Hold on cowboy - breath in and out of a brown paper bag for a few minutes and calm down . There are no dirty little secrets regarding balance gears. After 20 or 30 years of faithful service, the roller bearings supporting the balance gears will loosen up causing the gears to wobble. Wobbling at high speeds increases internal stresses on the gears. Under this increased workload the gears can suddenly decide to leave their place within the engine and seek an easier life outside the confines of the shortblock. If the gears or their mounting shafts are worn, either one can be replaced and survive another 20 years. Balance gears can also be removed during shortblock disassembly or by "cold chisel persuasion". The takeaway here is making sure we address this concern from a point of educated understanding, not one of fear spawned from ignorance.

Back in 1964-65 I stopped into a car Dealership to see the latest-I went to a small building in downtown South Bend-it was the offices of Rommey Hammes Ford-Factory Racing division-Mr **** Brannan. He had a brand new Whimbilton White Ford 427-SOHC-T-Bolt with a beefed Auto trans. Ready for Factory backed Drag competition. He allowed me to sit in it-briefly start it up-I will NEVER forget the whine, roar, shaking, I was a 6'3 255lbs Tackle from Illinois-but I was SCARED& thrilled all at once. He offered it to me for $4000 and my car. I must have figured it 57 ways from Sunday how I could do it and not have my Old Man kill me outright. Then I said with dry lips-"No I can't"........I want to GO BACK!-Al

A Pennsylvania Railroad T1 Steam locomotive: Fifty two T1 locomotives were built from 1942 to 1946. One of the most technologically advanced steam locomotives ever built.. they were fast and powerful passenger train locomotives.. but they were only used until 1952, when the diesel invasion made them obsolete..none survived the scrappers torch.. If I could have my choice and money wasn't an issue, I'd hop on down to West End Power in Danbury CT. (10 minutes from me) and buy the NOS 420LSE Wheel Horse they have sitting in back, waitin for me. I wouldn't cut grass with it but I'd sure as hell ride it around at the shows smokin cigars and pimp in style.

I might like my Chevy's but when it comes to vintage drag cars and muscle cars I like my Mopars just as much. I have always been a HUGE fan of the Sox & Martin drag team. I built many a model of their drag cars way back in the day when I was a kid, still have a few of em as a matter of fact. Little story, my father in law was a drag racer back in the day, not the street racer type, he raced against other pro's. Back sometime in 1970 he was racin in York Pa. when he met up with Ronnie Sox. Somehow he wound up with an 8x12 picture signed by Mr. 4-speed himself. At least 25 yrs. ago when my Father in Law found out I was a fan of Sox & Martin he gave me the picture, which of course I still have! Out of all of their drag cars this one is above and beyond my favorite. Back in the early 60's they raced a Chevy Impala, then Mercury and finally Mopar. If I could ever get my hands on this car I'd figure out a way to drive it on the streets every day I possibly could.

Had to go watch my Daughter cheer tonight, but before we left I got the left fender all tack welded up, and the holes drilled to mount it. Inner rail mounted, and upper brace on. Inner brace installed after getting the fender all tacked up, I pushed it outside to clean up, so I took a few pics. I figure by the time I have the fenders and footrest all welded up, I'm going to have about 25 or so hours into them, but I think it was worth it, I hope sometime this weekend to get the fan guard all built.

Got my little round hood fitted with a snow blade today, it does pretty good for as small as it is, for small snow falls I'll play with this, but bigger snows I'll use the 520, the hyd lift on this is nice, I can pick the front tires up about 3/4" off the ground for good down pressure, and still raise the blade up about 6" off the ground.

I would retrieve my 1969 RS Camaro. just a small block 327, 2 speed powerglide but had some headers, 4 barrel carb and a lopey cam. sold it back in 83 when I joined the Army. right thing to do , at the time, just married and baby...but wish there was a way to time capsule it.

Scot glad to see another "foamer" around here but mine would have to be a Lehigh Valley Alco C-628 in the snowbird scheme of coarse... 2800 horsepower of pure 4 cycle turbocharged diesel fury, smoked like a steam engine under load, pulled so hard they literally tore up the rails underneath them. None survived all fell to the scrapper's torch except for a few units that went to Mexico but I think they met the same fate

I would have to say I would pull the Back to the Future trick and buy the sports Almanac. Then I would have all the cars and bikes I want. If the Almanac is not available I would love to have my 67 Buick Special back. Or at least that half second before I asked my sister if it was clear to pull out. We still debate weather she said "no" or "go". Either way I heard go and the rest...Including my Buick is history!!!!!!!

Was reading back a ways and came across a thread that talked about " balancing gears" as " Grenade gears" in K series engines. So I got all these tractors lined up in my garage that are a ticking time bomb? Sure seems like an issue that needs to stay near the front of these discussions as often as possible or is it the dirty little secret that no body wants to think about let alone talk about? Wow! I shutter to think about the time let alone the cost to fix this little problem. Anyone wanna donate some time this weekend? Might have to set up an assembly line. LOL.

Craig, Taking cast off and getting into PT is the big benefit of having ORIF(Open reduction, internal fixation). if they just casted a fracture, you have to wait 4-6 weeks in cast then remove and then PT. by putting in plates and screws (better than grade 8) you can start PT and get range of motion and strength back sooner. of course PT will be painful! PT person: Mr AMC Rules, you are gonna hate me, but I'll have you walking soon"

For the most part, model numbers changed from the x-xxxx to the xx-xxxxxx system in 1976, several years after AMC bought Wheel Horse. The C-160 that you referenced is designated in the model number as 61-16KS02. 19716 is the serial number, and the 6103 is the Julian date that it was built.

It's not really "Wheel Horse juice" that runs the actuator - it is the capacity of the onboard battery and appropriate wiring to the actuator. For the sake of conversation, say the actuator draws 30 amps for 10 seconds. This energy comes from the battery. The regulator and stator on board the tractor "sees" the voltage drop on the battery and responds by charging the battery back up to 14.5 volts. The RR may only supply 10 amps to charge the battery but 10 amps x 30 seconds is equal to the draw of 30 amps x 10 seconds. The same amount of energy shuttles in and out of the battery, just faster out than back in. You make a power withdrawl from the battery energy bank and replenish your energy account with the RR unit. If you continualy draw more from the bank than you can replenish ... well then sadly you have the equivalent of a modern day government economics lesson.

Drove to Maryland today to save another horse. Thought it was a 854 but ended up being a 753. Didn't care, cause it was still a Horse and a round hood at that. Don't know too much about the 753 other than the basics you can figure out from the model number. Here she is

Thanks, Jake. Sparky... yeah, I almost shed a tear when i saw the hood was cut for a bigger muffler. I've got a buddy that restores Ferrari's so he's pretty good at metal/body work. Hoping he can fix it. I plan on restoring, right after the RJ-58 which is waiting for warm weather to paint.

The 10W30 oil will be as thick as 10W oil at 0 degrees which is thinner than what 30W would be at 0 degrees. When the engine is warmed up the 10W30 will be as thin as 30W oil would be at that temperature but not as thin as what 10W oil would be. Didn't want somebody thinking that the multi viscosity oil thickens as it heated up....I guess to be accurate....it doesn't thin as much....somebody stop me before I hurt myself....

Well heres a couple links to vids I posted...anyone who says these D series machines cant push snow is way wrong. I have no weight other than my butt and the factory weights on the back. 2 psi of air in the back tires and 25 in the fronts. I have few issues with traction, even on the private road in front of the house which I plow in its entirety. I dont know how it would act with 24 inches but it handled 7 of heavy wet snow without an issue....other than the carb/fuel pump and thats got nothing to do with anything other than a very tired engine that needs some serious TLC....

Just picked up this blower for my D180 about a month ago and spent some time doing some basic restoration to make it usable this winter. Plan to take it all the way down in the spring, but this will do to get me through this winter. Looking forward to some snow!
