Xi is in many ways a better tractor. Heavy and it could have come air-cooled or with the Kawasaki Liquid-cooled engine plus possible power steering. But formost is the attachments. The attachments for the Xi series are not plentiful since the Xi series didn't have the run over the years that the C-series, 300, 400 and 500 series tractors enjoyed for decades. Many including TT who's opinion I value will say the Xi was Toro/Wheelhorse's best tractor ever made but there are still those pros and Con's. Your 417 has an Onan onboard and with it that "stigma" of expense if anything does happen to it. Since you have a blower a deck and a mid-grader for 1500 bucks, I would shoot for it and if you have to, sell the 417. But only if the Xi has low hours, was cared for and those attachments for the Xi are in good shape.

1 pointAfter some inspiration from a few members for wheel weights and chains, I decided to put my thinking cap on and design some tire chain tensioners and wheel weights for my D180. I found some spring type tensioners from a few vendors on ebay, but decided that none of them had enough springs to do an adequate job. After some hunting, I ended up finding some springs at Home Depot, but they ended up being too long. So I cut each of them in half, then heated the end and formed a new loop in which to pass a 1/8" vinyl cable through. Purchased 4 springs for each wheel, which gave me 8 springs per wheel when I was through. Ended up with just the right amount of tension to tighten the springs equally all the way around. More to follow... Seems I can never add more than 4 pics at a time.

1 pointwell with the freezing rain & sleet today i was in the shop cleaning up & the c165 started talking to me. so i took off the hood, engine shrouds & head. the bore measures 3.74 . it has a standard piston but also a little ring ridge. so this one will get a .10 oversize bore . i can wiggle the piston in the bore. i hope the crank is good. . does anyone have a 16 hp air cleaner hat they want to get rid of? having run without the air cleaner prob. took out the rings. the shroud has some stress cracks where the coil bolts to it but all the k341s i've had are the same way. v them out weld them up& add a reinforcement plate on the inside. 1 pointgotta save it no matter what the cost. dont let a little thing like cash stand in your way, this is a good cause, humanitarian even. just spend the money, you can always make more. i mean take my self for example, the last three i got cost me $45.00 plus gas.

1 pointkevin i had an old bracket that was for a rear trac vac, I welded a 2" receiver to it I bought a trailer hitch and cut off the part where the ball bolts on I then welded a piece of flat stock to it to hold the weights and a couple pieces of flat stock to stop them from sliding out this works well for me, i took a cargo carrier that i made and made a box for it, i use the tractor like a little truck around the yard

1 pointThat is just a special kind of stupid right there.

1 pointSo my tractor has needed a new seat since I bought it. I was using a boat cushion but stumbled across this seat while down south visiting my sister. A few pieces of angle iron and I have a nice flip seat now. I was able to move the seat back to give me more room and also added some seat springs. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Nice and easy access to the gas tank as well

1 pointWe got 11 hitches built so far. Its been a busy Sat and know I have a sick little girl So I haven't got all I wanted to get done this weekend. I didn't get the extra plates drilled like I wanted and Tom is still working on the square hole thing. Trying to get them made without spending $130 on a broach. I plan on getting them cleaned up and ready to paint in the next day or so. Here is a pic of the hitches We had some help with the welding this time around, Tyler witch is Toms son is taking welding classes at his high school and we decided that it was time to put him to work! And what a pic that Tom took of me that I thought was cool looking If all goes well this week and Gabby is feeling better, I should have all the hitches that were ordered without the extra plates shipped out next Sat. Also we will build the rest of the hitches, XI hitch, and the tiller hitch next Sat also. 16 sold and I have room for 6 more without getting any more material If needed I will buy more.
-
1 pointIf you had put some spacers on the bracket for the C-160 you would not have to remove it to mow.
-
1 pointHere's one of my favorites! Factory original RJ58 with Front Cutter Bar! I bought it off an old timer and he said he'd have to have big money for it. I asked him how much we wanted and he said $75.00!! So I said I'd take it for that! Hehe! I loaded it up fast! It didn't have the Front Cutter Bar on it at that time. Keith

1 pointThe Carlisle tire is called "All Trail" part # is 511505 and it is a 23x10.50-12. They are mounted on factory Wheel Horse rims, but they were from a 520H. Here is a photo of the tires without the chains....I really like them....the right balance between turf and ag tires. Easy on the lawn too. Thad (Ohio)
