MY NEW HAT ARRIVED!! Linen Beige was my choice for this one. Its very difficult to take a face shot of yourself I discovered after like 8 attempts. this was the least scariest pic I was able to manage to get. (My apologies to anyone who was trying to eat while viewing this.) Mike.........

We all know how light in the loafers round hoods are in the front.Using the back blade on my 704 created some interesting wheelies. I thought about a tombstone. They are real cool but cheap that I am I wanted something different and more practical. I can use suitcase weights on my C-160 and Power King as well. Bracket in primer. I'm using the front quick hitch holes so i put in a spacer for the front holes in the bracket. I liked it so much mocked up I made one for the 160. A bit different so it will come off easy for mowing. Bracket on the 704 Finished Bracket also doubles as a handy place for my I.D. tag

I got a few of the herd out today since it is sunny and warm! I decided to put my nice old pair of early WH Hubcaps that I got a couple of weeks ago on a tractor. I put them on my one owner 603 Special. They cleaned up well but maybe not nice enough for a show tractor. This nice old WH was owned by a little old lady of 83 years old. She couldn't pull the recoil starter no more so she had an electric start Tecumseh engine installed on it years ago and a set of fenders and tool box. I got the original 6 hp Tecumseh engine but I also like the way it is now and it's a cool part of it's history! How is it you always stop the machine and the Wheel Horse emblems are in the perfect location?!

got a call wed. night from the brother of a friend. they are into cleaning out old farms & places for the scrap. so i saved this 310-8 from going to the crusher. looks like the engine was out for a rebuild & somthing happened. all the pto clutch pulleys & parts were wired to the frame as well as the drive pulley& mower mule drive & belt. the gas line was plugged off & the tank doesn't smell varnishy. one front tire goes flat & it had a 12volt fan bolted to the hood . there wasn't a mower deck but for $75.00 dollars i couldn't pass it up! then while i was leaving i bought an onan twinn & a kohler magnum vertical shaft for 5 dollars apiece. SCORE ! the pictures are after a quick wipedown with a rag dipped in the parts washer. the other 310-8 towed it back to it's new home in the tractor shed. so now i am on the lookout for a complete 10-14 hp k series or magnum to put this back together. come on whcc in june. I had some of the herd out today, it was warm and sunny out but a little too windy. I cleaned up some stuff and made a spot in the barn to squeeze in another tractor from the outside pile! I squeezed in a 1964 Lawn Ranger, it took a shoe horn to wedge it in! Another one saved from the ravages of the weather. Wahoo! KJ

putting on goodyear six ply implement traction tires has me wore out. two big srew drivers and a pry bar. these things dont give. these tires are so hard you dont even really have to add any air. the dee stones on the front were a breeze.

I'm surprised in your results. I went from a Charger 12 to a 522xi, both with plows, weights, and chains, and I have to say that I find the extra weight of the 5xi makes a difference for me. I have 550 feet of blacktop with a hill leading up to the road, and I very rarely spin the wheels. Moving dry snow is easy, but when you get the heavy wet stuff is when I want the most weight possible under me. When making a long run with the Charger 12 in the heavy stuff, when it would start to back up in front of the blade, the weight in front of the blade would become too much, and the machine would start to slide sideways a little, loosing some of its bite on the snow that was being pushed. The 5xi rarely ever gets "bumped out" by the snow that I am pushing. I can push going uphill with no problem on the 5xi, where I know I use to spin the tires on the Charger 12. I would also take smaller bites and more passes with the Charger due to its limitations. With the xi I usually cut with 3/4 of the width of the blade at full throttle and it throws the snow to the side pretty well. I am using two link chains which provide a smooth ride, and work well on the blacktop. I would go with what ever works best for you. Smaller machines eat less gas. I am surprised how much gas I go through on the 5xi compared to the Kohler 12 in the Charger. I have attached a picture from a recent storm here in Connecticut. I have a plow on one 5xi and a two stage blower on the other 5xi. In my opinion, having the two tractors is way more fun than having a plow truck. Rick

FAIL! The guinea pig is an officially-embossed seat cover from an early 80's Work Horse LT Even warmed up, it's quite brittle and stiff. Although the Goop "trick" I read about was technically for vinyl automotive seats, I figured it was worth a shot on this seat cover. Here's the seat: The Goop seagull flew over Worked in with my fingers first, then an old toothbrush: Nothing really changed in the feel of the cover, but it did remove the surface dirt: Once that spot dried, I applied some mink oil. It made it a little better looking, but didn't penetrate the cover or soften it in any way. I applied another round of Goop and left it there for approximately 16 hours. It turned into a clear liquid and once again had no effect of the hard seat cover. My conclusion is that auto upholstery is a more porous "fabric" vs. the plastic-like vacuum-formed material used on this type of molded seat. The Goop might work on the sewn covers found on the earlier tractors, but it did absolutely nothing on this cover.

Tankman, Daddy has paid plenty! A 9yr old with a 4 wheeler, a tractor and a gun. He's spoiled, but a good spoiled. I have to crank mine up before he gets home or I get no seat time! He insists on doing it all and if I crank the Ranger there is hell to pay! He inspects the yard every day for any evidence of horse play that he didn't get in on. lol When he's plowing, there is always a group watching, amazed that a little boy can run it and do the job. He's a worker with the memory of an elephant! :handgestures-thumbupright:

She's all done. I wanted old school aluminum slots for the van but they are hard to come by. I was at Pep Boys the other day and they were having a close out on these rims. 39 bucks each! I had to buy a set.

Though I never plan to take it apart again after it is reassembled, I am going to liberally coat the shaft with never-seize. Who knows, 52 years from now, maybe my grandson or great-grandson might decide to take it apart again. He will thank me and say, that was

1st "new" topic I've done so excuse the mess. I just posted 5 pics to my gallery showing removal of my 854 steering wheel. I've been spraying (lightly) with Kano sili-kroil since 8/12 in case I needed it off. Used a 1" open end wrench under the wheel , a Craftstman 2 jaw puller, 1 1/4 in nut under the puller and a short 5/8 boxed in wrench to remove, came off like a charm. The secret was in the preparation.

Dad let me plow again last night. It was very fun. My "horse"was plowing a hole lot better than I expectided. I got to plow half of our stuff and all of the neighbor's and made some $. It's supposed to snow for the next few days so I should be able to plow again soon. Here's me at work

I had these old rusty WH hubcaps sitting on a junky 312-8 for years. Stray cats were peeing on the rear ones and rusted them out pretty bad. The fronts were covered in grease from over greasing the front rims(lucky for me!). They cleaned up like new ones. I figured the rears were junk anyway, so I took a wire wheel to them to see what would happen. You can't ruin something that is junk in the first place. So it took awhile but they cleaned up fairly descent considering how they looked before! I took 4 OOOO steel wool on them after the wire wheel, they look pretty good afterall. I mounted them on my nice 310-8 Speed that I got from callen on this site. Looking good Chester! Keith

If you had put some spacers on the bracket for the C-160 you would not have to remove it to mow.

I really wanted to be a hero.....but.....lol...that is a tough little sproket to get to..... We had about 3-4 inches of snow the last snowfall so I thought I'd try this D series thrower out. Was done with the driveway (about 5000 sq ft) in about 10 minutes. It turned me into a snow magnet though. I was covered in snow. I see why guys have cabs....jeez.....

The last time I tested an hourmeter, I discovered the meter does not require a specific orientation of positive and negative wiring. As long as the meter is designed for the voltage RANGE you intend to use it in ( 8 to 32 volts seen below) AND it is not a meter intended to be used on an AC circuit like an emergency backup generator, it should work. The meter below is marked specifically for DC applications. The DC version of the hourmeter will not draw constant power from the 12 volt line. I found this out while trying to troubleshoot a tractor that had a parasitic drain on the battery. One or two times a minute, I would see a 1/4 amp pulse of power being drawn from the battery. Turns out that pulse of power is how the hourmeter works. The quick pulse of power "winds the watch" so to speak in the hourmeter and the meter runs for 30 seconds or more on that little gulp of power. If you hookup a multimeter in the milliamp mode to measure 1 amp or less, you might be able to tell if the meter is consuming any power. If it is, and it still does not clock off time, it is defective. P.S. Hourmeters will not (should not) run backwards if hooked up backwards. That would make it far too easy for anyone to fake actual hours on the monitored equipment.

Here's one of my favorites! Factory original RJ58 with Front Cutter Bar! I bought it off an old timer and he said he'd have to have big money for it. I asked him how much we wanted and he said $75.00!! So I said I'd take it for that! Hehe! I loaded it up fast! It didn't have the Front Cutter Bar on it at that time. Keith

Jim & Steve, Your brains connected from Wheel Horse dump carts to Teletubbies in two very short steps -- what the heck is wrong with you guys? That video brought back some great memories. My daughter and I used to kick back and watch Teletubbies when she was a toddler (she's 16 now). We both enjoyed it immensely, for very different reasons. She just thought they were funny. But the first time I watched it, my very first thought was that these guys were on acid, and that possibility alone kept me interested enough to keep watching. Again! Again!

Got the steering wheel off today, I took TT's advice and just hacked the shaft no big deal and a 3/4" new shaft is like $9.00 this allowed me to better get the Roll Pin out without screwing with the shaft in the wheel. After the roll pin was removed from the wheel I gave the 20 ton press a workout. Also did some more dissasembly and more sandblasting things are comming along real good. A Family That Blasts together Stays Together My Grandaughter Henny came over tonight and had to get in on the action!
