    Today I got up and was really excited that it was Christmas! I made Mom drag my older brothers out of bed at about 8:20 so I could open presents. I got lots of cool stuff. I was playing a video game when Dad said to get dressed because we had work to do. I went to the shed and saw Mom in there and got curious. I looked to the left and saw a little Wheel Horse! I was speechless! I could not believe that I got my own 'Horse! Dad let me get on it and showed me how the controls worked, so it was time for a ride. I loved it! My 'Horse loves to push snow. My Dad had to move the cars so I could plow the driveway. I had a blast! I will try to get him to let me plow more later. Have a nice Christmas. And a special thank you to Dave! ** I typed the above as Chop is not 'puter savvy enough yet, but those are his words. I was just the secretary!     Hi guys, my parents really surprised me this year! I was given the really nice 702 my dad picked up about a month ago. This has to be my favorite horse besides the 401. It has a plow, mower deck, and grader blade. Here are the pictures again so you guys can see it again. ~Jake

    E- tank everything!! I paid another person to sand blast the tins and i did all the small stuff. It was a lot of work and took for ever to get it done. I E-Tanked my daughters tractor in the back ground and it was a lot less work! Lots of research if your looking to make it 100% original. Mine is as close as I am going to go, the rear tires and the stack are all that is incorrect for this tractor. I do have to say that this tractor does not like me at all. I have flipped it over taking it off the trailer, gouged the rear fender trying to get it out of storage for last years Charlotte show. and the new axle seals started leaking this year. I have no clue on how much I have into it, but it's twice as much as I would have put into it after I have done a few. But that's living and learning, so it's OK.

    My Wife asked me about 4 months ago what I wanted for Christmas. I replied ,"All I want is to be able to go to the show in Pa. for the whole weekend". She asked "what would that entail" I said" MONEY!!" So after she bought my neighbor's 8' X 14' shed for my horse stuff as an early gift, this morning I got 2 gas cards for the trip plus reservations at the Gettysburg Campground for a Cabin rental on Thursday and Friday night! Hope it's cooler than last year. That A/C in the hotel felt mighty nice! :)

    Normally, we don't exchange any gifts with our neighbors. Through out the year though, we exchange favors when the need arrives. Recently, I lent my 12 foot utility trailer to one neighbor so that he could haul his tractor and leaf vacuum to his relatives house to pick up leaves. I never expected anything in return. So last night, I am sitting watching the Raven devour the Giants and a knock come on the door. It is my neighbor and his 5 year old daughter, bearing gifts. In the first box was a freshly baked pineapple upside-down cake, and in the other was this. Needless to say I was surprised. He knows my passion for the horses, and could not have gotten me anything better.

    Here is a project that I am working on. I know that it is not a Wheel Horse, but I thought that it was just too cool to get thrown away. It is a Craftsman FF20 that was made around 1983 and was supposed to compete with the John Deere 400. It has a 20 hp Onan engine, an Eaton 1100 hydrostatic transmission, and a two-speed Peerless rear end. The rear tires are 26x12x12 and the front tires are 18x8.5x8. Here are some begining photos: Here are some photos of where I am at so far: I am trying to find two of the parts that were missing when I started. They include the plastic side cover for the engine and the perforated steel grill. I am hoping that someone on here either has one that they would be willing to part with these pieces or know of someone that would. Please send me a message if you can help.     I havent been on in what seems like forever so I just wanted to throw a couple pics up of the 18 auto with the blade on. Supposed to be a white Christmas here in NEPA. If I dont get enough to plow Christmas morning, I should on Wednesday/Thursday with the first Nor'easter in 2 years. I guess we shall see how it pushes with the 29.5- 9.50 R-3s on her....

    bought some new shoes for the old c141.... the old shoes were cracked pretty bad and one had to put air in it all the time. i like the looks of these. I have the blade on and ready to go. the deere 210 in background has the blower ready to go. winter storm warning as we speak but we are 1 county north of a blizzard warning. Yikes i am ready for 30 + mph winds with 5-8 inches of snow......

    We had Christmas at our house last evening. I opened a small box from Santa (I think it was really my wife), and here is what I found, along with a motel reservation for the Big Show in June!. She will be accompanying me.

    There was a story on here a few years ago about someone that had been contacted by someone else about an old Wheel Horse Dealer that had a NOS Senior, RJ35, RJ58 etc. If that was the case and I got a hold of those older tractors, they would stay NOS and never started. I would trailer them to shows and display them but they would stay a part of history. If it was something like a Raider, C100 or the common variety, I would fire it up an drive it. I think for me it would depend on the year and model. Oh yeah, and about the story of all the old NOS tractors, I don't recall who it was that posted, or what the outcome was of it. If I remember correctly they were supposed to be going to look at them, but I don't think it ever panned out or if it was really just a hoax.

    Just picked up this blower for my D180 about a month ago and spent some time doing some basic restoration to make it usable this winter. Plan to take it all the way down in the spring, but this will do to get me through this winter. Looking forward to some snow!

    I have had this type of discussion with a buddy who has two NOS cubs,never has fluid in them,one is still in the crate one sat one the dealers floor.He also has two that were demo models that were never sold,a spirit of 76 and a super cub.Both have around 25 hours on them.He has all the original paper work from the dealer on the tractors.We both agree,leave em alone,they are history that you can look at,touch and study.

    No holes in 58/59 One hole in 1960 and two holes in 61. At least this is what I have noticed on the tractors and of coarse there is probably some crossover between the years as we know WH used what they had on hand at the time of production.

    Steve, That's a really nice post, thanks for sharing those insghts with us all. I'm curious about one thing, now that you've taken a bunch of these transmissions apart. What kind of symptoms tell you definitely that a particular unit needs to be taken apart and repaired, rather than just flushed and refilled? I have two 8-speeds in my Wheel Horses, knock on wood both operating well, a little bit of gear whine but no other noises or operating problems. They both have very minor fluid seepages from various seals, not even measurable, and I'll tackle them at some point if they get worse. The fluids are both good, but I'll flush and change them both in the spring. I feel like that's enough for now, and mostly because of the labor involved, I won't be tearing either one of them apart unless they start acting badly. I'm just wondering what your definition of "acting badly" is (you know, for transmissions, not personally ).

    I wish I could have found one for my son. He had to settle for a Deere. A motorcycle battery will last a little longer and give enough touque to pull the front wheels if he does a reverse to second gear slam. Chain for hanging lights works great for making traction chains for those units.

    I just performed an experiment a couple of weeks ago. I had a transmission that I was going to tear into and fix anything that was wrong. I drained the oil (it was in good shape...not like yours). I turned the input pulley of the transmission in each gear by hand to determine if anything seemed amiss...it seemed OK. I then put in about a quart and a half of diesel fuel and ran the transmission on my work bench (using an electric motor with a fan belt). I ran it in each gear for about a total of 30 minutes, the speed of which I estimate to be around full throttle. I then drained the transmission and took it apart. The gears, bearings, shafts and casting came out clean as a whistle. There was still a small amount of sludge layered on the bottom of the casting...which wiped right out with a couple of rags. Of the 7 transmissions that I have opened in the last few months, this was the only one that did not have internal problems. The others have had broken or disintegrated bearings, chipped axle gears, chipped bull gear etc. I feel that if I had used the method above on these transmissions, I would have caused more damage and would have inferred more cost. As it is, these transmissions are "averaging" around $75 to $100 apiece to fix and replace broken gears and old seals. There is no labor included in this cost, just cleaners, rags, parts and oil. In conclusion, flushing does clean out a transmission, it also loosens everything and throws it around. It does not fix things that are broken or cracked. I still recommend splitting the transmission, if you really want to know it's condition. Only then can you guarantee yourself another 60 years of service. Kelly is right about members not feeling comfortable tearing down one of these transmissions, but I have been able to help walk people through the process by using posts, PMs e-mail and good old fashioned phone calls. Actually, I think the hard part of doing one of these trannys, is dropping it from the rest of the tractor, the second hardest thing is the cleaning of the inside...electrolysis (if needed), soaking gears and blowing and wiping down, wire brushing, etc...not really hard to do, but may be labor intensive. Putting it back together is a piece of cake and very satisfying. Taking that first ride on the horse when you are done...priceless. :)

    Nice shirt, and Pineapple Upside Down cake sounds good too. It is great to have and to be a good neighbor. Several years ago, I plowed snow from a couple of neighbors driveways. One neighbor brought over a fresh, and I mean right out of the oven apple pie for me, and another gave me a gift card to a restuarant. I wasn't expecting anything from them....I was just having a good time pushing snow!

    Theres no issues with loading the rims in my opinion Steve, it doesn't load the axle or the axle bearings and seals. I've never seen a 50 pounder that would fit inside the rim tho. I have 50#'s on the outside and 25#'s on the inside of my rims. Mike........

    Here is the first test drive, I'm glad I put a seat and footrest on it, it turns pretty tight, the tri ribs dig in with little to no sliding, I need to adjust the hydro so it goes faster forwards, and I think the next thing up is a throttle control, right now it's wide open or nothing, but at least it's up and driving I'm pretty happy, I'm a week ahead of schedule, the plan was to test drive it by weeks end.

    I picked up this cultivator to put on my 701, there isn't much of it that's not bent. I got the front section straightened out and rewelded this morning, I still have a shank or two and the rear section to straighten. I always thought these looked good mounted on a tractor, I'll have this painted when the tractor gets painted.

    This week I got the tranny put back together with new bearings and seals and replaced a few gears with better ones. I also took the motor generator apart, cleaned it up and reassembled it. The hood is too big to fit in my blast cabinet and I thought the guy that blasted my frame might warp it so I bought this little blaster from Harbor Freight and did it myself. I was surprised at how well it worked. The engine block is the only thing I have left to clean, now I'm just waiting for the painter to call.
